Sigh. This is really getting old. Talk about the boy who cried dog whistle! The old “code words” rears its head again: Get ready for more entries in the Handbook of Racial Code Words. “Aloof” isn’t the end of it, evidently.

We reported earlier that Colin Powell blasted “birthers” on “Meet the Press” this morning, because, you know, that’s the most pressing issue of our time. Andrea Mitchell doubled down and implied that the “birther movement” was GOP policy. Powell continued the inanity.

Heh. And he let it fly on this morning. Cue the ominous music: The GOP has a “dark vein of intolerance.”

Twitter users immediately react to this utter nonsense.

Yes, dark vein? How racist, Mr. Powell. But, wait. There’s more.

Sarah Palin already epically smacked down that charge of racism. And now Twitter users are smacking down Powell. They are calling him out for his pitiful race card playing, and for continuing to insist that he is a Republican, even after supporting Barack Obama for president. Both times.

Yep. Twitchy has documented many such instances of leftist racism and intolerance. From Powell? Crickets.

https://twitter.com/arthur23/status/290469717775360000

https://twitter.com/EYEcChavis/status/290510442479120385

Bingo.

That must be some of that there “subtle” racism or something. Like peanut butter sammiches.

And this Twitter users sums it all up.

But, you know, it’s far easier to just trot out the race card, even if that means disgracefully diminishing actual acts of racism. Here’s a lesson for you, Mr. Powell: If everything in the entire world, including the word “lazy” is racist, then nothing is.

A second tip: Get out of your Beltway Bubble once in a while and talk to some people.

Update:

Heh.

Twitter users kindly weigh in with some helpful #DemocratCodeWords.

Jay Carney and Andrew Cuomo have said ‘shuck and jive.’ Why didn’t Colin Powell mention either?

    • Catchance

Because it took everyone’s focus off Benghazi and onto Sarah’s “racism”.

Chris Matthews also has used the term, not that I expect Powell to take notice or care.

Remember, it’s only wrong when we conservatives say anything.

    • amaze830

Apparently, according to Colon Powell, if you are a Democrate and you use the “shuck and jive” phrase, you are not racist and if you are a Republican and you use this same phrase, you are a racist. Powell is full of it.

    • Jazzee

mr powell needs to shut up, change to liberal and stop saying he is a conservative no one cares you are irrelevant sir just like obama no one listens no one cares he just needs to be told he lives in the USA and we have the rule of law and a Constitution that he needs to stop spitting on every single day
      God help the USA

  • drnash

I have seen the horrible things that the Black Dems have said to the Black Republicans!! So don’t think there is no “sort of looking down on minorities” on the dem side! Powell should know better than to pull the race card! That kind of behavior just stirs the pot of hate in this country!

  • $23629333

Hold on, I thought we’re told that we are NOT supposed to listen to racists? Colin Powell demonstrated in 2008 that he was a racist, and underlined that fact last fall. Why is anyone paying him any attention. As Jed Clampett would say, “Pitiful.”

  • http://twitter.com/AlanSchechterly Alan Schechterly

I guess that makes Colin Powell a racist. Shame, I always hoped he’d run for president, now, no way.

    • TundraThunder

It makes me think Powell was a liberal plant in the past so he could say these things now and have credibility with the LSM.

    • Catchance

For the liberals, the epithet “racist” ONLY applies to Republicans.

    • http://twitter.com/Sincerly_oo Sincerely —

I used to like Colin Powell until I read his autobiography. I forced myself to read the whole thing, it was one of the most painful things I’ve ever read.

He came off as smug, pretentious, and seemed perpetually offended that Bush didn’t do it his way.

It’s sad, but after that, hearing this doesn’t surprise me at all.

  • Grumpa Grumpus

That “dark vein” Colon’s (sic) talking about is not a vein at all— it’s an artery filled with cogealed and rotting blood that’s blocked the flow to his brainpan.

Ol’Colon(sic) has outted himself as both a racist (by his own words, voted for Prez!Stinky 1st term solely b/c he was black) and a Progressive (@ Ft Hood terrorist attack jumped on bandwagon that diversity more important than sanity).

    So, why does he bother?

  • maplebob23

What racism, Michael S.? Specifically, give me something to go on other than imaginary “code words” that Chris Matthews has also used? Did you lament that no one stood up to all the racists who criticized Bush? How about Tim Scott? Nikki Hayley? Do you support Biden, Reid, Maxine Waters, or Obama himself despite making “racially charged” proclamations?

      • michael s

Never supported Biden’s chains comment and his and Reid’s similar racist comments on then Sen Obama. I defend Sen Scott all the time, he’s not a token. Colin Powell is struggling to stay relevant. Nobody cares about poor Colin anymore so he has to play the card. By the way he is no more of a republican than Nancy Pelosi.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

Hey, remember when Colin Powell didn’t mind sitting down and working with those racist GOP’s. Or when he didn’t mind having pictures taken with those same racist GOP’s and he always had a smile on his face. Gen. Colin Powell, I respect you for your distinguished military service but that’s about it now.

  • Steve_J

Powell shoudl get down on his knees and thank God every night that he had Norman Schwarzkoph in charge of Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

    • Grumpa Grumpus

Yes. From what I have heard Colon’s a political climber who was basically “failed upwards” past The Peter Principle Limit to keep the number of minorities correct.

This starts to make sense if you understand that Congress has to sign off on promotions above a certain level (to keep explanations simple by writing in general terms…).

A conservative minority has almost no chance b/c for the last generation or so our congress (both houses) has been run by the Progressives.

  • OldmanRick

The Colin Powell of yesteryear is no more. He has begun to drink the marxist Kool Aid of the left. There is no better way to divide a country than using race – Alinsky 101 primer.

  • Stone Bryson

I’m surprised at this point they haven’t claimed, “RINO” is racist code language.

In other news, in a recent Twitter exchange I had with someone (based on a post here at Twitchy) I noted that while ‘aloof’ was a good word to describe the POTUS, ‘lazy’ would be more accurate. Then I joked with her about how that word is probably considered racist code as well. Oops… I just can’t keep them straight.

  • Samh09

As GOP’ers, we should seriously consider getting a Colin cleansing. Sheesh!

    • David Atherton

The GOP has had a colinectomy! LOL Never mind a cleaning, just remove it.

  • David Atherton

This from a General, Former member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State, definitely a victim of our “dark vein of intolerance”. The fact that the Democrats nominated a HALF black man doesn’t mean republicans are racists. We had a much more qualified black man in the primaries, but he was attacked on every front. Do you think the race card would be thrown out so freely if Herman Cain was President?

    • michael s

      YES IT WOULD.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002109532283 Jillane Kent

Caps lock. Wow, quite edgy and impassioned. Can you honestly say that you feel a black conservative would be treated so gently or shielded with Alinsky style tactics? By chance, have you ever heard of Tim Scott? Allen West? Mia Love? Arthur Davis?

        • michael s

The Pres Cain supporters would be the ones throwing out the race card freely as you do for all black conservatives. Fine with me. As you did on whether rg3 might be a Republican .

        • michael s

The Pres Cain supporters would be the ones throwing out the race card freely as you do for all black conservatives. Fine with me. As you did on whether rg3 might be a Republican .

      • Grumpa Grumpus

You say that with such conviction!

We have real-world data to answer this question with!

So, though you say it would be, we actually see that when it comes to offices in other branches of government, such as senators, representatives, secretaries (such as State or Interior), governors, or mayors we learn from sad experience that it is otherwise.

That indicates that you quite simply either:
        (1) don’t know what you are talking about—
        or
        (2) are lying…
        or
        (3) answers 1 and 2.

    • http://granitegrok.com/author/mike Mike Rogers

Now THAT, would be shock and awe that even an erstwhile general might grasp!
The reason that Herman was taken down so viciously was that the left truly feared him, and he didn’t fear them.

What? Does this fit any sense common to discourse? First, if one quotes, might we expect an actual quote rather than a stupid and erroneous surmising? Second, what does David Gregory have to do with the price of eggs in China? Third, gormless – gremmed? What stuffing are you using?

  • Gothguy

Gen. Powell, as a fellow veteran and a Republican, you are an embarrassment to both. I used to hold you in high esteem, but no longer. Spewing forth such nonsense, you have proven that you are nothing but a refined and articulate Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton type of race baiter.

DID know this. My condolences to the Bee Gees for making a song called Jive Talking. Sorry to say you’re a bunch of racists. i guess Dancing with the stars will have to remove the jive dance fro their show and all those years I spent on the farm as a kid shuckin corn and now you’re telling me I was shuckin minorities. I gotta say with a little bit of butter they sure tasted great.

  • LightSabre

Lane (above) tweeted it best: Powell is a “lib who used Bush to get ahead.” And being a Republican to get ahead. Powell, now that he is retired and his career is out of the way, has revealed his true self: he, like at least 95% of all black Americans (yes, the same percentage that voted for Obama),is a white-hating, revenge-filled racist, pure and simple. If you are white, black Americans do not like you, would love to see ill befall you, and would even vote for Louis Faraquan if he ran for office. And Colin Powell is no different.

  • DolCane

No! Much better to tech people of Liberty so they won’t be fooled again! That will give much heartburn and suffering to the self-aggrandizing Progressives!

For example: Imagine and visualize, in your mind’s-eye Prez!Dingleberry’s feelings to being ignored or lampooned by the majority of the citizens… Imaging Reid, Palosi, Grahamnasty and McCain’s response to being so irrelevant that people — newspapers, television & radio, and the general public ignore their every utterance and outburst…

      See what I mean?

  • Man of Little Means

This clown is trying to set himself up for a run at the WH. Now he knows a black man can get elected by giving out freebies and as Obama proved “No experience necessary. Always funny how asses bite the hand that feed them.

Just to shine a light on something that most here don’t seem to know: republicans can actually vote for democrats now and then. It’s called independent thinking. For instance, I know several Republicans who voted for Barack Obama based mostly on the fact that a Romney presidency would likely have been disastrous to the Supreme Court. Some republicans actually like women, opposed the Citizens United ruling, favor marriage equality, have nuanced notions about the 2nd amendment. It’s nice to believe that things in reality are just black and white, but it isn’t so. It just isn’t.

    Isn’t that a good thing?

    • Kat

Not stereotyping those who don’t agree with Obama’s pro-infanticide beliefs and policy as policy as “hating women” would also be a measure of good faith. It’s nice to know that unless you voted Barack Obama that you are a misogynist. I am SO glad I am educated on this point.

Pretty sick and tired of being told over and over again that I have to fall completely in line with the Lena Dunham mode of thinking or turn in my vagina. You, sir, DO not speak for me and you do not have a monopoly on what respecting women actually means. It might mean respecting those who have enough of a independent mind to recognize that a singular belief structure does not give you the authority to say that only you are the one who supports ALL women.

Sounds like you missed my point, but I’m glad I could help! I would never presume to speak for anyone. Again: independent thinking.

You appear to be falling in line just fine here, and it’s tough to find local examples of your being told “over and over again” anything of the sort. You’re wildly presumptuous about my position, BTW. I claim no authority; I’m just a commenter with an observation. That mine differs from yours and your peers isn’t something that you should view as a threat or in any way hostile. It’s just variety.

And there’s so much in your reply that isn’t even germane to my comment, so I’ll assume it’s coming from some another place. Just keep your straw men off my front porch, ya hear? I don’t have time to be a character in your imagination.

Yeah, Colin Powell made it to the rank of General in a mostly conservative institution, the US Army…meanwhile the white lefties we’re spitting on the troops returning home from Vietnam. A white republican nominates him for chairman of the joint chiefs. I know it’s only January but I hereby nominate Colin Powell as this year’s nominee for the Jackie Chan ingrate award

  • R0nin

I don’t understand why some people seem to think that Powell “changed” and is _now_ a RINO. His ideology has always been liberal, he’s never been a strong conservative. He happened to be in the right place at the right time for his career and public image to benefit from _just_doing_his_job_, and then was given a place in non-conservative, big-government Bush’s administration. None of that made him a Conservative, and those paying careful attention to his words would never have imagined that he was one.

At this point, he needs to just come clean and admit that he’s been a Democrat in Republican clothing all along.

  • Gary

Powell is an embarrassment as a GOP but excels as a liberal attack machine. Unfortunately he has become just a chuckle.

Powell spouted Liberal talking points like a real pro. Voter ID = voter suppression. Enforcing border security = racism. He claims the party moved to the far right yet we nominated McCain and Romney in the last 2 cycles. Not exactly fire breathing Conservatives.

I loathe Powell and I wish some prominent Republicans would start calling him out for what he is. He is a liberal who pretends to be Republican in order to undermine the Conservative cause. Bush in particular should disown them. Of course that won’t happen which is why we need a new Conservative Party.

Remember, this administration doesn’t seem to be too keen on military success….

BTW, all this race garbage is getting annoying. Most Americans aren’t even anywhere close to being racist.

Good grief. You can’t even call Powell a RINO with a straight face at this point. He is clearly a Daily Kos/Huffy Puffy Post progressive. The funny part will come when he runs as a Democrat in 2016 and his new friends show him first hand how they killed the first two civil rights bills that eventually had to be forced through in 1964 by ‘racist’ Republicans.

    Let me see here.
A storied general, who has sworn to uphold and defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, chooses to endorse a treasonous usurper who trashes the constitution, TWICE.
He admits that he did it for racial reasons, and then calls the GOP intolerant????
Dear Democrat Politician, Colin Powell: You, sir, are a racist, and are in breach of your oath. You are a disgrace!

Amazing that a man that millions of conservatives respected and admired now makes a blanket accusation like this? Are there racist conservatives? Sure, just like there a racist Democrats, Libertarians, and Independents. To label an entire party is to minimize his own credibility, which before this, was exceptional. Now, he has lowered himself to the level of a politician-not a hero. Shame.

You have to parse everything you say because Dems will find something racist about it.

Colin powell is what most blacks are these days–RACISTS!! And he sure as he##, IS NOT a Republican!!

  • philomena

Mr. Powell, you have no standing. You voted for a man because his skin is the same color as yours, period. No amount of shucking and jiving will make that fact change. Have the courage of your convictions and join the democrat party. They can always use help in destroying this constitutional republic.

No matter what I type here – it will be labeled as racist. — This is the enlightened left’s gift to American discourse.

Okay, let’s take a look at this guy. His first name sounds like the end of the digestive tract. He’s a black man who was elevated by white presidents going back to Reagan, who plucked him out of nothing into power. No blacks elevated Powell – those were the white guys. Yet, he oozes white hatred and voted for Obama because Obama was black. So…. he’s a pathetic, racist human being. He’s a has been, who will never be anything more than a political hack for the left now. He can continue to register as a republican, but nobody considers him a republican. His future is race baiting, and doing AS HE IS TOLD by a black president and a liberal white Washington. What a sap for slavery this guy is.
