Wait, what?

That’s right. Secretary of Dunce John Kerry is releasing $250 million in aid to Egypt. Morsi’s power grab? Totally a cause for aid.

More from the New York Times:

The statement issued by Mr. Kerry noted that he and Mr. Morsi had discussed the need to ensure the fairness of Egypt’s coming elections, but it did not mention any specific political commitments the Egyptian president had made to receive the aid.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for April. Some opposition groups have said they will boycott the vote because of what they see as an effort by Mr. Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood movement to dominate Egyptian politics.

American officials say that Mr. Kerry asserted that moving ahead with difficult economic changes in Egypt would require a degree of political consensus and was implicitly a promise of some political change.

No commitments? But, hey, he got promises and stuff. And we all know that power-grabbing dictators always keep their word!

Promises, you guys! Americans are questioning something else as well: What about Sequesterpocalygeddon?

Sadly, it is all too believable and not really surprising. Elections, they have consequences.

Speaking of Dearborn, has there ever been a gay pride parade held there?

If the champions of gay rights in America cannot bring themselves to bring their campaign to the Middle East – where homosexuals truly are oppressed, if not murdered officially – could they not at least summon some courage and hold a gay pride parade in Dearborn?

        • sqeptiq

Why don’t you organize one if you support gay pride so much?

          • $23629333

If I were to organize anything for you and your friends, it would be a tour of the Middle East countries where – as I said above – “homosexuals truly are oppressed.” The thought of you and your friends in Tahrir Square demanding tolerance for homosexuals and acceptance of their relationships is quite delightful.

            sqe,

I do not see that While wished death on anyone. He was, in a hyperbolic manner, making the point that homosexuals whine incessantly, (and tiresomely, I might add) about their perceived ‘oppression’. While merely suggests that a trip to, oh…, Iran, might provide an object lesson in the nature of true ‘oppression’.

          • sqeptiq

I’ll merely suggest that playing in traffic might lead to you getting squashed and that jumping in a volcano might lead to WhileRomeBurns getting, well, burnt. Equally enlightening!

Well, that won’t happen, you see, because I do not engage in bad behavior.

          • sqeptiq

Well, whenever you or WhileRomeBurns complain about an Obama administration or Democratic policy in future, I’ll be sure to just say, “Awww, move to North Korea; then you’ll really have something to whine about.”

Also, the conservatives who deny bad behavior are the biggest freaks of all, but that’s another topic.

The $250 million is beer and pretzel money till Egypt get the 4.8 Billion IMF loan. This doesn’t count the 1.5 billion Obama gave Muslim brotherhood last year.
    ———-

This aid package is the first step towards Morsi’s ultimate goal: closing a $4.8 billion loan package from the International Monetary Fund. Egypt is desperately trying to get the loan approved to deal with an ever growing budget deficit, but talks have stalled over the last year. The negotiations will resume this month when the IMF team returns to Egypt to try and get this deal done. “The United States can and wants to do more,” Kerry said in a statement. “Reaching an agreement with the IMF will require further effort on the part of the Egyptian government and broad support for reform by all Egyptians. When Egypt takes the difficult steps to strengthen its economy and build political unity and justice, we will work with our Congress at home on additional support.”

yet its OK to give billions to house Israelis.

      • https://twitter.com/tweetyuo Tangchung

        Kerry gave Billions Israelis also?

      • John (it true me am)

You mean the country with valuable economic exports including some of the world’s best tech development that has a stable government without ties to radical extremists hell bent on destroying the entire western world whose people are under constant threat of rocket fire for simply existing while being constantly derided in the international media as war criminals despite the fact they have done literally nothing but defend themselves and their people while also dealing with anti-semetic idiots in the U.N. and elsewhere that claim they aren’t even a real country despite the fact that they have been recognized as such since their formation over half a century ago while these same people are more than happy to give diplomatic and ambassadorial privleiges to a country that actually doesn’t exist and never has that is in fact a loose assortment of disparate nomadic tribes that happened to have at one point set foot in the general vicinity of Israel?

You know. As opposed to Egypt, which is a cluster**** of radicalism and rebellion that until recently was only kept in the barest of checks by a military strongman, whose people roundly despise us for no reason other than some guy in Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia told them to.

So even if we did magically give billions to Israel(which we didn’t), you know, I do in fact find it quite a bit better. “OK” in your words. While I am in general against most international aid without repayment(you know how many loans we have forgiven to countries that could have easily paid us back?), if you want to make this an either-or game between Israel and Egypt, Egypt loses every damn time.

      • J. Cox

Let us know when Israel starts crashing planes into American skyscrapers,or sends rockets into schools,or pays families $1million US dollars for letting their children blow themselves and as many civilians up as possible. Can you really be this dense? You hate Jews or something? You want to see them pushed into the sea?Liberal spouting love for terror states and contempt for a real ally…how predictable.

So does this mean Obama cares more about Egypts’ poor than our own? Does he want the babies here to starve and old people to die? Oh, how mean spirited of him.

Not to mention the four F-16s (plus twelve more ~plus~ two hundred Abrams tanks to come) that we already gifted to them.

    Cost of an F-16: 14.6-18.8 million EACH = $292,000,000-376,000,000
Cost of an Abrams tank: 4.3 million EACH = $860,000,000

Total amount gifted to one dictator this year: $1,402,000,000-1,486,000,000

No foreign aid to Egypt. No foreign aid to any nation.

  • gracepmc

That’s ok. State will probably make up the shortfall from Kerry’s largesse by cutting back on embassy security in the ME and especially in Egypt, where the regime is so friendly and will certainly protect the US Embassy should it be attacked.

  • sqeptiq

Under the Camp David Accords, the US is obliged to provide aid to Israel and Egypt each and every year. Nothing new about that.

    • Joe W.

I do not believe that this Egyptian government has anything to do with the Camp David Accords, Scooter. And if they did, the US should back out of the accords, since the US will NOT be defending Israel anytime soon, and THAT was in those accords as well.

      • sqeptiq

        • Joe W.

Mubarek was ousted via a revolution, thus invalidating Egypt’s existing government. That makes ALL treaties null and void, pal. Besides, We can do whatever in the hell we want to do. Just ask Barky.

          • sqeptiq

You need to get the US government to make that determination. And neither Ds nor Rs will.

I love how we always give “aid” to countries that hate and despise us and Israel. Might as well hand them some nukes while we are at it. We give billions and billions to these terrorist run countries and the only thing we get in return is our own planes and tanks shooting back at us. Its like handing Charles Manson a gun and expecting him not to shoot you. Our stupidity will be our down fall. Just like the Romans, we are falling apart from within.
