Since this morning’s IDF airstrike on Gaza that killed a Hamas military chief, Twitchy has kept you posted on all the latest developments in the escalating battle. But in a surreal twist, Israel and Hamas are also engaged in a volley of social media salvos. Who could have predicted that Twitter would play a role in modern warfare?

Al Qassam, Hamas’ paramilitary wing, is using its Twitter account to threaten the IDF:

Al Qassam is also using Twitter to document its retaliatory efforts:

Al Qassam is vowing further retribution:

Twitterers are marveling at the fact that they’re watching a violent battle unfold over social media:

If only.

Update:

The IDF shoots back at Al Qassam’s claim that Tel Aviv has been hit.

The funny bit it is … if the devices being used by the Hamas/Hez guys are mobile, connected to a network, and they don’t keep moving … well, those signals can be traced.

    Just saying …

And in other news … IDF Artillery rains precision fire on “known terrorist locations” followed by IDF Special Forces raids …

    • JustLikeAnimals

True that! Hamas fighters should make sure their GPS and “Show my location” options are turned off!!!! heheheheh

……Hamas rocket team under a tree in the dark near Israeli border checking their email on their iPhone: “What’s that sound?”…….

The Middle East suddenly heats up just days after BHO is reelected. Coinky dink?

I guess it’s time for the re-elected President of my great United States to put on his big boy pants and actually start being a President.

    • mickeyco

      fat chance

    • Kangaroo Be Stoned

And attack a country that has a right to nuclear power and weapons? To protect a country that doesn’t need it and could decimate an Iranian threat with ease? To protect a country that doesn’t have to comply with nuclear inspections? To continue the Pro-Israeli propaganda?

    • ked5

I don’t think he owns any big boy pants. If somehow he got some, they’d fall down.

    • Belinda Henry

Hillary wears the big boy pants and she ran away to escape the questions about Benghazi.

  • mkreider

I have always wondered why the Palestinians never demanded the land back that Jordan grabbed? Oh well , I will cheer for Israel.

I am glad that I am not in charge.
I’d have my excuse to turn Gaza into a very large glass bowl.

    • Hiraghm

Nah… that’s why the neutron bomb was such a good idea; situations like this.

  • TomJB

OK, step right up and place your bet: which comes first, @IDFSpokesperson blocked by Twitter, or @AlquassamBrigade drops link permanently?

    • BeeKaaay

I bet all Israeli twitter accounts are banned, not just IDFspokesperson – we can’t have a two sided conversation on Twitter :)

Well, heck, Twitter is so much more *green* than leafletting. Kudos to the IDF for thinking about the environment.

  • http://www.cosmicgirl.net/ Cosmic Girl

It’s interesting that the MSM acts like it’s Israel that does all the attacking and Hamas is an innocent bystander. Meanwhile, Hamas is documenting their attacks right on Twitter for all the world to see. We truly don’t need the MSM. They are completely useless.

    • ked5

considering the rampant antisemitism in the msm, it’s not that surprising. the fact we now have a pResident who has stated bluntly he will “stand with the muslims” doesn’t help anything. the press will deny hamas’ posts, and just continue on condeming israel for not being sitting ducks.

  • CynicOwl

Am I the only one who thinks it’s sad that Hamas has greater command of the English language than most young Americans? At least if Hamas was threatening Romney, i would have understood them.

    • Michael Morris

Sad, scary, and so very true.
