Oh my! Drudge editor Joseph Curl seems to have caught former Democrat congressman (and failed presidential candidate) Dick Gephardt pulling a fast one and posted the photo to Twitter Wednesday. Was he asked to put his bags there or did the first class ass take it upon himself to do so?

Indeed. You can take the boy out of the entrenched beltway entitlement bubble, but you can’t take the entrenched beltway entitlement mentality out of the boy.

    • LinTaylor

Why not? It’s worth more than he is.

  • Gromit

    Dick Gephardt is still alive?

  • JohnnyN2O

Met Ol’ Gephart while waiting for a flight @ SFO 30 years ago. He was Dick then too.

  • Atlanta Media Guy

Was his underwear clean or dirty at the time of the flight?

    • Joe W.

      Ask the TSA.

Come on, guys!? I agree he’s putz but this is getting pretty petty. I sense Twitchy is sinking into the the same swamp that Rush and even Sean Hannity have. I may be in violent agreement with them on politics but why does it have to be about “slamming” someone all the time. Let their actions speak for themselves — but only when they actually do speak for themselves. The petty “gotcha’s”, especially when it is NOT self-evident, or when it’s someone who has been out of the public eye, seemingly, FOREVER, are a distraction from the real issues at hand. They seriously undermine the credibility of your (our) overall effort. For the record, I’ve been ASKED by flight attendants to put my bag in 1st class overhead to speed departure. (I will also admit say that, because I’m usually eligible for free upgrades, when I don’t get one, I feel “entitled” 😉

Let’s let notable people embarrass themselves about real issues. Gebhardt isn’t really notable, and this isn’t a real issue.

Meh. You’d figure there are plenty of other websites to your liking.
      Or, start your own.

      • KansasGirl

        DU comes to mind.

    • Fire and Adjust!

I agree with your overall sentiment, however, in this particular instance I’m going to file this under our attempt to bring “credibility to our overall effort” by having bipartisan participation in the “See something, Say something” campaign.

    • Jeff McCabe

petty unless you have had to search for a place to put your luggage because some jackass stuck his above your seat.

    • GrindingMills

I think we can cut him some slack. He’s in Group 5, and typically that late in the process, the overhead bins in coach are full, and everyone who is sitting in first class is already on the plane. This isn’t even close to egregious.

    Slow day in the Twitterverse.

It would be more of a story if Gephardt had stowed his bags in coach and then tried to sit in an empty seat in the first class section while holding a coach ticket, under the assumption that he was famous enough to get away with it.

  • CrashFroelich

I believe Dick was helping one of his imaginery friends.

    • Robert Smith

      lol….I remember that.

  • Weygand

Why would there be empty overheads in First Class? Plus, where does it say that the bags belonging to steerage have to be stored in steerage?

  • Harry A

We have a congressman who flies coach? That’s the only part of this story that i find surprising. Not only is he sitting in coach but he also didnt board ahead of his section (which would show entitlement mentality) but waited until his group was called. But instead you think I care where he stores his bag? I doubt those are actions many of the other congressmen would take. The story tried to show his “entitlement mentality”, but in reality showed the exact opposite.

  • Zorro

A sorry sight to see. No courtesy or consideration for those sitting in the seats below. Sad.

  • InformedNow

Typical Lib mentality! No Class and utterly CHEAP!

LOL That was my first thought too! It is a non story as KristineAz said but it is almost akin to spotting Bigfoot.

This is really reaching. This is a non-story. Sorry.

Come on Twitchy, dump this one; this could have happened to anyone. It’s not worth the egg on the face. There’s plenty of dumb liberal stuff to look at.

  • ericdondero

I have a little story to tell. Flying to Philadelphia from Houston few months ago, a nice man helped me put my bags up in a very stuffed overhead. At first I thought he was being a d*ck moving bags around without anyone’s permission. Then he asked the lady next to me if she minded if he moved her bags to make room for this gentleman’s (me) bags. She consented. He lifted up my bag and stowed it away. I looked at him, and said, “I know you. I’ve seen you on TV.” He coyly waved me a way with a small smirk.

I am a Republican, diehard libertarian Tea Partyer. And normally I absolutely despise Democrats, as in all Democrats.

After the flight was over, the two of us ended up right next to each other in the line headed out of the plane. He knew I knew he was someone famous.

He turned to me, put out his hand, looked me straight in the eye and said:

Hi, I’m Delaware Senator Thomas Carper. A United States Senator stowed away my bags. That’s service.
