Classy, as always.

Bingo. As Twitchy reported, SCOTUS today struck down the Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional. It also punted on Prop 8 and ruled no standing, making same-sex marriage legal in California.

Huh. Funny how the Left was screeching and wailing over SCOTUS just yesterday.

The Left today exposed themselves as the sore winners that they are. Again.

Bingo.

Stay classy.

STATES’ RIGHTS BITCHES! (Pardon my language 😉 ) Seriously, though, nothing has changed. People on the left thinking their are rainbows in the sky, flowers blooming, and everyone in the US is singing kumbaya. Nothing has changed. The states’ right to define marriage was once again stated clearly and strongly. Federall, marriage has no definition as it is left up to the states! Prop 8 is thrown out so nothing happened there. Fellow conservatives, celebrate!!! STATES’ RIGHTS IS BACK!! YES!

    • ceemack

Uh, those of us in California might tend to disagree with you.

Thanks to today’s ruling, one gay federal judge was able to overturn the will of the people of California.

      • Andrea Gonzales

Prop 8 was a complicated case, and a complex one as well. From what I understand, a piece of legislation was already inacted, it was challenged by a referendum that repealed gay marriage, and it was then taken to the California Supreme Court which deemed it constitutional. There would be many courts that would question the decision of a referendum and the 9th circuit, a liberal circuit, found the ACTION of taking something that was already legalized away as unconstitutional. States have different ways in solving issues such as voting on amendments, legislative action, or state courts. Successes and failures on both sides of the issue. Prop 8 is a complex case so I can see either side failing and I’m disappointed that the Supreme Court did not figure it out so we wouldn’t have judicial activism running amuck.

Nothing screams gloating like pointless vulgarities.

  • GrindingMills

Let’s be realistic, we would have said the same stuff if SCOTUS overturned Obamacare, so I can’t blame them for celebrating. Plus the libertarian in me in kind of excited about it as well. The government has no business inserting themselves into marriage (or anything really).

    • MJUdall

Proof that most libertarians are idiots which is why you never get anywhere politically. I mean…what’s the point? If a person wants to be liberal they don’t need the libertarian party, they could just vote for the Democrat party. You’re an idiot because you just equaled Obamacare and DOMA as the same kind of law with the same type of intrusions, invasions of privacy and outright governmental tyranny on the individual.

      • GrindingMills

No, I compared Obamacare and DOMA as significant SCOTUS decisions in the last year that have produced significant reactions.

My understand of the Court’s decision on DOMA is that the states have the right to decide whether or not they want to allow gay marriage. I personally think this is a state’s rights issue. If, for example, in California and two men or women have the ability to get married, they should have the corresponding federal benefits (joint tax returns, Social Security survivor benefits, ect.) I don’t think this is an unreasonable point of view.

        • MJUdall

Yeah and that’s about all this gay marriage stuff is about. Its not about love or the right to marry. It’s about the benefits. Bravo TV just celebrated this decision since they will get to begin a whole new industry of gay divorce reality shows. Obamacare decision is not relevant because its clear that Roberts was blackmailed by the Obama administration. Its not the same. There’s a lot more riding on the line in the Obamacare decision than whether or not 1-3% of the population of Nancies and Butches can marry.

          • GrindingMills

We’ll agree to disagree on the merits of gay marriage, but I want to be clear on my comparison to the Obamacare judgement. It has nothing to do with the decision beyond the fact that both had the ability to create significant reactions from the public.

    • Lotte Lenya

In that instance, I might say “thank God”, not a stream of vulgar attention seeking blather.

      • GrindingMills

I agree, but I’m sure there’s more reasoned reactions on Twitter besides the 13 Tweets that Twitchy featured. That’s the one downfall of the format of this site, they can only feature a snapshot of what is really happening on Twitter.

    • Guest

This decision expands government involvement in marriage and stands against the right of voters to decide what marriage is. Libertarians, if they were true to their ideals, would oppose it.

    • mickeyco

So I’ve seen all sorts of people on Facebook basically thinking gay marriage is legal nationwide now since DOMA was struck down. Ummm, negatory.

I’m fine with DOMA being gone (states rights and all), but it doesn’t make gay marriage the law of the land.

    People are clueless.

    • waltzingmtilda

Yep, same here. I’ve had too explain it three times today. And I agree with you re: DOMA because I am big on states rights.

Prop 8 I’m not happy about(again, states rights, and the will of the people and all that), but I do understand the reasoning behind the decision.

      • kate_middleton

Glad it’s not just my dumb friends getting it wrong. One of mine posted something about how excited they were for next year’s wedding season. (Eyeroll)

I’m okay with gay marriage personally. But it’s pretty funny seeing people get things so wrong. Or see their hatred for SCOTUS yesterday turn into unadulterated love today.

        • waltzingmtilda

Also fine with gay marriage. My guess is most of these gloaters (including the head nitwit Meggie Mac) think something happened that did not actually happen.

      • Jerry Camp

Actually, Prop 8 was passed by the ‘will of the people’. The California Supreme Court overturned that vote.

        • Discontentwliars

The California Supreme Court up held it, and the District Federal court, and the 9th Circuit court of appeals, District Federal court said it wasn’t. Since the State (Jerry Brown) decided not to defend prop 8 at the supreme court, the people of the state tried to take it up. The supreme court said they people of California don’t have standing, to bring the case to them, (so it’ll apply to the 9th Circuit court also, and is as if they hadn’t ruled). The Federal court ruling only applies to the people in the case (two people), so it doesn’t apply to everyone in California, only those 2 people. The governor of California is just ignoring the laws of the state to uphold the ruling until struck down by a higher court. The higher court said it wouldn’t take it, so it’s back to following the laws of the state, and enforcing Prop 8. Its all just a circus, with the state representatives ignoring those that elected them. The issue isn’t resolved.

          • Jerry Camp

Wait, 1 man / 1 woman definition of marriage wasn’t voted into law by 52% of Californians by referendum?

          • Discontentwliars

Prop 8 did pass by Californians. Jerry Brown is just ignoring the initiative. Sorry if it wasn’t clear. Part of the issue we have today with elected officials in several states and US gov.

          • Jerry Camp

Ok, I got it…another case of minority tyranny, overriding the will of the majority…got it.

    • Andrea Gonzales

^ THIS. See that comment? THAT ONE!
I lol’ed at many of my friends with me. Eating chocolate cake and watching the news like nerds we are. I was such a downer when I told them nothing has changed really. Gay marriage is still illegal in more than half the states. You should’ve seen the looks they gave me. LOL

  • $30423294

Friends, we knew all along this has nothing to do with marriage.

It is about something far darker.

These are not decent people seeking justice. They are seething animals looking for retribution for God-knows-what private grievance they hold against the world.

    • Paula A. R. DeAngelis, PhD

There is absolutely no prohibition whatsoever that prohibits two unrelated adults of the opposite sex from being married; none. “Gay marriage” is, in fact, simply a special right that the Gay Lobby is beginning to obtain in some states.

By telling gays that they are entitled to a special right, the SCOTUS has set them apart and made them UNEQUAL.

I would urge room-mates to marry (even if they’re not intimate romantic partners) to take advantage of the new law in states where they can to reduce your taxes and preserve the ability of your roommate to pay rent (or a mortgage) if they become disable.. I would urge teams of stick-up men to “marry” before they pull their heists so that the police can no longer use the testimony of one against the other. Moving further, I would urge wealthy single people to marry much younger poorer distant single relatives to save their estates from the tax man and preserve wealth within the family, etc.

Five Leftist on the SCOTUS have destroyed the fundamental building block of Western Civilization, destroyed any meaning to the word “marrage” and taken a giant step in restricting your personal liberty.

Now, its time for you to take advantage of it. Evey man or woman for themselves.

  • Lisa Dean

So, who’s the bitches? Clinton and the members of Congress who signed DOMA into law? It’s true – liberals do eat each other and they don’t even get it.

    • Paula A. R. DeAngelis, PhD

They already have your rights. Nobody is stopping them from marrying anyone, only from obtaining special rights to “marry” someone of the same sex.

      • Male Factor

I know. I was being sarcastic.

Who really cares who marries who? I don’t care if someone is gay. Keep it out of my face. Keep it out of my church.

It may be legal. It may be sanctioned by the State. It will never be normal.Sorry BITCHES!

    • TocksNedlog

To whom are you saying “Oh please”?

  • Discontentwliars

I guess bitches now refers to someone you disagree with now instead of female dogs or angry women. So many words are taking on new meanings now days. So when does prostitution start referring standard business practice, and abortion is the present you give your 12 year old daughter. The standard response to someone that says your married will be “to what?” I don’t know why a person couldn’t marry a dog, cat or horse and pass on their benefits to those they love. So why is polygamy a problem? I would think that people should marry those they love. SS benefits just need to be re-defined to include them. It doesn’t really matter if they are male/female (should I add gay to the description or does it matter?). Why are there laws preventing people that love each other just because of age. If it’s ok for young people to get/use birth control, then they should love and marry as they wish. The next 20 years ought to be really interesting.

    • NachoCheese (D)

      I don’t know why a person couldn’t marry a dog, cat or horse…

Because a non-human is incapable of entering into a contract (which is all the government concept of marriage really is).

So why is polygamy a problem?

Provided all parties have reached the age of majority and not been adjudged mentally incapacitated or deficient, why not?

Why are there laws preventing people that love each other just because of age.

A minor is incapable of entering into a contract (which is all the government concept of marriage really is).

      • Discontentwliars

I don’t know why you’d want to limit this. Of course if an animal makes a mark, and it can be witnessed, there should be an issue for making a contract. We are just animals too, so what makes humans better then a porpoise or horse.
Same for Minors, if they are old enough to make the decision for birth control, abortion and sex as a minor, then why aren’t they capable of making a contract, since consent to an abortion with a doctor is exactly that. It make no sense to say it isn’t allowed.

  • Jerry Camp

And here I thought ‘bipartisan’ was something liberals supported…

Passed the House on July 12, 1996 (Yeas: 342; Nays: 67)
Passed the Senate on September 10, 1996 (Yeas: 85; Nays: 14)
Signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996

I’m not sure how much more bipartisan you can get…it was more bipartisan than Bush’s authorization of force in Iraq, as seen below:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:H.J.Res._114_Iraq_Resolution_Votes_October_2002.png

    • TocksNedlog

Yeah, like they ever wait for an opportunity.

  • MJUdall

The left are morons. They act as if marriage between a man and a woman was a concept created last week and the fact that almost every religion on the planet recognizes marriage as ONLY between a man and a woman. And let’s not forget the laws of nature. But not to worry, because I’m sure the 1-3% of loudmouths of the population that are gay will find another crusade to demand that the churches should be forced to recognize them in those religious institutions and marry them. What a world. Somewhere God is pissed.

Wonder if this will get printed in the right wing media ……….

Internet Catches Texas Senate Altering Timestamp on Abortion Bill Vote

After a half-day filibuster that was controversially halted by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Republicans in the Texas Senate scrambled to quickly pass the equally controversial abortion bill SB5, but were halted themselves by two hours of motions and parliamentary inquiries from Democrats trying to run out the clock on Gov. Rick Perry’s special session.

In the end, it all came down to a last-minute vote that could barely be heard over the din of cheers from pro-choice activists gathered in the gallery.

But where did that last minute fall — before or after the bill’s midnight deadline?

The Associated Press and several other large media outlets initially reported that the bill had passed, taking Lt. Gov. Dewhurst’s word that the vote was taken “just before” 12 AM.

But Democratic State Senators and the tens of thousands who witnessed the vote live on a YouTube stream were skeptical.

As well they should have been.

Screengrabs of the official SB5 results page captured by several wonks clearly show the record vote was called after midnight local time, and was therefore dated 6/26.

But seconds later the results page was suddenly taken down, and when it returned, the vote’s date had miraculously been altered to make it seem as though it had been cast in time — on 6/25.

So what happened? Did someone tamper with official state documents? It would seem so, and that’s a crime.

As Technology Policy Analyst Kathy Gill notes over at The Moderate Vote:

In my experience (I’ve done web work since 1993 or so), pages like this one are automatically generated from a database file. In other words, a person doesn’t code the page.

In order to change something like this, someone has to change the database. And things like votes and official times, they’re often (usually?) automatically generated also.

In other words, changes like this are deliberate.

Ultimately, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst conceded that the vote was three minutes too late, and SB5 was pronounced dead.

    • Joe W.
