As Twitchy reported, there was a closed captioning oops on the night that Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured and taken into custody. According to the closed captioning, the suspect was Zooey Deschanel. It was a much-needed moment of levity, for most.

Naturally, the Huffington Post felt the need to show its idiocy … by blaming Fox News. For an outside party’s closed captioning error. They did update the article, but only to clarify it was a “local affiliate.” Protip for HuffPo: Google is your friend.

“Red Eye” ombudsman Andy Levy took HuffPo to task.

https://twitter.com/BigGingerNole82/status/325862438912274433

He did. And it was glorious.

Beautiful.

Twitter users agree.

Heh.

https://twitter.com/jlynnew/status/325960829998612480

We do, too. Keep them coming, Mr. Levy!

  • Dr Natural

Andy Levy is now the ombudsman of the world.
And we couldn’t be in better hands.

    • Sons Thunder

Weird — I thought this type of ranting was indicative of a ‘meltdown’ or a ‘hissy fit.’

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

That’s probably because you’re unused to recognizing truth when you hear it. Keep coming back. You’ll get it one day.

        • Sons Thunder

The only difference between an ‘epic takedown’ and a ‘hissy fit’ is the speaker. What you call ‘truth,’ most of the world calls ‘hypocrisy.’

          • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

See? You still don’t get it.

          • Russel aka ‘Rusty’ Shackleford

You are still not demonstrating thought.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tucker-Latham/100003799320251 Tucker Latham

I have to reiterate here that three posts in four minutes is not a rant. When leftists are accused of a “meltdown” or a “hissy fit” – at least, so far as I’ve seen – we’re talking about half a dozen tweets in the space of three minutes, or twenty over the space of an hour. Three tweets in four minutes does not a meltdown make.

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Don’t forget that they also TYPE IN ALL CAPS WITH LOTS OF EXCLAMATION POINTS TOO!!!!!

        • WWMD

Yeah there are always 2 sides to the truth right?

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tucker-Latham/100003799320251 Tucker Latham

I don’t think it has anything to do with whether or not the person so “ranting” is speaking the “truth.” After all, when a leftist actually does rant while espousing some leftist ideology, he or she is not criticized for saying something untrue – he or she is criticized for the obsessive nature of their string of replies, which are labeled “hissy fits” or “meltdowns,” to borrow from “Sons Thunder.” Not that this is, either – three tweets total in four minutes is nowhere near that.

      • trixiewoobeans

        It’s called righteous indignation, Blunder.

      • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

It’s only a ‘hissy fit’ if you are wrong. Case in point: you.

        • Sons Thunder

Weird. I wanted to retweet Andy Levy’s awesome comment about the Boston bomber wearing a Che t-shirt but he deleted it for some reason.

He does that. These are gone too. Once he realized they were wrong?

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

At least he deletes them when he realizes they are wrong, yet Huffington Post’s tweet is still there even after being proven wrong.

      • WWMD

        Or a liar

        “I thought “-No you didn’t.

I see where you’re coming from, but you’re a bit off the mark. This was a grouping of three tweets within four minutes. That’s nowhere near “meltdown” or “hissy fit” in my opinion. Gutfeld’s latest (as of the time of this posting) on Twitchy comes far closer to that.

  • mickeyco

Every few weeks, I turn over to Huffpo just to check it out. 2 minutes is about all I can stand.

Maybe it was a spell check thing. We all know how that works.

Hmm, consider what might have happened: If the suspect was Joe Smith, or Redneck Steve, there would be no chance of awkward spell check because these are American patterns.

But since the name was a foreign name, i.e., someone who came to our country with the intent to kill us, such a foreign name would trigger a correction by the transcription software into something contained on a word list of high frequency names not quite spelled in the way that typical American names are spelled.

You know what I mean? I think you do.

Deep down, I think we all realize that, whoever tried to kill us had a name with a very foreign look and feel. The fox news captioning software, which is inanimate, figured that much out. The Puffington? Beat by a machine because I suspect many of them still believe it was an inside job. Spot the real idiot. Thinking is hard work Puffsters!

What’s that..? They did a post like hundreds of other news sites about same thing. They corrected it from Fox News to local fox but its same thing owned by Fox News so closed caption computers bought same money. Still Fox News what’s different? Oh and twitchy. They posted same story. When this came up they scrubbed it. Never retract make it disappear

  • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Hi. I’m a writer for the huffing ton post. While the person I wrote about didn’t say what CC wrote on the screen I’m going to write that she did any ways because it was in the CC. I’m not going to bother to see if it was an “oops” because my preconceived notions and derangement syndrome validates that even though she didn’t say it or infer it its something I think she would say. So there you go.

    • WWMD

Hi what makes that stupid is.. It was a computer. One bought by FOX NEWS

  • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Oh god, anchorman. “Huffington post. It’s made of real bits of Huffington, so you know it works. They’ve done studies on this you know? 80% of the time it’s wrong all the time.”

The HuffPo article mentions the original tweet submitted by a Bill Press radio show producer:

“Oh come on, Fox,”[Peter] Ogburn wrote, sharing a pic of his TV screen on Twitter.

In all likelihood, almost no one would have known about this amusing error if it had happened on another local affiliate because Ogburn wouldn’t have felt the urge to bash their flagship network.

  • EndangeredNJRepub

I actually read huffgarbage just to see what the flip side thinks is news worthy. National Enquirer comes to mind…

  • Sons Thunder

I love that @Twitchy Staff highlighted a tweet from someone complaining that the HuffPo piece had no byline. Has any Twitchy piece ever had a byline?

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Let’s see, HuffNBlow is a “news” website while Twitchy is a aggregater of what is on Twitter.

Apples are mostly red, green and yellow, while oranges are orange. Apples have an edible skin where most don’t consider an orange to have the same. Should I continue?

      • Sons Thunder

@Twitchy Staff picks through Twitter to find tweets that adhere to Michelle Malkin’s agenda. Because @Twitchy Staff is choosing the tweets to highlight and is adding their own comments, Twitchy is more of a letter to the editor/op-ed page than an aggregator.

        • http://carterfliptme.blogspot.com/ Carter FliptMe

Weak response. You have been served by TugboatPhil.

          • trixiewoobeans

He should probably change his name to Sons “Blunder” right about now.

          • Sons Thunder

I guess you were so proud of that one, you felt it deserved posting twice! I quit playing ‘your name is stupid’ games around the time I was 7 years old. I’ve been good about not resorting to that level even when confronted with a name as novel as trixiewoobeans.

Aside from that, my point is valid. Twitchy is not an an impartial aggregator. It has an agenda and it uses others’ tweets and additional commentary to promote that agenda. While there’s nothing wrong with that, it was funny to see them promote a ‘there’s no byline’ tweet because all the pieces here use the same @Twitchy Staff nom de plume.

          • trixiewoobeans

Not proud, just one of those “you earned it” moments.

You people are imbeciles. Getting on board a story everyone reported on and any search shows tons of sites reporting fox. But here is the rub. Twitchy did same thing few days ago. I know I saw it. Tonite though it was scrubbed from the story. Even on google search tonite there was twitchy link that said Fox News but when u clicked the link it went to story with any mention of fox removed. In order to fluff this scum story? This guy is garbage for attacking same thing this site did. They corrected it. Say they corrected it but twitchy scrubbed it pretending you had “it right ” from beginning. And the worst, twitchy saying ” it was much needed moment of levity for most”. Switch to Piers Morgan being ripped to shreds for tweeting “what if that was your boat” every one ripped him saying how dare you make light when people are dead etc on and on. A question provoking wow what if this guy was in my boat omg intense. Interesting thought if this world wide most intense man hunt in years ended in your yard what would you do. But “moment if levity” is Great!!! Don’t deny it I got screen grab from google twitchy Fox News zooey showing same thing. Did twitchy leave it and add correction. No pretend it didnt happen

    • picar99

The scary thing is that there’s a real person behind @WWMD’s insane, dare I say imbecilic, rant. He thinks as he posts. He considers himself quite bright. He’s filled with anger and disdain. He believes he knows what he’s talking about. He posts long, unattributed quotes on propaganda, because, one assumes, he believes only propagandized automatons could disagree with him. He obsessively tracks down the slightest twitchy misstep. Like I say, it’s scary. Zooey Deschanel? This is over Zooey Deschanel?

      • Christian Orpinell

You know, I could do the same thing on the Huffington Post… but I’d rather not waste my precious time / life on reprobate individuals.

      • WWMD

Every one of my points is easily backed up and by backed up does not mean can I find on feeeper republic or red state. I would debate you any time anywhere and I would win because you are the ones who fuel the propaganda. Long unattributed quotes on propaganda ? Anyone with 1/2 or 1/4 of a brain would know where that comes from. I purposely did not attribute the quote because many here act like they are fully familiar with it. On final note I don’t track down the slightesty twitchy misstep because every single story has an extreme glaring lack of truth or fact with it. And I was reading the story about zooey here which is where I commented not tracking down. They scary thing is there are real people who, vote unfortunately behind all of the posters here Yes you are right, I DO THINK AS I WRITE which is not something I would say about any of you. Thinking is not a bad trait the way many of you seem to think. Or not think It would take you 15’seconds to find who that propaganda piece is from and every bit of it applies to you

  • WWMD

PS for the record. FOX LOCAL AFFILIATE IS OWNED BY MURDOCK AND FOX NEWS CORP SO FOX NEWS closed captioned…. Is NOT a lie. It was a computer anyway not a person who made mistake Plus i think that was an interrupted local with fox national because I saw same looking screen just like that. When they interrupt the have to put their local moniker on screen hence the fox4

    • http://truthbeagle.blogspot.com/ TruthBeagle™

So do you know if a FOX local affiliate has people in-house to provide closed captioning? Probably not, with the limited resources of local stations. In your ‘I HATE FOX’ zeal you shut your brain off to all other thought and reasoning. You don’t even care to learn how closed captioning works. I HATE FOX…I HATE FOX is your only thought. HOW CAN I SLAM FOX…HOW CAN I SLAM FOX.

A computer and not people made the closed captioning mistake??? Computers automatically pick up captioning without human input? LOL!!! Many local affiliates OF ALL NETWORKS use outside services to provide captioning. Many even use the same company. Examples of closed captioning companies (some citing television news relationships):

      http://www.captworks.com/

      http://apexcourtreportingny.com/captioning-company/

      http://www.closed-captioning.com/clients-who-have-benefited-from-Riverside-Captioning

      http://captionmax.com/about/acclaim/

      http://www.vitac.com/services/broadcast_captions.asp

But hey, put your brain in park as a typical FOX-Hating progressive and go ask mediamatters what you should post next. You seem to be programmed deeply with the Newshounds ‘we watch so you don’t have to’ limitation on thinking for yourself.

      • WWMD

Um excuse me, but as usual the point just flies right over the head of Dunning-Kruger types. Do facts have 2 sides to them? News? No opinions have 2 sides. Not news. First the point here is this bottom feeder Alex Levy, went off on a tangent that was re-twitched here of complete asshattery. Calling someone a piece of garbage for posting a story like hundreds of other sites from what was in fact Fox News channel. It’s called irony as the pious ness that is exhibited here and elsewhere when they are 100% wrong but think they’re 100% right is the worst kind of pathological “citizen”because the rest of us have to live with the effects.

This was written long ago but perfected by those who want to conquer the world by bleeding it dry while making the masses think its someone else. Fox became the arm of the Republican Party for dissemination of its ideals

“Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. (…) All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. (…) The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses. The broad masses of the people are not made up of diplomats or professors of public jurisprudence nor simply of persons who are able to form reasoned judgment in given cases, but a vacillating crowd of human children who are constantly wavering between one idea and another. (…) The great majority of a nation is so feminine in its character and outlook that its thought and conduct are ruled by sentiment rather than by sober reasoning. This sentiment, however, is not complex, but simple and consistent. It is not highly differentiated, but has only the negative and positive notions of love and hatred, right and wrong, truth and falsehood.

As to the methods to be employed, :
“Propaganda must not investigate the truth objectively and, in so far as it is favourable to the other side, present it according to the theoretical rules of justice; yet it must present only that aspect of the truth which is favourable to its own side. (…) The receptive powers of the masses are very restricted, and their understanding is feeble. On the other hand, they quickly forget. Such being the case, all effective propaganda must be confined to a few bare essentials and those must be expressed as far as possible in stereotyped formulas. These slogans should be persistently repeated until the very last individual has come to grasp the idea that has been put forward. (…) Every change that is made in the subject of a propagandist message must always emphasize the same conclusion. The leading slogan must of course be illustrated in many ways and from several angles, but in the end one must always return to the assertion of the same formula.”

Simple and constantly repeated: Doesn’t matter if they are truthful

        LIBERAL MEDIA
        JUDICIAL ACTIVISM
        WAR ON XMAS
        DEATH PANELS
        OBAMA A SOCIALIST /COMMUNIST/MUSLIM/NAZI
        OBAMA’S KENYAN
        WHERE’S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE
        TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE
OBAMA FLEW HIS DOG IN PRIVATE PLANE
MICHELLE TAKES A VACATION EVERY 20 DAYS
OBAMA GUNNA TAKE OUR GUNS AWAY.

I know how the closed captioning is done and I know this stations closed caption methods. It’s entered into an IPA typewriter and then a computer types it based on phonic sounds entered. This I know because I know a fox anchor and asked.

This is still a fox owned station, so Fox News still applies and twitchy, bless her heart, posted the same words Fox News on its original story. But don’t go looking for it. When this hack job came up they didn’t edit theirs to have a correction like a reputable news source would do. They scrubbed any mention of it off the story. I know I read it. For a few days when you googled it google had in summery lines Fox News but once they edited it picked up the edit and poof never happened, I don’t like my brain in park like those here. You talk about me hating fox. But yet this site is built on hate. Post a tweet, spin it cause we don’t like that person anyway, then let everyone have a field day saying such vile things when in reality it’s usually based on error or a myopic view anyway . Example, here they say the CC MISTAKE was a moment of levity. But a few stories away the wheels set in motion on a Piers Morgan tweet, IMAGINE IF THAT WAS YOUR BOAT. A good observation in a slow moment on the story, but you would have thought he was the third bomber. HOW DARE YOU JOKE ABOUT… But a moment of levity.. Fine! Pointing out a glaring factual error is not hating on fox. No one cares about a CC mistake happens all the time. It’s when people go on a vicious rant with arm full of lies is what I disagree with and feel compelled to comment. Like OBAMA SNUBS BRITISH BY NOT SENDING ANY DELEGATION TO THATCHERS FUNERAL BUT SENDS ONE TO CHAVEZ THE SOCIALIST. google it. Dozens of sites grabbed a fox media command and ran with it. Problem is its a lie no matter to you though as long as the people you hate are the targets.
