Hee hee! Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) appeared on “Fox News Sunday” on Sunday morning.

Those who did tune in were treated to a delightful zinger on Sen. Schumer’s “concern” for the GOP.

More from Hot Air:

Rep. Trey Gowdy offers a fine moment of snark before getting down to business on immigration reform on Fox News Sunday. John Roberts opens the segment by asking Gowdy about Senator Chuck Schumer’s advice to Republicans to quickly pass the Gang of Eight bill in order to survive over the next several years.  Gowdy declines to take Schumer’s advice, and instead insists that the House will take a border-security-first approach (via RCPand Scott Johnson)

He then schools Schumer on why the Senate’s Gang of  Eight immigration bill will not pass in the House.

Hot Air also has video of the sarcastic slam: Must-see TV!

Trying to concern troll, Sen. Schumer? Guess again!

Citizens once again love what Gowdy is putting down:

Indeed. Gowdy also hinted that there is more to come on the Lois Lerner pleading of the Fifth debacle. Gowdy has fiercely, and rightly, savaged the IRS for its targeting of conservatives, its bloated bureaucracy and wasteful spending, and its “character issue.

I think Gowdy’s name needs to start being mentioned in the list of 2016 hopefuls especially if Cruz decides not to run.

    • OneThinDime

Be careful, Gowdy has hinted many times about amnesty and citizenship. That is unconstitutional and violates Rule of Law.

      • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

I don’t think he will vote for the Senate bill though, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he will do the right thing until he proves me wrong. Anyone whom he represents should still call him and let him know they don’t support the bill though, I’m willing to bet he would listen unlike Rubio or Graham.

        • OneThinDime

Whether he votes on the Senate bill, amnesty is the same thing, a free pass for violating our borders, our rule of law and that puts him in the same group with Graham, McCain and the other Senate GangBangers.

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

While I agree with the sentiment, saying he wants reform is a lot different than spearheading it and voting on it. If he does I will be the first one to call him out on it.

          • OneThinDime

I understand what you are saying but Gowdy is the Immigration Subcommittee chair so it ALL goes through him for blessing.

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

But as Adela above me says, it isn’t something he is actively pursuing and unlike Rubio or Graham he wants border security first before anything is done with citizenship. It isn’t what I agree with because I am with you on no amnesty period, but it isn’t fair to compare him to RINOs like Graham since he doesn’t want border security on the back burner. I honestly don’t think he will go along with any bill that puts amnesty at the forefront though I could be wrong.

          • OneThinDime

He will receive the House GangBanger bill which equals the Senate’s, says Rule of Law outside one side of his mouth and Amnesty out the other side of his mouth. Just sneakier than Graham and calls Graham a dear friend.

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Let’s not make assumptions about things that haven’t happened yet. Gowdy is a good conservative as of right now so he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I’m not going to bash him for things he hasn’t done yet, that is my bottom line.

          • OneThinDime

This is the 2nd time he has spoken of Amnesty. Waiting until the bill is passed is too late. Gowdy must have his feet held to the fire like the rest of the GOP. Ignoring early warning signals is why we are always betrayed by the GOP.

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Talking about an issue and being diplomatic on a TV show is different that voting on a bad bill though. He might be feeling pressure from the party too which is why I’m all for contacting him and letting him know what you think.

      • Adela Wagner

At around 4:30 on the vid he starts talking about NOT having a blanket amnesty for all. He talks about children brought here as babies, he talks about background checks, he talks about criminals, about a child who has been here since the age of 10 compared to someone only here 30 weeks. He talks about any kind of amnesty being the last thing worked out AFTER border security and getting the law straight with local and state governments being clear on what the rule of law is and how it will be followed.

He points out the Senate bill basically wants to just give it across the board.

One thing I know for sure. It does not matter what McCain nor Schumer say, Republicans cannot go into this thinking it will save the party. True Conservatives are SICK of this Neo-Con crap. And no matter what anyone says, if you give all these ILLEGAL ALIENS amnesty along with a welcome wagon basket from the republican party, they are NOT going to vote republican. So do it because it may be wrong to send someone back who has lived here their whole life, or you don’t want to break up a family or you really love taco’s, but don’t do it because you think it’s gonna get you some votes from them.

        • OneThinDime

Amnesty for anyone violates our federal laws. His “Humanity” “Faith leaders” is just crap. Deport the [email protected], every single one of them. They violate our laws every day they are illegally in our country.

Check out Mark Levin’s approach! Let Gowdy argue why this shouldn’t be America’s law! http://dailyrushbo.com/absolutely-stunning-mark-levin-details-mexican-immigration-law/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

          • Adela Wagner

I’m the last one for Amnesty. my mother came here from Cuba back in the late 50’s and became a citizen. Amnesty is a slap in the face to every legal immigrant in this country. My 12th great grandfather is Francis Cooke, I am a direct descendent from the Mayflower and I am VERY protective of this country and our way of life.

And I agree, Mex Immigration Law SHOULD be put on the floor of both houses.
I am just saying that Gowdy is NOT for Amnesty period. And I plan to send him a link to that article.

          • OneThinDime

Thank you to your family for coming to America legally. Your family is who we WANT to immigrate. Reagan’s 1986 amnesty caused HUGE problems and now we have 11+million more of them. Yes amnesty is a slap in the face to those that followed the immigration laws AND those of us born here!

Love Levin’s proposal and is the ONLY thing, besides Gowdy’s enforcement by local and state officials bill that should be considered by the House.

          • http://www.black-and-right.com/ IceColdTroll

One thing to remember too about the “Reagan Amnesty” is that it was pressed on him, largely by Democrats, with the promise that as SOON as it was done, they’d tighten up that ol’ border and make sure illegal immigrants were never a problem again.

          • OneThinDime

Reagan’s 1984 POTUS debate begs to differ. Reagan was pushing amnesty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfHKIq5z80U

          • http://www.black-and-right.com/ IceColdTroll

As I understand it, it was due largely to pressure from Democrats who offered assurances in return that they would act to secure the borders.

“According to Ronald Reagan himself, as told to his trusted long-time friend and U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese, the biggest mistake of his presidency was signing the 1986 amnesty for what turned out to be more than half the five million illegal immigrants in the country. Reagan was uncomfortable with the amnesty but was persuaded by some of the leaders of his own party (still living) that it would only affect a small number of illegal immigrants and would assure that Congress would follow through with more vigorous enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. The misnamed Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986 was touted by its supporters as “comprehensive immigration reform” that would grant amnesty only to a few long-settled immigrants and strengthen border security and internal immigration enforcement against employers who were hiring illegal immigrants.”

The real issue here, as I see it, isn’t the “amnesty” part so much as the prospect that this is just one more opportunity for liberals/progressives to exploit, to lie to conservatives and Republicans, and to continue their assault on our national integrity. Or to use an cliche, let us beware of Greeks, and Democrats, bearing gifts.

          • OneThinDime

It’s always easier to backtrack when you find out the illegal aliens vote for the Dems as they did in the US. If you listen to him in the You Tube, he was the amnesty champion. He did NOTHING to seal the border, stop the amnesty or rescind the citizenship when the illegal aliens became public charges (remains illegal today) all were within his power as POTUS.

          • http://www.black-and-right.com/ IceColdTroll

Note too, it was not a “blanket” amnesty, or was not meant to be. Please read the above carefully, and understand what Reagan believed himself to be advocating.. And I seriously question your assessment of what powers are in the President’s hands to do any of what you charge him with “failing” to do, particularly with a hostile Congress.

          • OneThinDime

I know full well what the 1986 amnesty law had in it. Reagan had tremendous power. He believed the amnestied Hispanics would vote Republican. Research his son, he still spews that, the GOP still spews that. The POTUS has veto power and could have vetoed every bit of spending on that amnesty and failed to do so. He pimped for votes and lost. In fact, he doomed this country to millions of illegal aliens and tens of millions more now that are destroying the US.

          • nc

Legal immigrants that followed the law to come here are the best!

          • OneThinDime

Yes they are an NO ONE should slap them or US-born citizens in the face by rewarding those that violate our laws EVERY SINGLE DAY with their illegal presence.

          • Cactus Pete

My mother and her parents and family immigrated from Mexico abt 1915 and waited to be allowed in. They did it the legal way and I do not want anyone that is here illegally to get amnisty, period. Pass a law retroactively that all anchor babies are not legal citizens.

          • http://www.black-and-right.com/ IceColdTroll

Thank you and your folks for being here, and for doing it right.

          • nc

The voices of legal immigrants like those of your family have been nearly drowned out in this debate. Where is YOUR representation?

I also agree that any “amnesty” agreement without eliminating the anchor baby bennie for illegals is worthless. It’s the number one magnet.

          • http://www.black-and-right.com/ IceColdTroll

God bless your mother! I’m glad she made it, and I’m glad she blessed the world with you! You are quite right, although I could understand and accept a limited “amnesty” for extraordinary circumstances, this massive “Aw gee whiz, folks, forget about it, come on in!” is, as you say, an insult to everyone now and in the past who followed the rules.

    • OneThinDime
    • Bill

Absolutely AGREE!! He was the ONLY one on the IRS panel who caught the fact that Lerner plead the 5th – then proclaimed she was innocent. Gowdy cried foul immediately! He has been a bulldog for conservative and truly deserves recognition for his work!

    • Bill Board

Gowdy/Cruz or Cruz/Gowdy in 2016. (Got it RNC? NO MORE moderate RINO’S!)

    • mapache

In my 2016 fantasy administration Gowdy could be AG (If Mark Levin and Judge Napolitano are unavailable)

    • TocksNedlog

Senators and governors get elected President; congressmen do NOT. He needs to become a Senator first.

      • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Whatever experience he has it is more than what Obama had.

        • TocksNedlog

          No argument, there.

But that fact won’t get him elected.

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

I honestly don’t think being a Senator would make that big of a difference either to tell you the truth, at least to the low information voter.

    • nibblesyble

      Yeeeeesss! Agree 100%

Gowdy needs to replace Lindsey Graham, that cracka.

HA HA HA HA….I stand corrected Kenny. Although I think I’d rather be crazy ass than creepy ass. LOL

  • mickeyco

Great. He can give one of the most sane, emotional testimonies ever heard in the House and he can snark with the best of them. Can’t he be Speaker till a better job opens up?

  • NixTyranny

Too bad SC has open primaries where Dems can cross over to keep their good friend, Lindsey Graham, as the Repub Senate nominee. Without such an open primary, Gowdy would be able to do us all a favor and knock Lindsey “McCain Jr” Graham out of the US Senate.

  • fishydude

Reid: “Don’t throw me in the briar patch.”
Okay, we won’t. What an idiot. Their desperation is showing.
Does he really think we can be filed again? Given that history shows voters to have very short memories, it is no guarantee that enough voters do remember 1986 shamnesty.
No amnesty EVAH! Force the securing of the borders, allow states full autonomy to enforce federal law when the sitting administration refuses to. Sovereignty is not an issue of international affairs. It is a states rights issue.

  • David Shrock

    Trey Gowdy for DOJ.

Schumer reminds me of when, worried about the GOP’s future, Stephen Douglas advised Lincoln to drop the slavery issue off his platform [sarc]

The really sad part is that dupes like Landslide McCain, Lindsey Graham, and The Rube really believe that Chuck Schumer is trying to help the Republican Party.

I repeat myself, “Can we all just have a quick moment of silence to honor Trey Gowdy?”

ICYMI – Gowdy on Amnesty = Humanity He is as pro-amnesty, legalization & citizenship for illegal aliens as Grahamnesty, ignores US citizens, our rule of law. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PdFI9ph20s&feature=c4-overview&list=UUVvxvugtuNZSygB4z4aVfsg

      Thank you!

Updated entry: I just now read what OTD wrote about TG being pro-amnesty – What? I had said thank you for the clip because I hadn’t seen it and I just jumped to it and watched it. Gowdy isn’t pro-amnesty, not in my book.

Thank God for the edit button.

It’s great to know that someone in congress admitting to the senate immigration bill is nothing but smoke and mirror. So glad to have Gowdy and Cruz in our congress, both have spine and balls. Please keep on fighting for “We the people”, something that is amiss in the senate. Check and balance within three branches of government????

If the Democrats don’t get 11 million more voters on their side, they’ll surely win. The only hope of beating the Democrats is making sure they have these 11 million votes ASAP so they’ll lose.

Because in an election, more votes mean you lose.. I guess. When did that change again?

  • bittman

I hope Trey Gowdy primaries Lindsey Graham and wins.

  • James McEnanly

The only reason I could see for Chuck Schumer to keep some form of the Republican party alive would be as a permanent scapegoat for when things go wrong, as they are certain to do. Otherwise, any debate would be like a Jeff Dunham routine.

I caught that segment with Representative Gowdy and laughed so hard when he said that. What a great line. With such dry humor and tongue in cheek, he told the truth about Chuck Schumer in that one zinger then Schumer has said in his whole life. I love Trey Gowdy.
