Viewers of NBC’s Saturday Night Live are raving on Twitter about tonight’s cold open skit. Hell must be freezing over, because the left-leaning comedy show actually mocked President Obama and the train wreck of Obamacare instead of utilizing one-trick-pony host Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin schtick.

Cultural shift? Eh. We’re not holding our breath, but it’s a start.

Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, who plays meth dealer Jesse Pinkman, popped in for a well-received cameo. BB’s final episode airs tomorrow on AMC.

If the skit premise sounds familiar, you’ve been paying attention.

Michael Moore echoed similar sentiments, as Twitchy reported last week.

Will there be a 3am phone call from the White House to SNL executives?

Nope, not forgotten:

  • Pulchritudinous

My oh my have the tables have turned. It’s funny how liberal-leaning TV shows are suddenly and gradually having more conservative/libertarian humor in it because it’s “new” or “hipster-ish” or something.

That GOPMommy tweet is true, though. One’s past actions and beliefs can come back to haunt you, and people will remember how you used to be.

    • Randy Winters Sr.

Thank God that if we believe in the name of Jesus, He don’t remember nothing we did in our past! Unlike this fallen world of sinners………..

    • Stephen Zeigler

we no longer have to remember, we now have fb to remind us and we can watch them insert foot in mouth right on youtube.

Just came across some old Oprah show, if you want to see might point. Funny how she tells Robert….oh yeah the goverment is going to take their share….but loves her some obama….the king of take !
came across this youtube link with Oprah and Robert Kiyosaki thought you might enjoy. Hard to imagine this woman could say what she did on this show and yet turn around and vote for obama. I’m thinking there must be something very wrong with the water in Chicago.

      • Roto ✓Intentionally Left Blank

Canadians can vote a straight Democrat ticket, no problem.

          That’s the tradition in America.

Oh, I dunno. Maybe to prove you’re an openminded & tolerant human rather than an intolerant, biased, far-left ideologue? But here’s a link more attuned to your oh-so-delicate sensitivities:

          • AudreyPH

Does anyone else get the idea that some think Fox News shouldn’t even BE here (whether one pays attention to it or not) and that all we should have are the left-leaning networks? What is this, Russia during the Cold War?

          • chicagorefugee

Probably only those same evil iconoclasts who strongly suspect that it’s not Fox’s “lies” that lefties object to but its truths – the stories it (factually) covers that would otherwise not see the light of day.

PS – Since I “threw out the tv” more than a decade ago, the inevitable juvenile “Nah, nah, nah, Fox” jeering is of primarily academic interest … but it is quite curious how often lefties resort to it when faced with an unexpected challenge to their ideas.

          • bungopony

Typical misinformation from the uneducated. There were numerous arrests for voter fraud (voting more than once) in Florida alone of democrats. Here are just three that I know of: Campana, Galuski and McGrath all democrat voters, all voted in 2011 more than once, all caught all found guilty. Get your facts straight and stop being like the rest of this country making comments on a topic you’re not completely knowledgeable of before just spewing your words.

          • AudreyPH

I’m too young to have seen SNL live from the beginning, but what I have seen altogether when I got older, (including many sketches from the original cast) IMHO there was good and bad in every season, including the ones at the beginning. Many of them I’ve watched and thought: “People thought this was FUNNY?” It could be partially that I’m just not really a fan of Belushi-style physical comedy, though.

          • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Actually, at times in the 80’s, especially early on, SNL was so bad, there was thought of cancelling it. It wasn’t good enough, It wasn’t smart enough, and dammit, people didn’t like it, as one of their “alleged comedy writers,” Senator Frankenweenie might have put it. But then others will tell you, no, they never would have cancelled it– yeah, that’s right, they NEVER would have cancelled it– sure, that’s the ticket!

          • dvdcnl

            to big to fail?

          • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

More like a bunch of NBC “suits” in those days were getting coked up, along with the performers and writing staff.

          • AudreyPH

I’ll admit I didn’t see much of the early ’80’s shows, so actually I won’t count them in this case. In fact I didn’t even get the joke at first when people thought it was funny that my dentist was Dr. Weiner! (aka WHIIIINEERR, of course)

        • Kabong30

Here’s the thing, Larry, you have perfectly illustrated the difference between liberals and conservatives. A conservative will say, “Hey guys, I made a mistake.” Whereas a liberal chickenshit like you will ride their mistake right into the ground and try to take the whole GD country with him.

          • Larry Banal

biggest crock of BS ever…conservatives still think trickle down works…talk about not admitting mistakes

          • Kabong30

“Trickle Down” economics? That’s the best you’ve got? Good God, maybe you’d like to talk about the New Deal? Perhaps the Great Society? Talk about some ideologies that didn’t actually work.

        • ObamaFail

Republicans are dumb? Obamacare is a proven disaster, and every liberal is eager to lap up the BS just because Obama says it’s awesome. Hey, how’s that Hope and Change working for you libby? I bet it’s gotta be stinking pretty bad by now, but you’re too enamored by Obama’s skin color like a good little mindless lemming to complain. Every Democrat is a moron, because they are too stupid to do anything but praise Obama as he sinks our economy.

          • Disqus1010

I don’t know if the right word is “enamored” with his skin color, but I do think there was a percentage, not sure how large, of people who voted for him mostly because they got a ‘warm and fuzzy’ feeling in their tummy. You know, casting the ‘historic vote’, proving they were not racists, helping move America into a post-racial age, yadda, yadda. I know some smart people that voted for him, twice. And with his complete lack of leadership experience before his first term, and his poor leadership during his first term, that ‘warm and fuzzy’ feeling must have had something to do with his election wins.

          • Emma Brown

That and a “white guilt complex”, (which is so stupid it stinks) and just being too darn stubborn they CAN’T admit they were wrong!! some people had rather take the chance of sinking our country rather than admit they are/were DEAD WRONG!

  • waltermitty2012

This was an easy joke to make at Obama’s expense, besides they did this before over the sequester. It was a stroke of good marketing (the Breaking Bad finale is tomorrow night) include Jesse from New Mexico as part of the bit.

  • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

They also had a very funny, but respectful skit featuring Lady Thatcher and a punk rocker who loves her, shortly after she passed. Now this. Maybe SNL has a conservative writer there somewhere.

  • Peter885

What skit are people watching that was “tearing apart” or “trashing” anything on Obamacare? They didn’t make fun of it at all. They lofted some extremely mild criticism because Obamacare is complicated and/or because Obama hasn’t explained it well enough. Oooooh! BURN!

Not a single thing in the sketch suggested that Obamacare is a bad thing, unless you’re a father upset that your 25 year old doesn’t have to work to have health care.

You know they don’t want to make any actual jokes at his expense and articles like this from Twitchy will just help make sure they don’t. Why would they when conservative sites are patting them on the back for barely saying anything critical?

    • winlass

Sure won’t be laughing when that kid is charged $2000 for healthcare (bronze plan WA state) when he has no job, but is in a “family” of 3 adults with an annual income of $40k. Guess who’s paying for his mandatory insurance or fine?? Mommy & daddy! Check it out on Huff Po calculator. Even social security is counted income ya know.

      • Larry Banal

you are full of it. i used that calculator on wa state but obviously you did not

    • Evan Dickinson

This is a huge problem for conservatives because it makes us look like imbeciles. And you are right, it makes it so that SNL has their liberal audience and they get the conservative audience too on the mere sliver of a hope that they’ll say that one thing about something liberal is bad. And we end up supporting the many more things in that one skit that say that any opposition to liberals is evil.

  • Carl Brown

Watch the skit. They didn’t really make fun of Obama- or Obamacare. They just made fun of Americans. I don’t think SNL is capable of making fun of liberals, because they don’t get the irony implicit in liberalism.

    • Roto ✓Intentionally Left Blank

And you could hear the delay in the liberal audience’s laugh. They didn’t know whether to laugh or not….

      • ObamaFail

They’re liberals, they need the government to tell them how to think and feel.

They can’t go 8 years and expect results bashing Palin. She never even made it to Washington. Obama is well into second term, numbers are low on Obamacare, it’s a safe move. After all accountants demand money.

  • WhoDat

They’ve made fun of everybody. Why should Obama be any different.

  • Shane Elliott

I don’t think this skit really attacked Obama or Obamacare. Watch it again. It is saying Obamacare is complicated, but it is making fun of the American public for being too stupid to understand it. The Left thinks they are smarter than you and doesn’t mind making fun of the public for not understanding their greatness.

    • GOPsharkbaby

Agreed. And it doesn’t mock Obama yet it mocks Cruz as a dumb, crazy lunatic. SNL is still biased!

SNL cast probably got their 2014 medical insurance premium notice….for a single person to a family plan, boom increase of 300%, 500%…..probably found out NBC or the individual media corporation they work for, or as a contractor individual writer…..that’s a big, big leap.
More of a premium, far less coverage. Yeah, that’s really funny!
I have to laugh, my Sunday paper today, a publication that has told us how great Obamacare will be in this state for months…………..headline – Obamacare – more to be covered, and problem of far fewer doctors to provide care…….
Headline was: You’ll Be Covered, But, Will You Be Able To See The Doctor?
    The laughs just keep coming………

  • el_polacko

the skit made fun of people’s reactions to obamacare, not the law itself. obama was presented as being frustrated by how dumb people are…and, of course, ted cruz was depicted as being a raving loon who had to be dragged from the stage. not really a lot here to be gloating over. although i guess, for SNL, this was some kind of dramatic departure or something.

  • Joker Jim

    “I am the danger.”

    • FlatFoot

  • mrCurmudgeon

Wow! I’ve never seen so many people so successfully miss the whole damn point. Your political biases have blinded you to satire (which isn’t a conservative strong suit to begin with!).

Sure they mentioned Obama’s short-comings in explaining the ACA, but they lampooned “stupid americans” who collectively “shove things up their butts” and who still don’t seem to understand that it’s not “free health care”. They even went so far as to point out Heisenberg’s (Breaking Bad) extreme response to not having affordable health insurance.

The only cultural shift that’s happening is the one Republicans are obviously terrified of, and that’s the one where Americans receive affordable health coverage from a Democratic President and they never vote for Republicans, ever again. lol

    • IceColdTroll

So is this Breaking Bad shtick one of Media Matter’s talking points now?
But anyway — Yes, we ARE afraid of a one-party state which keeps in power by giving freebies away to, say, 70% of the population while the other 30% pay for them. Although in a way I hope you get your wish, if only we were around to say “I told you so,” when all the bils finally come due and there’s no-one left to bleed. Like Churchill said, eventually you run out of other people’s money.

    • Grandma HeadInjury

      Yeah, that’s so scary…and probable.

Since you’re a liberal, I figure I should tell you: that was irony.

    • George Williams

The joke will be on the Obama sycophants, because they will soon find out what a snake oil salesman Obama is. Tell me, aside from the ability to perform using a teleprompter, what are Obama’s long suits? That’s right, you can’t think of one. Obamacare isn’t affordable. It’s a job destroyer. It will have the effect of destroying jobs and increasing the shortage of doctors. I predict a sea change in people’s attitudes towards Obama. When none of what Obama has been lying about comes true, the emperor will be seen for what he is, without clothes and delusional. The big question is, who will Obama blame when Obamacare fails?

    • stuckinIL4now

I think you missed the point and ought to examine your own political biases. The “stupid americans” (and we’ll go with the lower case “a” here since they’re not really Americans) presented in the skit are the exact lowinfObamabotzombies who voted for him, worship him and think he does no wrong. They’re especially idiots if they think they’re getting free or even affordable health insurance–they’re not getting either, and neither will they be getting any real “health” or medical care.

  • tedlv

I just got notified that my company is dropping my healthcare. I am on my own. Thanks, Mr. Obama. Mr. Reid. Ms “pass it to see what’s in it”. Wonder which finger I am holding up. Guess.

Sorta fun watching the liberals slyly move away from Obama as his list of failures soar to the moon….after getting him elected twice, and then watching the Nation fall apart under his amateur at best performance, they now want us to believe they never really supported him that much anyway. I sure hope those idiots get screwed as hard as the rest of us when obamacare is shoved down their throats.

  • Larry Banal

this site is hysterical….the GOP kool-aid tea party. the funniest thing is no one seems to “get” what SNL was lampooning …it was not obama care. they were making fun of all the idiots blaming everything on obama and they were riffing on the stupid BS people say

    • IceColdTroll

      Hooray, Larry (b)Anal is back!

      • Grandma HeadInjury

      • IceColdTroll

But yes, you’re right, and some here are pointing that out. Of course, they dare not criticize the Sacred Cow (or her husband the president.)

    • RosiesSeeingRed

I agree with you, but I’m pretty insulted because I TOTALLY understand the bold face line in the letter I received. I think the joke’s going to be on Obama, no matter what SNL says or does. Even the best and funniest propaganda can’t erase the words in letters like these. Like it or not, hundreds of thousands of people with all kinds of political viewpoints are receiving them. Making fun of people feeling the effects of Obamacare just rubs salt in the wound, and it’s going to backfire badly on Obama. Actually, I think it already is, given his 39% approval rating. And “my way or the highway or I’ll shut it down” Reid isn’t helping.

    • George Williams

Obama and the Democrats threw the dice on a program based upon legislation that none of them read. It’s hardly surprising that they came up craps. The Democrats OWN Obamacare and will suffer the consequences of their idiot child. Democrats tinkering with our health care system is like toddlers doing open heart surgery.

Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night! Tonight the President will address the nation on the Non Affordable Care and Won’t Protect You Act. But, please this is a comedy, so no questions.

  • Franklin Crittenden

Well, that’s it, the KING is dead!

No such thing as bad publicity……
This had the Presidential Seal of Approval… doubt……

  • Rulz

Just a guess, but SNL wants laughs and ratings even if it occasionally comes at Obama’s expense.

If he doesn’t like, he can give everyone a waiver from O-care and resign.

  • theslowrider

The idiot left is just now beginning to learn that ObamaCare is going to hurt them in the wallet, and that they can’t get someone else to pay for them! They’ve lived off other peoples’ money for so long, they thought this was just another freebie!

Ruse to make us watch the pathetic show.

Tina Fey should star in Scarface 2.

I do love the way that you guys spend most of your time complaining that actors and celebrities shouldn’t expect anyone to care what they think, and screaming for them to shut up (or better yet, pretending not to have heard of them, because that’ll really show them!), but the second anyone says anything that could remotely be interpreted as conservative or anti-Obama, you become star struck like a teenage girl meeting the Beatles.
