Wow. As Twitchy reported, a man started playing “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes outside the evacuated Boston courthouse, where a large crowd of media and spectators had gathered.

It was an incredibly touching and moving display.

But, to Boston Globe reporter (and self-proclaimed star professor at Harvard night school) Billy Baker, it was a mystery and totally inexplicable.

Twitter is at the ready to help the “real journalist” out by providing a Teachable Moment.

Ace of Spades schools the idjit reporter as only he can.

His fellow Twitter users continue the lessons.

Besides being a “star professor,” he also claims to be a Southie guy.

And some homework for the Harvard-man.

Update: He deleted his tweet. Sorry, “professor”: Twitchy is forever.

  • Garth Haycock

Would he rather that they play Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy”?

    • Walt

Probably prefer to hear AC/DC’s Highway to Hell. that seems ot be where this nation is headed in a hand basket.

      • yahneverknow

aside: I think AC/DC’s Highway to Hell by bagpipe would be brilliant. Then again, I’m a bit odd. 😉

    • Jim

      We have a piper down!

  • Michelle

Wow. I might understand his confusion if he was new to Boston, but in his Twitter bio he claims to be a “Southie guy” Southie is Dorchester. Dorchester is mostly Irish. It is not at all uncommon to see someone playing bagpipes somewhere around Boston on any given day. It’s part of the culture there. How could he not know that? Random bagpipe player because it’s Boston. Amazing Grace because people died. Baker is all kinds of stupid and ignorant.

    • mickeyco

Takes double stupid to be a reporter & teach at Harvard.

    • ceemack

That hymn is never as beautiful as when it is play on bagpipes.

Okay, so maybe I’m a wee bit biased…

      • Judy B

Not biased, just right! It’s always beautiful, but most so on pipes.

    • Billie Slash

He claims to be a Southie, but a Dumbie would be more appropriate.

      • Michelle

That’s the part that made me laugh the most – he claims to be a Southie and yet, he was confused by the random appearance of a bagpipe player? If he was raised in Southie, it most certainly was under a rock.

        • Miss Clairee

It was on the Leftie side of Southie! That part of town doesn’t get out much!

    • SteveTirone

Southie is NOT Dorchester. Dorchester is where you moved on up from Southie, after you saved a couple dollars. But they’re still both damn Irish.

  • Gordon

He’s a journalist just asking questions… Think about it, Amazing Grace was written by a White, Christian by the name of John NEWTON.
As we speak David Sirota is speculating that this is an activation code for a Protestant terrorist sleeper cell.

    • coachanthony

Oh, those damn Christians and their Bibles!!! Why, next thing you know a group of them might show up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance or something……

    • TomJB

Don’t look now, but there may be another white christian ready to whip out a bugle and play Taps. *cower*

      • Gordon

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! (Throws self on bugle)

  • Right Wired

Looks like this tweet was deleted?

    • BorderLine Guy

Yep. Typical wuss. Can’t live with it. Even tried to CYA with:

“The bagpiper played a few songs. Haunting and moving. Then he disappeared just as suddenly as he had appeared.”

      • Sons Thunder

I think that’s the absolute worst part. I can’t imagine how he could reach adulthood and been able to ask the significance of Amazing Grace. However, he obviously did. Trying to hide his ignorance and cover with a ‘haunting and moving’…what a phony. Hope his colleagues ridicule him on a daily basis.

  • Lisa Dean

Maybe I’m being dense today, but isn’t Amazing Grace played by bagpipers at funerals for police officers and firemen? And isn’t it played to show respect for the dead?

    • Terry Malpass

Played for many reasons, that being one.

The song is a wonderful testament of the Grace of Our Lord who saves us and renews us through that Grace. Makes the burliest of men weep as children when delivered right.

My favorite Hymn and just beautiful on the pipes.

      • Judy B

        Ditto, well said.

    • Billie Slash

Yes. And not just in Boston.

    • SpinMeNot

Played at the funeral of my best friend, by a military Piper, along with Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. One a recognition of God’s Saving Grace in his life, the other a traditional/historic Black Gospel Spiritual. Other than Taps, that was the only music, at his instructions.

I miss him terribly. I think I am done for the night. Be safe all, God Bless.

      • Lisa Dean

It was sung at my Dad’s funeral as well and then they played Taps and I lost it with no chance of recovery. I’m just numb at the arrogance of Libs today…

      • mickeyco

I’m so sorry for your loss. Praise Him that your friend knew God’s grace.

        • SpinMeNot

Thanks, and it is the sure and certain knowledge that I will see him again that makes his absence bearable.

      • Judy B

Very sorry, good friends are hard to come by…

  • Mamaelk09

Well when he passes on they can take Amazing Grace off the list of songs to play at his funeral.

  • Diana Morrison

Did he have to ask someone, “What’s that tune?”

    • Miss Clairee

Yes. I think he asked a fourth grader who was on a tour with his school class.

  • Tucker Latham

“No explicable reason” – High-octane arrogance AND ignorance.

  • Chris Ar

If he had seen Spock’s funeral, he’d understand.

    • Orlando Cee

He probably wasn’t even born when the movie came out.

      • Billie Slash

Just my point. Some of these Millenials can’t pour piss out of a boot.

        • Clayton Grant

Even when the instructions are on the heel.

    • Jim

Dammit, who put these onions here?

  • Tom Anderson

    Idiots should not tweet. Seriously.

    • mickeyco

But look at all the fun we’d miss.

      • Tom Anderson

Ok, ya got me there. :)

  • grais

    How old is this kid?

  • Steve_J

It doesn’t have to mean anything to Billy Baker. It only has to have meaning to the person playing the pipes.

    • Joe W.

      Thread winner!!!!!

    • Judy B

I guarantee it meant something to most who heard it,

  • Mister A

He just learned the word “explicable” and couldn’t wait to use it in a sentence.

    • riverlifecallie

      ^ Winner!

  • Clayton Grant

Anderson Cooper immediately RT’d to Billy “silly pipebaggers”.

  • Harry A

we get all bent out of shape for the dumbest things on twitter. this is an absolute non story, and we’re gonna take one tweet and start calling a guy an idjit? perhaps it was badly phrased, but you know what he meant and to go on the attack over something so petty, that should be beneath us. all of the well known conservative bloggers taking time out of their day to attack someone with less thank 6500 followers, so unnecessary . just my opinion though.

    • Billie Slash

And we know what opinions are like……

      • Harry A

im not saying that it wasnt kinda obvious why the guy was there, i probably would have worded it differently but he was just trying to say he’s surprised. on a day when CNN, ABC and FOX told us told us that someone was arrested, the AP said an arrest was imminent and CBS said theyre looking for a “WHITE MALE” i think we have other reporters to worry about. i struggle to see how baker is the “idjit” of the day.

  • Zefal

Just tell him DHS secretary janet napolitano sent him and he’ll change his tune and say, “What brilliance!” And then he will lament that the man would’ve had new bagpipes if it wasn’t for the rightwing meanies who exposed the attempted purchase by DHS of bagpipes.

  • John Kerry’s Forehead

    Billy who?

  • Rob Stevely

Looks like he deleted his ignorance.

  • DurkaDurka

All Communist News Network reporters are required to get massive yeast infected [email protected] from their Party Chairman(Producer). This may explain why he didn’t know what planet he was on. He was in a state of rectally blistered hemorrhagic euphoria.

  • conservativemomma

Check out the trailer from the “Amazing Grace” movie from a couple of years ago. Sadly there is probably not 3 public school kid who knows the history of William Wilberforce who spent his life pushing England to abolish the slave trade…and succeeded.

  • megthered

OMG! Does this idiot not remember the funerals of the 9/11 responders. They played Amazing Grace with every one that I saw. My Irish family has not had a funeral without Amazing Grace. What a dolt!

  • 1SkepticalChick

Annnnnd he’s deleted his post…except Twitchy, all together now….is FOREVAHHH!

  • Dick Beninya

    What. A. Schlep.

  • Syttende Mai

Oh he must be playing because Bolshevik Obama lost on gun control yesterday.

  • Syttende Mai

Oh he must be playing because Bolshevik Obama lost on gun control yesterday.

  • andycanuck

And John Kerry says “Sweet Adeline” is his favourite song!

  • Randi Starr

    Fool(Frequently Opposer of Learning)

  • JustLikeAnimals

@billy_baker Ass-clown reporter files inexplicably stupid report for no apparent reason.

  • Jack Deth

Liberal stupidity is a disgusting marvel to behold.

  • maltwit

Baker thinks Grace is a hooker who works on Harrison Ave. I hear she’s good but not “amazing”.

  • Rulz

Just goes to show how intelligent Ivy League faculty can be .

Don’t have all the answers either.

    GOP 2014

  • bo1921

Why is “reporter” billy even there? Now that’s inexplicable. Is he “reporting”? Huh?

  • The Sanity Inspector

  • Osumashi Kinyobe

I am reminded of Kirk’s eulogy for Spock in “The Wrath of Khan”.

Of all the reporters I have known, Billy Baker is the most….

    (choking on emotion)

    … stupid.

  • Ryan D Lauer

    For no explicable reason: cocky.

  • Ricky

Firstly, people from South Boston are not referred to as “Southies.” How do I know? I’m from Southie. Secondly, the type of pipes this bagpiper was playing are Scottish, not Irish. How do I know? I’m Irish. Thirdly, it would be absolutely bizarre to see a bagpiper playing outside a courthouse at any time, for any reason. How do I know? I play the bagpipes. Long story short? Billy Baker’s right, and you’re all morons. Please attempt to educated yourselves before you speak. Just because you’re conservative doesn’t mean you have to be an idiot ALL the time. Just some of the time.
