In the affluent DC suburb of Potomac, Maryland, 65 people each paid $10,000 (or more) to dine with the president at a fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). The Washington Post In the Loop blog reports:
Monday evening, President Obama had dinner with mega Democratic donors Jeff and Lora Drezner at their sprawling $5 million bungalow on five acres in Potomac, Md. The Drezners gave a combined $100,000 to candidates and political committees in the 2012 campaign cycle.
For the bargain price of $10,000 per person, or $32,400 per couple for VIP status, (that better be some spectacular filet) you could enjoy an “intimate dinner” with special guest Barack Obama, according to the invitation posted by the Sunlight Foundation.
It’s a safe bet that a lot of those in attendence got rich from lucrative federal contracts, so they probably are better off since Obama has been in office. The rest of the country, not so much.
.@BarackObama at @DCCC fundraiser about @NancyPelosi: "I want her back as speaker"
— Josh Lederman (@JoshNBCNews) May 19, 2014
That may have stung Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) whose name has been mentioned as a potential future Speaker of the House. Van Hollen was in attendance according to the invitation along with Pelosi (D-CA) and Congressman Steve Israel (D-NY), Chairman of the DCCC.
According to some tweets from the press, the president focused a lot on telling donors not to worry about the failure of Obamacare or the Benghazi coverup.
At DCCC fundraiser, Obama asks "the debate now is about what? #Benghazi? Obamacare? It becomes this endless loop."

Pres Obama tells DCCC fundraiser about #Benghazi, #Obamacare: It’s not serious. It’s not speaking to the real concerns that people have.

Nothing to see here, folks. Your concerns about lower quality care for higher prices aren’t real. Benghazi is just a phony scandal.
Having “real concerns” is only the privilege of the Washington elite.
