Wait, what?

No. No it isn’t.

Sigh. Economy thingies are hard! So are numbers, evidently.

The mockery was swift and hilarious.

Loss is the new gain. I lost 20 pounds, no you gained 20 pounds.

    • Lord Foggybottom

those 20 pounds gained are 20 pounds you took away from a starving child. WHY ARE YOU KILLING OUR CHILDREN?

      • Elaine

Liberal math. Is that included in the “common core” curriculum?

      • Garrett Gripling

Those are not dead children, those are alive children.

I’m reading 1984 right now and the more I read, the more terrifying it is.

  • Michael Anderson (WB)

So we are having steady negative jobs gains?

  • socalcon

No wonder some voters are maligned with the tag ‘Low Information’. More accurately “High Dis-Information”.

  • nc

All of this is the Big Set Up for the Mother of All Giveaway Programs: The ObamaCare Sugar. Once that stuff starts flowing, we will never be able to turn it off.

  • Michael Anderson (WB)

Of the 205 million working age adults in the US 0.16% lost their jobs last month and applied for unemployment benefits.

55 thousand more children could go hungry this month because the administration is hostile to working families.

That’s Michelle’s plan for lowering childhood obesity.

Their arms are so tired from carrying all that water for Obama they can no longer think straight.

    • Chevypowered

Are you kidding? All that water carrying, the AP could probably bench press a Buick!

  • Chevypowered

Obama’s administration slaps the AP around and like a good little abused spouse still defend their lover to the end. How romantic.

  • MarcusFenix

Of course, the AP is forgetting the caveat of percentages that “new” jobs have been….mainly food service and retail, traditionally on the lowest end of the pay scale. And a pretty decent chunk of those jobs are all part time.

Something else of note…in May/June, stats were being touted about how we added 200k+ jobs into the economy…but Obama and his people forgot one important footnote. At the same time that 200k jobs were added, approximately 5,000,000 high school and college graduates entered the job force full time. So, add 200k jobs, increase the already bloated job pool by another 5 million people……Just saying.

Obama can’t get out of office fast enough.

  • Marvin Nelson

Typical lapdog math-more is less. I quit reading AP years ago; still searching for real journalism.

    • MNWoman

I don’t think there will ever be real journalism. I like Breitbart et al., but they are not so much objective jouralists as they are trying to combat liberal media bias. Same with Fox News. They clearly have conservative political views, but with the MSM strongly supporting the liberal agenda, we need aggressive alternative media to represent conservative views, too.

  • RblDiver

Was hearing that spin put on it on NPR today as well, was like “Wait, if joblessness is up…how is this a good thing?”

  • MNWoman

After I read this, I was sure I read it wrong it and went back to read it again.

Nope, I read it correctly. WTH?

I realize this “math-y” thing is hard, but could someone explain to me–like I’m a 5th grader–how an INCREASE in the number of unemployment applications equates to an INCREASE in the number of jobs? Are they counting the jobs that have just been vacated as “jobs created”?

  • jb

he’s going to make good on that 2008 campaing promise to halve the deficit. Hell, after you triple it, bringing it down by 1/2 is still an increase…. but he halved it.

    • Jeff H

Only if, by “halve”, you mean “times 1.5″…

  • GaryTheBrave

How many more unemployed have ran out of benefits, like my sister, and are no longer included in the statistics?

    • Abiss

      9 MIL. Roughly.

      • GaryTheBrave

I’ll have to tell my sister she is now counted among the employed.

  • Keith

Obama the Moron teaches them well. Just look at the lie of “saved or created jobs.” The US could have, as an example, 100 million employees and if 50 million of them lost their jobs then the messiah would still say “see I saved 50 million jobs.”

  • http://www.freedomreconnection.com CO2 Producer

The employment-to-population ratio has steadily risen from 58.3% to 58.7% since December of 2009–a whopping .4%. Also since that time, the civilian labor force participation rate has steadily dropped 1.2%, from 64.6% to 63.4%.

    Steady as she blows.

    • Abiss

      Oh. She blows alright…

    Said best by Louis Cammarosano:

“@AP no it doesnt indicate job gains!! It mean fewer jobs lost. A job not lost is not a job gained”.

Now someone needs to explain that to BO and his fellow Keynesian know-nothings.
