Hawaii Five-O actor Scott Caan appeared on Chelsea Handler’s TV show and joked about the slow pace of life on the islands.

Many residents of the Aloha State took offense, prompting Caan to issue an apology.

Not everyone was so forgiving:

I don’t understand what the big deal is. Ppl are too sensitive

    • Maxwell

I agree people are too sensitive, but I also believe people just love to b*tch for the sake of b*tching.

    • Heeia1

      Are you from Hawaii?

  • disqus_F3NXFoiCvd

This confirms what we’ve always believed: Liberals are NEVER happy. Even in an island paradise they still find ways to bitch and moan.

  • George Washington Mclintock

SCott Caan is 5 feet 3 inches tall. That is all.

  • radjahshelduck

Isn’t it more offensive that Handler declared it to be a land chock full of crystal meth?

  • thegorn

Hawaii will live so will Caan. Who cares? It’s all personal preferences. Hawaii shouldn’t be so defensive. There will always be people who don’t like it and there will always be people who love it there. You can’t please everyone.

I’m so sorry that I watched that clip. I think my brain died just a little bit.

People are offended by meth references, “picking up a coffee cup really slow” and “liking it for 6 days at a time?” I grew up in West Virginia. When Hawaii becomes synonymous for inbreeding, wife-beating and automatic Klan membership, give me a call. Until then toughen up, cupcakes.

    • John (it true me am)

Hawaii’s response to this should put Obama’s place of birth to rest at least. Oversensitive, unrealistic, whiney. Yep, he’s Hawaiin.
Seriously though, those of us in the south get labeled and portrayed as all sorts of insulting things like you said. I’ve heard more toothless hillbilly references from the media for towns I know from personal experience are anything but, and Hawaii gets up in arms because Scott Caan doesn’t like the relaxed atmosphere and Spam… Unbelievable.

to me, it sounds as if he was talking about the relaxed atmosphere of hawaii as opposed to the fast-paced atmosphere of hollywood.

I had no plans to visit Hawaii in my life time before his comment. I still have no plans to visit Hawaii.
I’d rather visit Puerto Rico again.

  • sigh

Would’ve been funnier to mention the real racism that exists against non-natives there.

  • TocksNedlog

Making millions and living in paradise.
    Yeah, sucks to be him.

  • liquidflorian

I just got back from Hawaii, I didn’t hear his original comment but I do kind of agree with the sentiment. Hawaii is cool in small doses…

    • Wishsong

I agree. We spent a month there last winter. Yes, it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s also very small, everything is very expensive, and you’re a 5-6 hour flight from the mainland.

Lighten up, guys. All he said was it’s a slower pace of life than he prefers. I love Hawaii, it’s one of my favorite places in the world, but he’s got a point.

His dad, James Caan, is also a conservative. I think the media target anyone associated with conservatism.

  • Tokenn

I just got back from 2 weeks in Maui….I wish I could live there forever [except for their gun laws, which are worse than Canada’s]. I have to admit I’m not crazy about Spam, however.
