War on women? Here it is.

Shameful is being generous.

Monstrous, indeed. LifeNews has the horrifying story:

The lead-in to the video says, “A recent study showed that almost one in 10 high school students has been hit, slapped, or physically hurt on purpose by a boyfriend of girlfriend in the last 12 months.”

The link to the video bears the headline: “How to look your best the morning after.” It appears beside the picture of an obviously badly beaten young lady.

The video goes on to show the young woman talking about having a “bit of a rough time,” and then instructs teens on how to cover up the bruises resulting from domestic violence. The video, which is from a legitimate organziation fighting against domestic violence, does end with “don’t cover it up.”

But the way Planned Parenthood framed it, the message is just the opposite: “You probably had it coming, girls. May as well try to doll yourselves up afterward.” Appalling.

But, what else can one expect from an organization that routinely aids and abets the purposeful selective aborting of female babies, and covers up statuatory rape? Twitter users who have a moral compass are rightly outraged.

Heartbreaking and beyond repugnant. Other Twitter users are demanding answers from the cretins at Planned Parenthood via its Twitter feed.

We won’t hold our breath for an answer. Of course, Planned Parenthood is far too busy “teaching” our teens some more stuff. Like this, also from its Facebook page “Planned Parenthood Info for Teens.”

pplabia

Unreal.

Where is the feminist outrage at teaching young women to “look their best” after being violently beaten? So far, crickets. Abortion trumps all, you see.

  • Cold War Grunt

Nice … so much for that “PP is all about women’s health” diatribe.

Abortion, domestic violence, accessories after the fact, sure. Health, not so much.

  • $21367552

Well there is no feminist outrage because the video is fake and designed to draw attention to NOT covering up domestic violence with its shock value. But nice try at generating some faux outrage amongst your base.

For those who are not mindless cretins who swallow whatever propaganda Michelle Malkin feeds you, feel free to actually watch the video yourself and see the woman’s explanation here: http://refuge.org.uk/lauren/. You may disagree with her tactics but saying they are somehow monsters promoting domestic violence (or hiding it) is incredibly dishonest.

    • Cold War Grunt

Whatever gets you through the night …

    • Matt

I feel that your proclamation that we are all mindless cretins is projection on your part. Nothing bleets louder than a left-bot.

    • wwbdinct

Mindless cretins….. I think that describes you and PP and everyone else who has and continues to support the murder of innocent babies, half of them female. Hey girl – is that the repulsive Lena Dunham in the picture about the labia?

    • spot_the_dog

On the UK anti-domestic violence site they borrowed it from, the video is introduced with the headline: “Don’t cover it up.” Planned Parenthood headlines it “How to look your best the morning after”. WTF did they change it for?

      • Morgan

The video is originally titled “How to look your best the morning after” on YouTube, genius.

            “Oops.”

        • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

Are you referring to the “original” video that was done with the title “don’t cover it up” or the video done by PP with the title “How to look your best the morning after”?

    • Squander Two

I pointed out much the same thing, but my comment appears not to have got through moderation for some reason. It’s not that they’re cretins, though; it’s just that most Americans don’t get the British use of irony. Apparently, someone at Planned Parenthood does get it.

For the record, I’m right-wing and I generally dislike Planned Parenthood and oppose much of what they do. Contrary to what some commenters here seem to think, it is possible to remain unoutraged by this video without being a pro-abortion communist.

    • spot_the_dog

And actually, I’m thinking about the fact that it’s from a UK /domestic violence/ site. What makes a taxpayer-funded American abortion-b.c. provider assume that battered & abused teens are /their/ demographic as well? Correlation?

      • SpinMeNot

This is a fair point — but it begs another question. If PP doesn’t want domestic violence covered up, why do they perform abortions on girls that are not of legal age, and then find ways to not inform the parents of said girls?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002109532283 Jillane Kent

Did you bother to read the link, before criticizing, or do you just come here for the pretty pictures and fodder for your own “faux outrage”? From the article: The video is from a legitimate organization in the UK
that fights domestic violence. But the way Planned Parenthood headlines
it—with “How to look your best the morning after,” teens are mislead by
Planned Parenthood into the cover up mentality. On the anti-domestic
violence site, the video is introduced with the headline: “Don’t cover
it up.” That headline makes a world of difference to young teens who run
      across the video.

      • Streetiebird

You’re right, someone who only reads the title might be confused… *roll eyes*

        • SpinMeNot

          Useless idiot.

          • Streetiebird

            Thanks for your kind words.

        • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

Oh, so did they change the title just to dodge copyright infringement or something? C’mon, you can do better than that if you try. I’m SURE you could find something inherently racist in the use of makeup.

          • Streetiebird

            Hi Rob :) Merry Christmas!

          • Morgan

If they actually changed the title, sure. However they used the exact title used when the video was first posted on YouTube.

      • SpinMeNot

So why did PP change their title … come on, all we want is one answer.

Crap on a cracker, liberal progressive pukes that bring up issues and then refuse to defend indefensible statements.

        Useful Idiots.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002109532283 Jillane Kent

They changed the title because they are attention whores at heart.

          • SpinMeNot

And that is likely the correct answer … I can accept that. Its all about the marketing.

It got me to watch it, even if for a short portion.

            *hat-tip*

        • Morgan

That’s what it’s called on YouTube.

          • SpinMeNot

Agree – and I acknowledge that in your other response to me. Again, Ms. Duke was much clearer in her description of purpose on her site, once I found it.

“Don’t cover it up” campaign — and that made it all clear.

      • Morgan

The video is originally titled “How to look your best the morning after” on YouTube, genius.

    • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

      Try reading yourself, dingleberry.

  • Squander Two

I’m not a fan of Planned Parenthood, but I’m afraid this fake controversy merely demonstrates that they understand British irony, and Michelle Malkin doesn’t.

    • SpinMeNot

Why did they change the title, why did they not mark this as satire, etc.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph — can’t some lefty offer a real answer to a question that keeps getting asked?

      • Squander Two

Well, I have no idea whether some lefty is going to answer your questions, but I, a right-winger, will.

Why did they change the title?

Er, why not? When people link to stuff on the Internet, they often use their own title. This happens a zillion times a day. what’s the problem?

You appear to be suggesting that they changed the title because, whilst the purpose of the video’s makers was to oppose domestic violence, Planned Parenthood want to take that same video and use it to teach girls that they should accept domestic violence. And, while doing this, they still link to the original anti-domestic-violence site. What you’re suggesting makes no sense.

The video uses irony. Planned Parenthood used irony while linking to it.

Why did they not mark this as satire?

Same reaosn every episode of “The Office” doesn’t start with a huge caption on screen saying “THE FOLLOWING EVENTS ARE FICTIONAL AND THE CHARACTERS ARE PORTRAYED BY ACTORS”: because it’s obviously satire. Really, really obviously.

        • SpinMeNot

Well, as someone that lived in the UK for 18 months, and regularly watches BBC news, sitcoms, and dramas — I didn’t find it obvious at all. But I appreciate your answer.

Let us assume that somebody at Planned Parenthood changed the title just to be cute, and isn’t serious. The problem still exists — its offensive.

For the record, When I click on a youtube link, my tablet takes me to a youtube app, that takes me to the youtube video. I don’t get routed to the PP site, or the original site — I have to go hunt those down, I am not the only one.

Edit: And I must admit that after the first little bit, I quit watching the video and did a bit of “surfing” to find out more — I am able to turn off things that offend me, so I missed the very end.

PP is all about violence – they made themselves a target. They expect the right to apologize when we offend them, intentionally or otherwise. It seems only fair we expect the same.

          • Squander Two

So you didn’t watch the video to the end? Have you seen the episode of “Friends” where Phoebe thinks “It’s A Wonderful Life” is the most distressing film ever made?

Sorry, but 18 months really doesn’t cut it. We are steeped in this stuff. I have mixed feelings about British irony — I think we use it too much and it can make ordinary conversation quite difficult at times — it’s almost impossible for me to say that I like my job, for instance. But it does mean that the message of that video is completely uniquivocal and unambiguous to us.

You could of course complain that Planned Parenthood have knowingly linked to a foreign thing without putting it in context for their domestic audience. But that would be playing up to another stereotype the outside world believes about Americans: that you’re incapable of understanding foreign cultures.

          • SpinMeNot

With regards to Friends, no, I can honestly say I’ve never seen a single episode.

And I accept that 18 months is not the same as growing up there, but I have been there, and I do continue to actually prefer the sitcoms, drama, and news programs produced by the BBC over anything that the networks in the states have produced in decades.

The Brits, and most of Europe don’t get don’t get the 2nd Amendment, or for that matter the 1st Amendment. The 2nd Amendment is completely clear and unambiguous to us. Everytime my company brings someone from our European Office to the US, the ask if someone will take them shooting. I often do. So, that stereotype works both ways, and can proven incorrect as easily both ways.

PP should have been more explicit – And lets say, Glenn Beck expresses his first amendment rights and puts a bobble head of BHO into a jar of beer, at the end of a segment discussing some art is offensive, the left won’t go nuts? Well, we know that isn’t the case.

Again, thanks for the response, it is greatly appreciated.

          • Squander Two

In that episode of “Friends”, it turned out that Phoebe never watched the ends of films, so all the films we think are uplifting she thought were suicidally depressing, and vice versa.

No, most Brits don’t get the Second Amendment (I do). And I do not believe that Americans need to change their films and other cultural output to accommodate that lack of understanding, and I don’t believe either that British broadcasters or cinemas should have to provide explanations of American culture to their audiences so that they can understand films with guns in them. I think audiences should make some effort of their own to understand the messages they receive, even — or especially — when those messages come from another culture. So the Brits can watch and make the effort to understand films in which American citizens defend themselves with firearms, and the Americans can at least try to remember when watching anything from the UK that massive amounts of irony are almost certainly permeating its every second. Oh, and you should watch “Trainspotting” without subtitles too.

          • ozconservative

You ever seen “Harry Brown” with Micheal Caine in it????

          • Squander Two

You know, I think I might watch that right now.

      • Morgan

They didn’t. That’s the title on YouTube.

        • SpinMeNot

Ok, fair enough — The young woman that made the video, once I found the page uses: Lauren Luke – Don’t cover it up campaign.

The YouTube video is the “how to look your best”, and the original posting to PP FB page uses “How to look your best the morning after.”

When I tracked down the original source of the video, makes it clear that it is a PSA. If the original FB posting had been a bit more clear, like say “PSA — Don’t cover it up, or “How to look your best the morning after” I probably would have said, “Thats just tasteless” and moved on.

And for the record, my older sister was the victim of domestic violence for years, so I don’t find any satire appropriate on this topic.

But yes, I acknowledge that title on YouTube was not changed by PP.

          • mdtljt

OK, Streetie…I’m with you on that one!!! If I mistook your prior statement I apologize…I really don’t think this subject is one to joke about, poke fun at or try to cover up – even with L’Oreal or Clinique. As I stated above, I’ve been hit, I’ve had friends physically and emotionally abused by the guys they “loved” and even lost one – she was beaten to death with a hammer – to a control-freak bastard, so I get a bit testy when someone suggests ways to “cover it up” thereby tacitly absolving the abuser…especially when they claim to be a champion of women’s rights.

          • Streetiebird

Hey, I apologize for coming off harsh, but this ad was supposed to wake people up to the scary truth that women will cover up their wounds after being battered and Twitchy makes it sound like… the opposite. So we are on the same page here :)

          • mdtljt

Groovy…I’ve used their services in the past, and to be honest, was grateful at the time (just out of college and so broke I couldn’t pay attention) but that was back in the stone age…they’ve changed quite a bit since then…or maybe they haven’t but have become more vocal about things I find dubious at best. What sucks most is that it seems women’s health has become a political hockey puck to bash about and try to score points with. I think we all can agree that the health of our mothers, daughters, friends and ourselves (if we’re of the female persuasion) should be paramount and devoid of the political rantings of one side OR the other….hell, women’s and men’s health should BOTH be apolitical….but I completely understand the frustration felt when women see insurance companies jumping to pay for men’s boner-meds but balk at covering women’s meds to prevent the inevitable result of men using boner-meds…pay for both or neither…

          • Streetiebird

YES! Thank you. They have come under HEAVY attack and have become defensive out of necessity unfortunately. They still provide the same services as before, and are still trying to help poor women locate the care they need.

Others claim they perform sex-selection abortions, abort black babies, hide women being beat up, hide rapes, and ONLY perform abortions. None of which is true :(

It’s frustrating that they’ve become, as you said, a political hockey puck.

If YOU like to have the stuffing beat out of you, have your eyes blackened and bones broken, have at it – exceptionally weird kink but your absolute right. Do NOT try to tell other women it’s OK…so sorry your self-esteem is so low. Far from it. When I saw the video it made me feel terrible for all the women out there that feel like they need to cover up their bruises so no one will find out. It makes a good point that battered women should not cover up their wounds so that more attention would be focused on the abuser, not the abused.

I guess when you watched it you thought: Planned Parenthood is disgusting for suggesting women cover up their wounds!

Which is actually the opposite of their message. Oh well.

          Thank you Jillane…

      • Vennoye

Is this what you call “acting out against violence toward women”??? Sounds more to me like they are saying “everybody’s doing it” so live with it and get over it…oh, and by the way, here is how to use your makeup to protect your abuser!!

      • http://pinterest.com/j0s1395/ Josephine (D)

Are you kidding me? They’ve covered up rape, and support sex-selective abortions. BTW, one woman my mother worked with when she lived in Chicago was beaten by her husband, but managed to survive. I may not be a victim, but don’t tell me I haven’t been warned about it.

        • Streetiebird

How many women a year do they help vs how many rapes they’ve supposedly “covered up”? If you don’t care to use their services then don’t, nobody is forcing you. But all this rightwing dialog about destroying them is doing harm to their cause, and if they do have to close their doors it will mean some women have no way to get basic help with things like cancer screenings. Do carry on though, just feel lucky that you don’t depend on their services like many poor women do.

          • spot_the_dog

“if they do have to close their doors it will mean some women have no way to get basic help with things like cancer screenings”

Um, Obamacare? So surely PP will be redundant in a year or so anyway, right?

          • Streetiebird

          • Streetiebird

Sure, I’ll answer. Obamacare has exemptions for poverty, so if you can’t afford insurance you won’t have it. If you take away PP then you’re leaving women in poverty with no way to get basic care, cancer screenings, birth control, etc.

            Happy now?

          • spot_the_dog

“Obamacare has exemptions for poverty, so if you can’t afford insurance you won’t have it.”

Anyone that poor will be covered by Medicaid. Making out that Obama’s much-ballyhooed “Affordable Care Act” is going to leave millions of low-income American women with no healthcare options except an abortion mill is silly. The whole freaking point of Obamacare was to expand healthcare coverage to 100% of Americans. And for the millionth time, PP does not perform cancer screenings.

          • Streetiebird

What do you consider a cancer screening? If mammogram then you’re partly right. If you mean breast exams, then you’re 100% wrong.

Obamacare was nerfed by Obama caving to Republicans and failing to institute the popular Public Option, so it now lacks the competition that could have allowed more people to afford insurance. Oh well.

          • spot_the_dog

“Obamacare was nerfed by Obama caving to Republicans”

Obama had a Democrat super-majority when Obamacare went through. Republicans didn’t gain the House until 2010. Had he got all his fellow Dems on-side, he wouldn’t have needed a single Republican vote. There was no “caving” to Republicans. Next?

Oh, and show me where citizens on 133% of the poverty line and below won’t be catered to by Obama’s expanded Medicare, and those on up to 400% above it won’t be subsidised by the taxpayer in being handed subsidies to buy from Obama’s highly-vaunted Obamacare exchanges. Ta.

Sure, I’ll answer. Obamacare has exemptions for poverty, so if you can’t afford insurance you won’t have it. If you take away PP then you’re leaving women in poverty with no way to get basic care, cancer screenings, birth control, etc.

            Happy now?

          • Streetiebird

That’s not funny, unless you don’t care for poor people or don’t understand Obamacare. I’m assuming the former, in your case.

          • spot_the_dog

“if they do have to close their doors it will mean some women have no way to get basic help with things like cancer screenings”

Um, Obamacare? So surely PP will be redundant in a year or so anyway, right?

          • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

Actually, women can get help from the National Breast and Cervical Early Detection Program provided by the CDC. http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/nbccedp/about.htm

          • Streetiebird

Then why don’t you want to cut the CDC funding?

          • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

I’ve never said I’ve wanted to cut funding for anything. Come on Streetiebird if you’re so concerned about women’s health as you claim then please offer up more options for women to use in order to get health care. Don’t just post baseless claims about “not caring for poor people” or that “some women have no way to get basic help with cancer screenings”. You really can’t stand the fact that someone offers up other alternatives to getting health screenings or other information to counter your scare tactic claims can you?

Such BS. Same old, tired lefty talking points. Ooooo – there will be NOWHERE where women can go to get cancer screenings. Please. PP is the only place in the world that women can get screened for cancer. What a lie you defenders of the baby killers continue to perpetuate! I’ll tell you what. I’m totally on board to fund a place where woman can get cancer screenings as long as they don’t murder babies there. So we can agree on that, right?

          • Streetiebird

*sigh* so women can go somewhere else to get cancer screenings, but if that place is allowed to perform abortions then they should just let the woman die instead? That seems to be the typical response on this topic.

          • wwbdinct

Taxpayers shouldn’t be funding abortions. It just never sinks into the thick skulls of you whack jobs. You want abortion – you fund it.

I an SICK of hearing about the BS for cancer screening that they don’t do by give a referral for which women can go to a hospital clinic and get it done for free if they qualify.. However what they can’t get is an abortion so they can get rid of GIRL babies nor can they get all this so VALUABLE information on how to HIDE being beat up rather than going for help on rebuilding their self esteem so they get away from these abusers.. Been there and there was NO HELP for ANY government agency.. it took a PRIVATELY FUNDED self help group to give REAL advise that WORKED..

News Flash, Streetie: Planned Parenthood doesn’t do cancer screenings. They don’t do mammograms, they don’t do paps; in fact, they don’t even do the basics that the law requires, like having actual doctors talk with these poor misguided women before dispensing oral abortions. Any time they can get around the law they do it; abortions are a big big business, and they not only don’t care about these “poor women who depend on their services” they push them into aborting. If all a woman wants to do is get a pregnancy test they will charge her $15, when it’s free across the street at her local pregnancy care center.

You’re an ass. Anyone who doesn’t even get the facts before siding with his political base on everything is just plain stupid. You qualify.

          • Streetiebird

I could argue the point by telling her she’s wrong, PP does cancer screenings and can refer women for Mammograms, but I felt it would save time to just give her her sign. Would you like one next?

          • ForTheRepublic

Meanwhile, in the sane world, people know the difference between DOING and REFERRING.

          • Streetiebird

Which is why I used both of them correctly. Thanks for playing!

          • ForTheRepublic

You’ve been arguing on EVERY SINGLE PP thread that they DO Mammograms and Cancer screenings. Now you say they REFER them. Sheesh, did Al Sharptin lend you his teleprompter?

          • Streetiebird

Where did I say they do mammograms? They perform basic cancer screenings in the office and refer for mammograms. I’ve been very consistent on that.

          • wwbdinct

You see – Streetiebird just HAD to get the last word in. I’m never proven wrong.

          • Typewriterstreaming

Whether or not they have helped anyone does not excuse PP from enabling underage prostitution, or from sending out a terrible message to teens about abuse. This isn’t about right or left anything, which is the kind of social spin that attempts to confuse the issue, while protecting egregious behaviors.

      • Typewriterstreaming

Unfortunately, that is not the core message of that video. Rather, it is a message enabling of abuse. And, they can get away with ignorant messages like that, because so many individuals appear to have exceedingly poor comprehension skills.

    • sonoitabear

      And you’re a LIAR…

  • Streetiebird

Even teenage girls can understand the message in the video, it’s abundantly clear that Twitchy misunderstood it or didn’t watch it.

And HOW DARE Planned Parenthood draw attention to domestic violence!!!!

The message is: “Don’t cover it up!”
Twitchy reports it as: “Cover it up!”

But let’s all get outraged anyway!!!!!

    • spot_the_dog

So it’s correct for “planned parenthood” (what an Orwellian name anyway) to assume that a large proportion of their teenaged abortion and b.c. clients are also being physically abused? And btw, it was the UK domestic violence association’s headline that was “don’t cover it up”. The American abortion-provider’s headline was a bit different, ay?

      • Streetiebird

You’re anti Planned Parenthood, I get it. And yes, if you only read the headline you may be confused, similar to most Twitchy articles and the internet in general.

        • spot_the_dog

If I “only read the headline”, how did I come to quote from the article itself? FFS.

          • Streetiebird

So you watched the video? I’m sure it became clear what the message was, why are you still confused?

          • SpinMeNot

Yes, and the message isn’t clear if you don’t do the additional research.

The video is offensive. Just like rap music that glorifies this sort of thing, killing LEOs, drugs, etc. Your side gets all pissy when Glenn Beck puts a BHO bobble-head in a jar of beer, and yet putting a crucifix in a urinal is art.

You keep repeating the same point, and not answering the questions. Go watch Dora the Explorer if you aren’t going at least engage in a discourse civil or otherwise.

And don’t bother, I know you aren’t reading these. Idiot.

          • journogal

And outlaw McDonald’s $1 menu, too. Can’t forget that one.

      • Shawn Smith

Isn’t it interesting that people who are fighting for “reproductive rights” are mostly concerned with *not* reproducing? Promoting homosexuality, government funded birth prevention, no hint of restriction on abortion.

        Orwellian is right.

    • SpinMeNot

No, I watched it, its offensive. You liberal progressive pukes think you get to decide what is and isn’t offensive. You don’t.

This sort of crap just leads to desensitization, like gangster rap, like violence in movies, etc. Its a time honored trick of the trade for the far left.

      Useless idiots, all of you.

I will not wish you a merry anything, I hold you in the utmost of contempt. I’ll deal with that when my time comes be judged, but I’m not going to stop fighting you and your ilk, ever.

Is that clear enough for your public school education to understand?

The original video on the website http://refuge.org.uk/lauren/ states “don’t cover it up” and explains how someone may act when they are abused or try to cover it up. As I stated in a post earlier, it’s not much help when you place “how to look your best the morning after” on a video for someone who’s probably hearing “it’s your fault, no one will believe you, I’ll hurt you worse next time” to see and think “well, let me cover it up so no one sees me like this”. And not everything is a conspiracy Streetiebird but if by us getting upset about the implication of PP’s use of a video then by all means call it how you see it if it makes you feel better.

      • Streetiebird

I understand where you’re coming from, I really do. But I think it’s doubly-petty for Twitchy to blatantly hype the misleading assumption that PP is helping teens cover up wounds, even though misinformation is sort of their business model. Again, the post was supposed to make people think, it has clearly failed.

      • Streetiebird

I am not shocked, but we must carry our outrage to the public and tell them what is happening. Then we can win the culture war. PPabortion is the Left’s Achilles Heel.

  • Purple State

Oh the irony of Twitchy trying so hard to spin PP’s use of irony.

    • wwbdinct

Right. Now PP was just meaning to be ironic. Not that they realize they made a huge blunder because we all know that no one on the left can EVER apologize for a mistake, accept the responsibility and move on. Always excuses and spin. Way to defend baby killers guys!

    • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

Irony? Was that like when Rep.H. Johnson (D) was afraid Guam might tip over from too many Marines?

      • Squander Two

No, that was idiocy. Irony is when you attempt and fail to use irony to ridicule someone else’s correct identification of irony by giving a false example of irony which you incorrectly assume that the person you’re arguing with might regard as irony. Like you just did.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002109532283 Jillane Kent

Are teenagers and young adults often lauded for their ability to discern irony? These are the same people who are achieving lessor SAT scores than their parents and believing that Romney could have outlawed tampons/the dollar menu/hair weaves. My bet is a resounding no.

  • peteee363

come on, this cannot be any sicker then killing babies by the truckload, as pp does now! but it does fit with thier whole mission statement.

  • http://twitter.com/Sincerly_oo Sincerely —

I can’t believe our tax dollars pay for this garbage.

  • ZoriahShepard

Just when I thought that I couldn’t be more outraged at PP – they do something like this.

  • Lillian Frances Burdette

This is so upsetting to me because I did that for years and now have the scars and disfigurations on my face to pay for my cowardice. All girls that age going through that will blame themselves, feel shame, and attempt to hide the truth. PP needs to be 100% can’t be mistaken that they don’t support it-but they show their true colors-they really don’t care.

  • http://twitter.com/yahneverknowCB yahneverknow

Typical Leftist excuse when called out:
    “It was a JOKE, man.”

Those that are bruised and don’t fight it, generally, have a problem with perception. That is part of the reason physical and emotional abuse continues. Giving those abused people a mixed message EVER is the absolute WORST thing to do.

Stupid excuse for a stupid campaign.

    • Squander Two

Again, this video comes from the UK, where we have irony. It’s not a mixed message: it’s a very very clear message. If you have trouble understanding the clarity of that message because it comes from another country, might I politely suggest that you try making as much effort to understand us as we make to understand you? We have to learn loads of foreign dialect and cultural references and stuff just to understand your sit-coms.

      And I’m not a leftist.

      • http://twitter.com/yahneverknowCB yahneverknow

If Planned Parenthood tossed out this video with a disclaimer that “it’s from the Brits!,” then your argument might have some merit. But they tossed it out, changed the title, and either didn’t understand the Brit humor, don’t understand American minds, or didn’t care what message it might send.

American girls are their audience. By your own argument, their mindset and abilities to understand other cultures is different than Brits. I agree.

In general, Brits don’t pull punches. They say what they mean. Look at how your government folks talk to each other. Yes, I agree. Brits are much more “in your face” and have a much stronger self-awareness to not take the shit when abuse occurs.

You’re basically saying, oh, you stupid, old Americans can’t take a joke.

You’re wrong. Many of us can. But we are not the ones that are targeted by this campaign. And we also realize that the majority of Americans can’t see whatever “irony” there is in it. Putting out this video doesn’t make people understand.

By pointing out the differences in Brit vs. American culture, you essentially proved the argument that this video was a stupid campaign for Planned Parenthood IN THE U.S.A.

        • Squander Two

Why on Earth would Planned Parenthood need to announce that the video is British when it features an English person talking in a strong English accent throughout?

That aside, are you now saying that Planned Parenthood are disgracefully trying to teach young girls that they should put up with domestic violence (which was the original complaint made by Malkin and by a lot of the commenters here) or that Planned Parenthood have stupidly failed to point out to their website’s readers that a video is British and might therefore feature irony? They’re very different complaints.

          • http://twitter.com/yahneverknowCB yahneverknow

            Are those the only choices?

My point was as I originally stated, so I don’t understand why you have to ask what it is “now,” when I never changed it to begin with.

It is a stupid excuse for a stupid campaign.

If you’re in charge of Planned Parenthood in the U.S.A. and…
            1. … actually think that the typical young American girls who would be seeing and utilizing Planned Parenthood’s services and information actually have a grasp on Brit humor or irony, you are delusional.
            2. … put out the video knowing that most of your target audience will not understand the irony in the message, then you are evil.
            3. … do not comprehend that your target audience will not understand the irony in the message, then you are incompetent.
            4. … have people working for you that do any of the above, then you are incompetent or evil or delusional.

They put out the video because they are delusional, evil, or incompetent in their organization and/or in their management.

And the big picture? The message that would be received by most of their target audience is “cover up for someone hitting you.”

(In other words: Move along, nothing to see here.)

          • Squander Two

The whole point of this Twitchy page is that Planned Parenthood are deliberately trying to teach young girls that they should put up with domestic violence and that this goes to show what an appalling immoral organisation they are — Malkin even puts the words “You probably had it coming, girls” into their mouths. None of your four points are remotely close to that. So you and I agree that Malkin is completely wrong on this one. Thank you.

          • http://twitter.com/yahneverknowCB yahneverknow

Just in case~> what Squander Two just replied: “The whole point of this Twitchy page is that Planned Parenthood are deliberately trying to teach young girls that they should put up with domestic violence and that this goes to show what an appalling immoral organisation they are — Malkin even puts the words “You probably had it coming, girls” into their mouths. 1. Actually, the whole point of this Twitchy page is to aggregate the Twitter response to what Planned Parenthood did.

            2. By being incompetent, evil, and/or delusional, Planned Parenthood is teaching young girls just that. And they put out the video as they did. I consider that deliberate.

            3. I consider lying and misdirection immoral. If you don’t, then you don’t.

            4. What was written above by Twitchy that you are referencing: “But the way Planned Parenthood framed it, the message is just the opposite: “You probably had it coming, girls. May as well try to doll yourselves up afterward.” Appalling.” Twitchy is not putting words in anyone’s mouths. It is making the point that the message is different because of how it is framed and presented by Planned Parenthood.

            5. I did not have four points. I had 4 categories that the Planned Parenthood people fall into, and they all pointed to one conclusion, which was my ONE original point.

Er, that’s what “putting words in someone’s mouth” means.

I’m not pretending you’re on my side. I am perfectly capable of understanding British people, whilst you think that using irony without giving people advance warning constitutes evil lying. You are thereby proving to any Brit reading this that all their anti-American bigotry is correct. So well done.

          • http://twitter.com/yahneverknowCB yahneverknow

You have difficulty with reading comprehension, eh?

I’m not even gonna bother any more. Your defensive walls of Kumbayah niceties are closing in on you and you don’t even see it. You represent the worst kind of leftist, those who pretend they are independent thinkers, but when brought a mirror of reality can’t stand to look. Duck and distract.

Here, have the whole bag of cookies. Maybe it’ll keep you from talking for a while.

            Cheers!

          • Squander Two

And you represent the worst kind of right-winger, a type I come across distressingly often on right-wing websites like this one: someone who, when faced with any disagreement whatsoever, assumes that the only way anyone could possibly disagree with them is by being a lefty. I’m right-wing. Seriously, I’m probably the most right-wing person any of my acquaintances know. We’re arguing about irony here. There’s nothing inherently leftish or rightish about being able to comprehend irony.

Funny, though: you accuse me of having difficulty with reading comprehension, but you yourself accuse me of being left-wing after reading about my support of the Tea Party and the Second Amendment. It’s ironic, ironically.

          • Guest

I’m beginning to think that you might be BRITISH. And that you think that anyone here might CARE. Numpty.

None of your four points are remotely close to that. So you and I agree that Malkin is completely wrong on this one. Thank you.”

Oh, and one other point that seems lost in the shuffle.

Most Americans hear British or Aussie accents* and think “authority.”
I don’t know if Brits understand this, but it is sadly true.

*by those accents, I mean the versions that are more standard or associated with upper class

(edited to add: there’s a reason infomercials tend to use at least one salesperson with an Aussie or Brit accent.)

          • Squander Two

Er, have you actually watched the video? She has a Tyneside accent, which is about as upper-class as Bill Clinton’s is Brooklyn.

          • http://twitter.com/yahneverknowCB yahneverknow

            Again.

Young Americans don’t know that. Most of them think an Aussie or South African accent is British. They don’t recognize or distinguish among other accents/dialects like Gaelic, Scottish, Cockney, etc. either.

You’re bringing up this point and ignoring the main point.
(Your claim of not being a leftist is losing ground now.)

There is an auto-assumption among mainstream America that Brit accent = authority or expert. It’s not something they think about. It just happens. There are also auto-assumptions about other dialects in American speech and other accents like East Indian, various Asian, etc.

I only brought it up because you spoke about the British accent.

          • Squander Two

It was you who said “I mean the versions that are more standard or associated with upper class”, not me. And I only brought up the English (not British) accent because you said that Planned Parenthood should have warned their readers that the video was from the UK.

And my claim of not being left-wing is losing ground because of an argument about how Americans perceive English accents? Er, what?

And Gaelic isn’t an accent; it’s a language.

Koreans have a distinct accent when speaking English.
Korean refers to a country, an accent, and a language.

People who are native Gaelic speakers have a distinct accent when speaking English. I was trying to be nice and distinguish the accent from the word “Irish” which can refer to people who are native English speakers (edited to add: and don’t appear to have the stereotypical “Irish,” meaning Gaelic, accent.)

          • Squander Two

If you had the faintest idea what you were talking about, you’d know that Gaelic is spoken across large parts of Scotland as well as Ireland. The Scots and the Irish have very different accents. Hence, no such thing as a Gaelic accent. I don’t know why you think it’s nice to avoid using the word “Irish”. I’m sitting in Ireland as I type this, and I can assure you that no-one here minds their accent being called “Irish”. And yes, “Irish” always refers to people who are native English speakers, since everyone in Ireland is a native English speaker.

          • http://twitter.com/yahneverknowCB yahneverknow

            (You’re still talking? /facepalm)

Linguistically, accents/dialects are distinguished by native language and/or physical or cultural regions/groupings/divisions. Your points are off-point and demonstrate your severe butthurt that caused you to lash out about things that don’t matter and/or of which you appear to know nothing of worth.

And for anyone who actually read down to this and gives a crap…

            Clifs:
Abused people have a problem with perception.
Skewed perception makes seeing things like irony difficult.

Some people just can’t admit they might be wrong.

          • Squander Two

Can’t admit I’m wrong? Why do you think I’m even reading Twitchy? I was brought up mired in standard British leftwingery. I’m from a family who supported the USSR in the Cold War. I was raised on kneejerk hatred of America and Israel. Now I support the Tea Party and the Second Amendment, I’m a big fan of George Bush, and I read the likes of Jonah Goldberg and Michelle Malkin. I have admitted I was wrong.

You, on the other hand, can’t tell the difference between irony and lying and think that Planned Parenthood are evil because they linked to a video featuring someone using irony in an English accent.

How long will it be before Planned Parenthood has hired Sandra Fluke to do TV commercials wherein young and immature females are re-assured that there is no such thing as a “normal” you-know-what?

  • tuxkatz

I didn’t see the context of the post by PP, but the video seems to advocate exactly the opposite of what you’re purporting. At the end, it says “65% of women who suffer from domestic violence keep it hidden. Don’t cover it up”
It’s a PSA to speak out if you’re being abused *instead of* covering it up.
Again, I didn’t see how PP framed it, but it should be explained what the true purpose of the video is. Not to mention that many teens who would look to cover their bruises might click on a link for a “how to” video and see this message…which might not reach them otherwise. There are many things I don’t like about PP, and I certainly don’t believe it should receive any taxpayer funding, but without seeing something showing that they posted it to advocate hiding bruises with makeup, this seems a little far-fetched.

    • orringtonmom (D)

yeah… i think there might be a bit overreacting going on. PP was trying to be too clever for it’s own good.

    • tuxkatz

Thank you Twitchy for editing to explain the real message of the video!
I wish there was a screenshot of how PP portrayed it, but that definitely helps the story.

      • spot_the_dog

Here is a screencap of the video as featured on the “Planned Parenthood for Teens’ FB page: http://ScrnSht.com/ckymra
        Cheers.

        • tuxkatz

So….the link for the youtube video displays the title of the youtube video. Just like every time you share a youtube video.
Yeah, this is definitely one of those things blown out of proportion.
Let’s fight the PP battles that actually exist instead.

  • Squander Two

Being British, I am surrounded by bigotted anti-Americanism on a daily basis. I don’t hate Americans myself, so I often call people out on this bullshit: I am in the minority here, as someone who actually stands up for Americans when you’re being slagged off by pretty much everyone. I like the Second Amendment, I much prefer the Republicans to the Democrats, I read “National review”, and I even support the Tea Party. Hey, I even liked Dubya. These are all things that are regarded as completely insane over here.

One of the most common British complaints about Americans is that you don’t understand irony. When someone makes yet another mention of “irony-deficient Yanks”, I disagree, pointing out that Americans can actually be really good at irony (you do after all make “The Simpsons”); you just don’t use it quite the same way as the British.

After reading the comments in this thread, I’m going to stop doing that. My fellow countrymen are right: you guys clearly can’t even begin to wrap your heads around the concept. You actually find it easier to believe batshit-crazy conspiracy nonsense than the idea of someone saying the opposite of what they mean. You’re as bad as the Germans. Although Germans are polite.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

There isn’t irony in being abused by someone who’s supposed to love you. There isn’t any irony in PP taking a video from http://refuge.org.uk/lauren/ that states “don’t cover it up” at the beginning of their video and offers information on how someone being abused may act or try to cover it up on their website. PP changes the message and states “How to look your best the morning after” in effect making someone who’s being abused and probably told “don’t tell anyone, they won’t believe you, I’ll hurt you worse, I’ll kill you, you deserved it” etc that they need to suck it up and put on a pretty face. I’m glad you support items that are classified as being conservative or republican but I can’t support PP doing this type of idiotic message to “look your best the morning after”.

      • Squander Two

You’re making my point for me here.

        • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

          How nice

          • Squander Two

Well, what can I say? You’re taking textbook examples of irony and preceding them with the phrase “There isn’t irony in”. You clearly don’t know what irony is.

          • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

A big example of irony ~ this story has inspired massive amounts of posts by someone who seems to be an expert on irony (and whether the video from PP is an example of irony) and wants to debate if something is British enough. We get you “defend” us to your friends (even though you don’t need to), we get that your “right-wing, 2nd amendment loving, supportive of Bush and the Tea Party”. Irony is debatable because they’re are many examples and it can depend on the interpretation of readers. Also, even if you feel someone is misusing it, you know what we mean. Are you continually arguing about whether Americans get irony to make yourself look smarter than us “ignorant about irony Americans”?

      • Squander Two

You’re making my point for me here.

    • GTFOBigGovt

Oh we are so #caring about what British think of Americans.

      • Squander Two

This entire page is about American reaction to a British video, so yeah, apparently you care quite a lot about what we say.

        • Guest

Look mate. We GET that you’re British. Woo-hoo, God save your Queen and all that, but really. This post is about AMERICAN reaction to an AMERICAN taxpayer-funded abortion and birth control provider posting a video with a dubious headline on an AMERICAN taxpayer-funded site for AMERICAN teenagers.

GET OVER YOURSELF. America is not one of your pink bits anymore and hasn’t been for some centuries now. Americans don’t really give a flying fish what some numpty in a now-failed failed “empire” (whose arses got whipped back in the 1700s, remember that mate?) thinks. The UK has three times the level of sexual assault against women than the US does so go fix your own house (using all the precious oh-so-sophisticated “irony” you feel necessary).

          TL;DR = YOU’RE BRITISH. HOW SPECIAL. WE DON’T CARE.

        • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

Actually, we’re reacting to Planned Parenthood and their misleading use of this video. Most of us are applauding the initial intent of this video by Lauren Luke. PP took a great idea and lost the message in their presentation and title.

    • Back 4 More

It’s ok, you can stop defending America to you friends. The vast majority of Americans couldn’t care less what you Brits think of us. With the exception of Keeley Hazell and Kate Beckinsale I don’t think any of us spend much time thinking about anything that happens in the UK. Oh yea, FYI, the Germans are only polite because they’re probably scared Churchwill will come back and start carpet bombing the civilian population again.

What shade of eye shadow does Planned Parenthood recommend for a fresh purple and black shiner?

And what other shades or tones does it recommend for when ruptured blood vessels heal and said shiner hues greenish red later?

    It’s all about the accessories.

Ignorant and masochistic young girls need to know!

  • sb36695

I guess they don’t mind women being beaten as long as an abortion is involved?
Ladies, if you are beaten, PLEASE seek help and don’t worry about how you look.

  • Guest

Had you actually watched the video you would know that it was made by youtube beauty vlogger Lauren Luke to raise awareness about domestic abuse.
Planned Parenthood had nothing to do with the production of that video. The only thing they did was post it.

  • SturJen

Here’s a question that I want to know: If this video is supposed to be anti-abuse, then WHY is it that PP will not ask a woman if she is being coerced into an abortion? Wouldn’t that be a type of abuse as well? They can condone the murder of babies at the coercion of it’s father against the mother..then why is it a stretch to believe they would condone any other abuse by men?

You’ve got to understand the culture of death. It’s insidious…you start justifying the death of one person for the happiness of another, then you can extrapolate that out to extend to the abuse of a person for the happiness of another. In fact, It’s not even a stretch to think along that line. When you start treating a pregnant woman like a broken sex toy, then it’s nothing to treat them like a permanent sex toy – thrown out of not needed any more.

Folks, you gotta watch the video. I hate Planned Parenthood, and I think they’re a bunch of weasels, but the clip was showing the lengths some girls go to when trying to hide the abuse they get from their boyfriends. Klanned Parenthood also loves to cover up crime. They don’t report pedophiles, child abusers, rapists, those who beat up women, and anyone else that is hurt, as long as they can sell more abortions.

So there is no surprise they are here trying to hide the evidence of more crime.
