Black Lives Matter of Cuyahoga County (BLMCC) is endorsing Republican Portman over Democrat Strickland in Ohio, a key state and a key election.

BLMCC President Jeff Mixon said, “In the current atmosphere of identity politics, BLMCC understands that endorsing even a well-qualified Republican such as Portman seems controversial.”
Mixon went on to say, “At some point, minority communities must carefully examine the impact of relying solely on the Democratic Sample Ballot on Election Day.”

It is heartening to see BLM evaluating endorsements based on criteria other than party affiliation. More should follow their lead.
