The Miami Dolphins and Dolphins player Richie Incognito are both denying a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that former Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin left the team as a result of harassment/bullying.

Meanwhile, the Miami Herald’s Dolphins reporter, Adam Beasley, is tweeting that older players routinely take financial advantage of rookies:

Beasley retweeted these three tweets (one of which was deleted but preserved by Twitchy shortly before this post was published) by Dolphin players Jared Odrick and Will Davis:

Davis says the $30,000 #RookieNight bill was split among more than one player:

How many players, and were all of them rookies?

  • fishydude

Not surprising at all. Most of these guys were never held accountable in high school or college (unless they went a military Academy). They still see themselves as above the rules. Is bet dollars to donuts that NFL players that are Academy alumni have rarely uf ever been involved in such behavior.

  • The Penguin, Don’t talk shit

    Dolphin’s veterans= This administration
    Dolphin’s rookies= taxpayers.

    Sounds familiar.

    • ObamaFail

95% of income gains under Obama have gone to the 1%, so that’s pretty accurate.

  • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

This has been rumored for years. When it’s ever come to light, it’s been written off as being a one-time “rookie hazing” ritual– allegedly to welcome them to the league, and teach them what it will be like having moochers around them with their hands always out, living the high life and sticking their football player “friend” with all the bills (and I don’t mean the “Buffalo” kind).

Disturbing if it is an ongoing thing, and the veteran players are the real moochers.

  • Maxx

All of the minority football millionaires involved (in demanding rookies pay for your meals) who were angered when Mitt talked about the 47%…

    …can now kindly STFU.

    • Elizabeth Fisher

      PREACH !!! :-)

    • Janice LEE

      Igcognito is white.

      • MoocherSux

        Whitened Hispanic.

      • brightfartbanned me

Yea, but he wasn’t the only one. This isn’t a race thing. This was a ball breaking thing.

        • Janice LEE

Pouncy too part of the posse. He was just given a subpoena to testify before the grand jury in the Hernandez murder matter.

  • mickeyco

NFL thugs acting like NFL thugs? Who’d have guessed?

    • Janice LEE

Reports are that while in college Igcog would shove people down the stairs, punch, etc. and dare them to complain. Sicko psycho. And I am sure he had others in a posse.

      • mickeyco

        How charming.

  • no good deed

I can’t wait for the congressional hearings on this behavior, and the older NFL players yelling “You all right! I learned it from watching you!” It will make a great PSA.

  • Zorro

Sounds like a bunch of drunk Democrats.

  • $1014973

Shame the organization allows this crap to continue

  • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

OK. I’m going to ask the obvious. If that veteran player doesn’t have anything to hide, why is he living “Incognito?”

    Sorry, I had to ask.

    • The Penguin, Don’t talk shit

That’s a ‘duh’ I would think. No offense Tug.

  • bringbackericthered

“Rookie” dinners are nothing new. Teams have always done stuff like this. 30K split between several guys who are making close to 1 million a year playing a game? Excuse my while I struggle to feel bad vets are making them buy a dinner.

    • MB

You missed the part that said these rookies are making $400,000 before taxes? Your reading comprehension must be off. They also have to pay for an agent and housing, not to mention something to live on in the off season.

      • Elizabeth Fisher

And that’s $400,000 before taxes and before they pay their agents, etc. etc. etc.

        • Elizabeth Fisher

Oooops… just saw where you posted about the agent

          • Kyle Schroeck

400,000 is the rookie minimum. Martin received a 2.1 million signing bonus. You buy dinner and donuts your rookie year. It’s the culture.

      • bringbackericthered

Yes and a 30k check split between a few guys who make 400k isn’t spit. as pointed out below…Martin was making 2.1 up front (not his actual salary) I don’t think it hurt him much. But hey, you can have a participation trophy for trying.

  • san rafael blue

I thought that a Coach was there to help prevent or discourage “Prison Hall Behavior” like this. Maybe a Coach has very little influence once you leave the College, because they players know they are as valuable if not more valuable than the ‘so called Coach”. This needs to be brought out. This is economic mooching. JUST SAY HELL NO!!

  • radjahshelduck

You can’t win in Miami. Just when they clean up the college program, the professional program becomes a cesspool. By the way–wasn’t it Mark Twain who said the bit about a lie getting half way around the world before the truth gets its boots on, not Churchill?

  • Hyperion

This makes a TON of sense when paired with the recent departure of one of their BIG players.

  • sludog

Why would a GROWN MAN allow himself to be bullied????

    • Julie the Jarhead

      Excellent question, sludog!

  • CasualMeyhem

Refuse to pay, get people arrested. One time and It will not happen again. (That’s extortion by the way. There IS a law. Use it.)

  • CasualMeyhem

Ground rule for dealing with bullies – You probably have the option to make EVERYBODY lose. Use it.

  • TheOriginalDonald
  • Janice LEE

Pouncy one of the ringleaders. He was just subpoenaed by the MA grand jury in the Hernandez murder case. Pouncy and his twin brother were seen wearing FREE HERNANDEZ caps shortly after the arrest. Both apologized.

  • Mark Power

It a cultural thing. A dysfunctional ghetto culture.

  • Guest

    Incognito’s in the house

  • Ron Morisseau

    Incognito is in the house

  • $1014973

This is usually where Richie’s daddy comes riding to the rescue.

  • brightfartbanned me

Incognito is a [email protected] from NY. Shaking suckers down is just part of growing up there. The Giants could use him if the Dolphins dump him. He’s just misunderstood.
