            The problem with expecting the GOP to do something about this is that political parties have almost no influence over the political complexion of a region. The reality is quite the opposite. Many Republicans in NY (Bloomberg anyone?) would be to the left of most Democrats here in Arizona.

            Why? Because the ideas that define the political climate in New York are what they are and struggling to get an actual conservative elected there is a lost cause.

            You can’t win a political war through the electoral process alone. You have to engage the enemy at the level of ideas. The GOP doesn’t get this. They seem to think that winning an election with the “right candidate” is the ticket. Meanwhile most of the GOP is terrified to actually present exactly what their ideas are for fear that the Marxist Socialist Media (MSM) will target them.

            Standing and fighting is good, but you have to stand and fight in a way that means something. Fight for ideas. Be vocal about what you believe and learn to make strong arguments for the benefit of those who can be reached and persuaded.

            Arizona passed a law a little while back designed to do precisely that. It is still being fought in the courts by the federal government and various Marxist front groups.

            The law in question didn’t say or do anything new. Equivalent laws already exist at the federal level, and are deliberately ignored by those charged with enforcing them. So the people of Arizona took it upon ourselves to police our own state since the feds were clearly interested in doing the opposite.

            Yes, indeed, my wife and I spent our wholes lives in California. Born and raised. Until a few years ago when CA raised out state income to 10%. We are both medical professionals and could find jobs anywhere. So, we looked around and found Houston’s medical center and the entire state to our loving. We’re conservatives and not the kind that likes to give our hard earned money to people that don’t deserve it. And we left Monterey, CA to boot. Most beautiful place on the CA coast.

            While I agree with the overall message of your post, you’ve make a critical error. You describe the rancid ideology of the left as “liberal ideals.” They are nothing of the sort. Leftists don’t believe in liberty, they believe in tyranny. Actual liberal ideals do exist of course, and you can find them within the Conservative movement.

            Marxists began describing themselves as “liberals” several decades ago. They did this to hide and to confuse people. Back then the term liberal was used in its original (non ironic) sense. Reagan would qualify as a liberal under this true meaning, as would Thomas Jefferson, and most conservatives today. At that point the term liberal had a great deal of what marketing experts call brand equity. People had good feelings about the term even if they didn’t always quite understand what it meant. When the Marxist left began calling themselves liberals, they tapped into this brand equity and attempted to use it to promote their own ideas, which they were unable to openly promote because sane and decent people rejected them. This process continued until today the original meaning of the term liberal persists only in compound terms like liberal democracy. Otherwise the word is used only in the most ironic way.

            There are many legal ways to get around all the CA restrictions so that none of us really felt hindered over time – as we learned how to get around everything, the rules became pointless and nothing more than minor inconveniences – but people bought 2nd and 3rd guns so that they felt they could go to a public range and not draw attention to themselves for having something that was borderline legal, the rules became a selling point at gun shops for people to buy more guns.

          Obamuh may not have wanted it the first time, but he SIGNED the bill into law and he campaigned for the extension. The payroll tax holiday bill was passed in Dec 2010 by the lame-duck same Democrat Congress that shoved Obamacare down our collective throats and was signed by Obamuh. The Dems were in charge–they didn’t have to introduce the bill and it couldn’t have passed either house without their votes. And then when it was about to expire, just when the campaign primaries were about to start, in Dec 2011 Obamuh ran his “what can you do with $40” vote-buying scheme to drum up voter support to get Congress to extend it for another year. It needed Democrat support to pass the Senate–and Obamuh signed the bill AGAIN. So quit trying to pin this on the Republicans.

FICA payroll taxes are supposed to be dedicated to Social Security, but years of looting the fund for political purposes (by BOTH sides) has that fund at a massive deficit. Nobody in congress really sought to make that FICA tax decrease permanent, as it would underfund Social Security even more.

            As for delusions, arminia, I’m a psychiatrist. You don’t know what a delusion is, and you certainly have little or no room to talk about problems with reading comprehension.         The payroll tax deduction was only on the first $110k or so in income, and that would have been extended with S. 3412: Middle Class Tax Cut Act.

        The only reason your taxes went up was that they weren’t extended because republicans refused to extend them by passing S. 3412: Middle Class Tax Cut Act.

          The blame is on both. The fact is the democrat bill barely made it through and the Vice President was even present in the case of a tie breaker. The republican plan, failed to make it through the senate. Since their plan failed, I can only assume they refused to pass their counterparts bill. The inability to find a balance or middle ground is shameful on both parties. Frankly, makes me sick. If we, as regular Americans worked like Congress, I think all of us would be fired from our jobs across the board, which is what I believe needs to happen to our Congressional “leaders.” See, S.Amdt. 2573 for the republican plan that failed the senate.

But I am also going to list a few more things you probably didn’t know about it. 1. Social Security is not a legal obligation of the government. What does that mean? We The People have no legal right to the dollars we hand over to the federal government in the form of payroll taxes. They can raise the retirement age and will have to (reducing your benefits). Since the Fed is clearly on a weak dollar policy, seniors are being paid in dollars that are worth less. Reducing their benefits.
            4. What we should have is an account, in our name, and actually held in a trust in the way we think of a trust.
            5. Our government will never allow for an opt-out now since they can use your funds.

            Social Security is just as broke as the United States. If a politician says that it doesn’t add to the deficit, that is a lie also. It already is.

            I never argued that SS wasn’t broke. That also doesn’t mean SS is a failure either. Prior to SS, 80% of the elderly lived in poverty. Today about 25% live in poverty, proving that SS is helping.

            My argument this whole time was that Obama did not raise your taxes, Republicans did, but not passing S. 3412: Middle Class Tax Cut Act.

            Also, Obama is NOT a big spender. He increased spending by less than any president since Eisenhower. Our deficits and most of our debt is due to legislation REPUBLICANS passed, not Obama.

            That’s easy. While the baby boomers were working, the money they paid into SS went to pay their parents’ SS benefits. The government started raiding SS to pay for other things, and to add in disability payments and a host of other things. The government had no right to touch that money but there was a big surplus at the time and so they “borrowed” it. Well, we all know how well the government pays back the loans on money they borrow. They don’t! It keeps piling up.

            Now that the baby boomers are reaching retirement age, SS is broke! But unlike the times past that the baby boomers SS taxes had to pay for their parents’ benefits, there is a smaller younger generation who can not afford to pay EVERY baby boomer’s benefits. So the money has to come from somewhere! And it’s coming from printing more money – to the tune of 40 million dollars a month at the moment. And all that printing is adding to the deficit, and it’s also devaluing the American dollar, causing you to have to pay more for the same items you bought for less in the recent past.

            Soon, the government will have to print 50 million a month, then 60 million a month and none of this money is backed by gold. So what happens? The value of the dollar keeps going down. How does that affect you? That $1 hamburger at McDonalds has already gone up in price. It’s now $1.25. Then as the government prints more money, devaluing the dollar even more, that same hamburger will go up to $1.50, $2, $3, maybe even $5 for that same $1 hamburger that you used to buy for a buck. That’s inflation and everything is going up in price faster and faster and faster as the government falls more and more and more indebt to pay the baby boomers as they retire in more and more numbers. And that is how and why SS is putting this country into more and more debt.

            SS has become a ponzi scheme. And ponzi schemes come to an end when it goes bust, bankrupt, kaput. And I predict that will happen within 2 years or less. You can’t keep spending money that you don’t have and you cannot keep printing money forever. Something is going to give and America will be no more.

            The deficit was down to a bit under 150 BILLION with the last Republican Congress in FY2007. Dems took over in FY08 and ran it up to 450 Billion, and then to the trillion-plus we’ve had ever since.

    It’s a fact, there are too damn many leeches sucking off the teet of Uncle Sam. The overwhelming majority of workers went Romney, go look at it again. Take away Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, Detroit and Flint, and Cleveland and Columbus, and Miami. 5 areas. 5 entitlement riddled, broken, bankrupt, illegal gun infested, crime riddled, slices of an extremely large pie. Forget Mass and Cali, look at those 5 small areas and we smoke these guys.
    We deserve every little tweak this President bestows upon their self righteous heads. There will be NO learning from mistakes until said mistake is acknowledged, and by literally a couple thousand people in those 5 areas.
    Let’s pick a candidate NOW and not let him get bloodied 6 months prior in a primary, only to dust him off and say “We didn’t mean it, he’s cool, really.”
    The MTV/Reality TV culture doesn’t buy that stuff, once Russell Hantz was dubbed an enemy in Survivor, there was no coming back, each time he appeared on the screen a negative reaction was elicited, and CBS played on it until the season was over.             Do you know that there are SIX different methods of measuring the unemployment rate? They’re called U1 through U6. Google it. The goverment calculates the figures and then uses the lowest figures, but not necessarily the TRUTH…

            Here’s some more.

            The 7.7 percent rate is known as the “headline rate.” It is the rate you hear in the news. Its official designation is U.3.

            The Bureau of Labor Statistics has another official unemployment rate known as U.6.

            The difference is that U.3 does not include discouraged workers who are not currently actively seeking a job. (A discouraged worker is a person who has given up looking for a job because there are no jobs to be found.) The U.6 measure includes workers who have been discouraged for less than one year. The U.6 rate of unemployment is 14.4 percent, about double the headline rate.

        t’s not up to taxpayers to foot the insurance bill for middle class taxpayers. It’s up to middle class taxpayers to pay their own insurance. It’s a concept called “personal responsibility”. You should try it sometime.
        If you think that private insurers are stealing from the middle class (and I don’t disagree with you on this point), wait until there are no private insurers left and ObamaCare is the ONLY insurance. Then we’ll see who the real thief is.
        Oh, he’s doing so much better taking out terrorists. By using drones, that kill indiscriminately. Of course, if a Republican used those same drones, you would be screaming bloody murder.
        And Obama didn’t take out binLaden, Seal Team 6 did. He just gave the order, which took exactly no skill, courage, or brains. You could have done as much.
        How has he helped people with financial aid? I must have missed it, because he sure hasn’t helped either of my college age kids with that. In fact, one of them no longer qualifies for aid, even though his income hasn’t changed in the past few years.
        Any president can and should invest in America’s infrastructure. After all, it’s mandated in the Constitution.
        The President will eventually come for your paycheck, maybe not all at once, but he will change the meaning of the word “rich”, and the next thing you know, you will be one of “them”, but not for long.

    Those expressing regret about how the tax deal went down should seriously ask themselves if the Republicans wanted to extend the payroll tax 2% “holiday”.

    They did not.

    If the Republicans wrote the bill, it would have included the same tax rates for all but the very rich, who would have benefited more.They also would have started to reduce future benefits for Social Security.
