Oh, my. As Twitchy reported yesterday, Kevin Clash took a leave of absence after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor. Today, the accuser has apparently recanted.

Twitchy will monitor this story and update with further developments.

The “Being Elmo” Twitter feed tweeted this yesterday:

No reaction yet to the recantation. Twitter users, however, do react.

wonders if there was a payoff here perhaps an investigation by law enforcement should be in order if nothing wrong was done then he will be cleared and the false accusation can be prosicuted

    • FromNJ

I think the only thing that cleared was a big check to the anonymous fellow.

  • Russ

The problem with random sexual allegations is that they ruin peoples lives whether they are true or not!

    • Michelle

Exactly. And it’s a shame we’ve turned into a society who believes the accusations and the accused to be guilty without using any critical thinking. I suspected it was a bunch of hogwash when it was reported the accuser went to Clash’s employer and not the police. That makes it pretty clear the guy was looking for $$$. His attempt to get rich failed, but unfortunately the damage has been done to Clash’s reputation.

      • YeahWeWill

I know! Kind of what happened to Romney and Ryan!

        • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

And Herman Cain. Notice how the Axelrod gals disappeared after he dropped out.

      • DeBaliviere

Given the speed with which the accusations disappeared and Clash’s refusal to name his “blackmailer,” it’s pretty clear Clash paid for silence.

        • Michelle

That’s not clear at all. That’s simply how you’re choosing to decide was the outcome. Maybe, just maybe the young man withdrew his accusations because there was evidence the relationship started when the accuser was in fact of age. Maybe there were some emails or photos and witnesses that could prove the man was an adult when they met. If it was about paying him the money to make him go away, wouldn’t they have done that BEFORE the accusation became public and ruined Clash’s reputation? Although it’s a concept that society as a whole has moved away from, I still believe in innocent until proven guilty.

          • DeBaliviere

Innocence until proven guilty is a courtroom concept applicable to criminal cases. This situation is akin to a civil case. There’s no point whatsoever in attempting extortion if you have no ammunition. If Clash knew the extortionist’s charges to be false, he would have beat feat to the nearest precinct. Sorry, I’m just being logical. I don’t have a dog in this fight.

          • Michelle

A concept applicable to criminal cases…as in exclusively? As in that’s the only place it’s applicable? Folks can’t use it in their day-to-day opinions on matters? Are you kidding me? Again and for the last time, you choose to believe a conclusion YOU came up with, not one that is supported by fact or details. Someone doesn’t attempt extortion unless they have ammo? Hilarious. Answer the question you failed to answer – if it was a matter of the accuser being correct and Sesame Workshop paying him off – WHY ARE WE EVEN READING ABOUT IT? This accusation happened MONTHS ago. Logical in your mind, that’s all. I’ll play – what proof, evidence or verifiable facts do you have that Sesame Workshop and/or Clash paid off the accuser? Because right now, all you have is what you’ve decided to belief. Facts? Evidence? Any?

          • DeBaliviere

Calm down and I’ll try again. Extortionists try obtain money in exchange for withholding information that might damage another’s reputation if revealed, Revealing that an adult male had a sexual relationship with a juvenile male would be damaging…even if the witness is now an adult. So Clash resists demands for cash and boy-toy goes to press. The news gets out and Clash’s fat six-figure income is in jeopardy. Clash is scared and has a change of heart. So he forks over cash to boy toy. After check clears boy toy says “Oopsie! Me made a boo-boo. Me was 18, I forgotted.” No stretching required.

What does require suspension of credulity is your version of the story: “Me humpie Elmo when me 16. Oopsie! Me made a boo-boo. Me was 18, I forgotted.”

          • Michelle

I’m not worked up, so save your “calm down” and you were clear the first time, I simply didn’t (and still don’t) agree with your assessment. I suppose it takes being wrongfully accused of something before a person can truly understand how by appearances and one side of a story, it can appear the accused did what he/she was accused of, but upon review of the facts in reality, the accused was innocent all along. Here’s a fact in this situation – neither you nor I know what truly happened. You choose to believe (based on no evidence whatsoever) the accused is guilty and simply paid off the accuser – that’s the more fun conclusion, isn’t it? Thinking the worst of people, especially when they’re gay – that makes folks feel better. I choose to believe it’s as reported – Sesame Workshop did an investigation, found no wrong doing, the accuser still intent on hitting pay dirt took it to the press, Sesame Workshop and/or Clash showed proof the relationship started when accuser was an adult, the accuser backed off. Neither one of us can prove the side we choose to believe, but I’d rather not assume something is true based on hearsay, rumor, gossip and the words of a jilted lover.

          • DeBaliviere

“Sesame Workshop did an investigation” That’s funny, I don’t care who you are. Who led it? Count von Count? When will the results that exonerated Clash be released? Never, because they don’t exist. A person of integrity would have released that info to vindicate himself and clear his name. All Clash is saying is that he doesn’t want to talk about it any more. That’s odd. BTW, I choose to believe what I believe based on the facts and pattern of behaviors exhibited. As I stated earlier–and you ignored–I don’t have a dog in this catfight. And I’m not sufficiently naive to believe gay men don’t prey on boys (see Michael Jackson, John Wayne Gacy, Jerry Sandusky, et. al.)

    • JannyMae

Random? Clash admitted he had sex with this guy. The debatable point was whether he was underage at the time. I smell a payoff.

  • Achinacres

ahhh….but it still explains why Elmo is so happy to have a hand up his ass.

    • SpinMeNot

      I just coughed up a lung …

There’s a Jeff Dunham joke in there somewhere …

“That is not hand lotion on the puppet’s ass … *holds out wrists to be cuffed* … ya caught me Skippy … I’ve been making bombs in my garage.”

      • conservativechick

“He wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship,” the statement read. “He will have no further comment on the matter.” AT 16? Still jail bait, sorry. Accuser appears to have been just a bit intimidated, maybe? What a JOKE.

  • Jeff Douglas

We can all be relieved and proud that the idol for multitudes of our children only enjoys inserting his tool of procreation into the bowels of other men who are over 18.

    • el_polacko

but you are good, of course, with the popular pasttime of sticking said tool into the bowels of women who are over 18, right ?

      • conservativechick

That is so not true. Go get some facts for once or do not post!

      • cheeflo

Do you have any understanding of human anatomy at all? One of those things is not like the other.

    • $21367552

Well yes, you can be relieved. They are consenting adults and he didn’t tell children where he likes to insert his tool of procreation. It was right wing websites like this one that took the word of an anonymous accuser and were obsessed with where he likes to insert his tool of procreation behind closed door. By the way can we stop being pretentious asses and just call it a penis or a dick instead of a “tool of procreation” now?

      • TocksNedlog

What we can do is agree that YOU are a “tool” of procreation. For instance, the accuser is only “anonymous” to the general public; Clash and Sesame Street know exactly who he is. Also, are you planning to slam those OTHER “right wing websites” — for instance, the Associated Press — for reporting this story in the first place?

        • $21367552

Fair enough, I should be slamming mainstream media like AP as well. Considering how damaging allegations of sexual abuse are any media outlet should wait until there is something more substantive than accusations by an anonymous accuser. However, I guarantee that whatever site one goes to, the truly bizarre commenters obsessed with what consenting adults are doing with their private parts are right wing nut jobs like ones this site attracts.

Oh and by the way your insult merits a D-. Only slightly more creative than “I know you are but what am I”. Better luck next time, sweetie.

          • TocksNedlog

And by that same brilliant, unassailable logic, George Zimmerman shouldn’t be talked about AT ALL until or unless he is actually convicted of something — right?

  • SpinMeNot

I’m sorry, in advance for what I am about to type …

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, “Bugger me Elmo”.

    I said I was sorry …

  • Armando

He didn’t start when he was 45 and the boy was 16, but when he was 47 and the boy 18, that makes everything all right.

    • Michelle

Perhaps not, but it makes everything legal. End of story.

      • Leo Ladenson

Really? So you’ve got no problem with the puppet master whose professional attentions are focused on small children and who, by his own admission, engages in sodomy with very young men?

        • Michelle

A young man is not a child. Clash isn’t a pedophile. He is a grown man who had a relationship with a consenting adult. So, no…I don’t make the connection between his personal and professional life. However, if you want to make it an issue that a gay man is the voice of a puppet for a children’s show and that bothers you, that’s a whole other conversation. THIS particular story was about him being wrongfully accused of having sex with an underage person.

          • Leo Ladenson

A consenting adult who couldn’t order a whiskey drink in any state of the union. Clash may not be a pedophile, but he’s clearly a ephebophile and shouldn’t be working with children.

          • Michelle

If you have an issue with states’ definitions of “consenting adult” not being equal to their age limit for ordering a drink, take that up with your state lawmakers. Again, this man broke no law and did not have sex with a child. For you to continue being bent about it, you either have an issue with gay men and/or a 40-something yr old having a relationship with a consenting adult half his age. Neither of which put any child in danger. Clearly you simply have an ax to grind.

          • Leo Ladenson

You don’t have children, do you?

          • Michelle

OMG you totally nailed it! Just because I don’t see an adult person having a relationship with a younger adult person as being a threat to the safety and well being of children, that sooooooo totally must mean I have no children. Bingo. You sly dog, you! Whatafknidiot.

          • Leo Ladenson

Your lack of alarm at a middle-aged man preying on adolescent and post-adolescent young men speaks volumes. As does your gullible acceptance of the recantation. You’ll notice that the recantation came through a lawyer and with no apology. Why doesn’t Clash sue the accuser into oblivion for defamation–surely his reputation is ruined? The reason, as almost everyone else on this board has noted, is that there was clearly a settlement for Clash’s misconduct, which comes with confidentiality all around. So why don’t you hop on your broom and take yourself and your flying monkeys back to your fantasy land.

          • Michelle

This just keeps getting better – he’s preying on pre-adolescent men? 18 isn’t pre-adolescent. I’m awful sorry it doesn’t sit well with you that I don’t see things from your point of view. And shocking, out comes the ad hom attacks because I don’t agree with you. I’m glad I’m a person who is able to give the benefit of the doubt instead of believing any ole accusation that isn’t substantiated. Your decision to get rude and personal has ended our discussion, and you may have the last word. Something tells me you aren’t happy unless you have the last word and I want you to be happy.

          • AMSilver

Of course it gets better when you can change what the person on the other side said. ‘adolescent and post-adolescent’ is what the other person typed and yet somehow that becomes ‘pre-adolescent’ to you? And given that Clash admitted to a sexual relationship with the boy at the age of 18, we aren’t talking about unsubstantiated accusations. And someone who goes for impressionable young people less than half their age is someone I wouldn’t want around my children – whether they waited till they were legal or not. The phrase ‘Dirty old man’ seems apropos here.

          • Leo Ladenson

Just to be clear, you used an ad hominem first. I reciprocated. We can all see that you can dish it out, but you can’t take it. Thus endeth the lesson.

  • nytflyr

I wonder how much cash was involved….

    • YeahWeWill

Yeah that went away waaay too quickly!

      • YeahWeWill

Well it looks like the accuser got outed and he’s quite a work of art. Guess he wasn’t a minor, just a guy with a record of robbery and other misc crimes. So glad that “Elmo” is such a good judge of character!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000071288589 Derek Wilson

Well, we all know that Sesame Street makes millions and gets some from Gov, also…

    • DeBaliviere

I was wondering what the market price for a recantation is.

    • ssenecal5000

The accuser’s lawyers met with his lawyers an hour before the recant
TMZ is reporting a 6 figure pay off

  • orringtonmom (D)

    well, hooray.

  • AmandaJeff Day

You can’t spell “molest” without “elmo”

  • papertiger0

Excuse me. But the reports conclusion, from no less an authority than ye ol Sesame Street workshop, is that Elmo was giving the anonymous young man a pickle tickle.

To report that as Man recants on Elmo butt rape is border line lying to protect the guilty.

  • Dane Gunderson

So man who makes living with his fist up Elmo didn’t fist him until he was of age… but his identity will be protected? I guess no cash for you!

  • DeBaliviere

Location: A dimly lit booth in the back of a Hamburger Mary’s

Clash: OK, so here’s the deal. PBS cuts you a check for $100,000 for ‘consulting services’ and you have this law firm–you can claim they represent you–release this statement I’ve prepared. And we will never speak of this again.

    Swish: Thweet!

Clash: Got time for a reach-around? For old times sake?

  • ssenecal5000

Yes, they cut a deal for millions , the accuser has to recant to get the money

  • BeeKaaay

What’s the problem? Its only homosexual activity, right? Leftwingwackos should just celebrate this.
