It is apparently a myth that the suicide rate rises during the holiday season. Nevertheless,  a disturbing number of Twitter users are claiming that they want to celebrate Christmas by killing themselves.

We assume most of these people are kidding. To any whose intentions are genuine, please seek help.

  • Mr. Grammar/SpellCkr

    I sincerely hope these people are not serious. If they are, I hope they get help soon.

  • Bob Cordon

    And these people think this is FUNNY? Really??!!

  • Jim De Arras

    Christmas without Jesus has no meaning.

  • Eric Ellis

    Hey , I might be bummed out today(missing my family) ,but I have an awesome NYE bash with old friends to look forward to!

    See folks, this is how these mass killings come to be. You have someone who has decided “not to be,” and then prepares for the big day that he is going to exit this world, and put his name in the news while he’s at it.

    Since these people do leave clues – increasingly and more obviously – as the big day draws nearer, anyone who spots one of these clues must say something to someone who can investigate and – if necessary – intervene.

    We’ll tomorrow if they followed through.Kind of like the Mayan watch.

  • Saint_Zero

    It’s a holiday, there’ll be one next year. Just relax and breathe. Nothing is permanent except death.

  • Rob Ramcharan

    Well, we’ll miss ’em. No. Not really.

  • JadedByPolitics

    I tell those who say they want to commit suicide that if they give it just 1 year more, their lives will change in ways that they will not want to do so and if it doesn’t then have at it. The weak and selfish will always find a way to do away w/themselves, lets just hope they don’t take anyone else with them.

  • JadedByPolitics

    all of the mass killers were known to be mentally unstable and yet because of the ACLU and their asinine lawsuits were left out on the streets to kill people, shrinks knew they were unstable, parents knew, the schools knew and yet they were allowed to continue on. The people speaking of suicide today on twitter need a visit from the police department in their State and the removal of any guns in their possession, that is the ONLY liberty of the 2nd Amendment I would agree to. If it is shown you are not mentally stable, hospitalization and NO GUNS for you.

    On that note, former military personnel are not to be included in that group until multiple NON-military or government psychiatrists say so.

    A Ballade of Suicide – a poem by G.K.Chesterton

    A Ballade of Suicide G.K. Chesterton

    The gallows in my garden, people say,
    Is new and neat and adequately tall;
    I tie the noose on in a knowing way
    As one that knots his necktie for a ball;
    But just as all the neighbours on the wall
    Are drawing a long breath to shout “Hurray!”
    The strangest whim has seized me. . .After all
    I think I will not hang myself to-day.

    To-morrow is the time I get my pay
    My uncle’s sword is hanging in the hall
    I see a little cloud all pink and grey
    Perhaps the rector’s mother will NOT call
    I fancy that I heard from Mr. Gall
    That mushrooms could be cooked another way
    I never read the works of Juvenal
    I think I will not hang myself to-day.

    The world will have another washing-day;
    The decadents decay;
    the pedants pall;
    And H.G. Wells has found that children play,
    And Bernard Shaw discovered that they squall;
    Rationalists are growing rational
    And through thick woods one finds a stream astray,
    So secret that the very sky seems small
    I think I will not hang myself to-day.

    Prince, I can hear the trumpet of Germinal,
    The tumbrils toiling up the terrible way;
    Even to-day your royal head may fall
    I think I will not hang myself to-day.

      I remember Elvis singing that in “Clambake.”

      • Sad Chestertonian

        I just checked the album track list for clambake, I am sad to say you are mistaken.

    Look at me! Look at me!

    We may not know what they’re going through or if they’re serious. I hope they’ll put more value on the precious gift of life and think that maybe those who have passed on in the same manner may be willing to give everything they can just to have the privilege of one more day to live…just saying.
