In the affluent DC suburb of Potomac, Maryland, 65 people each paid $10,000 (or more) to dine with the president at a fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). The Washington Post In the Loop blog reports:

Monday evening, President Obama had dinner with mega Democratic donors Jeff and Lora Drezner at their sprawling $5 million bungalow on five acres in Potomac, Md. The Drezners gave a combined $100,000 to candidates and political committees in the 2012 campaign cycle.

For the bargain price of $10,000 per person, or $32,400 per couple for VIP status, (that better be some spectacular filet) you could enjoy an “intimate dinner” with special guest Barack Obama, according to the invitation posted by the Sunlight Foundation.

It’s a safe bet that a lot of those in attendence got rich from lucrative federal contracts, so they probably are better off since Obama has been in office. The rest of the country, not so much.

That may have stung Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) whose name has been mentioned as a potential future Speaker of the House. Van Hollen was in attendance according to the invitation along with Pelosi (D-CA) and Congressman Steve Israel (D-NY), Chairman of the DCCC.

According to some tweets from the press, the president focused a lot on telling donors not to worry about the failure of Obamacare or the Benghazi coverup.

Nothing to see here, folks. Your concerns about lower quality care for higher prices aren’t real. Benghazi is just a phony scandal.

Having “real concerns” is only the privilege of the Washington elite.

Mark Levin was critical of Obama’s calendar for Monday. He had one event @ 12:30 p.m. – met with Joe Biden for lunch. Then the next event was the fundraiser this evening – with no other events on the calendar for the day. Mark questioned why he didn’t have a meeting with senior staff about the VA crisis, but didn’t. Also, this past weekend, Obama played 18 holes of golf, while his staff was on the Sunday morning shows talking about how the president was madder than hell about the VA issues, but again, not action, no meetings, etc. this weekend regarding the crisis.

America is in sad shape. America is being led by someone who isn’t a leader. He’s a talker, but that’s where it ends. Action is another story. Certainly action that would benefit Americans in a good way is lacking, while actions that hurts America happens nearly all the time.

What has happened to our beautiful country?

the low information have-not voters realized they could vote themselves freebees from the haves.

      • Carolyn#OYSD

I would really wish people would stop using the “low information” voters moniker. At this point in history, information is quite simply at one’s fingertips. So there is no such thing as a low information voter. There IS such a thing as a low intelligence voter. That is one lacking the drive and will to educate themselves. NOT because the information is not there but because they don’t want to hear it. Which is nothing more than laziness and a willingness to remain ignorant. THE INFORMATION IS THERE.

        • Texan357

          It’s a low-information voter, not a low-information Internet.

          • Carolyn#OYSD

Low information implies that the information is in low/little supply and that simply is not true. The internet makes it EASY but it isn’t the only means by which information can be obtained. Obtaining it only requires an effort.

          • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

I prefer to think of them as having endless information, but choosing to put their fingers in their ears and close their eyes.

          • Carolyn#OYSD

Which one rarely associates with intelligence. 😉

        • Utopia Can Never be Achieved

I think we could also call them a Low Information Individual. Has anyone else also noticed that in the age of “smart” phones and how many people own and utilize one – people are not getting any smarter? Why is this the case?

Take a look at Obama’s schedule everyday. Majority of time schedule doesn’t begin until 10 or 10:30 & is almost always finished long before dinner. Obama also enjoys a 3-day weekend. With a POTUS schedule like this, proof positive he is little more than a Hood Ornament.

      • World B. Free

        BWAAAAAHAHA!!! Hood ornament! Good one!

Except that he wouldn’t be very aerodynamic with those huge floppy ears.

        • videosavant

But he’d represent the ‘hood well.

    • irishgirl91

All he needed to do is get into office once, ideally twice and then give fundraisers and not get impeached. Doing that allowed all the infrastructure that was created by groups like the Tides to come in through the front door. When he leaves he will leave regulations and bureaucracies so deep it will continue to choke this country for decades after he leaves.

    • Suzyqpie

I suggest we change the nomenclature. The Have-Nots are history, thanks to the American taxpayer. We now have the Haves and the Have-Mores.

$10K huh? what’s the matter, they couldn’t get people to pay the previous going rate of $35K a plate? such a bargain.

    • Apostic

Now, now. No reason to excessively flaunt one’s funds.

(’cause that’s evidently the current POTUS’s job.)

      • ked5

kind of a high price for a photograph of a narcissist.

        • Apostic

Well, it’s like Thomas Tusser said: A fool and his money are some party. OK, something like that.

    • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

And the true tragedy is that the Obama footsoldiers in the street who defend every move he makes are defending his right to keep them low on the totem pole, while barking about the 1%/elitists they think the right wingers are.
      Brainwashing is a terrible thing.

  • LegalizeShemp

Come to a dinner full of 1%ers so we can collect lots of money to fight 1%ers and their undue influence on politics. Sounds like what conservatives and Republicans are accused of isn’t it?

  • Maryland_Malcontent

Chris Van Hollen…gotta get that loser out of Congress. Sadly it doesn’t look like he faces a real challenge this November. A made man.

BTW, can anyone explain to me why Dr. Ben Carson is being rumored to be planning a Presidential run with Donald Trump (and why isn’t the Donald following through and running against Cuomo?) and isn’t on the books for running for Congress in MD in either District 7 or 3?

    • Utopia Can Never be Achieved

Mr. Van Hollen, Steny Hoyer, etc. – all need to go. Mr. Hoyer is getting crazier as he grows older. Some of the stuff that come out of his mouth is along the lines of what Reid or Pelosi would say.

      • Maryland_Malcontent

Except for Harris, all of the current MD Congress Critters need to go away. Preferably to prison but I’ll settle for simply “out of politics for life”.

I’m still disappointed that Dr. Carson has decided that tantalizing us with a possible Presidential run in 2 years is more important than fixing the Elijah Cummings/Donna Edwards problem now.

  • Hirogen

Another borderline-criminal precedent set by the corrupt Obama administration…Attending an expensive fund raiser when he should’ve been nuking Benghazi off the face of the earth.

Speaking of low information voters, we really need to get some of the impeachment minded rabid folks to understand that Benghazi is a place and not a person. It’s not Ben Ghazi and he’s not the new head of Al-Qaeda.

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

In other words, Hirogen is really worried about Obamacare’s failure and the Benghazi cover-up… as well as very thin-skinned about criticism of Obama. Deflection is all you have left, isn’t it? How sad.

      “It’s not Ben Ghazi”

Really? The only ones I ever hear use “Ben Ghazi” are whiny, hypocritical liberals who are deeply opposed to accountability. In other words, you.

But hey, thanks for acknowledging that all Obama ever does is attend fundraisers. I don’t know why you thought you were defending Obama by admitting that, but I’m not gonna stop ya from looking like an idiot. That’s a full-time job and while those are quite hard to come by in the Obama economy, I’m afraid there’s just no reward in it.

    • LinTaylor ✓vitrified

So tell me, how large and shiny is the medal Obama gives you from protecting him from us meanie-head conservatives? You know, at the awards ceremony you hold in your imagination every time you post a pithy, toothless, and completely off-the-mark comment like that one.

    • Al’s Annoyed Grandpa

A big swing and a miss!

    • Acethepug

You really are an obtuse, vile little troll, aren’t you?

    • TugboatPhil

That would be YOUR crowd that has no idea where or what Benghazi was about.

    • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

Fundraising is much more fun than presidenting.
I think we need a new position in government: Fundraiser General. It’s one of Obama’s many talents. He & the Mrs. can squeeze money out of people better than tv evangelists. “Max out! Max out!”
With either of them in that position, the government should be in the black in no time.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

So, when Obama was going to “hit the week running,” he meant running to the car that was going to take him to the airport that was going to take him to the fundraiser.

“When you look at are you better off now than you were when I came into office, the answer is pretty clear — the answer is yes.”

Unavailable for comment: Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone S. Woods, and Glen Doherty. Also unavailable for comment: the millions of people who got screwed over by Obamacare.

How ironic you link to an article by Robert Kennedy, a man to whose family cover-up is practically the national pastime (*cough* “Mary’s death” *cough*)

So, I’ll mark you down in the “Don’t give a $#!t about the truth” column, then. So what if four men are brutally murdered. So what if the explanations given so far as to why they could not have been rescued are most unsatisfactory. Benghazi doesn’t reflect badly against Repubs, so you can’t use it, and like a dog in the manger, you don’t want anyone else to, either. God forbid we should find out Barry and Hillary dropped the ball on this one, and then resorted to cynical lies and cover-up, because election 2012. (*cough* “Nixon/Watergate 1972” *cough*)

        • tonnyb2

Not so. Read the document. Either the facts or there or they are not. I care very much about the truth.

I don’t have a problem with investigating a real issue. So far there is nothing there. Just a lot of allegations without the proof.

And how is it you are comfortable smearing Robert Kennedy with his uncles misteps? Should we smear Bush with Precott’s involvement with Hitler or does it only count when it serves to takes down a democrat/liberal policy/position/person?

Frankly Washington is a mess because it is run by the wealthy elites and their minions, Republican and Democrat.

          • mike_in_kosovo

Should we smear Bush with Precott’s involvement with Hitler or does it only count when it serves to takes down a democrat/liberal policy/position/person?

Well, let’s see… P. Bush was a director of a bank that was owned by a German bank.

On the other hand… Joe Kennedy was an anti-Semite and attempted to actually *meet* Hitler. Evidently, you’re ok with that.

    • keyboard jockey

But the 1% did do well under the Obama administration. The entire time the Obama administration is using class warfare to get the plebes out to vote democrat- the 1% have flourished, and the poorest and working poor have fared the worse.

Apparently the poor and working poor, are only interested in someone pandering to them – giving them “lip service” not someone who will actually take action that benefits them personally.
