Nope, they’re not horsing around. Burger King officials in the U.K. finally copped to using horse meat in their fast-food products.

Yucks, yuks, and unsavory puns proliferated on Twitter:

The restaurant chain will now DNA test its burgers.

Consumers have suggestions for #NewBurgerKingSlogans:

    I understand some people wouldn’t care about eating horse meat. However, for those of us that would, they need to clearly label what their burgers and other items are made from. Jerks. PLUS they probably still advertised it as beef, which is false whether they used horse meat or … “other.”

    • Blake Waymire

      I have eaten horse meat (sashimi-style when I was in Kumamoto). Doesn’t seem like it’d taste too different from regular beef. Maybe closer to bison than beef, but still not enough to tell in a mix.

      Anyway, I have to wonder WHY the Europeans did it. Is horse meat way cheaper than beef over there?

      • Coffeeestain

        I’m thinking the horses going for burgers are the give away variety. Sad.

        • Paul McCoy

          Well Burger King caught selling horse meat in Branson Mo. too. From to grocery suppliers. Its totally legal and good eating. Only problem is their false advertising as beef. I have seen it in the stores here. years ago. And is returning as now they got the inspectors back. Thats how they stopped it before. The government failed to pass money for the inspectors. Obama made sure to renew it.

        But, I believe (even though I’ve tried neither) that Buffalo/Bison meat is more tender than Horse meat;and that’s why they use the latter for Dog food. Jawamax 8<{D}

      • aegean1

        I tried bison meat once, tasted the same as beef, don’t see the point really. But then, I’m no cook, maybe prepared properly it tastes better? Either way, it’s not the taste that’s the issue. I’d rather not eat a horse, unless strictly necessary (i.e. survival situation).

    Does Muslim dietary law forbid horse meat? I know no leftist gives a crap about Jews, and particularly not Christians who eat by the Levitical dietary laws (we’re out there. I am one.), but if it comes to offending Muslims then suddenly it’s serious business.

    The French consider horse meat a delicacy. In the US, you can get alligator meat or ostrich at the state fair with a fried candy bar for dessert. Personally I would never knowingly eat horse, or dog or cat or crickets, but there are some who would.
