The Associated Press tweeted to its 1.6 million followers that Silvio Berlusconi, former Prime Minister of Italy, defended both Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

The article linked in the AP’s tweet makes clear, however, that Berlusconi did not defend Hitler. He defended Mussolini for allying himself with Hitler. That’s still an awful thing to say, but it’s a far cry from defending Hitler himself. How about a correction, AP?

Hitler was a pioneer in government anti smoking regulation. So, if someone supports that type of policy then they are a Nazi?

…and Berlusconi did not said that too! He said the opposite, ie that the alliance with Hitler was a mistake. He said also that the biggest mistake made by Mussolini were the racial laws that discriminate the Jews. The quarrel stemmed from the fact that Berlusconi added that Mussolini did good things too.

AP still has effusive praise for stalin allying himself with hitler.
