It is being reported this morning that Kevin Clash, the voice of “Sesame Street’s” Elmo, is taking a leave of absence due to allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy.

More from The Daily Mail:

Kevin Clash, 52, has taken a leave of absence from the popular children’s show after the programme’s lawyers were contacted by a 23-year-old man who claims he had a sexual relationship with the puppeteer seven years ago, when he was aged 16.

TMZ, who reported the allegations, said that Mr Clash had admitted he had a relationship with the man, but only after the accuser was an adult and said the accusations were both false and defamatory.

The accuser met with “Sesame Street” lawyers and reportedly felt like he was being silenced. He is now reportedly being represented by Andreozzi and Associates. That law firm represented one Jerry Sandusky’s victims.

Twitter reacts to the disturbing news.

Uh, yes. Yes it is. If these allegations are true, a 16-year-old child was sexually abused.

Of course, this does remind some of all the Big Bird and Sesame Street nonsense during the presidential campaign.

Some on the Left grossly think people will be happy about these allegations. Because, Romney. And wing nutty haters or something.

Yeah, no. No one is pleased by the sexual abuse of a minor. Well, except for vile Roman Polanski defenders, of course.

Sesame Street has issued a statement.

From Sesame Street Workshop:

Sesame Workshop’s Statement Regarding Kevin Clash

In June of this year, Sesame Workshop received a communication from a then 23 year old man who alleged that he had a relationship beginning when he was 16 years old with Kevin Clash, a Sesame Workshop puppeteer who performs as Elmo.

We took the allegation very seriously and took immediate action. We met with the accuser twice and had repeated communications with him. We met with Kevin, who denied the accusation. We also conducted a thorough investigation and found the allegation of underage conduct to be unsubstantiated. Although this was a personal relationship unrelated to the workplace, our investigation did reveal that Kevin exercised poor judgment and violated company policy regarding internet usage and he was disciplined.
Kevin insists that the allegation of underage conduct is false and defamatory and he is taking actions to protect his reputation. We have granted him a leave of absence to do so.

Elmo is bigger than any one person and will continue to be an integral part of Sesame Street to engage, educate and inspire children around the world, as it has for 40 years.

If the allegations are true, horrible indeed. Twitchy will monitor this situation and update with any developments.

And, trending.

(Well. I always thought BigBird was a brightly-colored, feathered drag queen in big, clunky shoes, but hey, that’s just me. He does have pink and blue eyeshadow on.)

Now that you mention it . . . have we ever seen Big Bird and Elton John in the same room together???

funny how this comes out after the election but then again what do you expect from the obama media, the accusation doesn’t surprise me although i wouldn’t expect anything to come from it even if true considering the one accused is of dark skin color as we all know anyone that makes this accussation is probably just a racist

    • conservativechick

As did every OTHER scandal so far? Unbelievable. Even the outrage and photos of Sandy victims, still suffering. BO won because of the GREAT response to crisis? OK. The media suffered a slow painful death this time around. NO ONE mourns.

This story was brought to you by the letter ‘P’ for Pedophile.

  • AMSilver

It would be great if this were the first step to cleaning out the pedophilia that’s rampant in Hollywood. Talk about a cesspool that needs draining… I think it’s just horrible that the industry gets away with preying on children, but at the same time puts itself up as the arbiters of sexual morality.

  • NirwenElf

I sincerely hope this isn’t true. However, having been 16 once (a VERY long time ago), I’d like to know why older teenagers who are quite capable of adult behavior are now called “children”. I’d have been mad as he11 to be called a child at 16.

    • Liberal Hater

Dude… come on.This is the modern world where you are a child until 27. Get with the program.

      • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

The statutory rape laws need to be updated, then 😀

    • GaryTheBrave

College students are being called children. Of course they would call a 16-yo a child, and legally they would be correct.

  • Joe W.

Gives a new meaning to the “Tickle me, Elmo” meme, does it not?? The perverts are running amok, and the left glorifies them. Sick bass turds…

  • steerpike66

Since when was 16 a child? 16 is the legal age of consent in most places. You can get married, drop out of school and join the army at 16. So you can KILL for your country at 16 but you can’t have sex? Please.. That’s not a little boy and you can’t pretend that it it is just so that you can make yourself feel young. 16 is a biological adult and you are not 20, you’re 40. Stop infantilizing young adults. Most 16-year-olds are having sex of some sort and it doesn’t really matter who with.

    • Andrew

I believe you can’t join the army until 17, and that requires parental permission.

      • steerpike66

Oh look, you’re right. 17. I guess that makes all the difference. Plus many enlistees lied about their age to fight in WWII and you can still marry at 16. The fact remains, if you describe 16 as a child or a little boy, you are seriously distorting reality. From a conservative POV, this is precisely the kind of ‘inner child’, never grow up, self-indulgent, hippy-dippy, Peter Pan nonsense that has kids never getting so much as a summer job until they are 24 and never taking personal responsibility for anything. America was built by hard-working young men, some of them VERY young indeed. I blame the parents: if you still want to play PS3, eat nothing but sugar and read comic books at 40, it’s understandable that you think a 16 year old is a baby, since you are pretty much still a little kid yourself.

  • steerpike66

His parents are 45 and they’re probably still watching Sesame Street and eating Froot Loopz. No wonder they think their teenage son is an ickle baby.

If 16 is a child, half the country are pedophiles.
