As Twitchy reported several days ago, the widely-noted death of 4-year old Palestinian boy Mohammed Sadallah appears to have been the result of a misfired Hamas rocket, not an Israeli bomb.

CNN’s Sara Sidner was among the first to spread the unsubstantiated story. Her video about the incident is here.   Granted, Sidner did not state explicitly that Sadallah was killed by a Israeli military forces, but she strongly suggested it:

  • About 50 seconds into the video, Sidner refers to Sadallah playing “when the bomb fell.” This is not language one uses to refer to an errant missile.
  • At about 1:03 she refers to the incident as “an attack.”
  • At about 1:16 everyone scurries away because they hear “another plane” overhead.  None of the Palestinians want to be hit by “another airstrike.”
  • At about 1:23 Sidner announces that she is fleeing the area because she fears more airstrikes.

The strong implication of all this is that an Israeli fighter jet dropped the bomb that killed the little boy.

We now know that this almost certainly did not happen.  Even CNN anchor Don Lemon appeared to acknowledge that a misfired Hamas missile was probably responsible for Sadallah’s death.

After Twitchy and several tweeters called on Sidner to retract the story, she acknowledged that a Hamas missile might have caused the boy’s death and noted that she had run an “update” to her video:

Yes, a brief overdub has been added to the video stating that Israel denies killing the Palestinian boy.

An update is progress, but Sidner’s entire report was based on a unsubstantiated premise. The right thing to do is run a formal retraction and remove the video from CNN’s web site.

How is it these people are on television? How does it feel to constantly lie? How do they keep track of the lies? How do they sleep at night?

    • TugboatPhil

They don’t actually “sleep.” They hang upside down in a shrine to Obama and chant “Forward, Forward, Forward….” all night.

  • MoxieLouise

The word games going on with the media right now are unreal. “Update” because it sounds so much more innocent than “retraction”. “The boy’s death appears to have been caused by a misfired Hamas rocket” becomes “Was it a militant rocket?”,leaving far more doubt; and the story was “updated” when the Israeli military “said” they had no airstrikes that day. So I guess we’re supposed to infer that it’s quite possible that Israel DID kill the boy. Don’tcha just love honest reporting?

CNN is a disgrace to America.

    • JimmyNeutron

I actually think that CNN is more destructive than MSNBC. With MSNBC they don’t even make an attempt to be fair – their bias is obvious like Fox. With CNN, they are almost as biased as MSNBC, yet they try to convince that they are unbiased – that’s worse. Lots of lemmings (read that as: independents and moderates) can be fooled.

      • plower

CNN may be a close second. But nothing could possibly be worse than MSNBC.

        • Arlene

National boycott of sponsors…when ratings drop, maybe they will get the message?

      • Teresa Davis McCormick

yes I think you’re right. It’s scary to think of people relying on CNN or MSNBC as their only source of news.

    • coppersmom

so Teresa, as a free American in a capitalist society, you should know what to do about it. Hint: don’t watch.

      • Teresa Davis McCormick

I watch them all. And decide for myself. That’s the only way to stay ahead of the game.

  • Deserto Vulpes

The AlQassam Brigades twitter account is following only seven others. Six propaganda accounts plus CNN. ‘Nuff said.

  • Chris Mackey

Wow! CNN stated a story that isn’t based on fact. What a shock! I actually wish it was a shock, but unfortunately, that seems to be the sad trait of CNN and many news outlets nowadays. A journalist’s job is to follow the facts and to report them, no matter where they lead. CNN sucks monkey nuts

  • JustLikeAnimals

    CNN= Co-opted News Network

If you think what you see is bad, try watching CNN International for a day. Wow.
I lived abroad for 22 years and couldn’t stomach more than 10-15 minutes of the anti-American diarrhea they spew on CNNi. Truly disturbing.

And in fairness, I can’t stand the extreme views of some of FOX’s on-air personalities either. But at least they put them on their magazine shows and don’t prop them up as news “anchors” or “reporters.”

I recall a “commercial” that ran on CNN a few years ago with Christiane Amanpour, in which she said, “We’ll report the stories, tell you what it means, and why it’s important to you.” The suggestion being “you aren’t smart enough or thoughtful enough to figure this out on your own.” I found that very disturbing. Such a partronizing, condescending attitude at CNN, and most other MSM as well.

I hate what the news media has turned into. Just give me the facts, unvarnished, unfiltered, “un-editorialized, and I’ll figure out for myself if it’s important to me and what it means to me.

Why is that too much to ask?

U.S. Farm Report. If you’re lucky and can tune to RFD-TV, the type of news and programing are on topics that liberals cant handle, like real actual work.

Christiane Amanpour knows more about the truth of what forces are at play in the Middle East in her little toe toenail, than you could acquire in seventy lifetimes.

      • Teresa Davis McCormick

yes because you’ve given both sides a test to see which one knows more. I think maybe you should stop insulting people until you know what you’re talking about.

  • Jamal22

Why does this continue to surprise thinking Americans? CNN is liberal; and being so, they are excused from telling the truth.

    • coppersmom

so you think that of the nearly two hundred Palestinians killed by the Israelis, there were no four year olds? really? So, is it “liberal” to report the actual death count?

Sara Snider responsible for what happened to that kid. A source I cannot name confirmed this. She has not produced any documents proving otherwise as of the time of this posting.

we need to start our own news channel. rofl

  • John Kerry’s Forehead

Fuck CNN. Bought and paid for STORIES, not real news. Ask Amber Lyon. Go ahead, Google Amber Lyon. Award winning journalist who still has integrity.

The Onion has more real news than CNN.

  • GoSellCrazySomeplaceElse

Google Amber Lyon, three-time emmy-award winning journalist for CNN. She was let go because she discovered CNN was getting paid by WH and others, i.e., muslim brotherhood. She was ordered to lie and/or not report negative news. I doubt CNN is alone in this govt. bribery.

    • Teresa Davis McCormick

and in any other era that would be huge news in itself. But sadly not here. Pisses me off.
