How strong is Reich’s animus toward the ultra-wealthy? Strong enough to tweet the same point twice:

He says boycotting the evil capitalist retailer is just the first step:

No justice, no peace!

Tweeters have a simple suggestion for Walmart employees: If you don’t like your job or what you’re getting paid, GO WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE.

And for anyone who is upset about having to work on Thanksgiving, remember this:

  • http://www.facebook.com/brett.mcmicken Brett McMicken

i tell you what, robert, you go out and open up a competing department store and advertise that you will be paying all your employees $20 per hour. quit being a whiner and start being a doer.

    • DeBaliviere

Hey, Li’l Bobby! Do it. America needs a chain of Fat & Short stores.

        heh.
wealth envy if you ask me. from the tone of his post, i think robert Smeagol just hate wealthy people. but of course he won’t say it outright. he has to play the “social” card.

        • Elaine

Why don’t the lazy a*holes just work harder toward improving their own economic status? That’s we all did and we were proud of our achievements and successes. OR just stay lazy with your hand out, I guess.

Reich and that ferret Paul Krugman could open a chain of idiots short and fat stores….

No shit, him and all the whiners around wailing about Papa John’s and Applebee’s, ya know, go out and open up your own businesses and show us brain dead right wing redneck teebaggerz the RIGHT way to run a store! It should be easy since you’re all such ffkkng experts.

What do you call a unionized WalMart?

    Sears

    • tredglx

Sears wishes they were as good as WalMart. I can’t stand shopping at Sears. If someone else sold Craftsman tools, I’d never step foot in a Sears store again but to relieve myself at the mall after one too many Cokes.

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

You and me both. I was just hearing about Sears problems and am hoping that Craftsman could become a separate entity that could find a home in a variety of stores. I still have my first tool kit that I got from them in 1975. I broke several screwdrivers and a wrench. Took them into different stores, never filled out one paper, no questions asked and walked out with replacements.

Hotels don’t close for holidays either, and working 3rd shift makes it doubly worse, since you get home the morning of the holiday, sleep all day, and then go back to work that evening. 15+ years in hospitality, and working 3 weeks over Christmas/New Years because the part-timer went on vacation for 2 weeks, well… these people can kwittehbitchin.

“The Federal government and public sector equal less than 15% of GDP and they PRIDE themselves on staying lean, efficient and out of the way of the private sector which creates the revenue for them to exist. The Fed. Gov. maintains our military as the most powerful in the world and stays out of our private lives. People are responsible for themselves again and nobody looks to the Fed. Gov. for all their wants and needs…”

  • JettieG

I haven’t heard any Wal-Mart employees complaining; it’s the lefties and the unions doing all the bi*ching.

    • Adela Wagner

I heard that walmart has one of the lowest turn over rates for workers. ALSO, if you are fresh out of high school and not going to college (or went to college and got screwed in the job market) it’s a good place for your first real job.

      • JettieG

News reports says 75% of WM mgmt posts are internal promos. A friend in Seattle worked at WM: started as a clerk, then cashier, asst mgr, mgr and store mgr after three years! Don’t shop there often, but the clerks are mostly pleasant and it ain’t easy with the many a-hole customers I’ve seen there. This is just a dig by lefties and unions coz they look at the total profit line and say rich, filthy capitalist! Break it down per store and it’s not that much. Companies are not like libbie govts that spend $20 for a widget and then sell it to the public for $8,50. (Not that govt sells widgets, but you get my drift.) :)

    • Gallatin

Exactly, the unions have failed to unionize Walmart so they have to keep showing their behinds.

      • JettieG

Yessir, Gallatin. Union tried to organize a nightclub I worked at long ago; we told them to FO. Boss gave us raises and took us all for a big bash. Sheesh, unionize a nightclub? Probably make me take scheduled breaks during my big-tipping rush hour crowd and ban me from picking up empties. :)

How much is Rob 3rd Reich’s net worth? 4 million?

If you can’t pay your bills Robert Reich stole your money…A source I cannot name has confirmed this. He has not produced any documents proving otherwise.

Walmart got theirs from customers looking to save money.

  • D. A. Dyer

Reich and Krugman and other leftist economists speciously choose to ignore the benefit to millions of American workers who have jobs because Walmart’s low prices allow their customers to buy things they couldn’t afford to buy otherwise…and more of them!

  • Capt_Twang

Reich is secretly hoping that “redistribute the wealth”, will somehow morph into ‘redistribute the height’. He is a bitter and vain little man, his hate for America has grown,..but he hasn’t.

  • DeBaliviere

We could fix the statistics by deporting the bottom 41.5% Would you be happy then, Li’l Smurf?

  • Jerry J Brown

Really? How much skill does it take to work at Walmart. Training done in a week, $11 bux is a lot for that. It’s no different than working at a supermarket or McDonalds. They promote from within, when you get into management and have responsibilities, then you can make decent money. Go learn a ttrade or spend 4 yrs in school if you want to get pd better. Jeez. Go away.

  • Jack Deth

Well, consider that Walmart does provide a service which allows people with liquid monetary assets to spend during a weeks long window before Christmas. A weeks long window that Walmart does rely on.

What the “Big F’ing Deal”?… To quote Joe Biden.

I worked through many a Thanksgiving, Christmas and Fourth of July. If Walmart employees think that they can find comparable work after turning in the walking papers. Then have at it….

No, wait. Thanks to Obama’s War on the Middle Class and Small Businesses, they can’t!

  • http://twitter.com/bloodyhellmate Craig Edwards

Robert Reich is a lot like Noam Chomsky, only Chomsky is a renown Linguist that is considered a political expert for his dabbling in ‘Far Left Pseudo-Political Psychobabble’.

Reich on the other hand is taken far too seriously as a political expert for his ‘Far Left Pseudo-Political Psychobabble’.

  • Adela Wagner

Taking the opportunities this country provides you and making something of yourself, and sometimes becoming stinky RICH because of all that, then taking that wealth and providing jobs for others, is about THE MOST PATRIOTIC thing you can do in this country! There ARE other countries Robert, where you might feel more comfy.

Robert Reich. Still mad that Donna Shalala is taller than him.

    • DeBaliviere

And Donna has a bigger johnson, too.

  • disappearing moderate

I am so tired of retail bashing. Millions shop at Walmart because of the value and the convenience. Even though they do carry some petites, I don’t think Robert shops there because he doesn’t have to worry about stretching his paycheck like most of us do. Lots of people actually want part time work, students, moms who want to get the kids off to school or be there when they get home and those who want second jobs for whatever reason. If you apply yourself and stick around a bit, you’ll get promoted in retail and can make a very decent living without the benefit of a degree or specialized skill. Walmart has many more applicants than open positions. The disgruntled few can walk if they want. I don’t think there are many in that category. Most of this noise is being made by union organizers ready to squeeze both the employees and the company and the addle brained like Reich.

  • riddler1620

How does boycotting Walmart help Walmart employees exactly. Enough boycotts and Walmart employees will start losing jobs due to a lack of demand. And to any Walmart employee who feels they are mistreated or under appreciated, feel free to quit and try your luck somewhere else.

  • Gallatin

Robby what exactly is your point concerning the Walton family wealth? Because I fail to see it. How about this interpretation of the Walton family wealth—they have done more for the poor and the middle class in this country than the two putzes you worship–obowmao and slick willy. Sam Walton brought variety and low prices to Wal-Mart shoppers. Why don’t you ask that clown in the White House when he is going to bust the unions in Chicago so low prices can come to poor and middle class neighborhoods there.

  • wwbdinct
