The “tonight’s news” referred to by The New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza comes via the New York Times:

News Corporation said on Sunday that it had no record of being notified by the Justice Department nearly three years ago of a subpoena for the telephone records of a reporter at its Fox News cable channel [James Rosen].

The company’s chief legal counsel at the time also said that he had never seen material from the government related to the subpoena.

Lawrence A. Jacobs, who was News Corporation’s chief legal officer until he left in June 2011, said he never saw a notification about the phone records.

“I would have remembered getting a fax from the Justice Department,” Mr. Jacobs said in an interview Sunday. “These are not the kinds of things that happen every day.”

Previous media reports indicated that DOJ had notified News Corp.

Something smells fishy.

One thing is for sure. It’s going to be hard to portray Ryan Lizza as a member of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy:

  • Kyle Andrulonis

Lizza is going to be cut off from the White House within the week

    • Jd1367

Right after they get all his phone records, private emails and tap the phones of anyone he may know

      • angeleyez

This is worse than LBJ losing Walter Cronkite.
Are they going to tell Obama ?

        • GoSellCrazySomeplaceElse

          • RogueRose

He’ll see it in the news..

Do they let him watch the news?

  • Steve_J

Holder’s DOJ is lying? I am shocked.

  • Bill Board

Fox News’ notification is probably stuck to Eric Holders’ recusal letter.

    • rennyangel2

      The bottom of his shoe.

  • Sean

    Damn low-level clerks.

  • HARP2

Gee…do you think that DOJ Would lie ?

  • HARP2

Excuse me but wouldn`t a letter like that need to be signed for ?

  • stuckinIL4now

It was shredded by the DOJ along with Obamuh’s Indonesian passport.

    • BRobCleveland

You cannot “shred” an e-mail. All e-mails sent after 9/11 are stored SOMEWHERE. If the e-mail was sent, Fox News can certainly find it. The fax . . . the certified mail . . . probably harder to track. But not e-mail.

  • TocksNedlog

Gee, someone should maybe ask the DOJ to prove their claims, eh?

    • creeper

Yes! This! Given their proven history of lying, Congress should refuse to accept any testimony that is not backed up by physical evidence.

“Mr. Holder, please produce your letter of recusal. Also, please produce proof of service of the Rosen records subpoena. Also, please produce tracking information on the F&F guns. All further testimony from will be considered unreliable without independent corroboration.”

Yeah, right. Can’t you see our RINOs doing that?

  • HolyCowRUKiddingme

Was Rosen only one of two at FOX ?

I bet there where LOTS more at FOX

The White House obviously HATES FOX

I hope this has a very BAD ENDING for the WH

    • spinwizard

I’ll bet there are lots more, EVERYWERE!

  • Steve

If the DOJ notified FOX three years go, I would assume they would have copies nd signed receipts by FOX for receiving them. Now let them produce them and prove FOX is lying. Why do I think this WONT happen.

    • BRobCleveland

I think the opposite — if Rosen did not get notice, why hasn’t he said so?

  • kate_middleton

Lizza’s right. If Fox/NewsCorp had known, they would have reported it ages ago.

  • tops116

Bombshell? No. It would’ve been more surprising if the DOJ did provide a notification of the Rosen subpoena. Still, it’s good to get this item out there.

  • MarkJMills

Holder: “I’m sure I mailed the letter to News Corp. on my way home that day – I remember it well, ’cause my wife asked me to pick up a quart of milk. Did the envelope have a stamp? I don’t know – jeez, am I supposed to keep track of every little detail?”

  • HARP2

When Holder is finished investigating himself, tell him to go F**K himself too.

  • sallyshep

Lizza is going to be audited.

  • rennyangel2

I hope ozero’s wheels are falling off. Maybe that would force him out of his limos, helicopters, Air Force One, and endless speeches and force him into the Oval Office for more than 10 mins. for a photo op and maybe get more presidential leadership from him. Or, maybe not. If he has learned nothing in the office yet, he never will.

    Whatevert KING FINK OBAMA, the Sheriff of Nottingholder, the DOJ, etc. are hiding, it won’t be long until it sees the light of Day, and Fox News is Vindicated (And the WHOLE ADMINISTRATION is Buried under a Federal Prison, somewhere…. ) #RightWard Jawamax 8<{D}

  • Tish

Never in my life have i been so jaded in response to my government. I find myself not believing a word they say.Sadley it has come to the point’ that even if they are telling the truth… i would not believe me the trust is broken beyond repair.

    • BRobCleveland

You do not have to “believe” anything they say. Just don’t create your own reality that is disconnected from facts.

It should be, if Fox pushes this, pretty easy to find out whether DoJ, as it claimed, “provided notification of those subpoenas nearly three years ago by certified mail, facsimile, and e-mail . . . to both News Corp and to the reporter, Rosen.”

And if they sent six notices total to Fox News, and Fox is so disorganized and poorly run that it cannot find them, well whose fault is that?

  • JustLikeAnimals

The Liar-in-Chief has long ago set a tone for his administration by his own words and actions. He has lied, misrepresented, obfuscated, and prevaricated on nearly every consequential issue of his administration.

He has always considered every action and outcome in terms of how it looks politically, without regard to how truthful it is.

How can he now act surprised that those around him behave in the same fashion?

It’s time for this low-class, low-integrity, low-intelligence buffoon to pack his bags and leave while he still can. If he sticks around much longer, he’s going to be impeached and very likely indicted, along with a very long list of his co-conspirators.

  • RememberSekhmet

They likely “told” News Corp in a way that downplayed the scope and intent of what they did. Probably in a way designed to look like the US was investigating phone tapping by Sky News after the British scandal. They “told” me my son was asked about an incident at school. They downplayed the part where he was cuffed, stuffed, and threatened with juvie, all with no parent or lawyer present.

  • $24698634

Except DOJ is not the White House.

  • BRobCleveland

From the Reuters article — ” . . . the government provided notification of those subpoenas nearly three years ago by certified mail, facsimile, and e-mail.”

“The official said notice went to both News Corp and to the reporter, Rosen.”

    * * * * *

Notice that Rosen has not said a thing about whether he received these three notices of subpoena. If he had not received them, I think we would know that. Meaning . . . yeah, he got them . . . .
