As Twitchy reported yesterday, the tolerance brigade was on full (and grossly predictable) display after Dr. Ben Carson’s speech at CPAC 2013. One of the contemptible people who called Dr. Carson a “token”?

Freelon is an assistant professor at American University.

Deen Freelon is Assistant Professor of Public Communication. His expertise is in mapping and analyzing online content, behavior, and outcomes, particularly related to political communication. Freelon has published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Communication, New Media & Society, and Information, Communication & Society. He is also the creator of ReCal, an online intercoder reliability application that has been used by thousands of researchers around the world. He formerly served as a technology trainer, web designer, and multimedia consultant at Duke University.

Unbelievable, except it’s totally believable, especially at institutes of alleged higher learning.

After his repugnant tweet was noticed, Mr. Freelon not only tried to make himself the victim, but doubled-down on his jackassery.

Most doesn’t include his own, clearly. Calling someone a “token” is not “healthy disagreement.” It’s repulsive.

Stay classy and tolerant, professor. Twitter users kindly provide some teachable moments to the professor.

Bingo. It is contemptible and it must end. But it won’t end with the professor.

Perhaps the Left can answer this question, posed by Dr. Carson himself during his incredible speech: “When did we reach a point where you have to have a certain philosophy because of the color of your skin?”

According to the professor, that’s the way it shall remain. All “you people” must think alike. If that isn’t racist, what is?

It is also enslavement: You must not dare think outside of the plantation’s group-think.

Like Allen West said, also at CPAC, nothing scares liberals more than black Americans who want a better life and smaller government. Those who are attacking Dr. Carson prove that.

Amen. And the party that sees people as individuals, will support him, always.

Freedom, not enslavement. Who has the problem?

  • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Calls a black man “token” claims he’s not the one with a minority problem.

  • Scott Carroll

Is it any wonder conservatives have trouble attracting minority adherents? Every time a minority has the temerity to challenge lock-step leftist thought they are slapped down in the most vile ways possible.

Maybe if you leftist trolls wouldn’t bash black Republicans there might be more of them, but that’s not really what you want is it?

    • almarquardt

That is largely the point. How is this different than the KKK intimidation against any minority stepping out of line, or slave owners hunting down runaway slaves? The sad difference here is these people have decided to enslave themselves.

      • Neil Leininger

        The KKK were largely Democrats.

        • Orlando Cee

Ultimate irony there. That and the KKK wanted all black people unarmed.

          • 1CatEye

I had a thought about the whole “black enslavement” we see from the left. What if all those freebies (Obamaphones, food stamps, welfare, WIC, EBT, etc.) are just a form of reparations? Knowing full well that real reparations would never pass muster, this is how blacks are repaid for their blind, unreasoning adherence to the dim party, which has done nothing but destroy their families, neighborhoods and hope for a better future?

    • kim

Then it wouldn’t be fun for them. They can’t allow anyone to be conservative. It might start a wave in the community, and then where would they be? Insisting that their prejudices are in fact saving a community that left them behind. Think about it. How hard it would be to convince blacks that hiring standards must be lowered for them to obtain employment when they are already employed and doing well….

  • Jim

So Ben Carson, Herman Cain, Star Parker, Allan West, Tim Scott, Michael Steele, J.C. Watts, Condi Rice and Mia Love are all “tokens”, but one half-black guy represents the entire African-American community. Got it.

    • kim

Yes. and about time you ‘got it’ too. How did you not know this already?

      • SJ’s Dad

        Pretty sure JC’s sarcasm switch was on. That stated, here’s something for you, and anyone else on this thread who’d care to . . . . hypothesize;

Observation: Looking at the speaker line-up for CPAC, and taking into consideration the number of speakers who would fall into one category or another of ethnic minority(statistically speaking taking into consideration the ethnic make-up of the greater US population), it doesn’t take an advanced degree in quantum physics to figure out that the CPAC speaker line-up has these statistical ethnic minorities not only well represented, but POSITIVELY(intentional double-entendre) disproportionate!

Question: At what point do WELL, dare I say statistically OVER-represented minorities STOP being tokens?
        (just askin’, but feel free!-)

        • Larry Welling

Maybe the new blood in the conservative movement is from the ethnic minorities

          • SJ’s Dad

25 of 48 Featured speakers at CPAC2013 were either Women, or ethnic minorities!
(Now I’m no mathemagician, but if I take off my shoes & socks, I’m thinkin’ that’s a MAJORITY!-)
So again, the bottom line question:
(like maybe 47 women/ethnic minorities & Donald Trump?)

    • David

Yep, and members of the “black community” all voted for Obama – many of them multiple times.

  • Chevypowered

    OH MY GOD WE’RE tokens…again…oh the horror…what shall we do…oh I know…not care.

    • Joel Engel

    • Rabid

AMEN..and don’t let the Libs stop you from speaking out!!

    • TJCrane_NCC1701

I gotta say that I feel for you bud. Being a Christian of European heritige, they just hate me. It’s like the Poles and Jews that I know who know the nastiest/funniest jokes about their ethnicity/religion. It’s to be expected, they hate me, nothing new.

It’s gotta be harder for you to experience the racism against you that Sharpton and Jackson marched against with MLK Jr. by…..Sharpton and Jackson and their followers. The Democrats have created a new “ride in the back of the bus” thing, Live in the inner city controlled by liberals and vote liberal or you’re mocked and derided in the LSM and/or social media., the modern day fire hoses and German Shepards. It’s a pity that they’ve, unfortunately, convinced black Americans to man the hoses and hold the leashes.

Sorry to rant. I’m getting tired of racists and racism and their “projecting”.

I’ll give them a one finger salute !

(edit) Sorry, I forgot to mention the fact that this a-hole “teaches” ANYONE ANYTHING is beyond crazy ! Crazy but, unfortunately, not suprising…..

      • Chevypowered

You know I really don’t let it get to me anymore like I used to. As a matter of fact this tactic is so over played the only people who seem to fall for it is the ones spewing it. I think even most libs (though not outwardly) admit it’s getting hard on the ears.

  • Cy

And yet no one will report on this outside of bloggers and Fox News (if Fox even bothers), so the ignorant will keep on believing that Republicans are eeeeeeevil racists and nothing will change. It’s hard not to be pessimistic when so much of the country seems to violently reject common sense.

  • Randi Starr

This type of ideology is the affect of affirmative action.

  • $45875941

We still outnumber these far left loons 2-1 We just need to keep calling them out when they show who the true racists are.

  • Agent_Zeero

Nevermind all that; what hell kind of unedumacated parents spell “Dean” with two “e’s”?

  • grais

Is this guy sure he’s not a token himself?

    • TugboatPhil

No. He thinks his Democrat Masters care about him.

      • grais

        I’ve got news for him….

    • mdtljt

  • SupportMcCarthyism

Let’s see….IF Dr. Carson was a liberal, he would be considered an “independent, free thinker” but if he’s a conservative he can’t think for himself and is just another Uncle Tom? Who’s kidding whom? Unless the New York Trash, Huffington Post, San Francisco Chronicle or their god himself, Obama, tells them what to think and when to think it, they don’t. As the hate-filled liberals have stated time and time again, just questioning Obama is considered racism and bigotry. Nazi Germany has the same mentality against people who question Hitler as well. Coincidence? Not in this lifetime!

  • Michael Rice

Perhaps we do not attempt to fix the problem because it is only the bigoted left that sees us as having one.
I think the real problem is the black s who are afraid to attempt to being conservatives because they don’t wish to put up with the Uncle TOm and Oreo remarks…from the tolerant left.

  • Michael Rice

Perhaps you struck a nerve becaue the supposedly problem party doesn’t like the fact you refer to boack conservs as tokens, Uncle TOms , etc.

  • Larry Dean Barnes

The easy road to fame. From Ackademia to insult comedian. Ack! Ack! coughed up fur ball.

  • TocksNedlog

Poor Dr. Carson! Snatched him right off the liberal plantation, we did.
    “Come back, Toby; come back!”

  • disqus_lLUSGwbabb

It’s like Carson himself said: When did we get to the point where your philosophy in life has to be determined by the color of your skin? Carson never paid attention to race, it’s ignorant liberals like this guy who keep bringing the topic of race up. And these people claim to be “Civil Rights Activists like Dr. King.” Dr. King was all for ignoring race, but these people want to put a spotlight on it.

  • kim

tokens? How sad that the left continually defines it’s own racism and bigotry out of a fear of healthy debate of ideas

  • kim

Damn it!! Not fair. I always wanted to be a ‘token’. Why is it only conservative minorities get to be ‘tokens’? They need to include the rest of us.

  • Rufus_Cornpone

Dfreelon thinks he’s Django insulting Dr, Carson as a token…but it’s the way of the liberal…Read Dr. Carson’s tweets above to learn by his example of what integrity personifies…

  • wzxyzxytz

The White on White Crime rate is 93%
98% of all serial killers in the last 30 years have been White Males

Make that Weapons Grade Stupid and a ridiculously lame “Squirrel!’ attempt for sale!

See wzxyzxytz. Who lives to be abused and is behind in payment for his inflatable Dominatrix!

    • Billie Slash

What does these stats have to do with this thread? Complete non-sequitur.

    • Miss Clairee

……and 13 out of every 14 black people who are murdered……are murdered by other black people. The white race isn’t out to annihilate the black race, but apparently the black race is out to annihilate the black race. Ya betta check yo self before you wreck yo self, bro!

Enough with the racist crap, hon. It’s so 1970’s. Pick another war to wage…….Neeeext!!!!!

  • wzxyzxytz

    The truth hurts .

    • Jack Deth

It must really hurt you to breathe. Let alone think.

    • $45875941

wzxyzxytz , You are a great help to us normal people. Every time you illiterates open your mouths, you proudly display how totally ignorant and brain dead you sheep are. Where do you get your statistics from; the daily commie kos? When they send you your daily talking points and marching orders, do they include the statistics of the day? It must be hell not being able to think for yourself. Bless your heart, little fella!

  • Jack Deth

If Mr..Freelon ever cracked a history book on the way to whatever he is. Do you think he may have noted that the Democrat Klan, Bull Connors, Faubus, Wallace, Byrd and Jim Crow party is the one with the race problem?

    Just curious.

    • Billie Slash

He, like the rest of the revisionist historians, all think Lincoln was a Democrat.

  • Chevypowered

Black Conservatives have been accused time and again for being sellouts or tokens for questioning Obama.

There is nothing worse then any man or woman who refuse to question
those they put into power. Who blindly walk exactly where they are told
believing everything they are told and never holding those in power
accountable for not delivering on their promise.

    Decade after
decade; states, cities, counties, neighborhoods, and blocks that is
owned lock stock and barrel by the democratic party have destroyed the
black family, our hopes and dreams and convinced us that without them
giving us our daily bread we are nothing. Our people have continually
followed those democrats never once questioning their “end game” for our

Now when Blacks start to emerge asking very pointed
questions we are quickly struck down and called tokens or uncle Toms?
What’s wrong Black Democrats you don’t think we have a right to ask
questions like: “Why after so long of faithful votes our lives has
gotten progressively worse?” “Why is it the opposition’s fault when you
are the only ones we allow in our neighborhoods?” “How come you never
show up when we kill each other but only if someone of a different
ethnicity does the crime” “Where are the jobs.” “Why are you telling
Black women they don’t need a husband and telling Black men they don’t
have to take care of their offspring?” “Why is it when I ask for a job
you give me more welfare, telling me this is the best you can do?”

I said this so many times, and it still bears repeating. To those black
Democrats in power. It was never about ending slavery or equality for
all. It was just your chance to crack the whip. At any cost. Even if it
    means destroying your own.

There is an old saying; “A slave
make a terrible master.” Because he/she knows exactly how to keep us in
line. How far you can we can be pushed and how to keep us saying “how
high?!” When you tell us to “jump”

There is nothing worse a Democrat fears the most is a Black man/woman with free will.

    • Rabid

      • Chevypowered

When I see people like this so called professor or some punk like Toure I always wonder how they sleep at night. I then think, after getting their 30 pieces of silver in their checks they probably sleep quite nicely.

        • Rabid

          IMO Toure is an idiot….

          • Orlando Cee

I’m afraid I’m coming down with Toure Syndrome. Every time I see his picture, I have this overwhelming urge to punch him in the face.

          • Chevypowered

            Trust me it’s an epidemic.

  • Cartoon Prophet

perhaps we are just misunderstanding the esteemed professor… we should give him the opportunity to present to us a list of all of the conservative minorities whom he does NOT consider to be mere tokens…

    I can wait…

  • DV S1EOG

Another douche bag racially attacking someone to trivialize their message. Some people just love to keep that political wedge in place. Without it they would become irrelevant and have to find a new purpose.

  • aegean1

I’d say the one with a problem is he who constantly refers to “minorities.” How about just Americans?

  • Jimni27

People like this make me rage. I hope that the money being spent to lure minorities is going towards educating the public that they are being fed leftist propaganda that cons are racist. I really look forward to the day that even a small amount of minorities recognize that they are being played by the left to fit their agenda. Wishful thinking I suppose, lol. Conservatives have consistently reached out to minorities, but they are so blinded by Obama they can’t see it, and he has done nothing but separate whites and blacks further.

  • goteki45

So conservatives have a “minority problem” according to a fluff brained professor, yet any black person who dares to be a conservative is merely dismissed as a “token”. Folks, were are dealing with idiots. The interesting thing is that liberals can’t even give blacks a reason why they should even support the Democratic Party. All they can do is just racially attack those who don’t. lol lol lol

  • Gallatin

“Deen Freelon is Assistant Professor of Public Communication. His

    So basically he’s done nothing.

    • michael s

Its OK to put down professor Freelon ‘s accomplishments though? This just proves how any black persons achievements are attacked. Professor Freelon needn’t call Dr Carson any name token or otherwise.

      • Gallatin

Agreed, you let me know when freelon digs his racist head out of his ass.

  • goteki45

The progressive task masters are surely trying to put their massa’s whip to Dr Ben.Too bad for them it’s not working.

  • Sistervative

What an ignorant, egotistical yet, stereotypical liberal. He alleges GOP has minority problem and the GOP finds a sound minority voice to help spread their principles and then this guy bashes them for it. I’m thinking he just has a problem with the GOP – not their minority issues.

He just sees other professors making news for their ridiculousness so he wanted his 15min of fame.

And one last thing, Dr. Ben Carson is one of the best, if not, the best pediatric neurosurgeons in the world. He’s no one’s token.

  • CR

We do have a serious minority problem. The problem is that smart people are in the minority at colleges, in the media, in politics and in far too many states (California, anyone). That is the ONLY minority problem we have right now…

  • DrSamHerman

“Assistant Professor of Public Communication”? Guess there are no truth in advertising regulations that apply in academia. In any other world, he would be labeled as a “bull**** artist”.

  • GoSellCrazySomeplaceElse

The democratic party treat minorities like sheep to slaughter. Keep them poor and uneducated, with no chance for mobility. Pat them on the head and tell them you care, because you know they’re going nowhere. All of you liberals in favor of Obamacare, I’m sorry to tell you, but it won’t cure stupid.

  • AZWarrior

Racists such as Freelon should be removed from contact with the young. What next, a KKK professor?

  • wzxyzxytz

Conservatives do not understand the concept of racist… its why they are

    • $38343398

Strained your brain for that profundity did ya? Problem is, it has no basic in fact.

    • Patrick Dennehy

@wzxyzxytz:disqus does not understand sentence structure and independant thought; therefore, will continue to be ignorant.

  • Maxx

OK folks, let’s try to wrap our heads around the hypocritical mind of a liberal.

In this case, yet another black “professor” bemoans this perceived “problem” the right has with minorities and yet when blacks actually see the appeal of conservatism, these “scholars” are annoyed and the Pavlovian insults follow.

So what is it Deen….do you want conservatives to embrace Blacks or not? It seems illogical to muse about the right’s “problems with minorities” and yet when minorities actually are drawn to the party, your pretentious arrogance and disappointment reveals itself.

Let’s wrap it up with some crib notes. The only thing that annoys liberals more than the perceived ineffectual relationship between minorities and conservatives is when that relationship shows signs of healing.

Case in point: @dfreelon “I don’t think I realized Ben Carson was conservative until last month. Shame.”

    • arrow2010

Of course not. He wants to exterminate all conservatives.

  • Alabama Mike

Actually, it’s not the conservatives who have a minority problem, it’s the minorities who have a liberal problem. “Sit down and STAY down, we’ll take care of you since you’re incapable of doing so”, say the libs. Wonder why minorities are ok with being told crap like that?

  • jdubya_az

“Deen Freelon is Assistant Professor of Public Communication”
    Well, well, well…
Another completely worthless degree held by a person whose only way of perpetuating his existance is to stay permanently at a university justifying his existance as…an assistant professor. He obviously is not a real professor, tenured and all. Maybe this is how assistant professors get tenured. Maybe he will screem racism if he does not get tenured. Maybe he has no where else to goe and will use his skin color to address his lousy choice in pursuing some stupid, worthless degree (WTF is “Public Communications” anyways?? Is this similar to trans-gendered lesbian ethnic studies?).
Here is some advice for all of the Gen-X’ers: Find schools that have these worthless “studies” and let them know you will not send your kids there. Also, make sure our tax-dollars are not going to these institutions and paying the salary of the racist douche-tard.

  • RightThinking1

Nice video (by Thomas Sowell) over at Daily Caller, explaining why the minimum wage has led to higher unemployment, especially among black youth. If you’ve never heard Sowell speak, it is worth a listen. I’d like to see Sowell lecture this little nobody Deen Freelon.

A little background on Dr. Sowell:

Sowell was born in North Carolina, but grew up in Harlem, New York. He dropped out of high school, and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He received a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University in 1958 and a master’s degree from Columbia University in 1959. In 1968, he earned his Doctorate in Economics from the University of Chicago.

Deen Freelon probably would not like Dr. Sowell, because, well…, you know…, he’s a ‘token’. I would really, REALLY like to hear Freelon say that to Sowell.

  • Randi Starr

Deen’s just pissed because he’s not a real educated doctor…..Deen got him one of those degrees my dad said Hell No I Won’t Help Pay For!

  • gracepmc

Well as an Assistant Professor of Public Communication at American University one can assume he knows that these remarks about Dr. Carlson as a “go to black token” will follow him throughout his career. Duke and American University must be so proud to have this association.

  • Paul Citro

Assistant Professor of Public Communication at American University he’s sure to be a TOKEN

  • The First Lady ; D

@dfreelon is probubly good buddies with @marclamonthill !

  • $27789750

Maybe ‘minorities’ should stop proclaiming that the GOP has a problem with them and realize they have a problem with themselves. Instead of blindly accepting the meme that the Party is against them they should turn off the race faucet and turn on the sensible solutions tap. The ‘poor me’ plan of action is monumentally self defeating. Some minorities, like Carson, have figured this out.

  • JR48

Dr Carson doesn’t need defending from this racist irrelevant douche.

  • Stacey Holmdahl

My middle-school nephew tracks his Klout points, what’s Deen Freelon’s excuse?

  • Guest

Ben Carson sees himself as these people refuse to see him and themselves as simply human.
They have allowed a Political Party the Democratic Party to define their very existence they have allowed a party to use them and define their worth on this earth.
I feel such pity for these people for they are still lost in a bygone era and will probably live out the rest of their life in that world.

  • Donna W

I love how he refers to Conservs as “lunatic fringe” and pulls the race card, then accuses the Right of “insulting” him. Heh.
    Typical hyposcrisy.

  • alfhucker69

Funny how the response to a supposedly racist tweet using “token” is to spew racist filth in defense. Dr. Freelon’s Twitter feed and email inbox have been deluged threats and racist taunts and one some sites where this story has filtered, words like “ghetto hood,” “diluted blood africans,” and “plantation” are thrown about… which kind of proves Dr. Freelon’s point. Sad that most of you here are apparently too ignorant to understand that.
