Yep. Sad, but true: The boycott insanity is growing. Now businesses are being attacked as racist due to having to lay off workers or cut hours in response to Obamacare. Or, for even just considering it as an option! Financial reality is hard.

New entry into the Handbook for Racial Code Words? Staying in business. You see, if a business dares to do what needs to be done in order to remain in business, it’s totally racist. Or something. Oh, the insidious bigotry of trying to ensure that a business continues to exist. The horror!

The attacks on Papa John’s, whose CEO anticipates a cut in workers’ hours, continue, only now with more race-baiting!

Olive Garden and Red Lobster are under attack as well, for the crime of mulling over the possibility that workers’ hours may need to be cut.

Applebee’s continues to be targeted.

https://twitter.com/19_Cheezzie_80/status/267108211553890305

All businesses that are dealing with the crushing financial realities of Obamacare are under attack and are being painted as racist, natch.

https://twitter.com/SOUTHERNjamespb/status/267107717896892416

Reality is hard. But race-baiting? Super easy for the wilfully ignorant.

Unreal.

It’s not racist to live in reality. President Obama’s crushing policies are the cause of this economic death spiral. You know what is racist, though? Believing that President Obama shouldn’t be held accountable due to the color of his skin. You may as well just pat him on the head, you racist.

Arse-backwards. It is Obama’s policies that are punishing business … and everyone whom they employ. Or, you know, used to employ, after being forced to lay off workers or cut back drastically on their hours in order to remain in business.

Indeed. And, if you really wanted to help, you should have boycotted President Obama at the voting booth. But, you know, keep crying racism. That’s helpful.

  • Libs_R_Wrong

Of course they’re going to hurl cliche epithets. it’s all they have. They’ve already demonstrated a profound ignorance of economics by re-electing Obama in the first place, and show continued ignorance by dreaming up all the wrong motives for anyone who resists or attempts damage control.

Not the America I was born into, over 60 years ago.

You are correct. The quivering and cowardess displayed by the likes of Boehner is disgusting.

    • Kathy

Are you kidding, we are ignorant??? I am an educated woman. Also, you guys have it wrong! We aren’t boycotting them because they are racist, which they MAY be, but because they are greedy bastards who want to raise prices yet cut hours, all in the name of Obamacare. FACT CHECK! Oh, but you guys hate facts. Tell me this, how do they justify raising prices yet also cutting hours so they don’t have to provide healthcare insurance to begin with? And you think WE are ignorant of economics??? Those numbers do not compute. The result is a PROFIT for companies like Papa Johns who will raise prices 15 cents a pizza when it only costs him 3-4 cents a pizza AND he will cut hours so he doesn’t even have to pay the measly 3-4 cents a pizza. That is elementary math!!!! Net result, a profit of 15 cents a pizza. Even if he provided the insurance for his employees he would still make a profit of at least 11 cents a pizza after he raises his prices. So, WHO IS IGNORANT OF ECONOMICS and math NOW????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watch out, your ‘stupid’ is showing!!!!

I’ll be clear about where I stand. I had hoped beyond hope that Obama would have kept his promises. He didn’t. If he continues on the path he’s on, there is no way our country can survive. In all my 60+ years, I have never seen such division, and there’s blame to go around on both sides. I certainly hope I’m wrong. I saw Clinton move more center in his second term and work with the other side. I just don’t see Obama doing that. I don’t hate the guy, I just cannot trust him. There are far too many questions about him, and he’s given no answers to even one single tough question. He just does what he pleases and everyone protects him. • Joe W.

No, Needlenose, but they were hoping for relief in the NEAR FUTURE. Idiot.

    • Kid Liberty

Obamacare doesn’t go in to full effect before 2014. President Romney would have issued waivers to all states after he was sworn in, in 2013, then began working to repeal the bill overall. Now that these businesses know that there is no hope of avoiding this massive increase in costs, they have to start planning ahead. I posted in another thread, about the cost on Papa Johns alone being almost 41 million dollars a year, if they don’t expand at all. The people who voted for Obama didn’t heed the warning, and now they get to reap what they sow, unfortunately, the rest of us also get to reap what they’ve sown.

      • http://twitter.com/DeepTheenker Fishin, Campin Chic

Remember – the Obamacare bill got past the CBO by taxing us for a couple yrs (don’t remember how many yrs) BEFORE it is (fully) implemented.

        • Kid Liberty

And then it got past the Supreme Court by saying it was a tax, after it got past the house and senate and enough of the American People by saying it wasn’t a tax. As this law continues to be implemented, the economic situation will continue to get worse and worse. They are increasing costs on businesses, and lowering demand for their products (by lowering incomes, and levels of workers). This is not how you make a healthy economy, this isn’t even how you make a stagnant economy. This is how you destroy the economy.

        • stuckinIL4now

It was 4 years, from 2010 to implementation in 2014. But it’s 10 years of taxes starting in 2010 until 2020, to pay for 6 years of coverage, 2014 until 2020. And after that nobody knows.

    • Jeff Coil

No, they were hoping for real change. Obama’s win dashed all hope, so now they must do what they were trying to avoid.

    • WisconsinPatriot

You are really uppin the bar on stupid this evening. A president cannot repeal something the congress enacts. He can however sign all relevant bills de-funding the legislation and prevent its implementation. There are classes you can take to improve your understanding of both business and the function of government.

    • Kathy

Are you kidding! I am fully aware that I will have to pay a little more so others can be covered. We ‘socialist Liberals’ all get that! But, it is the right thing to do! I grew up in a family below the poverty line who NEVER took any entitlements! No handouts!!! God forbid you ever are poor, with no access to healthcare insurance, and get cancer! You better just give your soul over to God and be done with it because there will be NO treatment for you! Can’t pay, sorry. No insurance, can’t help you! And, how is sharing the cost of Obamacare any different than me having to pay more when I go to the Emergency Room because so many people, those without insurance, are using it for a free clinic?!! Oh wait, it will be different because people can get preventative care and avoid costly procedures and medications for conditions that would otherwise have become chronic! Pay now or pay later. Either way, you pay! At least this way people will have to kick in some money, which will be a sliding scale, to pay their own way! That seems so very “Republican” to me, (fiscal responsibility) asking people to pay their own way. We are already paying for the healthcare of others! As an RN, I know for a fact that preventative care is MUCH cheaper than waiting until people are chronically ill. Talk about not being able to connect the dots! It is you who is not able to connect the dots. You seem very uninformed and uneducated. If I’ve used too many big words I apologize. LMAO!

    • Kathy

Wow, you will support these companies??? Don’t you realize that 3-4 cents a pizza, as in the case of Papa John’s, is NOTHING to millionaires like that? You think they are laying off employees because of Obama? No, they are making a political statement. Hurting hard working people who only make minimum wage as a way to throw a tantrum because they didn’t get what they want. You should really do more reading and find out what is really going on. I’m sure you mean well, but your heart is in the wrong place. Have you ever been poor and had to work for minimum wage, having NO access to healthcare. I have when I was putting MYSELF through college! If so, how would you feel if you worked for a huge corporation, who made a PROFIT of 55 million dollars a year, and couldn’t absorb the cost of 3.4 cents a pizza to cover you on insurance??? And, don’t you think most people would be just fine with paying an extra 4 cents a pizza so that everyone could have insurance? I wouldn’t even think twice about it. You think you are not already paying the share of those who can’t pay when you go to the Emergency Room? Why do you think that Ibuprofen costs so much??? Or that bandage??? It is because so many have never paid for theirs. The cost gets passed on to those who can pay. Economics 101! So, I’d rather pay a little more for products and services to have a healthier country. I’m an RN who also spent 4 years in college for a degree in Business. Trust me, you pay either way! You have obviously been brain washed by the likes of Fox news.

      • Yomama

Your assumption in your last sentence was unfortunate. And your economics lesson fell short, dearie. You assume these companies are “throwing tantrums”?? You know NOTHING about business. I work in the medical field. I see 1000’s of those who “never pay for anything” because they don’t HAVE to. Whether you have been brain washed by the liberals, I would not assume such a thing, or perhaps you have rose-colored glasses permanently affixed to your face. Dunno.

But your comments about those MILLIONAIRES and their PROFIT gives a clue to whom you hold contempt over the state of our country. All the while, you probably feel we should all make a “fair playing field” for those poor little losers who have been sucking at the government’s tit all their lives and have no plans to be weaned. I see them every day, and if they ever go back to earning their own living, it will be kicking and screaming! The liberal agenda has created their drug of choice for the freeloaders… that would be those who do NOT fit into “genuinely needy or disabled”… and there are MULTITUDES of them in this country.

So it’s nice that you got all your schooling… but it means really very little unless you’ve actually put it to use holding together a business, making a payroll and having others who depend on you for their livelihood. I’ve never been to college, but I’m 60+ and have my own business and I am a JOB CREATOR. As for the Fox news comment… well, you just let everyone see your ignorance. I can actually watch ANY new show and decide for myself where the truth lies. Anyone who thinks Fox is one-sided has obviously swallowed the talking point and hasn’t spent any time checking it out. Too bad.

    • http://twitter.com/gundeck1 Robert Gunnels

Amen. This is incredible. Business owners aren’t racist. They all want to make money because they have assumed all the risk. The cost of Obamacare is insane. It will close thousands of businesses. The only way to survive is the cut hours of employees to under 28 hours per week. The people who reelected this president caused this. Not the business owners.

They can Boycott Boeing as well – better not get on an airline that flies a Boeing product. Lockheed-Martin too, except they are just defense…who needs that? If a prog wants a cardiac pacemaker…sorry, Boston Scientific and St. Jude Medical laid off. How about an implantable glucose sensor or implantable insulin pump from Medtronic? Sorry, better not – they laid off too – obviously because they are racist and doing it out of spite. It is bad enough that Hussein won the election, but for these progressive morons to start bitching about the outcome and results of his win is utterly disgusting. Oh, and I was one of the “Obama lay-offs” – the medical practice I work for has decided to disband and simply go to work for the hospital due to the complexity of Obamacare. Not their fault – I advised them to do it. The fun part is that I get to fire the employees prior to picking up my last check (and for progressives out there – that was deep sarcasm – there isn’t a person in business that enjoys firing people – that is some kind of myth. Given the liberal lack of comprehension for mathematics and even the most basic cause/effect problems I figured I needed to explain).

    • redheadgrl

Sorry Jimmy. I hope you’ll be able to find something quickly. A lot of software companies in healthcare are hiring b/c the hospitals are having to buy so many programs to be in compliance.

    • Yomama

I work in medical field also. I subcontract transcription, but now the large hospital I contract with is considering sending my work to China or India, thanks to Obamacare. They have doctors who do the work for 1/4 of the price. Of course, the quality is awful, so patients’ records will be severely compromised. Advise you monitor your medical records after they’ve been sent to third-world countries, along with all your personal information. They don’t have to comply with HIPAA laws there.

      • http://sstofflet.wordpress.com sstofflet

Shipping medical transcription overseas? Really? That, in itself, is a violation of HIPAA laws.

        • Yomama

Actually it goes on every single day, has for years. Check out the companies online in India, Pakistan, China, etc. I know because I worked for a hospital that shipped it there. And HIPAA can’t or won’t do a thing about it. Sad, huh? Also, now many transcription services will clearly say on their web sites “we do all work in the U.S.A.”. This is because of the extremely poor quality work.

Shipping jobs to China was probably going to happen anyway. It’s just part of how ‘big business’ does business. It is sad. They want to have someone to blame it on and Obama just looks really good to them, as a scapegoat, right now.

Sorry to hear this Jimmy. The left who voted him in will be clueless up to the day of collapse and they will still be screaming it’s racist and someone else’s fault. It is astounding how deep the ignorance goes.

Libs are always saying Repubs are the party of “old rich white guys”, so perhaps it was racist to fund obamacare by raising the taxes, regulations, fees and fines of the “old rich white guys” party.

  • riddler1620

Next liberals will try to pass laws that will make it illegal for employers to fire employees and our unemployment numbers will truly begin to emulate Western European rates.

    • Ariadnea

Actually, your government in trying to portray a better economy, counted your unemployment just the way they apply logic ( Pretzel like). US real unemployment is actually double, if not more than what’s posted.

    • Croaking Toad

You jest, but in France, it is very difficult to fire or lay people off … of course, France is still falling apart.

I am so sick of Liberals and the stupid over used word “Racism,Racist”, Liberals need to now get over it, they voted for this and now they own it. Because of Obamacare employees are now classified as full time at 35 hrs., but because of the TAXING!! regulations going into effect businesses now have to tighten their belts. Obamacare is not just a healthcare bill, it’s a giant regulation bill covering everything. So stop using the word “Racism, Racist” because now you own it, reap what you sow.

  • meindc

WTF???? What is wrong with these people? They act like a cult. Is this what Obama has done for our country? He’s created an army of Obama zombies. These are probably the poor kids who live in their parents basement with nothing else to do because they’re unemployed. They need to ask themselves why they’re where they are. Think Obama might have something to do with it?

  • dbe451

in a truly free country it would be up to the person on how or if they acquire health insurance. Whether it be by gaining employment with a company that provides those benefits or other means on their own.

Of course no one called it racist when democrats were telling everyone how minority votes were being supressed by voter ID laws. I guess only us whites know how to obtain a valid photo ID for voting.

  • disqus_BZL1xg2lX0

  • stellatruman

who cares if they boycott ? soon their expendable income will disappear and unless food stamps are accepted , they will be forced to stay home and eat there

  • Stevepvb

All you liberal business “experts” — the layoffs are not because Obama won. The layoffs are due to no chance to repeal Obamacare and the huge costs that will be imposed. When costs go up a business needs to respond. Health care, utilities, insurances, taxes, etc. — it doesn’t matter. Cost increases lead to cutbacks within the business and higher prices for the customers.

So maybe you can say the layoffs are because Obama was elected and the guaranteed hostile business climate he brings.

    • redheadgrl

Exactly right. Businesses had developed 2 plans for 2013, depending on who won the election. Mr. Obama, plan A, Mr. Romney, plan B. They have no choice now than to go with plan A, which will mean cuts across the board, starting with employees.

It should be against the law to be this stupid. I love Applebys, Papa Johns is decent pizza but sadly unavailable in my area. The last time I went to an Olive Garden in my area there were only black waitstaff, waiting on ONLY black patrons. We couldn’t even get served. Will not be back because of that and not the business decisions they are currently forced to make. Invitation to BUY-COTT!

  • Maria Seeger

*sigh* I don’t suppose that it occurs to those bright and shining lights who are screaming racist and threatening boycott that the people they’re so concerned about is already uninsured, does it? Nothing changes for them. Since 30 is the new full time, those who have only been working 30 hours are going to have their hours cut back to 20 or 25 or less. Minimum wage workers don’t get benefits. Anyone who has ever worked a low-paying minimum wage job already knows this. This is nothing new.
So, as usual, the Left indulges in empty meaningless symbolic gestures which accomplish nothing. If they think threatening a boycott is going to scare and intimidate those restaurant owners, think again. Besides, Chik-fil-A has already proven that boycotting a business for political reasons is ineffective.

So, companies try to stay alive and now libtards want to BOYCOTT said companies. If the Boycotts work, the companies fold and ALL of the employees will lose their jobs. Brilliant! If it weren’t so sad, it would be funny. Anyone with half of a brain understands that race has absolutely nothing to do with it. It’s about survival. My heart goes out to all those who have been laid off or are about to be. Unlike the U.S. Government, business owners cannot print more money when they run out. When they’re out of money, they close. End of story. No more jobs…for anybody. Equating that with racism is just evil and truly ignorant.

Liberals or Obama Lovers obviously can’t add or subtract so they blame racism for the layoffs. It’s the same story over and over, they always blame racism when they have no argument. Americans are tired of the racism claim when blacks are more racists than whites. Ask them what they say behind closed doors about Mexicans, Asians and Whites. They’re just disappointed that yelling racism no longer is a valid argument. They were all asleep during Business Math 101 and they’ll still blame racism.

  • http://twitter.com/dialville Elizabeth Burtch

Intelligent Americans know that Obama was elected by those who want something for nothing and they elected him because he is black and for that simple reason only (the gang mentality at work). It doesn’t matter that he hasn’t passed a budget, his policies have failed, he allowed Americans to die in Libya, he is not a US citizen, catered to the illegal immigrants for votes, and rigged the voting booths. Typical Gang Mentality and lack of values. It doesn’t matter how Obama wins just as long as he drags you through the mud ( using the most petty means) and brings the whole country down in the process.

Amazing how little of the English language it appears the majority of respondents of this article have. I would say “go back to school” but they this is probably all they have learned in public schools that past 30 years. Most would not even know how to look up the definition in a dictionary of the word “racist” let alone comprehend the meaning.
Someday you will wake up and wonder why you can’t get or keep a decent paying job without government assistance or should I say government control of your life.

  • Juan_Rico

My friend who is GM of a local Pizza Hut told me a couple of months ago they were going to have to cut all their employees down to less then 30 hours a week or be forced to make them pay a $600 a month insurance premium since they have to offer the employees the same plan offered to management (that’s what he pays), or they could pay the fine for not buying insurance (like $900). Most of his employees work 35-40 hours a week minimum and only make around $8/hr, so losing five or ten hours each week is a big deal when you aren’t getting paid all that much in the first place.

In other words, Pizza Hut has the same thing going on as Papa Johns, but I haven’t heard anything about them in the press like this. Then again, Pizza Hut, along with Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver and some others, is owned by Pepsico, which is, of course, a big Obama donor. Don’t hold your breath waiting for these stories to come out about Pizza Hut.

Thank God you do NOT represent ALL people of color. You fit into the basest level of intelligence and reasoning which comes from your gut-filled hatred of all who you perceive to be your enemies. What you are about has nothing to do with “building” a country, but only to fulfill your own selfish desires and pound your chest with pathetic manufactured indignity. You, sir, are nothing more than an angry, spoiled man/child who wants to bully the white boys because it makes you feel superior. Guess what? God designed all of our hearts the same color. And He gave us a choice of what we choose to put into our hearts. You have chosen hate and being a victim. That’s on you… you own that. And as for your rantings on here? You don’t intimidate anyone. We know you do NOT speak for all people of color. I have some “free” advice for you: If you think your president has “got your back”… you are most sorely mistaken. He is subtly and stealthily selling you out and you won’t even know it’s coming… and the free stuff? POOF!

  • christopher swift

So they will protest layoffs by boycotting, thus reducing employment even further. Nobody ever said lefties were smart.
As for fear, well, yeah, there is fear, but it’s not directed at minority voters. See, the government is about to run out of money – we’ll see what your saint obozo does then.

  • RogueMouser

You all misunderstand the accusation, because those making it are calling you racist without explaining their reasoning, and you are left to assume (correctly, given the context in which they scream the word at you) that they think you’re doing it because the president is black. And maybe there are one or two dozen in the coutry who are, but they would be the extreme minority. But a few loudmouths have said it, so it becomes a convenient epithet to throw around.

I’m a progressive independent, and I can tell you that I know there is no racism in doing what you must to keep your business open and your family fed. In order to help defuse some of the political hatred, blaming and namecalling, I’m asking you to consider that what they actually mean to say is that the amount of hatred and blame laid against this president is far, far more than any president in the history of this nation has experienced before. Abd we see in the news on an almost daily basis photos of people at conservative events wearing shirts that say “Put the white back in the white house,” and not a single Republican or conservative voice is heard speaking out against it, so they infer guilt through compliance. No other president has ever faced a Senate who said on the day of their innauguration that its top priority was to make him a one term president. And all of this before he had a chance to prove to us what kind of president he’d be.

And he is our nation’s first black president.

So they jump to conclusions and call it racist, and all the hatred and all the blame that we see here and all over the nation only seems to prove them right. But they are wrong.

You are not responding to his race. You are responding to what you see as threatening economic policies.

What you are doing is putting profit before people. And I understand that, too. Your business must profit in order to survive, and you must maximize those profits now, because tomorrow sales and revenue might drop, and you need to be sure you can get through the low points.

But so too do the rest of us need to get through the low points. And let’s face it, wages are not keeping up with expenses. Where I live, a person making $8.00 an hour has to work 80 hours just to pay his rent. Add in utilities andfood, and that person has nothing left. No money for training, or for education, or to save for a future. And not everyone has parents tht are able to lend them money. And Obama wants those people to have a fair chance at a better life, and you all say “It’s not my problem, it’s not my responsibility, and if you want me to pay for it you’re a socialist, you’re just like Hitler.” But the reality is you’re going to pay for it, either in higher taxes or in higher wages. Because the new generation of progressives is not lazy. It’s angry, and it isn’t going to take the “Shut up and do your job” mentality any longer. They want a fair shot at a better life, they want the rights that our fouders declared inalienable, the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and they know that these depend partly on a paycheck, but not entirely, that the measure of a nation’s worth is not in its wealth, but in its people.

They want the American dream, in which a poor inner city child has the same opportunities as the son or daughter of a wealthy wall street banker. But that world no longer exists, because now everything depends on how many zeroes come before the dot on your paycheck, and they paychecks aren’t keeping up with prices.

Now you’ll say it’s Obama’s fault, but this started before the Big Crash, before the election of 2008, before even the second term of George W. Bush (who, I must say, I also do not blame for things as they are today. The president’s impact on business is very small, when the true power lies with the opposing House of Representatives. The president cannot make laws, cannot set economic policy. That is, per the Constitution, the sole purview of Congress.)

And so they call you racist, because they don’t know the right word to use, and this president is our first black president, and you all talk about how much you hate him.

That’s why they call you racist. That, and they feel the need to respond to your calls of “libtard” and the lazy unwashed masses who only want to take.

All we want is a fair chance. The one America promised us long ago, the same one you had. But you were born into privilege, or had parents who could lend you money, or a collateral to put up to the bank. And that inner city youth has none of that, and no one’s giving credit, so he works at the local convenience store because it’s the only job he can get, and he barely makes enough to survive, let alone get ahead, and he works fifty hours a week, and he’s the one you’re calling lazy.

That’s why they call you racist.

But I don’t. I know how business works. I just think that some of you have forgotten where you came from, and some of you have never known economic struggle, and some of you have gotten a bit Scooge-ish and some of you honestly just don’t care, and a lot of you really are worried about feeding your families AND those of your employees, and are good, honest people doing the best they can in a difficult world.

I just want you to take a moment to consider things from a different point of view. A bit less saber rattling and a little more understanding. Not to change your mind, not to convince you that you’re wrong, because you’re not, but take a moment to see that at the base of thigs, where to them you appear racist and evil, you are not, so too as they appear parasitic and lazy, they are not. They do not hate your wealth. They hate that profit has been placed above the greater good, those unalienable right to life (and without healthcare, there can be no life), liberty (which includes freedom from economic servitude, being dependent on another for one’s health and well being) and the pursuit of happiness (which, for many Americans, involves time with family and friends, not having to work two jobs to make ends meet.)

Consider things from that view. Only for a moment. Then go back to what you must do to feed your families, and those of your emplyees, maybe with a little more compassion and understanding.

A thoughtful, respectful post from a progressive perspective. But here’s the deal. If a person is only able to work at Papa John’s for $8/hour, THAT PERSON is limiting his/her own freedom to pursue his dreams. It’s not the owner of Papa John’s that is limiting this person’s ability to obtain a more comfortable life.

We make CHOICES in life. If you have one or two children before you can even afford your own bills, that’s not the employer’s fault that you have dug yourself a deep financial hole. Opportunity abounds for those who choose to pursue it. Many of us started working at places like Papa John’s, but it was a means to an end. So we absolutely DO remember what it was like. But that doesn’t make it OUR responsibility to pay employees $12/hour or $15/hour or whatever you think is a “fair” wage. Unless the public is willing to pay $25 for a small pizza, which I doubt. Something has to give. If I don’t place profit as a top priority, my business ceases to exist; so then, what’s the point when no one can be employed?

      • RogueMouser

I agree, Glenn. But what about the person who can only work at that rate because it’s the only job in town? No, it’s not HIS employer’s fault, it’s not any one employer’s fault. But to assume that every person in the country has equal opportunity simply because you believe everyone has a choice of where he or she lives and works is just as unrealistic as those who do, in fact, want something for nothing. And there are a lot of those who want something for nothing. But I see on these pages that the people here are saying evryone who doesn’t see things their way is a lazy whining freeloader. And I want you all to understand that that is NOT true. Most of us just want a fair chance. ANd I stand by my example. And inner city young adult is very limited in his or her employment opportunities. I’m not saying that’s your fault, or that of anyone here. But it’s reality. They can’t make enough to pay their own bills even as a single person, and they don’t make enough to move someplace where there is better employment. So in order to have the same chance as you did in bettering your life, there has to be some kind of equalizer. I think that should be education, but that’s just my opinion, and many people have many opinions on the matter.

It’s not your responsibility to make sure that your employees have everything they want. But if you don’t pay them enough that they have everything they *need*, how can they perform at their best for your company?

But this really isn’t about what you pay them. It’s more about you paying them what you feel comfortable paying them AND trying to stop the government from trying to help fill in the gap. It’s about you objecting to the government trying to provide the healthcare that you honestly can’t afford to provide, because you think that wanting to be able to see a doctor when you’re sick is equal to wanting everything for free, about you thinking that wanting the chance at a better life means being a freeloader.

I’m asking you to put aside your hatred and derision for a moment. Yes, some of you do remember where you came from. And some of you don’t. Some of you are arrogant assholes who don’t care about your fellow man. And some liberals and progressives ARE freeloading lazy patheic subhuman wretches.

But that doesn’t change the reality that in the city I live in, the biggest city in the state for almost two hundred miles, unemployment has never been below 9%, the average pay is $8.75 an hour, the lowest rent in town is $600 and rising, gas prices have been going steadily up since the middle of the last decade, which drives food prices up. You all on this page claim to be better at math and economics than progressives and liberals (and I have absolutely no doubt that every last one of you is better at math than I am). Surely you can see that without the assistance the government provides, many people really are trapped. We’re told not to start our adult lives in debt, but we have to take loans to go to college, and education funding is being cut at the insistence of, yes, you, the people who claim we all have an equal chance, or work in a field we’re not happy with. You say it’s all about personal chooice, and as I’vesaid, a lot of it is. But to say that’s the entire problem is just as unrealistsic as those who really do want to redistribut your hard earned money.

I’m a freelance programmer and web developer. I don’t make a lot of money, because I’m really, really bad at people AND at business, and because it’s in my nature to say “Pay me whateve you can afford,” which everyone here knows is really bad business practice. I don’t get any government help, nor do I want it, because there are people who need it more than I do. I’m self-taught, and I work really, really hard just to keep up with the technology. So I know about hard work and personal choice. But not everyone is as motivated as I am to work at something for little profit (I do it because I love it), and not everyone has parents to rely on, and in the end what most people want is just food, shelter and health. And if a person is working hard at their job, why should that person not be allowed those basic human needs?

See, the real problem is misunderstanding. You are seen as cold, uncaring assholes, and most of you aren’t. You see the other side as lazy freeloaders because they need government help. But every single person I know who does need government assistance hates getting it. Every one of them wants to be independent. No one I know likes needing anything they can’t provide themselves. But rent keeps going up, and prices keep going up, and pay isn’t going up, and people need to eat, and have homes, and be healthy.

The truth is in the middle. If you make over a million dollars a year, raising your taxes won’t do a damn thing to help this nations economy, because there aren’t many in your income range, compared ot the rest of the nation. But the people you’re calling lazy freeloaders are paying taxes, too. It’s not 47% who want something for nothing. It’s more like 10%. It’s the other 37% that I’m speaking for … the one’s you’re lumping in with the worst of humanity, the people who really are workingn hard and still can’t make ends meet. ANd it’s not your job to help them. But if you won’t, then the government must.

My wife brought something to my attention, regarding the accusations of racism. She said “There’s a difference between saying that if Obama is re-elected, his policies will force me to lay people off, which is a statement on policy, and saying If Obama is re-elected I’m going to fire people, which comes off more like extortion, more like “If you vote for Obama you’re fired. I don’t know if it was the Papa Johns owner who said that last, but I do recall someone saying exactly that, that if Obama gets re-elected, he was going to fire people.

        • SDN

And that’s logical. If you voted for Obama and his policies, you should suffer the consequences before those of us who know better.

    • mike_in_kosovo

No other president has ever faced a Senate who said on the day of their innauguration that its top priority was to make him a one term president.

McConnell’s comment was made on 23 Oct 2010.

Perhaps you’ve confused it with Obama’s “I won” comment to Republicans on 23 Jan 2009?

      • Yomama

Thank you for clarifying that point. Amazing how these kind of things make such convenient excuses for a president who did more to divide this country than any president in our history. The blindness only deepens… until the “free stuff” runs out… then they will turn on each other. It’s history. It doesn’t change. Obama’s rhetoric is so very, very different from his play book. I really don’t like being right about this, it’s a very sad state of affairs for our country.

So the Democrats should boycott flipping on lights and using the computers because of the coal fired plants that use the coal from mining companies that are laying off people because of Obama

George McGovern was one of the most liberal
persons who ever ran for the Presidency. In 1992, twenty years after
his failed Presidential bid, he wrote a piece for the Wall Street
Journal which reflected an epiphany regarding the difficulty in running a
business under the heavy hand of government regulation. This, after he
bought a business in 1988 which ended in bankruptcy.

My own business perspective has been limited to that small hotel and
restaurant in Stratford, Conn., with an especially difficult lease and a
severe recession. But my business associates and I also lived with
federal, state and local rules that were all passed with the objective
of helping employees, protecting the environment, raising tax dollars
for schools, protecting our customers from fire hazards, etc. While I
never have doubted the worthiness of any of these goals, the concept
that most often eludes legislators is: “Can we make consumers pay the
higher prices for the increased operating costs that accompany public
regulation and government reporting requirements with reams of red
tape.” It is a simple concern that is nonetheless often ignored by
    legislators.

Our Connecticut hotel, along with many others, went bankrupt for a
variety of reasons, the general economy in the Northeast being a
significant cause. But that reason masks the variety of other challenges
we faced that drive operating costs and financing charges beyond what a
    small business can handle.

In retrospect, I wish I had known more about the hazards and
difficulties of such a business, especially during a recession of the
kind that hit New England just as I was acquiring the inn’s 43-year
leasehold. I also wish that during the years I was in public office, I
had had this firsthand experience about the difficulties business people
face every day. That knowledge would have made me a better U.S. senator
and a more understanding presidential contender.

In short, “one-size-fits-all” rules for business ignore the reality of
the marketplace. And setting thresholds for regulatory guidelines at
    artificial levels — e.g., 50 employees or more, $500,000 in sales —
takes no account of other realities, such as profit margins, labor
intensive vs. capital intensive businesses, and local market economics.

I managed fast food during the hell that was the Carter years. Our company cut all hourly workers to part-time, froze wages, and switched to automated kitchen equipment in order to cut back on the number of employees. We also cut back on HVAC, delayed capital investments such as remodeling, and prices skyrocketed. (Remember $.15 coffee and $.25 burgers? I do. By the end to the ’70s, burgers were selling for more than a dollar. Something we didn’t think was possible.) Who knew we were racist against Jimmy Carter?

  • HappyHarriett

Please, someone – help me out here.

A business is required to offer a government program to all employees who work – what is it? – 30 hours a week? And if that business complies, that business will not be able to stay IN business, so that business cuts hours to 28 hours a week, for example, so that the employees can KEEP THEIR JOBS (even at reduced hours) and the business can continue to function.

And this is Obamacare implementation, and now law of the land, because Romney would have repealed this atrocity “day one”!

So these people are going to boycott a business that is going to KEEP employing people and is going to STAY IN business? And they are going to boycott a business that would otherwise GO OUT OF BUSINESS if they continued to employ people for 30+ hours a week?

Will someone smarter than me tell me what insane asylum I’m living in, please?

  • Jedd McHead

    a) What the hell ISN’T racism to libtards? and b) it goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway, “liberalism is a mental disorder”.

    • KN

Liberals scream racism as much, if not more, than muslims scream they’re offended.

  • KN

Hey you Libs complaining about Papa Johns cutting hours. Here is a
solution – keep ordering and when it’s delivered give the driver a 50%
tip or $20.00 which ever is greater to help cover his lost hours.
Problem solved and you’re using YOUR money. It ought to make you feel
all warm and fuzzy. Oh wait… I forgot Libs are great at spending
other peoples money – as to using their own .. not so much.

  • michael s

Papa John’s Applebees Red Lobster and Olive Garden I believe are usung Obamacare to fire employees. I fail to see how this would be so hurtful to companies that gross 9 and 10 figures . If they’re practicing racism then they deserve boycotts.

    • SDN

It’s called accounting 101, dumbass. Gross can be whatever you like, but if the expenses (like the cost of health insurance, or environmental regs) are greater than the gross, the company will fail. #MathIsHard

  • aimsters

Boy the liberals are still made even after they got their dictator elected. lol Slamming Pa Pa Johns and all other businesses because they are smart enough to know whats right and wrong. But then how would these haters who comment on here know that. 90% or whatever who voted for the prez never worked a day in their life and the tax payers are taking care of them yet still angry. I am sure that the hateful liberals on this page never said a bad thing about any of this businesses until they found out they oppose Obamacare.

  • G C D

Apparently, some people seem to be under the delusion that a business exists to create jobs. No, a business exists to create and enjoy a profit. You can call that sinful, un-American, immoral, greedy. I really don’t care. But when YOU start putting in the hours of a business owner, and dealing with the stress, the liability, the time away from family and fun, and all of a sudden your profit margin drops precipitously because your President and legislators expect you to pay for everyone else’s health care, welfare, housing, cell phones…………then you might have a different perspective. The business owners are doing what business owners do……….make decisions that enable their business to survive and thrive. You can boycott us, call us names, whatever makes you feel better. But it doesn’t change a thing. And you can cry all the way to 10% unemployment. You voted for this.

  • Maurizme

As long as our tyrannous government demands that companies bow to their demands, then they have to expect that people will do what they need to in order to keep their business operable. Everyone saw this coming – at least, the thinking people did.

Amazing how even after “winning” (I use that term loosely), these bitter little morons still throw pitch fits. They need to get used to the reality of an Obama economy, they voted for it. This one’s on them.

These are the same morons who can’t figure out why Corporations have free speech rights. How fast would the CEO’s of each of these companies be out on their arses for sabotaging their own businesses to make a point AFTER the election? The CEO’s are beholden to the stock holders and legally obligated to use the best practices they can to make a profit. When all of the employees are laid off because the business goes under will the liberal (un)intelligencia get it then? Doubt it.

OMG!!! Are those comments above for real?? Racist because of the costs of Obamacare … Are you kidding me? Where do these people come up with this stuff?

  • Croaking Toad

No, all libertards should boycott all business … then they can stay at home and I don’t have to tolerate their presence when I’m eating. :) The racist chant these days has lost meaning … it’s just something bad policy hides behind.

  • Croaking Toad

I just smile and not when I’m called a racist. In the US, the word has lost it’s meaning. Most of the libertards boycotting are probably doing so because the don’t have the cash to use the said business. Bad policy and ignorance hides behind the shouts of racism.

  • Black Dynamite

Some of my best friends are white and while I’ve met many rich white people I can assure you that NONE of them ARE RACIST!

  • Kathy

Racism has NOTHING to do with why I am boycotting these companies! I don’t think they are racist, just greedy. I am boycotting them because of their response to the ACA. HUGE profits yet they can’t provide their employees with healthcare? And, raising prices AND cutting hours so they don’t have to provide Obamacare??? THAT is why I’m boycotting these places. I will switch to small, locally owned restaurants. And my family eats out A LOT!

  • Kathy

Wow, the people responding to this are beyond help! We (my friends and family) aren’t boycotting them because they are racist, which they MAY be, but because they are greedy bastards who want to raise prices yet cut hours, all in the name of Obamacare. FACT CHECK! Oh, but you guys hate facts. Tell me this, how do they justify raising prices yet also cutting hours so they don’t have to provide healthcare insurance to begin with? The numbers do not compute. The result is a PROFIT for companies like Papa Johns who will raise prices 15 cents a pizza when it only costs him 3-4 cents a pizza to provide Obamacare, AND he will cut hours so he doesn’t even have to pay the measly 3-4 cents a pizza. That is elementary math!!!! Net result, a profit of 15 cents a pizza. Even if he provided the insurance for his employees he would still make a profit of at least 11 cents a pizza after he raises his prices. Also, I’d have NO problem paying the 3-4 cents more a pizza so that everyone has health insurance. Again, I use Papa John’s as an example. If Papa Johns, and other companies, would have just come out and told us we had to pay a few more cents per entre to cover the costs they incur as a result of providing their employees with healthcare, this ‘boycott’ and bad publicity wouldn’t exist. It is HOW they did it. This is a political stunt. They are unhappy that Obama won. They KNOW that Obama will make them pay their fare share of taxes! I’m proud he is not going to back down! We are able to see through their BS. I wish the rest of you were too. We all love this country and want what is best. Difference is that ‘we’ also love our countrymen and women. ‘We’ want everyone to have access to healthcare.

Furthermore, have you ever been poor and had to work for minimum wage, having NO access to healthcare. I have when I was putting MYSELF through college! If so, how would you feel if you worked for a huge corporation, who made a PROFIT of 55 MILLION dollars a year, and couldn’t absorb the cost of 3.4 cents a pizza to cover you on insurance??? They GAVE AWAY 28 MILLION dollars worth of pizza to the NFL in 2011 but their employees can’t go to the doctor when they are sick! And, don’t you think most people would be just fine with paying an extra 4 CENTS a pizza so that everyone could have insurance? I wouldn’t even think twice about it, but I have a working heart! You have obviously all been brain washed by the likes of Fox news.
