Heh. Brit Hume is not alone. That seems to be the consensus, after watching Hagel’s Secretary of Defense hearing.

https://twitter.com/NathanWurtzel/statuses/297024408550244352

And, to be fair, Hagel is not alone, either.

Double zing!

  • BorderLine Guy

I was wondering (still am to a certain extent) why Kerry basically gets a free pass in his nomination, but Hagel is so much worse. I would think the Hagel alternative will be less appealing to conservatives than Hagel is. BUT, if the Hagel issue is that he’s a dope, then the Senators should break their stupid code and tell people that instead of having bloggers/tweeters handle it.

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

I couldn’t believe that Kerry commented on the protestor that started shouting at his hearing. That opened the door for at least one Republican to question the war crimes allegations he made in the 70s and his illegal negotiations with the North Vietnamese in Paris.

The Senate is a sack of smashed up jellyfish.

      • http://resministries.org/ Arthur E Jackson

They all need to be removed from office, they are all full of horse radish. The only care about themselves, and getting re elected.

        • JINNASH

I agree. What I want to know is who are the people voting for this spineless crowd.

    • http://resministries.org/ Arthur E Jackson

Yes he is a bumbling idiot.Don’t ya think he would fit in nicely with the rest of the crew? Hey call me later.

    • aPLWBinAK

Very disappointed myself on that, and I may be grasping at straws here…..but wondered if they knew there was somebody even worse (if that’s possible) waiting in the wings to be put up for consideration next, if Lurch didn’t get in.

  • http://hrh40.wordpress.com hrh40

Sorry, neither is Brit Hume. His on-air complete meltdown and unprofessional behavior the night Gingrich won the SC GOP primary has taken him off my list of professional, unbiased commentators. He has become a DC elitist. Sad, really. Cuz, I don’t think he was when he was on ABC.

But, ironically, Fox News turns fair reporters into GOP Establishment hacks at a frighteningly fast pace. Which is why Palin is gone; she resisted and would not play the Roger Ailes-led/Bush Dynasty-backed/Saudi-financed game …

    • Joe W.

      Hogwash…

      • http://hrh40.wordpress.com hrh40

Care to substantiate? Or are you a lifelong Republican who eats up all the hogwash that Fox puts out on behalf of the Bush Wing of the GOP?

Fox Business is more evenhanded than Fox News, but that is available to even fewer people, more’s the pity …

Just for kicks, I’ll give you examples:

        1. The slavish devotion to Romney throughout the primaries.
        2. The immediate propping up of Rubio the minute Romney lost.
        3. The love for Christie.
        4. All of the former Bush admin folks who now spout off on Fox nearly every hour of the day.
        5. The sycophancy over Powell and Rice, because they worked for the Bushes.

        Your turn …

        • Joe W.

The SAUDIS???? Your blather does not dignify nor merit engaging with you, pal. Troll someone else….

Uninformed commenter. Must be either an Obama voter.

You seem rather preoccupied with Fox. Why not just abstain from viewing their programming?

          • http://hrh40.wordpress.com hrh40

            I do abstain.

But this post was about Brit Hume, who is on Fox. Hence my comment about Hume’s downfall and the network that induced it.

            IMO.

I am no fan of Fox and their leftward shift, but that statement seems a tad unfair. Hume is an exceptionally bright man who may have taken a position you did not like, but that she not negate his excellent record of no-nonsense punditry. I haven’t had cable for a while, but still watch him in clip format. He seems plenty bright to me.

      • http://hrh40.wordpress.com hrh40

        Yes, he is.

Which is all the more shame that he has sold his brightness to the Republican ruling class, which runs Fox News.

      • http://hrh40.wordpress.com hrh40

I’m just a bit confused by your statements. I’m not at all satisfied with Fox News the last several years, but I still go to them before any other cable or network outlet.

You had Hume classified as an “unbiased commentator.” Commentators by their very nature are usually biased. They are giving opinion on news, not reporting it. Who remains on your list?

You mentioned Fox News turning fair reporters into GOP hacks, I have yet to see that from their news reporters, but don’t watch as much as before. But then you mentioned Palin, who was not there as a reporter, but as a commentator.

I’m not positive, but I think her parting of the ways there had more to do with her announcing that she wouldn’t run for President on the Mark Levin radio show. That put a burr under Roger Ailes’ saddle and soured their relationship. But that’s only my opinion.

As to the news reporters at Fox, I’d put them up against anyone on any other network. Specifically I refer to Jennifer Griffin, Catherine Herridge, Eric Shawn, Mike Emanuel, Steve Harrigan, Rick Leventhal. There are others, but these folks are as good in the field as anyone.

      • http://hrh40.wordpress.com hrh40

I agree about the news reporters you mentioned. Absolutely.

But the commentators on Fox mostly run with the Republican Messaging Machine on who to push … and who to squash. And most of the hosts do as well.

I had hope when they parted ways with Rove.

But now he’s back. So forget about it.

Hume would run a distant fifth place to the scum that passes for “media” on all of the alphabet networks.

Obama wants yes-men and Hagel would be perfect.

As we look at events unfolding around the world, and especially the Mid East, does anyone else wish we had Allen West as SecDef?…….it’s a fantasy as long as Oblamer is office I know….but we can wish can’t we?

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Not only at Defense, but I’d take him at State, and naturally the Oval Office too!

      • aPLWBinAK

Well, there is an empty chair in the Oval Office…

    • $24698634

This is why we think you are deranged. Allen West was my congressman and he did absolutely nothing for our district. It was clear early on that his only purpose was to advance his personal ambitions. But with all that talk about communists in Congress and wanting certain politicians to leave the country, that didn’t sit well even in Republican Florida. West lost to a virtual unknown even though he had a huge campaign war chest. So, can you tell me one accomplishment that Allen West can point to in his 2 year term that would qualify him for higher office?

  • http://twitter.com/who_me_too RadicalRebelWhoMeToo

Pray tell Brit, who do you consider “bright” in Washington…you?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002109532283 Jillane Kent

Did you watch the hearings or read the transcript and still not agree with his characterization?

      • KansasGirl

I absolutely agree with Brit’s commentary.
He had no choice, the hearing was a disaster.
My problem is, Brit has said things that sounds like he’s been in Washington too long.
I guess I just didn’t express myself well. Sorry about that.

  • dennymack

I have few memories of Chuckhagel in the Senate, but when I heard he was nominated I assumed be was a bit off. The last thing you are ever, ever going to see is Obama or the DNC shoving an articulate, intelligent, politically competent Republican into the spotlight.

I expect Obama will find another Chuckhagel to nominate for something. Think of all the goofiest, not-ready for prime time GOP’ers, and among them you will find our next Republican appointee.

He will be “principled” in that he voted against his party. That will also mean that there are some positive old press clippings about him. Remember when McCain was an open minded, principled pragmatist? (Before the 2008 general election.)

    • 1SkepticalChick

Having rejected his GOP nominee O will feel free to put up a Dem. Then claim he tried to be fair and balanced but the 1st guy he wanted wasn’t satisfactory to the GOP.

      • beebop1952

I wouldn’t let Hagel paper train my new puppy.

        • 1SkepticalChick

          Exactly!

  • Guest

Hume is too polite to mention that Obama is not himself very bright
and is therefore intimidated by those who are.
The quality which Obama values above all else, in a lackey,
is unquestioning obedience, not character or ethics and certainly NOT charisma.

  • BeeKaaay

Obama is not that bright either, but like that matters……

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1462246106 Bob James

I agree with Tony Phyrillas. In the Obama administration incompetence is the new normal.
