EBT cards in many states aren’t working today, and as you might expect, some Walmart shoppers aren’t very happy.

Then again, every cloud has its silver lining:

Welcome to the Obama economy.

* * *

Update: This photo really is heartbreaking, for any number of reasons.

  • http://www.LiberalEffect.com/ liberaleffect

So many people w/ computers, internet access, smartphones, yet still complaining about not getting free food because #EBT is down

    • Harry A

To be fair none of the posts themselves are from people who actually make reference to being on EBT or talk about their EBT card not working. Two of them clearly work at Walmart and another references her daughter working there. Also just checked the first tweet’s twitter account, she also works at Walmart.

I’m not saying there aren’t many people on EBT who don’t have smart phones, but this post doesn’t make mention any such people.

      • Guest

The earlier post on this did include a lot of tweets from disappointed EBT users:

        http://twitchy.com/2013/10/12/riot-time-food-stamp-users-in-near-panic-over-ebt-card-failures/

        • Harry A

in that post as well theres one person who says “our EBT” cards go shut down and another post mentions her room mate might “off herself” presumably because her (being the room mate) EBT card isn’t working. The other posts all reference people. they say “people about to riot” instead of we about to riot, or “people’s EBT isn’t working” as opposed to our EBT.

Again I’m not saying there isn’t fraud in the system, or that the fraud isn’t widespread. I’m not even saying that these posts definitely aren’t from people on EBT themselves, but there’s only one post from an actual claimed EBT user.

          • Ronald Green

            And? What’s your point then?

          • Joe

            he doesn’t have one…

          • Cynthia Jaeger

I worked in fraud for 10 ys for food stamps, medical assistance and childcare. 60% of people lied on applications and weren’t eligible. I did 1 million dollars a year 10 yrs straight in fraud.

          • IGUESS2013

You are lying. And you should be ashamed of yourself.

          • mike_in_kosovo

            And you know this ….how?

          • Ronald Green

Cause she white man, she gotts ta be Raaaacist.

          • None

let’s see your proof, genius. I worked in Medicare and saw so much fraud it was ridiculous. So why would you say there’s no fraud for EBT…unless you’re maybe committing fraud yourself?

          • bo1921

I suspect she’s understating the fraud.

          • Jill

Is the USDA, in their annual fraud report that shows an exponential increase in cases of reported fraud, also lying?

          • Anna

They are cracking down on the lying bastards here in NY. I hope they eventually just get rid of the system all together.

          • vatrice george

Most folks who receive any kind of govt assistance “lie”. People lie/fudge the truth on their taxes, their home loan application and college financial aid application. If people on welfare told the welfare office their mother bought them a tv, their cousin paid their car note one month and their boyfriend loaned them $200 they would be considered ineligible for their benefits that month. Welfare wants you to be destitute to qualify, you can not have a car, they only want $50 in your bank account(I’m sure I’m exaggerating). Women shouldn’t be punished for being single mothers, the babies are here and they aren’t going back, so the best thing to do is to assist them in obtaining skills that will take them off of the welfare rolls.

      • Bill J Janack

i gotta say i went to walmart today and my brother our cards worked just fine

    • Guest

i’m not on EBT. i have three jobs. i just don’t like to see children in America starving!

      • Jeff Aidt

theirs a cure for kid starving stop having kids you cant take care of.

        • ali

…and if you DID have a job when you had your children – then, ooops circumstances change, lost your job need financial help…what are people supposed to do then huh? You lack empathy – walk a mile in their shoes before you complain….

          • Frank Gardner

There are those that deserve our help. We all know there are also those just mooching off the system. I don’t mind helping those that NEED it. I can’t stand able bodies that just don’t want to work feeling like they are entitled to what I work hard for..

          • ali

Sadly – you tar one with the brush of shame – you tar everyone. The only people who ‘win’ when the common folk turn against each other are those that are immune from need – the rich and powerful. You are acting as their agent in this class war – shame on you and others like you. Why are you jealous of ‘welfare; recipients when more taxpayer money went to bail out millionaire bankers. The rich laugh at people like you – tearing into the week and helpless.

          • Jill

Somehow, I doubt even one child starved as a result of an eight hour shutdown.

      • Princess

Hard to have them starving when they get 2 squares at school everyday. Breakfast and lunch programs.

        • Natalia Colonna

really… are you fucking kidding me.. some children do not even get that.. have you ever tried to put a hungry child to bed? talk about heart breaking.. Oh.. and lets talk about “squares at school every day”… do you have any idea what they are actually feeding our children? i am sure there are a few good schools out there that try to provide healthy options.. but the difference between filling up a belly and providing proper nutrition is HUGE!

        • Natalia Colonna

That was before Moochelle took over the cooking….

        • mbp2013

I would agree, but the school food where I live hardly counts as a “meal”.

      • Larry Rappaport

Okay, I give. Show me where children are starving in America Tracey. Then let’s discuss the myriad of programs in place for assistance. This is the problem. This constituency doesn’t have the self responsibility mechanisms to investigate where to go or who to contact which is somewhat akin to saying its impossible to get an ID card to vote. Along with American citizenship comes responsibility. Those that truly need these services should be available to them without question. As to those who like to sleep until 10:00AM then go down for free eats need to check themselves before the wreck themselves as this is not sustainable and certainly not in perpetuity.

        • Guest

i agree. my point i was trying to make was that because these parents are frauds and cheat the system (which DOES happen a ton – I, too, worked in Welfare Fraud for a couple of years), doesn’t mean the children should suffer. I agree completely about the abuse and cheating the system and being lazy and doing NOTHING and expecting things to be handed to them. i was complaining because these people were lumping everyone in to one category (Which isn’t the case because there are people out there that actually NEED the program. – people who are single, going to school, working but still not making enough money, etc etc) and LAUGHING about it. it’s not funny. i was angry that people were laughing at people being hungry.

    • nanaTo5

Not EVERYONE who get’s EBT cards is a deadbeat. There are some who actually need the benefits.

      • Rene NayNay Martinez

Amen! Most, are not deserving, but there are some, who are. Who’s children don’t eat unless they eat the free lunch at school. It breaks my heart. I see it everyday, i live it everyday. Not everyone that is on the EBT card, is a deadbeat or worthless, OR just trying to get something for free, maybe the dumb assess ruined it for the people who ARE deserving. Amen darlin! I agree! :)

      • FightingTheDark

I totally agree. However, working in retail, I see people come in and buy nothing but junk food on EBT, then have a separate transaction of hundreds of dollars of booze, cigarettes, etc. One guy came in and bought a whole ton of beef, chips, and beverages on EBT and said he was throwing a party… EBT is not meant to throw parties, it isn’t meant to but your food so you can spend YOUR money on non-essentials like booze and tobacco. It’s supposed to help you out until you can get back on your feet and start paying for your own food yourself again. But the number of people I see abusing the system every day is disgusting.

Yes, there are people that need it, and I feel for them and am happy there is a system set up to help them. But for the rest of them, get off oyour backsides and get a job. I’m 21, have 3 part time jobs, and go to school part time. If I can do it, so can basically anyone else.

        • JMM

You should be proud of yourself. You clearly have self-respect, and a good sense of responsibility.for someone your age. It’s uncommon these days. I wish you the best of luck with your education. Thank you for your integrity. It is encouraging to know there are young adults out there like you. We need more of you.

        • Princess

Exactly. My girlfriend refused to go to her friends kids birthday party. When she asked her what she could bring to help out, the EBT recipient said “nothing”. She had to start spending all of her EBT card money every month or they were going to cut her back. She got $800/month for her and her kids.

      • 4Deuce

Of course you are right Nana. There are those with legitimate need for EBT cards. But you know, most of those with a legitimate need will not be the ones ranting and raving if their is a temporary system problem. Those with legitimate needs are grateful that we have a system designed for them – to offer temporary assistance to those needing it. What most of us here object to are those who see societal safety net programs as their God-given right and feel we are obligated to care for them from craddle to grave. They never speak about how they’ve been blessed to get what they get. These are the ones who inspire our ire – and our contempt.

      • gv416

And there are many who SELL their EBT benefits for half the dollar value….Sorry..but people who have balances over 2000 dollars (and I’ve seen it with my own eyes ) DONT need it.

    • Ghomer

cricket phones are smart phones but theyre super cheap, cheaper than a home phone… so yes, people with smart phones can be on food stamps…. learn something before you spout something… makes you look like an ass

      • Ruth

Smart phones usually are not cheap to operate. I will not buy one for that very reason. Don’t really need one either.

        • Marissa Miller

35 to 50 bucks a month if you go with cricket or other pre-paid wireless companies. My brother has cricket and he does everything my smart phone does but one third the price! I’m considering switching to cricket myself!

      • None

the point is why have a smart phone if you can’t afford food? Safelink offers FREE phones with a goodly amount of minutes and texting…not smart, but sufficient.

        • vatrice george

I hope you know that many of the people who serve in the US military qualify for foodstamps. Should US soldiers who are stationed miles away from their family not be able to have a smarthphone?

      • DCox

        I don’t give a damn, want a smartphone, get a job.

      • Princess

Want a cricket phone, get a job. If you can afford a cell phone, you can afford to feed yourself. People with smart phones should not be on food stamps. Period. That phone money should be going to food.

      • Milady

Food before phones/tv/internet. If they are spending on electronic, they are fools. You dont ‘need’ any of that. And if you need a number, GoogleVoice is free.

      • Concerned

I have a smart phone (iPhone), came free with a sign up of a two contract. Since then I’ve lost my job and got on ebt. And changed my phone to a prepay. Cost only 35 dollars a month with unlimited internet and text. 300 min a month talk time. I now have a job, ebt was cut but I still get them. Have no cable, or fancy car. Just the basics to live off of and to raise my children. Oh, four a family of four. We get 200 a month. I work 20 hours a weeks for 8 dollars an hour. I barely make it!

      • Concerned

If you’re walking around with an iPhone 5 in your pocket, you don’t need EBT. Sorry.

    • Vennoye

The only thing memorable about this, is that it shows just how easily the EBT chain and the veneer of “business as usual” can be brought down. It also shows that in actually, WalMart is a largely government supported entity!! Got to love those public-private partnerships.

      • Ruth

If the cards are down, Wal-Mart is not the only place this is happening at. But the other places are not being reported. Why

        • Hattie

My Ameristop that I work at was down in Ohio. People were civil, but angry at the government.

        • Stephanie Kehrley

you are right.. if the cards are down at walmart then they are going to be down at all the stores. it is going to be a state wide thing. not just at certain stores.. that is what people need to realize. but walmart is a national store that gets a lot of publication and will get noticed.so that is why it gets the attention..

      • Richard Wayne

Big box stores are the natural result of big government/liberal economics.

Sure these store are highly efficient but look at what Mom and Pop Stores had to compete with:
1)planned inflation robs just enough value from the currency,
        2) the bureaucratic state makes paperwork pile up and regulation costly,
        3) taxes add a double whammy jto the loss of dollar value

These highly efficient/inexpensive foreign product loving/cheap labor using big box stores are the natural consequence. They are the only ones who can survive in the ‘free market.’

    • Kirsten Houseknecht

well, when hubby lost his job its not like the repossessed the phones we already had, nor the internet we had already paid for.
besides, for a lot of folks having a cell phone is how you get called in to work…

      • DCox

That don’t make no sense. If he had a job how did he have an obama phone? And if I don’t pay for my internet it gets turned off. You make no sense at all

    • Jim Hull

if you were living on retirement money every month, like you made every week, you might think differently. i’m happy to get my soc.sec. and medicare, but now, those are also threatened.

      • Jill

Social Security and Medicare are deemed mandatory spending and are, barring a complete economic collapse, will always be paid so long as monies flow into the coffers. That is one bit of security that you have that many individuals under 40 might not.

    • Nick

Yeah man its like real easy to get a job when you turn in your application and then they call you… on your banana. That’s why no one on ebt should pay for a phone. They don’t need outs they just need to live like shit, just as you suggest.

    • Welcome to my world

You do realize how cheap you can get a smart phone right? Mine cost .99 cents. I also believe that most everyone needs a phone and most people use cell phones instead of having land lines. So if you see a person with a smart phone using food stamps does. Not mean they are paying outrageous amounts of money for them. Oh and with most cell phone plans access to the internet comes with them. Do you believe that these people should not have access to a phone?

    • $25753324

Libbies don’t find the irony in that.

  • FreedomFighter

    I wanna see pictures…lol

    • steve

Wonder how many are acting like their master right now? You know President stompyfeet!

      • Tiff

And what way would that be? Why the hate?

        • Jill

Derision does not necessarily imply hate.

    • garygramscom

Probably looks like a Nike sale

      • Jeffrey Lamela

Then there should be a shooting if sneakers are involved.

      • Tiff

Or maybe like black friday. People camping out all night until the EBT cards start working again!

    • Leland Eagleson

I have had more than enough pictures of Walmartians show up in my inbox, thank you. 😀

    • Tiff

It should be awesome to see starving children have to put back their groceries, right? I wanna see pictures of others slapping you.

      • Jill

How many children ‘starved’ during this temporary black out?

  • redheadgrl

Your gov’t at work. Can’t even figure out you don’t do software upgrades during high-traffic hours, like Saturdays. This stuff is usually done from 12 am to 6 am on Sunday mornings. #governmentalwaysfails

    • LoneWolf

The stupid liberals are blaming it on the shutdown.

      • Richard Mills

THIS is the PERFECT time to BLAME IT ON OBAMA!!!! want to see how many want him gone NOW! 😀 yep, i’m evil!

        • Lauravan

How many want the GOP gone is more like it!

          • Frank Gardner

Why would you want the GOP gone? They have come up with 9 bills to end the shut down and odumma just says no. He is the one who needs to be gone.

          • LaQueefa Matumba

The low information beggars won’t blame their messiah for anything – he’s the handout king

      • Teresa

It is because of the shutdown. Republicans have cut their proposal down to almost nothing and Obamer still won’t accept it. It’s Obama that is cutting food stamps off. He has a responsibility to negotiate the spending of our money but he refuses. It’s on him.

  • BoscoBolt

It’s a bad day for freeloaders.

    • peteee363

      that should be the headline!

    • Guest

more like CHILDREN ARE STARVING you asshole.
no. i don’t get them. but i do not like seeing children starve!!!!!!!
      shame on you.

      • llk29

The only children starving in America are those whose parents habitually sell their EBT cards to buy drugs. If you want to see children starving…visit a 3rd world country. The starving children there don’t have expensive, brand name clothing, smartphones, and their mama’s don’t carry around Coach hand bags and sport $75.00 manicures, nor drive nice cars. Get some perspective…geezzz.

        • will benson

That’s right they need to beg for a quarter to use the non existent public phone to apply on the job or answer the email for a job they applied on via the liberty computer. . . Oh wait everyone can use a computer to look shit up so why do you need to pay for a liberty and if they are poor enough why do they have a cell phone or a computer???? WTF they should just beg for food like all the real poor people in 3rd world countries you know what you are a F’n ASS!

          • Ronald Green

Really do need to get out into the world and see some of what it is really like before you making yourself look like hysterical fool again.

          • will benson

I think your name should be Ronald “POT” Green as you are the one calling the kettle black! BTW . . . I have read many of your posts and just as an FYI the South LOST !

          • Ronald Green

Really? The South Lost? Do tell.

Did you also know that it was fought 150 years ago?

When I debate about the War, it’s about is causes and it’s consequences. Not about who won like some immature liberal tools are want to do.

And I’ve read all of your liberal lick-spittle posts as well, get over yourself.

          • will benson

Hello??? Duh . . . Mr. Not very nuanced. . . does not take much to go over your head ! You make me laugh. . . . but then again – it’s kinda sad. . . .I so hoped that you would get it . . . .I leave you with a quite from a very cool movie as it is quite apropos “You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting.”

        • gman213

We have the richest “poor” people on earth!

      • L Macazo

AND YOU KNOW THIS HOW? If you are so worried about starving children, go buy some groceries and help feed these imaginary ‘starving’ children…like parents are going to wait until the last morsel of food is gone before going to the store? Their money was available since the 3rd of Oct. Drama queen

      • 4Deuce

Any morons who waits until his/her cupboards are bare demonstrate their utter stupidity. That sort of wait-till-the-last-minute thinking puts their own children at risk, The shame should be on such careless, irresponsible parents, Tracey.

      • None

Since you’re paying for them to have their meals, you should feel proud. I’m sure you’re very special.

      • DCox

These assholes I see with EBT are far from starving. 400 lb’ers buying junk food is what I see in line

      • Guest

THIS is a starving child on the left. On the right is the typical American child on welfare.

      • weagle99

What children are starving? The system goes down for a few hours and kids starve? Horsecrap. Did someone post a comment that forced you to realize you are a moocher and it hurt your feelings? Not one single child is starving b/c the system is down, not one period. Every month I pay a 4 figure tax bill via fed income tax witholdings and 75% of this is redistributed to other people. Every ebt holder should have a case worker who reviews what they own and their finances. Every iphone, ipad, tablet etc should have to be sold to the state. All broadband and cable beyond basic should berequired to be turned off. And the ebt cards should be set up to only work on certain foods. No steak, h’burger only, no shrimp or other seafood that is fresh, ie red snapper, no soda’s, candy, popcorn or ice cream. Only bulk cereals. You un get the point. This program should be for basic essentials only period. You wnat steak and shrimp for dinner or fruity pebbles for breakfast, well make sure your 4 kids from 3 different ‘babys daddys’ actually become educated and have no need for these programs. This starts by not celebrating teen pregnancy and ostricizing those that see dependency as an acceptable lifestyle, which is a rampant norm in certain cultures. You need only read the vast majority of tweets responding to the ebt down time to see this truth.

        • Guest

i don’t get food stamps. i work three jobs.
i am just not an asshole.
          God love ya, though.

          • Jill

The individual you are maligning represents the tax bracket most responsible for providing a social safety net. Should he have no opinion as a consequence?

      • Tim McAlister

How are children starving when they get free food at school, free food at daycare, and babies can always be breastfed

      • Jill

Please provide the names and dates of death of the poor children that starved to death because of a morning shut down.

    • Ghomer

what about people who are legitimately disabled and need the foodstamps to eat? hmmmmmmmm?

      • JMM

I’d go back to Cynthia Jaeger’s comment. Unfortunately, there are far too many who are able-bodied frauds. It there weren’t so many bad apples on the dole perhaps the legitimate people could be provided for.

      • Princess

No one is talking about legitimate people here receiving some assistance. Why do liberals ALWAYS pull the 1 in 100,000 down on your luck story out of their ass?

        • JMM

True. We are obviously not including the legitimately disabled in this. Most of the people here are talking about the frauds, of which there are tons.

      • weagle99

They wait a few hours for the system to restart, your point? Oh, and they certainly dont call for riots. See, that was an easy.

    • Ryan Johnson

unfortunately, also a bad day for the people who really needed it.

      • Jason Call

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY needs EBT. Everybody needs to eat. NOBODY, except for convicts, needs the state to feed them.

        • Ryan Johnson

I think people that absolutely cannot work need EBT. People that got laid off should not be able to have access to EBT for more than a short period of time.

        • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Are you expecting the Armed Forces to live off the land like “Sherman’s Bummers” did, then?

Military family dependents might be involved in the equation too, you understand.

          • DCox

Then that’s totally different f**ked up situation. Military families should not need EBT ever.

        • Jason Call

Whoops. Active-duty servicemen, too. Government, please provide food for soldiers, sailors, and convicts. Please stop providing food to anyone else. Thanks.

    • Kim Howell Hargrove

Listen jerk! I am not a freeloader. We work our butts off and still cant pay the bills and feed the children. Blame it on a government that has ran good paying jobs out of the country and trying to support a family on a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Maybe we should just let you feed us since you have it made!

      • Lauravan

He’s probably just another republican acting like he isn’t on food stamps while he’s at the Walmart throwing a hissy fit cause his cart is full and his benefits are on hold, LOL! Idiot conservatives will always make themselves known everywhere you go!

        • 4Deuce

Liberals are the class of people easiest to find at Wal-Msrt Laura… They are easy to spot, They are the ones with the confused looks on their faces when they can’t get into Wal-Mart. Of course, it is always the liberals who try to enter Wal-Mart using the marked EXIT doors.

        • DCox

dumbass remark… Who would pay for your EBT if not for working republicans

      • clintonstain

The fact that you said “Maybe we should just let you feed us since you have it made” disqualifies the earlier ” I am not a freeloader ” comment. Yes. You are indeed a freeloader.

        • milli

          You are an asshole.

      • Jo Chapman

Maybe you should just stop having kids since apparently you can’t take care of them…. Condoms are cheaper than children.

      • Jason Call

He already does feed you. That you aren’t grateful to him is not surprising, since you’ve told yourself that you’re entitled to what he provides.

      • None

With so many chances to go to school free and improve yourself and your job position (and the opportunities are out there) why would you stay in a $7.25 job unless you choose to? Is it fear? Or that you don’t want to have to work to earn the kind of money you think you deserve?

      • Princess

hmmm, let’s see where you can cut on your budget. How many cell phones do you have in your household? What year, make and model are your cars and how many? Do you have cable TV? What bills do you have other than food and shelter? Those are number 1 & 2. You must have internet to be posting, a computer, a smart phone, etc. Were you already living above your means when Obama got elected? And now you are in debt and can’t make your monthly payments? If you were on a cash basis, maybe you wouldn’t have “bills”. There is nothing wrong with having kids get a job to help out if they are able. These are just suggestions to help you out of your plight. Plant a garden and teach your kids how to take care of it while you are at work. If there is a will, there is a way. When people are most down and out, inventions, imagination take hold.

      • weagle99

What bills can you not pay, cable? Did you think about this before bringing children in to your world?

      • LaQueefa Matumba

Can’t feed ’em don’t breed ’em. Pig.

    • Lauravan

What an a$$hole. I have an EBT card and I am NOT a freeloader. If you call being disabled being a freeloader well then maybe I am. But you’ll always be an a$$hole!

      • Jo Chapman

Dear Laura, http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/freeloader?s=t you’re a freeloader… Sincerely, working two jobs to PAY my way through college because my parents taught me not to be a freeloader and only take things you EARNED or were Given… unless you are a disabled VET, don’t want your excuses. Get a damn job. Walmart is hiring all the time, though they may have some cutbacks since freeloaders such as yourself can’t shop there. I’m sure its bothering their sales. :-)

      • Jason Call

Get off government welfare as soon as you can. You and the government are abusing each other. Live your own life, disabled or not.

      • GREG

Me an my wife both work we have three kids an we get denied EBT ,an i have to go to my moms house to rob food from her so we can eat !!! So were does that all make sense the people who do need it an would use it the right way cant get it !! But if ur on welfare sell drugs here u go free food !! Get a job an sacrifice people United States Of Laziness …

      • DCox

Are you one of those “disabled” people I see out at the pool?

      • Princess

Lauravan – what did you do before you became “disabled”. What is your disability? With a 200% increase in social security disability payments (funny how people seem to qualify for that right after their unemployment runs out), you ALL had better figure out that this country is fast running out of other peoples money. BTW, is your disability physical or mental? That is a serious question.

      • LaQueefa Matumba

I’m disabled, and don;t receive a dime in EBT. A$$hole.

EBT card failures cause ‘complete chaos’ at Walmart stores

You mean aside from the usual chaos?

    • Ruth

Why are they focusing on Wal-Mart? This has to be happening at any store all over town that accepts these cards.

      • LisaG

Big business is eeeeeeeeevuhl. Wal-Mart is the capitalist demon. Wal-Mart hates poor people. Wal-Mart wants little kids to starve to death. /sarc

Seriously, no one is going to tweet about the mom-and-pop store around the block that also had EBT issues. Who would know or care what they were talking about?

    Detroit’s Model Citizens Line Up for Money from Obama’s “Stash”October 8, 2009
    Ken Rogulski, WJR in Detroit.
    ROGULSKI: Why are you here?
WOMAN #1: To get some money.
ROGULSKI: And where did Obama get it?
WOMAN #1: I don’t know, his stash. I don’t know. (laughter) I don’t know where he got it from. But, he givin’ it to us. To help us.
WOMAN #1: We love him. That’s why we voted for him!

  • dekadeantt

w hats wrong with everyone. not all people are freeloaders. there are hard working people outr here that work everyday. they have kids and just need a little help. sometimes 5 dollars is like 50. you have to use coupons and buy marked down meat and produce just to eat.. day old bread and out of date milk. some people don’t no how bad it can be..the government should not have let this happen. for Gods sake this is America. I hope you mean people never need a helping hand.and fyi I am not on foodstamps but know several hard working mothers who are and if I could afford to help them I would. I do help the ones I know need it the most.

Walmart fears the filet mignon and lobster might perish if the EBT system is not up soon

    • MNWoman

Doesn’t it frustrate you when you have to budget and have to go without expensive foods because it doesn’t fit your budget and then see people buy expensive, brand name junk food?

I always buy generic whenever possible. Of course, I buy my own stuff, but if I ever was in a situation where I needed assistance, I would make sure I tried to depend on it as little as possible.

It was never meant to be the only source of income to purchase food. It was meant to be supplemental “income” to purchase food.

I work at a Texas Walmart. Thankfully, I’m on a temporary leave of absence–so I wasn’t at work today. It must’ve been utter chaos.
Btw: I spent a couple of months on EBT in the late 1990’s. I HATED it. I felt guilty that taxpayers were having to pay for my screw-ups.

        • Princess

Screw ups? That implies that you could have avoided being on EBT status.

          • annoyinglittletwerp

I made choices. At the time I went on-I couldn’t avoided it.
Had I made better choices EARLIER-it might have been/ would have been avoided. I got food stamps ONLY. For all of a few months.
I didn’t abuse them in any way.

          • Princess

That is what the system is there for. We all make mistakes. Some learn from them, others learn how to become a good victim. Glad you found your way out of it.

  • SawLogBackBone

In America, there are those that need assistance. In America, there are those that get assistance, that don’t need it. What is mind blowing is that the ones that DON’T need it, raise the biggest stink. The true survivors use it to help them get on their feet and move on, using it for its intended purpose.
The mindset now is, “Why work, I can get everything I need and not pay a dime for it. They have corrupted the system beyond repair. Pull the plug and let them sort it out the hard way.

    • Michelle ✓classified

      Bingo.

I have a friend who is the perfect example of how the system was intended to be used. 20 yrs ago she became a teenage mother and the father of her child bailed. She was 17 and went on assistance. She used food stamps, housing assistance and tuition assistance. She stayed on assistance while she went through college, working part-time, earned a degree in Criminal Justice and became a police officer straight out of college. She hasn’t been on public assistance since the day she graduated, now owns a home, is putting that son through college and has a solid career. She never married and never had another child, focusing instead on the one she needed to provide for. THAT is what the system was designed for.

      • CJ Chadwick

Then again, had she chosen a better man, she would not have needed it in the first place.

        • Leland Eagleson

Yeah, but good men ARE hard to find, what with all the hollyweird expectations.

          • CJ Chadwick

No we aren’t. I’ve been single for a year and a half. I work two jobs (one full and other part). Women these days want a man to deal drugs, go in and out of jail and beat on them. I have ambition so I am not attractive to women. I know 4 other guys that have good jobs also and are good as gold that are still single also. It’s not us.

          • Leland Eagleson

You should watch more Dr. Phil and a LOT less Maury…

          • FaithColeridge33

I doubt he’s watching a whole lot of anything with his work schedule and kids to take care of.

          • LJB_65

Seriously…beat on them? Maybe that attitude is why you’re single.

          • CJ Chadwick

Your words versus what I have seen with my own eyes tell different stories. Maybe it’s you that has a ‘head in the sand’ problem.

          • Princess

He didn’t say he beat on them, he said that is what they seem to be looking for. Comprehension not your strong suit.

          • Jo Chapman

Dear Gents, I’m sure you want a superbly attractive, funny, AND successful woman too? Buuuuut, we’re the shallow ones, right? Seen your pic, stop being picky and start choosing the important things in a woman, only then will you find the RIGHT one. Sincerely, all of the above and with a GOOD man. <3

          • Princess

CJ – I can tell you, you and your friends are far and few between.

          • CJ Chadwick

Thank you Princess! Hope that was a compliment. :)
I could get a woman today but I’m looking for quality. I (and those other guys) are just looking for someone decent. Most of us have at least one child and can’t expose them to just anyone.

          • Princess

Yes, it was meant as a compliment. Decent people are hard to come by when it seems they are all looking for a sugar mama or a sugar daddy. When that fails, they turn to government instead of themselves. You and your friends hang tough and protect each other from the chicks all looking for a free ride. I would tell you where to meet decent single chicks, but we pretty much sit at home and teach ourselves how to do maintenance on our own stuff be independent and quit looking.

          • CJ Chadwick

So true and I’m sure decent women have a hard time finding good men. Most are just after..well…you know. I don’t go out to bars/clubs so I save money that I don’t have to pay a babysitter so that’s good. Sounds just like me, I’m either at work, at home or at church. Except for today, my little man had a worrying cough last night so we are staying in till it passes. I have money but I constantly (and purposely) act broke to keep the gold diggers away. I even have a different bank account for savings so I don’t get saved money mixed with bill money. Out of sight is out of mind and it works.

          • Princess

Sounds like you are working hard to raise your child and keep it together. Just remember, there is a difference in being alone and being lonely. Having been single now for the past 2 years for the 1st time in my life, I am enjoying it. Now I get to attain my wants, dreams and desires instead of someone elses and learning to live and understand myself. That is what I focus on. That is what is making me happy.

          • CJ Chadwick

Being single has its perks but there is only so much stimulating conversation that can be had with a 3 year old. Sometimes just having someone to chat with would be nice but alas! I am me.

          • Princess

How true! But alas, that is why you have church and friends. When I start to feel lonely, I just remember how much I wished the person I was with at the time wasn’t there. Then I smile and go and do something I want to do because no one is there to make me feel guilty because I am not giving all my time and attention to them and disregarding my own needs. I guess I am at the point in my life where it is finally ME time. You are still raising children, I am done with all of that. Stop looking, and the right person will appear. May not happen overnight, but it will happen at the right time and place. Maybe you are still holding a bright candle for your wife and it interferes with here and now relationships. It is hard to compete with a ghost. : ) Maybe, you are not ready mentally, just physically. I wish you happiness.

          • Osamabeenscrewed

Yeah, we can’t even find a real man to be president.

What are the odds of that? The roommate claims to be on welfare and working on her GED, while “FreeManYes” explained she and him are the same age.

          • CJ Chadwick

Um, I don’t have a ‘roommate’, I have a child and it is just the two of us Detective KnowItAll. Maybe you should change your name to google since you know everything. Apparently you have some mental issues or possibly reading comprehension is just not your strong suit. Where do you see me ‘sticking up’ for anyone? I’m starting to think you are a liberal troll.

          • Michelle ✓classified

It’s right there in your comment history. It’s the fourth comment from your account (which was created yesterday) responding to a comment left for “Angel” (another account created just yesterday). But definitely go with your assumptions of me – I’m incredibly mentally ill (and running short on my meds), totally lack reading comprehension skills and that I’m a Liberal troll. I’m OK with all that.

          • CJ Chadwick

“She’s not actually ‘young’. She’s my age and we are on the back 9.” This was my comment, exactly how was that ‘sticking up for her’? Is that the best you can do? Seriously? That is a far reach from actually taking someone’s side. I guess clarifying some facts somehow equates into taking sides. When does it matter when my account was made, what relevance does that have on anything? If you had proper reading comprehension skills, you would not have spouted off with your “Single dad, eh? Oops, looks like all your decisions weren’t exactly perfect. Oh well, better luck next time.” comment. Maybe you don’t know the difference between ‘circumstance’ and ‘choice’.

          • CJ Chadwick

While that’s true, it wasn’t the point of her story. Something like that is worth bringing up for people who wind up like her and DON’T take responsibility for their actions.

        • ak

Bout the police officer at least became responsible for herself AND child. Not like women today who just keep getting pregnant over and over by 4 or 5 different “fathers” and stay on the system not bettering themselves and blaming EVERYONE else for their circumstance!

      • OneThinDime

Actually she should not have had a child out of wedlock. Paying someone to get pregnant encourages more and more to do the same, which they do. I paid for my college education while I worked full time and for MANY on welfare with taxes I paid. The system was not created to help people who intentionally create a child they cannot support.

        • Kelley Raunec

Maybe only God gets to judge, but guess what we still have to pay, and get no say? LOL The phrase, “When you can pay your own way then you don’t have to live under my rules” come to mind. Any other kid ever told this as a child? Any parent ever said this? So tell me exactly why I’m having to pay for people and I have absolutely NO say where my MONEY goes.

I was raised properly and raised by family that helped other family members in time of need, didn’t suck off the taxpayers and justify it because “poor me”. It’s long past time the welfare system change to a 60 day loan and we recoup EVERYTHING paid to people like your friend once they become employed.

          • Michelle ✓classified

Your compassion for people trying to turn their lives around is awesome. I’m ever-so-delighted to know I’m in perfect company with people who never make any bad decisions. When I grow up, I hope to be exactly like you!

          • OneThinDime

I’m just happy that you and your welfare friend will spend your entire working life paying higher taxes because of people just like her.

          • Michelle ✓classified

My “welfare friend” hasn’t been on welfare in well over 20 yrs. (perhaps you missed that part?) She has been a police officer since the day she graduated college (perhaps you missed that part, too?) She went into a career of service to give back to society – she puts her life on the line to protect the people of her community. And you want to judge her for being on welfare for a short time over 20 yrs ago? Self-righteous people are so fascinating. I’ll pray for you.

          • OneThinDime

Still a welfare friend. And a short time isn’t getting a college degree. A short time is a week. And now she is a UnionBot.

Yawn. You are why conservatives are scoffed at. You should pray for a way to pay the upcoming $25 Trillion in debt that the welfare and food stamp people helped drive up not to mention the trillions in unfunded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare. And believe me, we the Baby Boomers are going to collect off of those working.

          • Krystal

Michelle, you are very right, it must be absolutely exhausting to be perfect all the time. That self-righteous condescending attitude OneThinDime has must take a lot of effort to maintain.

          • FaithColeridge33

I can tell you from experience, that yes indeed, it is hard to be right all the time. It can be infuriating to others too. Just ask everyone I live and work with. LOL

          • Michelle ✓classified

A guess you also missed the part where I said she worked part time while going through college – she pulled her weight the best she could with her circumstances. No idea why I would be the reason Conservatives are scoffed at considering I’ve never hidden on here the fact that I’m an Independent. See how making assumptions are really a good idea…

          • OneThinDime

Your ego is second only to Obama’s. You really think people spend their time reading your posts? Get over yourself. Your friend sucked off the gov’t teat while others worked and paid for their own education. Your friend continues to do so sticking taxpayers with all those union bennies for her and her illegitimate child.

          • Michelle ✓classified

I hope things get better for you. Life is tough enough, it’s tougher to go through it so judgmental, bitter and resentful.

          • OneThinDime

Yawn. Life is tough for many because your welfarebot friend and many more like her suck off the system that working people have taxes stolen from to pay for.

          • Liz

I will agree with you to a certain extent. I am glad she made something of herself. That is great. But I don’t happen to think being a government worker (police officer) is a career of service. And I don’t think that a woman with a small child should be putting their life in danger. But again, I am glad that she made something of herself. Congratulations to her.

          • Michelle ✓classified

You don’t think being a police officer is a career of service to the community? I disagree with that on every level. You don’t think a single mother should be a police officer? Right, that’s a job only men should do because kids could live without their dads if they die on the job. Daddies are expendable, that’s your logic. She’s an upstanding citizen, an excellent mother, a committed police officer and stands on her own two feet. Sorry she didn’t fit your mold of safely baking cookies in the kitchen.

Look, I’m a firm believer in black and white, meaning right and wrong, but we are human. Her friend shouldn’t have had a child without being married to someone she planned on spending the rest of her life with; however, humans aren’t perfect. If everything Michelle is saying is true, it sounds as though her friend has made a huge turnaround from a past mistake and hasn’t looked back since. For us, as compassionate human beings, not to forgive someone for a past mistake, theres something fundamentally wrong with our thought process. If we can’t forgive our neighbors, we shouldn’t expect it in return.

The question is, is this deliberate sabotage. There is enough money in the govt accounts to last up to a year from now, so if they are going to say it is because of the shutdown, Obama and his gang are lying, and purposely causing trouble for their own people.

  • Just Me

I’m heartbroken. We the taxpayers cannot afford to buy all the stuff shown in those pictures. But we are paying for all the stuff in those carts anyway for someone else.

  • Guest Speaker

Look ta those carts! Chips. Ready made drinks. Frozen TV dinners…. I wish I could eat that stuff. I can’t afford it. That is what happenes when food stamps causes too much demand for junk food….

    • Princess

Be happy you cannot afford it. It is really bad to ingest that crap.

      • LisaG

The really sad part about it is the people who were filling those baskets with “that crap” couldn’t afford it either…not without their precious EBT cards. But there it is in Technicolor, in nearly overflowing grocery carts, and those “needy” folks were perfectly prepared to haul all of “that crap” home to fill their pantries and fridges; clearly they weren’t starving because they just abandoned their loot-filled buggies and walked out (not silently, I’m sure). And don’t try to convince me they aren’t totally happy living off the government dole, because most of us won’t buy that line. They have obviously grown very accustomed to it, hence the customer hissy-fits reported by all those Wal-Mart employees.

        • Princess

Lisa G – Just to give you a perspective on their entitlement mentality, my son works with Section 8, free or virtually free housing. He rehabs houses, gets them all new and up to code with granite counters in the kitchen, tile the bathrooms and the whole 9 yards. If they don’t sell in a short period of time, they rent them and sometimes to Section 8 people. One of these Section 8 people complained to him because the stainless steel fridge was not brand new. It was 2 years old. There is gratitude for you and it is not infrequent. It is the norm.

@Jessica Larche These carts in the pic you posted are the return carts Walmart lines up daily so the merchandise can be returned to it’s proper location or discarded during night hrs. These are not returned food carts per say. Look at the merchandise in the middle cart. The cart on the right has food, the others have different merchandise. Customer svc collect the returns in various designated carts. The Walmart I shop in has at least 10 carts lined up every night. Once I asked about it because I found it to be quite bizarre. The manager explained the reason for the accumulation of merchandise to me. Each cart does NOT represent a return from a individual customers.

    • nc ✓s & balances

      Lord, I hope you’re right.

    • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

      I can clarify and verify that… I used to work at a Supermarket in Queens, New York, and we always had carts for Returned goods, damaged goods, and theft recovery (stuff stolen by shoplifters).Some Items (Bleach, Soap, etc.) would be used around the store, other stuff (perishables) would be thrown out, and the boxes/bottles/packages would be sent back for credit. I believe it was called (Stoppage, of Damage control )something like that..) Jawamax 8<{D}

      • LisaG

I worked at a Wal-Mart in Customer Service years ago (I handled LOTS of returns), and yes, they do separate returned items into shopping carts, but most of them today perform this task in an out-of-the-way spot so as to avoid the cluttered appearance that you see in the picture. And if those are carts used to separate returned items for distribution to their correct departments, someone at that WM is brain-dead in his/her categorizing skills. In my opinion, those are carts full of groceries destined for the check-out counter that were abandoned at the front of the store.

    • JMM

Then why are Walmart employees posting comments about there being so many carts? I’m sure the majority of the frauds are not putting anything back, Decent people would at least return the refrigerated and frozen goods. It’s only right. It is not the store’s fault. They should not have to take the loss of spoiled food.

    • Mebake

you can’t take these comments personally, but our welfare system IS broken and way too much fraud and abuse is happening….nobody here is talking about those folks who do need a helping hand and are working an honest job for a living and need those extra food stamp dollars to help feed the family…nothing wrong with that, that’s what the program is there for…most of these comments here are about the leeches who suck the system dry, and with nearly 47% of americans on some sort of assistance, the fast majority of them do abuse the welfare program and that’s what’s highly upsetting, to put it mildly

    • Corey Dennison

I don’t think that anyone begrudges helping out people who are genuinely down on their luck (there but for the grace of God goes any one of us). It happens to many good people (and I hope you get back on your feet soon), but unfortunately, it is a system that is easily abused.

The full carts full of food say it all. There are children going to bed hungry. Also free lunches from schools got cut. Some of those babies don’t eat unless it’s during school hours! My sons school offers a bag full of groceries home every Friday, for the children that won’t eat unless they eat at school. It’s not these children’s fault that they were born in this time! It’s not their fault that they were born into a family that can’t afford the “Luxuries” that most have! Like a nice car, OR even one that runs! Getting me back and forth to work, so i can attempt to provide! I hope that all your “trying” to figure out the budget was worth it. Not all families that have the bridge card are worthless! Some actually need it, some are actually deserving of the help! WOW, you sit there and say things about your internet access, and your smartphones! Real people that need it don’t have those things. They have the bare minimum, and are barely staying off the streets! But what do you know about that??? Hey, i have an idea, lets switch places, and YOU can go to bed worrying about EVERYTHING! You can go to bed, with a bleeding ulcer (that you can’t get medicine for, because you can’t afford it) and YOU can figure out how YOUR children are supposed to have a future! How come “so and so” has a phone, but i can’t mom? How come “so and so” can go to camp but i can’t mom? When they have tears in their eyes, because there is NO food on the table! YOU figure it out! Until then, Don’t judge those that NEED help, over those that don’t.. They DO NOT speak for everyone! Don’t be so fucking jaded! Thank you! That is all!

There is your proof that the system does not work. And the fact they are not getting off the system is the other end of the spectrum that says it is broken in that form also. In other words it is a fucking train wreck.

    • Axelgreaser

Every 6 months like clockwork, punisher Obama trots out his shopworn Talking Points #12-567: “We’re gonna concentrate on JOBS, JOBS, JOBS.” Obama neither concentrates on jobs, nor does he care if there are jobs. Could it be any more obvious? He is UNFIT FOR OFFICE. He has caused this chaos.

  • Axelgreaser

WHAT WAS THE CHAOS? That EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) folks had to park their unaffordable merchandise? Or that checkers were dazed and confused by taking one cash customer after another? This is truly disgusting. It’s anti-American when Mother Nancy Teresa Pelosi’s merciful welfare largesse could accidentally ignite a light bulb in someone’s head: “Hey, maybe if we had jobs and a government that didn’t issue lunatic pronouncements favoring food stamps over jobs we wouldn’t have to worry about where our next flat of sodas were coming from! Maybe, just maybe, we should throw the bums out and DEMAND and end to the welfare system!” youtube.com/watch?v=oP4gtTEyHRI Of course that would sadly disable Big Government’s EBT card (Electronic Bundling Transfer from big Farm and Big Food industries, and maybe end using human beings as ‘doomed poor’s’ for political scavenging.

  • Adam Johnson

The 3rd party service says it was an accident. Maybe, maybe not, but now for sure the Administration knows what will happen if they do it. And they WANT this kind of chaos. The sad part is that people today just learned what slavery is. When you depend on someone else for your next meal, you’re a slave. But they don’t want freedom, they want their way of life back. Sad really that people can’t see they are ruining their own lives and the lives of their kids by NEVER trying to get off assistance.

  • pgson

Xerox, the copying company, is the one in charge of the EBT system. That almost makes it comical. They are xeroxing fake and phony free passes to everyone and their brother to get as much food, and when this system is gamed, other things like liquor, etc., as they can. I say this as a recipient of them, as I’ve had to supplement the lack of better work to also sustain the family. I hate being on it in the sense that I hate being on the Government’s dole, but on the other hand I am grateful to God for every means of help and comfort this life has.

This isn’t related to the shutdown, just some idiotic system error that apparently puts the entire system of EBT out of commission in these states. This is why it’s *never good to only have a system dependent on technology*. Common sense should say, what happens if the technology breaks? Do we have a plan B in place? Obviously not.

    http://www.wjla.com/articles/2013/10/food-stamp-debit-cards-not-working-in-md-va-nationwide-95304.html

          • CJ Chadwick

How does it have nothing to do with EBT abuse when some many carts were left behind when people found out that funds were back on the cards? The obvious answer is the people that left the carts full of items knew full well that they did not have enough funds on their card to cover what was in the buggy. Giving that logic also supports the idea that many checked out with buggies full of stuff that they didn’t have funds for. The news report said “spread like wildfire”. If you want to know what constitutes EBT abuse just you common sense (if you have any). Allowing others not authorized to use the card to use it and “renting” the card out for cash is two prime abuses. Personally I believe that if you are getting “help” you shouldn’t be able to purchase things with the card that those of us who pay cash/debit can not afford. In what universe does that make sense? If I can’t judge/question the type of food purchased with such “help” then why should I be forced to “help”. You just keep on pretending that everyone is a saint and no one abuses the system.

Well Mine is I shop monthly as well, for a family of four and it may be even more fuller than that, and so what! Who are you to tell someone their basket is too full. I promise y’all are just upset because you can’t get FOOD STAMPS to get what you really want. smh..JERKS

      • Kickass Conservative

Ah, so food stamps are the way to “get what you really want.” Got it.

That’s a foreign concept to people who actually have integrity. You see, we use this crazy thing called a budget to save up for “what we really want”….

        • chestina staton

If that were really the case you wouldn’t care what the next person is doing in their home and what type of food they are purchasing..Again, you know nothing about the system..its all hear say..Try working in it and then say something…

          • Kickass Conservative

I don’t care what you do in your home. But when your generational mooching takes food out of MY home, I get a little pissed.

When I see folks buy t-bone steaks and beer with cash, then use EBT for “necessities,” while I have to actually decide which one I need to purchase…

When I see folks use their discretionary money to buy HUGE TV’s because they can bank on EBT to cover groceries while I budget properly to feed my family….

When I see folks go “all out,” ’cause it ain’t THEIR money, while I have to tell my family “maybe next month”….

Yeah, I care about that overfilled greed-cart you’re wheelin’ out to your 20inch chrome-wheeled SUV while texting on your iPhone…

Try working, period. Then say something.

          • qwerty_4321

when it’s tax payer money footing their grocery bill I sure as heck care what they’re buying. Good grief please TRY to have some logic to your arguments. I’ve witnessed stronger debating skills from infants.

      • qwerty_4321

no, we’re upset because our tax dollars go to greedy leeches and ignorant fools like you.

  • Angela Richter

Bottled water? EBT funs pay for bottled water? Just look in those baskets. Your tax dollars paying for them to eat THAT and THEY’RE pissed off?

  • Ken Alan Draper

Please pray for the poor Walmart employees, welfare types are rude, demanding, & arrogent when everything works right, when they don’t get their way they add whiney, & violent threats to the mix. in addition to all the shopping carts of food that will be abandoned that Walmart will have to throw away.

  • usaok59

I don’t have a problem with people needing a helping hand occasionally. My problem is with people who feel “entitled” to having someone provide for them, perpetually.

  • Just Another Guy ✓ ✓ ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Another nail in the Liberal “gov’t is the only entity that can help you” coffin.

Unfortunately, Obama is perceived as “black” and as such, gets another pass.

But when people start putting “EBT/SNAP” problems together with “Healthcare.gov” problems, MAYBE they’ll get a glimmer of what their future will be like under Obamacare.

Maybe…but then….O is black, ya know. Free pass. President by Affirmative Action.

  • stellatruman

I can’t make out much from those pics in terms of what is what , but it looks like a lot of processed food in boxes. Expensive stuff ! And my cart isn’t ever that full either . They could take some lessons from me to stretch their food budget..also, I don’t see anything resembling fruits and veggies.

    • chestina staton

Youre not them! You guys are so JUDGEMENTAL! Get over yourself! If any of you shop at walmart nothing there is truly organic, or not processed! Oh please you are not perfect by all means

      • stellatruman

who said anything about organic ? I can’t feel sorry for people that fill their grocery carts full of frozen , poor nutritional quality and whine that they can’t afford to feed their families. I am not perfect, nor do I claim to be, but I CAN stretch a food budget like it’s my job to do so. And since I am footing the bill for their food stamps, why can’t I pass judgement on what they choose to put in their cart ?
Try making something from scratch instead of all that junk

        • chestina staton

Again, you to. @Stellatruman-how do you know these people don’t work?? Please tell me?! You don’t. So what justice are you doing by assuming that because someone has food stamps that they can’t stretch those.. and how do you know they don’t make stuff from scratch? Just because you see this basket you don’t know what other food they already have in their homes..lmbo…. smh at you people.

          • stellatruman

why do you insist on putting words in my mouth ? I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you have a reading comprehension issue, but I said nothing about whether or not the card carrying EBT laden grocery shoppers are employed. One who fills a grocery cart full of boxes of frozen pizza and other boxed prepared meals wouldn’t be one I would think would care much about what they are feeding their family. Since I do a great deal of work in community food banks
( multiple ) as well as preparing food at my own expense for walk in centers for feeding the hungry, I can tell you that buying that crap is a huge waste of money …but then who cares if it’s not your money you’re spending ?
Sorry if this strikes a personal chord with you…not everyone cooks, I get that.

          • qwerty_4321

it’s the typical liberal tactic to put words in peoples’ mouths. That way you spend your time arguing that you never said such things, giving you less time to support your true arguments.

      • qwerty_4321

angry liberal .. how very typical. Walmart Super Centers have produce .. I buy mine there. Now go punch a fellow Democrat, it will make you feel better.

  • Joseph Pianta

it was also down at their Sam’s Club stores here in Erie, PA. I told the stock guy to move the sign outside so that I don’t waste my time coming into the store. Who caries real cash anymore and even worse writes checks, if you even have been approved to write on on your Club account. ( the Sam’s Club wasn’t that busy for noon on a Saturday. Wal-Mart’s higher ups must be shipping bricks on the lost revenue)
*Edit we were told it was entire debit card system….

But just imagine how well the Deplorable Care Act will work!

This was just a trial run by Obama and his minions to see if their would be a riot… Someday soon, they will stop all of them. Can’t fight a war against the government that gave you everything if you are hungry.

  • Carrie McColl

how is this heartbreaking??? it is a glitch in the system literally. It was rude for the people to leave the carts full , you know how much food probably went to waste because of pissed people that wal mart had to clean up after…. geez. The people that left carts and threatened employees are A$$H*(#s.

  • Princess

I don’t see a whole lot of nutrition in ANY of those carts.

    • CJ Chadwick

Agreed, at least WIC has an approved list and only certain foods can be purchased with it.

and you see why so many Americans resemble manatees…

They lack the responsibility to make the proper decisions in life and end up having to get on welfare… Do you think they’re going to make healthy eating decisions?

      please.

Poor babies, couldn’t get free stuff so now they’re angry.

  • Larry Rappaport

Look how quickly Obama can control tens of millions of citizens. This entire constituency can be brought to their knees within hours. This is the message Obama continues to send out but yet these people are clueless. There is a specific group of folks where these entitlements were intended. The others, White, Black, Yellow or Green need to be identified and placed into some ROP type work system if they are able bodied which 89% are. This just one day…..keep this in mind people.

I’m guessing many of those comments came from their smartphones tweeted right there next to their overfilled carts….

  • donkenall

Do you understand now what will happen if there is a breakdown in civility in America? If the trucks stop running or the electric grid shuts down? There is a “Nine meals to anarchy” theory that just three days without food (nine meals for some) will create chaos, anarchy, murder, mob rule, riots, and inner city collapse. THAT is what you get when you are entirely DEPENDENT upon government and OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY.

  • Charlie K Crum

Did you know most collage students qualify for food stamps,

    • Walter Sobchak

      well let’s see….
      1. Most are broke
      2. Mostly vote democrat

Eventually this will happen and it won’t be a ‘glitch’……..the ever-growing dependent class is completely unsustainable, and when it happens, you better be prepared, especially if you live in urban areas. Lock and load!

  • jabberwocky

What the hell has happened to this country

  • jaariel

The real worry is what will happen when Obama REALLY shuts down welfare/EBT as a political ploy. Millions will riot. Obama will blame Republicans & there will be class & race riots in the streets. Perfect excuse for martial law. Socialist lefties have been furiously adding to the welfare rolls from LBJ til now, creating a permanent, easily manipulated underclass that can be counted on to riot when their strings are pulled. What will we do then?

  • LynnnDeee

Food stamps are used to buy cakes, cookies, ice cream, candy, soda, energy drink, and in some states, fast food. This is how democrats buy votes. Food stamps should only be used to buy beans, rice, and powdered milk, which are very healthy and very cheap. If you want steak and ice cream, get a job.

    • chestina staton

Who said they didn’t have a job??

  • TonyMitch

Good let them go hungry. maybe they will get off their sorry asses and try to support their own families. EBT (Eat Better Tonight) these frigin people eat better than most working Americans. Yes most tof them have Obama phones, ipods, flat screen tv’s. I have zero sympathy for baby producing deadbeats that lay on their backs and mass produce kids. so they can sit on their asses all day while many of us bust are asses to make ends meet.

    • chestina staton

Ignorance..not everyone who has food stamps is lazy! maybe you don’t know how the program works, but living in Colorado you have to work, attend school or volunteer 40 hours per week! Learn something before assuming!

      • TonyMitch

Remember Obama changed the standards and states were able to adopt them. Where work included going to a gym to workout, take a yoga class, take a course and  online (which taxpayers are probably paying for) volunteering is a joke because all you need is a person to sign you off on it. You don’t have to show up. There are other criteria that has been set and still mean you don’t have to do shit but have kids to get EBT. Now, I will grant you there are those that make minimum wage and some elderly that need this help. But, they get soo little in help it makes me laugh. The deabeat baby producers still have the monopoly on scamming the taxpayer and liberal politicians love it. Keep your constituents fat, lazy, stupid and pregnant and you will get the votes.

Just a little snapshot of what the real meltdown will look like. They ARE going to run out of other people’s money eventually. And they want to take people’s guns away?

  • ken clute

This was reported yesterday as a glitch in Xerox Corporation’s data backup system, it is not because of the Government shutdown. It is more likely that it was caused by the cyclone that hit India…that’s where all of the IT tech support people are, right?

get a JOB and carry some cash around….it always works.

    • chestina staton

if they have jobs then why do they have food stamps genius?

        • chestina staton

Obviously GENIUS they qualify for them! Duh, guy..Just because you made or make more then the average american household does and are able to provide food and pay all of the bills doesn’t mean everyone else is! So now what GENIUS..maybe youre not a genius because that reply was IGNORANT!

          • Walter Sobchak

then get a better job…oh wait…you’ll give me some lib excuse. move along troll.

          • Kickass Conservative

  • j p✓ʳᵉᶠʳᶦᵉᵈ

It would be interesting to analyze the contents of those abandoned carts. My guess is that there are many things I couldn’t bring myself to afford on the salary I have been working 40 years to attain. Be a good job for Michelle to check to see that they are buying only healthy stuff. Michelle, get moving!

    • qwerty_4321

apart from bottled water (what? tap water isn’t good enough for you), I’m sure there are plenty of luxury items we, the tax payer wouldn’t even consider spending money on.

  • ShockTheVote

This is HALF the story. The Obamabot Welfare Parasites discovered there were NO LIMITS on their welfare cards so they tried to clear the Store until the limits (and the Cops) appeared, that’s when the shopping carts were left behind.
Welfaremart corporate told management they wouldn’t press charges when some were caught and detained, in one instance reportedly attempting to commit Grand Larceny by purchasing $700 on a card with 49¢ on it! If a working person tried to do that with a credit card Wallymart would throw their behinds in prison.

Aside from ripping off shareholders WMT management are once again endangering the safety working, paying families by allowing Looting scenarios in their stores.

    • chestina staton

Where is that story at?? Please guide me to that..Because you seem to be the only one who knows that.

      • qwerty_4321

really? I know it as I read it in several other reports. Since you’re too lazy or ignorant to figure it out on your own … http://lmgtfy.com/?q=walmart+ebt+700+49
        You’re welcome

        • Kickass Conservative

See? There you go, just giving her stuff that she didn’t have to do for herself. Now how’s she ever gonna learn?

  • j p✓ʳᵉᶠʳᶦᵉᵈ

I thought I saw a story yesterday on how the system was malfunctioning and setting no limit on the cards somewhere and the people were going crazy loading up multiple carts. Didn’t hear how many got away with their bloated “purchases”. If this is the case they should track them down and remove them from the system for theft of services. We could arrest them but that would cost us even more. Probably cost more to deport them too. I wish the theft and fraud by the rich and powerful could also be so graphically depicted. Grunts like me in the middle get to work our lives away to fund both ends.

  • neoface

You know what, most people who are using the EBT cards are grossly over weight, I would think they can live off of their fat for a few month.
Now imagine if the government would actually cut or abolish these entitlements. You ain’t seen nothing yet!!! Greece rang the bell???

    • cmazzJK

I’m not too worried about obese people rioting, they obviously lack the desire to get off the couch let alone march around briskly and cause chaos.

  • milli

You people are such assholes. Its real easy to talk shit about a person for getting help from the government when you have nothing to worry about. I’d like to see how things would pan out if the shoe was on the other foot. And for every idiot that’s on here claiming that people shouldn’t breed em if you can’t feed em can kiss my ass, that is some natural bullshit. If anyone shouldn’t have been bred its those cunt suckers of yours that your also teaching to down and belittle people. All children are a blessing and I’m sure that parents who struggle are raising their children better than the cock suckers who don’t because they don’t appreciate shit, what makes you think they’ll teach their kids too. Its insulting and heart breaking to see how we treat each other. We are doing exactly what the government wants us to do, choose sides when we should all be standing up together to get what is right for OUR country. Instead you assholes sit on here and bash people who get EBT. Your ass might need it one day so loosen up your butt cheeks and stop being so critical.

    • KillCommies

The organized Left’s puppet, Obama has done what he set out to do: divide the people. Next up: conquer.

    • CJ Chadwick

What is “right” for our country is to not have leeches on the system that are too lazy to get up and do something. For those that actually need it is why I pay taxes but so many abuse it. All you are doing is whining and crying to us with your liberal spew.
