As Twitchy reported, the Spite House hit a new low by making the Amber Alert website go dark while FLOTUS’ “Let’s Move” site remains active. The Amber Alert system is allegedly still in place, but the information website has been deemed “non-essential.” Because shutdown and stuff.

But, some Twitter users questioned the “unavailable” page Sunday night.

HuffPo’s Sam Stein ran cover for the Spite House.

OK. Then why the unavailable page?

Ding, ding, ding!

Citizens attempt to break it all down.

Hmm. Looky here:

That’s right. When you remove “unavailable,” you do get to the main DOJ page. Which is still up and functional.

“Just bloggers” once again doing the work the media won’t.

If you click on the link for Juvenile Justice, it brings you to this page:

Under Programs and Initiatives, all links are functioning aside from Amber Alerts and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP): Programs.

Curious, that.

Down or up, one thing has escaped the shutdown wrath:

Of course.

But the question remains: Why?

And HuffPo’s Sam Stein reenters the mix:

Can you do your job, Sam?

Late Monday morning, the DOJ page remains as “unavailable,” but the site is now back up.

Gee, wonder why?

Really? Amber Alert website goes dark under government shutdown

  • Clayton Grant

I clicked on the link and the Amber Alert page came up without problem using Chrome. I was able to navigate to active alerts and other areas.
Have they removed the redirect now that they’ve been caught? Can the lapdog media continue to ignore Presidebt Petulant?

    • Gifted Placebo

It appears so. It was redirecting for me earlier, and it is back now.

    • Swagner

      Yeah, it’s back (for now…)

  • Gifted Placebo

Looks like Presidebt Stompy Foot reversed his tantrum – is back up now.

  • vcferlita

Now when I go to directly to I get “Due to lapse in funding, this Office of Justice Programs(OJP) website is unavailable.” They’re just screwing with people now. Juvenille and disgusting.

    • ObamaFail

President Foot Stomp wants his way, and he might start holding his breath next until he gets it!

  • RblDiver

Excuse me, I’d like to submit an Amber Alert: The country I grew up in has gone missing, please help find it!

    • Amy

I’d like to report that there appear to be no grown-ups left in DC.

  • ObamaFail

The Dems are playing a political game, all just to save Obamacare, which is obviously so bad, that they exempted themselves from it. Only a fool can’t see that the Dems are intentionally shutting certain things down just so they can make it out as a Doomsday scenario. Only a moron will fall for it.
It’s safe to say that the Dems will allow the country to default if it means they can later blame it all on Republicans, even though the Dems refusal to be as civil with the GOP as they are the Muslim Brotherhood and Assad would be what causes the default if it happens.

    • Rob

I don’t think Dems are fighting for Obamacate as much as they are fighting for he next election. None of the media really explains WHY R’s have allowed a shutdown. That they are trying to kill the vastly unpopular ACA.
Nope. It’s “R’s won’t compromise. Ted Cruz somehow has more power than Obama and the Tea Party super-minority are the reason you can’t *Insert Trivial Non-Essential Gov Program/Memorial*

Even though you and I know that the story IS “D’s would rather everyone suffer than even TALK about ACA’s failings”

  • Amy

It’s hard to imagine the leader of the free world doing anything more ridiculously childish and mean.

(And now I kind of regret having said that. Team Obama will probably take it as a “stretch goal”.)

  • Marcy Cook

Sam Stein – admit it. Obama administration got caught with their pants down. When their “moon” got smacked they back tracked.

    • aztectrumpet

They won’t admit it. this isn’t the first time his admin has been caught with their pant down.

  • 13strigoi

I’m glad someone finally caught on to this. I sincerely doubt they shutdown a single server or sent home a single admin. The only thing they’ve cut down on is trouble tickets for the staff who are probably streaming youtube videos on our dime.

  • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

Over 5 years of “Hey look, this is all their fault!” and that is still all the Democrats have to offer.

  • The Penguin

Used to be, when the administration would lie to the American people like this, they’d at least offer up some lame a$$ excuse when caught. Now they pretty much sh*t out whatever crap they want and don’t even deem us worthy an explanation when they get busted.

  • drw

“That’s kind of point… They basically threw a “non working” blanket over a working site.. Why?”
For the same reason all of the keyboard W’s went missing in the spitehouse in 2001.

  • The Penguin

Acting like immature self-entitled little children. Just like their voter base.

  • NRPax

How much extra did this stunt cost compared to not messing with it in the first place?

    • MNWoman

I was wondering if anyone is reporting how much the federal government is saving during the shutdown, but then I figured as long as the federal government continues to tax us, they will continue to spend.

  • Guest

Not working for me in any browser.

  • Penmar

Not working in any of my browsers by just removing /unavailable but does work by going directly to

  • MNWoman

Adm official: “The alerts themselves are issued jurisdictionally – by county or state. So the alert system… is not affected by shutdown”

So does that mean, at least for the duration of the shutdown, the federal government, specifically the DOJ, will stop interfering with things that are within the jurisdiction of individual states?

  • BlahBlah

One more thing – liability. They couldn’t shut it down because what if some kid went missing and turned up dead during that time frame? Hello lawsuit. In my opinion this is why they went through all the kindergarten hoops – make it look like it’s down to make the public hurt but not take it down for real in case something bad happens.

Goes to show just how deliberate and sick and twisted all this is. It had to come from the Psychopath-in-Chief himself.

  • ljcarolyne

BO had better take heed. You pull dirty tricks like this, your family is next. What goes around, comes around. God said it: It is written: “It is better that a millstone be tied around your neck and you be cast into the sea, than you hurt one of God’s little ones.”
BO not only has parasites up his A$$ due to you know what, they are coming out of his deranged insane evil mind now. What a sicko, psycho. . .dangerous as Hell.
His day is no doubt coming, you bet ya!

  • BigTBoom

Don’t worry about kidnapped kids, they can still pay games on the US Mint website while in captivity…, or check out some art on the National Gallery of Art’s page,, or have the first lady lecture them on fitness at But they cannot explore the science in the atmosphere and oceans, (except current weather events, redirects them to one of those shutdown screens.

  • Zach Smith

And you thought the Obama administration couldn’t get any sleazier or more political. Ha! Fooled you!

  • Jason Gary

So, you’re telling me that THIS site is being actively funded? Please… I know how the internet works. A page is taken down for a specific reason, not because it’s owner suddenly stopped paying for its administration the day before.
