Because that’s how NBC rolls.

Last night Twitchy told you about some of the idiocy that sent #NBCFail trending once again. But this one deserves its own post.

An NBC exec said the network aired the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics on tape-delay to give the event the “context” and “pageantry it deserves.” In addition to the “context” of calling decades of communism a “pivotal experiment,” Deadspin reports that NBC made this editorial decision for American viewers:

Was that for “context” or “pageantry”? More from Deadspin:

Russia’s anti-gay laws have been a major focus in the lead-up to the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, and during his address at today’s opening ceremony IOC president Thomas Bach made a strong statement against “any form of discrimination” and in favor of tolerance. Viewers worldwide heard the statement; NBC viewers in the U.S. did not, because the network edited it out.

Deadspin has video and a transcript of Bach’s address with the scrubbed portion included.

NBC cuts Olympics tribute to 7/7 victims; airs Michael Phelps interview instead

I don’t understand why they’d do something like that. If they aren’t careful they could leave viewers with the impression they have an agenda.

    • Jack Deth

      “Time constraints”?

How many hours of “time constraints” did NBC, CBS and ABC burn through while covering the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo launches during the Space Race?

      Ooops, can I say “race”?

      • ToyZebra

Time constraints is a ridiculous excuse. It’s their network. They plan the programming. They could broadcast twenty-four hours of a cow chewing its cud if they wanted to.

        • OLLPOH ~ OurLifeLiberty

So, instead of cow cud, we get cow ______?

N B C is bragging-up the fact they’re going to air over 1,500 hours of programming on all of their channels, combined.
This excuse is pure, unadulterated Bu!!Sh!t.

    • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

An NBC corporate-umbrella entity having an agenda? Well I never! Quelle horreur! Oh, the humanity! (*Clutches pearls*swoons*)

Even if they didn’t scrub the statement, they probably would’ve just talked over it like they did everything else. Or just ignored it.

Remember when NBC and others fawned over Obama for being “open to the idea” of gay marriage?

Oh well, I hope liberals can see the irony of all this from their backyards. 😉

  • Ice Cold Troll

Hey, everybody remember when the Collaborationist Media were all distraught and indignant over how the Chinese government was prohibiting religious “propaganda” at the Peking Olympics?

    Yeah, me neither.

    • Isahiah62

No but I remember when Obama “evolved” into liking gay marriage (I also remember he was against it before he was pandering for voters) –

and then in a now famous speech in Cairo he blasted all the Muslim nations for persecuting & Killing gays, Christians, Bahais, Sikhs and Sufis and women-

      OH WAIT

  • GaryTheBrave

Maybe I misunderstood the law. What I thought the law states is that gays cannot “proselytize” their lifestyle to children (whatever age range that may be) nor can they display their affections when children are present.

    • CoastalMaineBird

That is indeed the law, but if you talk that up, you can’t claim victimhood as easily.

  • Charm7

If you can get Canadian television (CBET) nothing was delayed or edited for the opening ceremonies. I watched at 10am est Friday. Maybe try online.

    • minnesota man

comcast here in Minnesota did not block that statement

Phonies NBC is being run by a bunch of phonies.

a-hah…you fell into our trap!!(Just grins and giggles, FrozenT)…

            chalk up another victory ;’)

  • Thom Harris

Now, now people. When NBC gets the glorious Social republic here in the United States that they have spent the last five years working on, they don’t want to be the first in front of the firing squad. This means they have to appease the Socialist Headquarters in both Russia and China. They don’t have enough talent to do everything (they hardly have enough talent to do anything), so they can only appease one master at a time. Shame on all of you for being so hard on the untalented.

  • Epa Minondas

  • BoscoBolt

Well, the “theme” of state-run NBC’s coverage of the games is Putin’s supposed hatred of gays, so, of course they aren’t going to air anything that would counter that argument.

  • Epa Minondas

    Calling Rachel Maddow

    • SonofLiberty

Just drag a strap on in front of 30 Rock. 😉

  • LinTaylor ✓vitrified

Those poor babies at NBC must be conflicted – they’re being forced to choose between their love of diversity and their love of socialism. For them, it’s a lot like Sophie’s Choice.

    • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Right now, on that painful quandary, they’re probably in a sort of Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell mode.

  • Watcher3568

Maybe we should revisit that blurb about ” a free and independent press is vital to” what exactly? When the Present feels it necessary to lie and the press agrees where can the we the people turn for the truth

  • TowardsTheFire

Wait… When did Walter Duranty get a job as an editing exec at NBC?

  • porgiefirefighter

Remember the good old days when socialism and gay rights were the same thing.

  • Robert M. Finklea

I would forgive this if they would actually get their heads out of their asses when it comes to making a website and streaming the events live(missed over half of first run of womens mogul finals)

  • Mark_Melrose

Loved the way political suck up Bob Costas said ‘no politics’ – then proceeded to mention, politics. Followed by…..Matt Lauer! saying the same thing, as he introduced Obeiber. Yea. NBC: Pure sports coverage!

  • Casca

I stopped at the post that says ” Talent at MSNBC”….
    I couldn’t stop laughing !

  • TocksNedlog

You will not hear one peep about this from the ‘talent’ at MSNBC.

  • Zefal

If the IOC didn’t want NBC to censor it out then the IOC should have directed their condemnation towards the Republican party and the Catholic church!

  • Cpt. States

Although liberty offers a history of prosperity, we must always be on watch for despotic designs conjured up as appeals to emotional whims.
