Seriously. Governor Jindal is still waiting on responses from FEMA and the federal government regarding Hurricane Isaac-related requests.

But, hey, priorities! President Obama is taking questions today. No, not hard-hitting ones from Glamour magazine this time. Today, it’s via Reddit. No, really.

Here is the question thread.

Be careful what you ask for, champ. You may just get it. And get it he does; Twitter users respond and ask the questions that the press refuse to ask.

And, everything Obama touches turns to fail.

Oh, dear.

And, enter #ObamaAnswersOnReddit

Keep them coming, Twitter. Hey, he asked for it. And you know the lapdogs aren’t doing their jobs.

#headdesk You did just make that stuff up; his answer read “I’m a Bulls guy.”

He just forgot to add the ‘Hit’ on the end of ‘Bulls’.

Obama’s standard response should be the one Ralph Kramden use to give when stuck for an answer: HAMA NA HAMA NA ERR!?!

There is a nationwide stench of desperation emanating from the Obama campaign. He was on the same college campus as I was awhile ago. They were trying to bribe students to come in with a bit of swag (stickers and buttons and such) and pizza.

Let me tell you! If you cannot entice college students to attend something in exchange for pizza, whatever you’re trying to do is doomed. Doomed!

(CBS News) The National Debt has
now increased more during President Obama’s three years and two months in
office than it did during 8 years of the George W. Bush presidency. The federal
budget sent to Congress last month by Mr. Obama, projects the National Debt
will continue to rise as far as the eye can see. The budget shows the Debt
hitting $16.3 trillion in 2012, $17.5 trillion in 2013 and $25.9 trillion in
2022. If Mr. Obama wins re-election, and his budget projections prove accurate,
the National Debt will top $20 trillion in 2016, the final year of his second
term. That would mean the Debt increased by 87 percent, or $9.34 trillion,
    during his two terms.

    • aaron

Does anyone know why this is? Maybe because the Congressional idiots we have are stating the only way they will approve a budget is to cut spending, but won’t raise taxes anywhere. Anyone knows, there are only 2 ways to balance a budget: increase revenue, decrease spending. To make a compromise, you have to do both, not just one.

      • http://www.facebook.com/kevkrom Kevin Krom

You do realize that raising tax rates lowers tax revenues, right?

        • aaron

          In what world?

          • http://www.facebook.com/kevkrom Kevin Krom

The real one. It usually takes a year or two to fully adjust, but any honest historical look at US federal revenue shows that tax rate cuts lead to increased government revenue, while tax rate increase lead to stagnant or falling revenue.

The phenomenon is usually referred to as the Laffer Curve. Laffer’s theory basically says, at a tax rate of 0%, the government gets no revenue. But it also gets no revenue at a 100% tax rate, because there is no economic activity to tax if the government confiscates all income. At some point, there is a “sweet spot” where the tax rate maximizes revenue. The fact that all modern “tax cuts” (more properly called “tax RATE cuts”) uniformly raise government revenue in the long run simply shows that the federal tax rates are higher than the “sweet spot”.

          • aaron

That sure is looking at it with an “honest” perspective. There is no way that a progressive tax system that allows a millionaire/billionaire to pay a lower rate than someone in the middle class is above the sweet spot. If the TRUE rate was where the “tax rate” currently sits, I might agree with you. But when money can be moved in such a way that taxes are paid at a lower rate, you can’t honestly tell me it’s higher than this sweet spot. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the law of diminishing returns as well, but 14 percent for someone like Romney while us “common folk” pay 26 as a real rate… Something needs to change If you want to skip a “tax rate increase” for loop holes closing for the rich, that is all I ask for. But the likelihood of that happening is the same as the Cubs winning the World Series this year. And the probability gets even worse (if that’s possible) if Romney gets in

          • http://www.facebook.com/kevkrom Kevin Krom

Romney pays capital gains taxes, not income taxes. You’re comparing apples to oranges, especially considering that the gains Romney is being taxed on comes from principal that has already been taxed.

That said, I’d be perfectly happy with a single-rate single-stage tax such as a national retail sales tax, or to a lesser degree, a true flat income (and capital gains) tax. Progressive taxes with loopholes, exemptions, credits, incentives, etc., merely invite gaming the system, turning the tax code into a combination of social engineering and a shell game. But that’s the system we have, and I have no problem with anyone seeking to pay the bare minimum they are legally obligated to pay.

          • aaron

The apples to oranges isn’t as much of a difference as it is made out to be. Yes it was taxes at a Corp level but it is still income and not reinvested in the company. If they wanted to take a bigger salary it would benefit the company as a “loss” and then only be taxed once I think we need the progressive tax but don’t like all of the loop holes that benefit rich citizens. The ones who need help should be the only ones with write offs and breaks. I don’t think what Romney did is wrong necessarily but I think it proves the system needs changes and my opinion is that they increase taxes (close loop holes) on top earners

      • shenanniganist

One of the ways you increase revenue is by increasing business activity. Raising taxes acts as a deterrent to investment which means less activity and therefore decreased revenue. Econ 101

        • aaron

Taxing individuals is not the same as businesses. Also, when corporations margins continue to grow and some are able to pay little to no taxes your economics are off.
