The liberal media have become increasingly vocal about gun control in recent weeks, but this weekend, they sank to a new low. The Journal News, a suburban New York newspaper, has published an interactive map that pinpoints all handgun permit holders in Westchester and Rockland Counties.

https://twitter.com/CeliaBigelow/status/283294620375465984

Not only has the Journal News blatantly violated gun owners’ personal privacy, but they have also put the public at risk. Gun rights advocates are rightly furious:

https://twitter.com/adamsbaldwin/status/283294793407295488

It’s downright disgusting. Is it any wonder legal gun owners fear their constitutional right to defend themselves will be taken away?

Shame on the Journal News. We pray for the safety of all those now at risk thanks to the newpaper’s pathetic, sickening excuse for journalism.

Guess what, Journal News? You just published by default, a map of the sitting ducks where criminals may expect little to no resistance upon entry.

    • Robot F. Kennedy

You Repugnants love arguing that gun-free zones encourage crime, while the presence of gun owners deters crimes. So ya’ll should have nothing to worry about, right? 😉

      • Red Fred

Right. This serves as a map of “where not to go.” Nevertheless, it’s private information that should not have been published. Falls under the, “that locked door you kicked in was for your protection.” Or the sign in your lawn which reads, “my neighbor opposes firearms for private citizens, and I promise not to protect him with mine.”

        • RanierWest

it put a cross-hairs on those people to be surveilled by criminals looking for the perfect time to go gun stealing.

FactCheck: Yes, Obama endorsed Illinois handgun banObama was being misleading when he denied that his handwriting had been on a document endorsing a state ban on the sale and possession of handguns in Illinois. Obama responded, “No, my writing wasn’t on that particular questionnaire. As I said, I have never favored an all-out ban on handguns.”

Actually, Obama’s writing was on the 1996 document, which was filed when Obama was running for the Illinois state Senate. A Chicago nonprofit, Independent Voters of Illinois, had this question, and Obama took hard line:

            35. Do you support state legislation to:
            a. ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns? Yes.
            b. ban assault weapons? Yes.
            c. mandatory waiting periods and background checks? Yes.

          • Michael Rice

Because only the NRA is for COnstitutional rights and everyoen else is against it? SOrry, teh NRA is nto settign policy it is advocating for the support of teh 2nd Amendment.

          • fmahoney

Reading is fundamental, comprehension is a little harder for some of you folks in the good old south.

            The 2nd
amendment was written in the context of the need for states to raise a
militia… says so right there in the first half of the compound sentence that
constitutes the amendment. It wasn’t about hunting, self-defense, or sport
shooting. It was adopted when many states had western boundaries that were
literally on the frontier and militia was a real necessity. Since then, the
frontier moved west and disappeared into the Pacific Ocean, state police took
on the functions of public safety, and the Federal government stopped relying
on militia for national defense. The National Guard serves the residual state
need for “militia” and backs up the regular Army. States neither need nor want
civilians running around armed with military weapons. National Guard commanders
won’t ask you to provide your own personal weapons. Military weapons are not
appropriate for hunting, self-defense, or sport shooting. Civilian gun owners
should be required to join a “well-regulated” militia supervised by their
state… or join the Armed Forces or National Guard. If the Supreme Court won’t
allow states to control their “well-regulated” militia, there is another
solution. Militia is an obsolete 17th century concept; therefore, repeal the
2nd amendment. Contact your Senator or Representative. It’s past time to act.

          • Penmar

You might try reading the Federalist Papers, we are NOT a Democracy, we are Republic. They specifically mention they are concerned about the Tyranny of the Majority Rule. And just so you know, it’s 4 million plus NRA members. Not to mention the 2nd Amendment which trumps anything you libs want.

          • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

Concealed carry OK for retired police officersObama voted for a bill in the Illinois senate that allowed retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons. If there was any issue on which Obama rarely deviated, it was gun control. He was the most strident candidate when it came to enforcin and expanding gun control laws. So this vote jumped out as inconsistent.

When I queried him about the vote, he said, “I didn’t find that [vote] surprising. I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry. This was a narrow exception in an exceptional circumstance where a retired police officer might find himself vulnerable as a consequence of the work he has previously done–and had been trained extensively in the proper use of firearms.“

It wasn’t until a few weeks later that another theory came forward about the uncharacteristic vote. Obama was battling with his GOP opponent to win the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police.

In any event, they know they can’t come right out and state their open goals. They resort to those secret dog whistle code words, just like them bitter – clingin’ Teebaggerz.

          • tjp77

Almost every single liberal I know (and I know lots of them; I was born and raised in Manhattan, went to NYU and work in advertising) views the outright repeal of the second amendment to be the ultimate long term goal of current gun control advocacy.

They come right out and say it when the stakes are low; it’s only when they need to convince the country that they’re ‘moderate’ in order to win an election that they put on their song and dance about how much they value the rights of gun owners and only want a few new laws for ‘safety’.

It’s total bullshit though. The fact is that the vast majority of people on the left simply do not believe a private citizen should have the right to own a gun, and view the second amendment as an abhorrence, nominally tolerated for the sake of winning national elections. I’ve had PLENTY of conversations with liberals who have bluntly stated this. It’s in the mainstream of liberal ideology, and anyone who claims otherwise is either obfuscating or lying.

          • fmahoney

Should I assume you did a scientific Poll? The reality is damn near everyone in America loves guns. ONe of the first toys I ever received was a gun set with little caps. Remember cow boys and indians. Movies all day glorifying guns. Grew up in NYC also but went to visit father in law family in the south. Shot Gun time boom, wow that was a rush.

Leave your paranoia to itself for a while and have a reasonable conversation about gun violence.

Can you people really look the mothers & fathers of these little kids in the eyes and say “We need not do anything about guns except make certain we have even more to have a shoot out with the bad guy.

If you had an armed guard outside he simple would have been the first one to get shot simple.

          • Michael Rice

And your solution? Are you goign tor epeat the stupid liberal line that banning assault rifles will cure all gin violence. I guess you are capable of looking into teh eyes of every murdered child’s parents, in Chicago and telling them the continuing banishment of guns will work?

          • Robot F. Kennedy

Ah, so the outrage is born out of altruistic concern for all? You’re probably right, since we can all agree that the term which most aptly describes the NRA and Republicans is the word “selflessness.”

            (sarcasm)

          • Teresa Davis McCormick

outrage? That’s hilarious. If you can’t debate a point intelligently. You jump up and down and say your opponent is crazy with outrage. That’s pathetic and tiring.

            (not sarcasm)

          • Teresa Davis McCormick

not only does this put non-gun owners at risk, it alerts criminals of whose house to watch for when gun owners leave their homes..so they can get the weapons. It’s very stupid. Oh and when you say “Thankfully the lives of Progressives aren’t very usually dominated by fear” that just comes off as “Ignorance is Bliss”

          • Teresa Davis McCormick

            Germans
who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA – ordinary

Teresa’s inane point had the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Sadly any conversation that devolves into the “Obama and the evil Libs are scheming Nazis/ Marxists/ Muslim Brotherhood members/ Socialists” meme causes my eyes to glaze over.

          • Teresa Davis McCormick

What? Do you mean you’re eyes weren’t glazed over from the beginning? I wasn’t saying Obama is a Nazi, just similar tactics from another megalomaniac. I will say, though, that Obama is a Socialist. Since that’s the party he came from originally.

          • Michael Rice

If the point truly is abotu fear, it is the fear mongering coming from the left. We have to ban all guns , blah, blah, blah…the same as what the Nazis wanted.

          • Teresa Davis McCormick

I was trying to point out to you that the rhetoric and propaganda has all been heard before. Everyone who has the time to research history knows that. Yes I do mock your ignorance. And to add another similarity: Most of the German people were ecstatic to have Hitler in the beginning. He was the “hope and change” they were looking for. Of course when it was all over they truly learned that their complacency was a mistake. But you keep your nose to the ground and keep defending your insane position. That’s clearly all you’re capable of.

Rage? Dominated by fear? Should one not be able to engage in a legal activity without fear of persecution? There is simply no justification for printing these maps. To argue otherwise is to expose your own biases and, dare say, rage.

          • fmahoney

Very few arguments that make any sense. I do not think I am smarter then anyone. However, when the NRA can take aim at everything but guns, you start to realize the supporters don’t give a damn about anything but Guns.

            Want to see a joke?

I would suggest people keep their guns and let’s close the loop hole on the 40% of guns that are sold without background checks etc. Let’s keep the guns out of the hands of criminals. Let’s get a ban on these 100 round ammunition mags. All very sensible logic solutions to the amount of violence in our society.

Now you watch the reactions and the insults or those who simple find a typo and forget about the message.

Fair and balance? very wealthy investors are taking advantage of the extreme right and the liberal left. Look what a little puppet jackass the extreme right turned Romney into. Who was that guy? but like I say “Find a jackass and you ride it”

          • fmahoney

Really? Then why are they so afraid of gun owners that they want to legislate them out of existence?

      • Penmar

You idiot, what they have done is give every criminal in the area knowledge of where to steal weapons.

        • Red Fred

I think that may have been the motive behind this release. If a crime is committed with a firearm belonging to someone else, they can double down on gun owners not being responsible in locking their guns in safe location.

        • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

Seriously? Seriously?? As if any self-disrespecting criminal will try and steal a weapon from someone who’s been trained to use it.

So, let’s say I’m a criminal, I want to steal some guns, all I have to do is watch the house for a few days to see when the homeowner isn’t home and I can break in and get some guns. So seriously, how hard is that to figure out?

Depends on whether or not said criminal in all his wisdom is going to figure out where the gun safe is, what the combination to said gun safe is, and whether or not he can find the keys to the trigger locks. Of course, that means that the homeowner would have to keep their guns in a safe, and with trigger locks. Most I would think do. Most I hope, do.

          • Penmar

Btw, don’t think, you might hurt yourself. Lots of people don’t keep their guns in a safe, lots of people don’t use trigger locks. Most of those people may only have one weapon not 40 or 50. If you have kids, yes, that would be a good idea, a better idea however is to teach your children gun safety, unless they are very small children. However if you don’t have children, gun locks and safes are not a priority, Why wouldn’t someone do that? Because they want their weapon accessible in case someone breaks into their home. In the time it would take you to get the lock off the gun or open your safe, you could and would most likely end up dead.

          • Penmar

One more thing, the criminals also now have a really good idea of which homes do not have a gun permit owner.

          • http://twitter.com/MoueLaMoue Moue La Moue (D)

So very true!! And what happens when someone in that area DOES get robbed or worse? Will the newspaper take responsibility for their part in the crime? If I were a resident of that area, I wouldn’t rest very easily. Not at all.

        • proudhispanicconservative

Yeah, like criminals have a lot of courage, to go to a house that he knows there is weapons inside. Very clever

In addition, once those children arrive you make it plain and simple, your on your own. You care, then make certain the funding your about to cut does not effect one single mother or child who falls on hard times.

Please take your false compassion and shove-it, you and your ilk only engage in “a cause” as a means to flatter your self bestowed moral superiority, and your desire to live vicariously through your favorite celebrity………truly pathetic.

          • fmahoney

You and your friends don’t give a damn about women or our children. The catholic church molestation of young boys
The BOY Scouts of America being molested
Thousands of young underage girls prostitutes
            Penn State molestation
The list just never ends does it?

Why are you not jumping up and down and screaming about ell the innocent children dying in poor communities? What is the NRA doing to help? Ohhh yea wrong kids, they don’t count.

I don;t know who you guys think your fooling

Don’t fool yourself about who has abortions and what ever you do don’t use the right wing pollsters, you just might get the results you want.

Professional White women who want to put their careers first are the ones who are having these abortions more then anyone. You guys should get along great with the latin community they seem to be having all their children.

When you idiots start protecting the children that are already on this earth I will listen to your argument until then shut up and sit down!

          • rbtpowell

Where are all these poor communities in the U.S. where children are dying, how many boy scouts have been molested; how many alter boys? I would also be curious how it is you would know where to find under-age prostitutes. Though your comparisons are absurd, add them all up and you’ll find the number is not even close to those killed by abortion.

You do realize that the brain trust at the Journal News told criminals where the “gun free” zones are as well, right?

      • An American Veteran

You don’t get it do you. The people who do not own guns have now been exposed, the criminals now have access to who has a gun and who does not with this map, if you lived there and don’t own a gun I would be really concerned.

      • Spiegels

Seriously? You didn’t even consider those who aren’t armed who are now exposed? Can you think your way out of a paper bag? Unreal.

If one does not have a CWP, the potential is there to be targeted for gun theft. Aside from the utter breach of privacy, do you advocate such measures? Winky faces do not excuse your invective and lack of critical reasoning skills. If the motive is to inform the public of potential dangers, would you advocate an STD registry being made public?

      • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

From your garden-variety B&E, yes. But now they become targets for left-wing terrorists who will attempt to further intimidate them with Molotovs, drive-bys, SWATting, and the regular dirty dozen tricks of harassment and intimidation that leftists are famous for. This newspaper is an accessory – before- the – fact and complicit in any violence that befalls these honest citizens.

      • Jazzee

hey leftie how about we post some info about you? like you don’t own a weapon, where you work, where you shop, when you’re home and not would that make you feel good???? what is the point of what the paper did can you tell me? if it is public info then someone can go find the time to look it up if they are so inclined but to publish them??? hmmmmm good luck to those they just targeted for the BAD GUYS and their guns

      • Michael Rice

Right, so the paper published it to deter crime then, too? You’re an idiot. THey, by default, just told everyone where the gunless homes are. Not to mention a little thing about privacy. Imagine the outrage if a conservativ epaper published a map of where the gun free homes were.

      • Jonathan D. Turner

No gun owner ever wants to have to use their guns for self defense. The guns are there just in case they NEED to.

Right.. In Fact a nice sign that says this house is protected by Smith and Wesson would be a nice touch.. and one pointing to the nearest liberals house (or their address) would be a nice touch to.. YOU should have NOTHING to worry about right?? sure you can wait for the police when someone breaks in your house in the middle of the night..lots of luck with that,,.lol.. Most of the map in Rockland is purple which indicates that the owners moved away or died.the blue are the active permit holders. Look ing at the map, on my street there are only 4 permit holders 3 are purple and yes they are people that have moved away or died. Only 1 is blue.

This is “Oops! Jouranlism”, fascism and intimidation writ large! And has all the makings of a MASSIVE class action suit against the Journal News. All that is needed is a pro bono lawyer to go ONLY after the article’s writer.

If the Journal doubles down and backs the writer. Sue the Journal as well.

  • alanwillingham

This is clearly a map to warn criminals which homes to avoid. The “NY Journal” has taken a great deal of time and effort to assist those who make a career of robbery, burglary, and theft and are making their best effort to protect them and keep them safe. Perhaps they will distribute their paper Free to High Crime Areas and Gangs so this valuable information can be immediately put to use as intended to target unarmed citizens.

    • http://www.4chan.org/pol La’Milton

Avoid? More like rob for guns

Are these editors brain dead? Who authorized this? Both the law abiding gun owners and the non-gun owners are now at risk while criminals have been given a big assist.

I agree with those calling for high dollar lawsuits, it’s the only language they understand.

The floorplan to your house is public knowledge, but if cnn were to put it up an say “here’s where it is, heres how to break in, have fun” would that not be irresponsible?

  • Guest

In fact they have published TWO lists. One of households that have the means to defend themselves and one of those who don’t. Any criminal who wants to break into a home to rob, rape and murder only has to check this list against a possible target. Not on the list? NOTHING to worry about!

    You Go First
    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2971869/posts

Obama, though, offered specific proposals only in reference to the latter. He called on Congress to pass “common-sense legislation,” which he said should include an assault-weapons ban and a ban on high-capacity magazines.

Ok, Mr. Obama. You go first. Issue an executive order removing military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines from the Secret Service agents guarding you.

Instead of offering solutions to a problem they have helped create, they offered a paranoid, dystopian vision of a more dangerous and violent America where everyone is armed and no place is safe,” Mayor Bloomberg said.

Ok, Doomberg, you go first. Let your armed security detail go.

But you would concede that, as good as an idea as you think this is, it may not work. Because there have been cases where armed guards have not prevented this kind of massacre, this kind of carnage. I want you would concede that point, wouldn’t you?

Ok, Gregory, you go first. Publicly call for Sidwell Friends school, where you send your own kids, to lay off the 11-person security detail, as they MIGHT not be able to stop the shooting.

It’s all about security for me and not for THEE. The real message of the elites is their lives are worth defending. Not ours.

So many conservative journalists have made this point already: It is illegal to murder anyone in Connecticut. Since the shooter(s) ignored that base law, what makes these Einstein rocket-scientists think that criminals will follow ANY legislation that comes out of this? I, for one, am GLAD that gun-owners see this for what it is: an attack on their Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, and an attack on their God given rights to defend themselves and their families from lunatics and liberals.

This may be the single worst irresponsible piece of journalism ever.

It shows criminals where to steal … guns and more.
    It invades privacy.
It reveals where women or men are armed not only for normal self protection from home invasion but for those who need special self protection from stalkers, abusers or threat of life.

We have mental health, criminal justice, parental and family responsibility, and cultural erosion and decay issues as relates to violence and lack of values and morals.

1/3 of all schools are and were already armed at the community level … where the choices need to be made and paid for as well…. not the federal level.

Remember how we were supposed to fear the anger and wrath of the portsiders if Gyorgy Schwartz’s sock puppet was removed from the White House? Well – after his no-good-nicks stole the election – he’s still there, and – seemingly – they’re angrier and more unhinged than they were before the election, if it’s possible.

First we had a map of Sarah Palin’s Wasilla home posted on the Internet – and her stalker brought to Alaska; then we had photos and the addresses of Republicans posted; and now we have this nonsense from the Journal News. Obviously, all of this is an invitation to mayhem.

How about someone posting a picture of the building housing the Journal News, and also a map of its location?* Better yet, how about posting a picture and map of the homes of Janet Hasson and CynDee** Royle, the publisher and the editor?

Hold the presses! It turns out that Christopher Fountain has posted quite a bit of personal information about the publisher. Check out “For What It’s Worth.” (Added 20 minutes later) Directly below this post of mine chewydog has the link.

If an example were made of the publisher, perhaps we’d see an end to this dangerous game the portsiders are playing.
