Poor Zack Morris.

The old school tech on Barry Blitt’s Obamacare “reboot” cover for The New Yorker is cracking up the Twitterverse today.

Suitable for framing?

  • traffic_robot

While the cover is funny, this is about something more than a website. The whole thing is unworkable. The marketplace has been sent into a tizz.

    • ObamaFail

I read that some top hospitals are opting out of Obamacare, which is the first sign of what the overall healthcare system will be like once Obamacare takes effect. http://www.ijreview.com/2013/10/91327-oh-cool-now-nations-top-hospitals-opting-obamacare/

    • nc ✓s & balances

Agreed, but this is not an “either/or” situation. We are at the beginning of an educational campaign for LIVs and softcore Dems, and the spectacular website failure is a great introduction.

      • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Thank you for avoiding “teachable moment.”

        • nc ✓s & balances

We need way more than just a “moment” to counter their decades of propaganda, but I get your point, and thx.

    • http://lordfoggybottom.com/ BlahBlah

I just consulted my abacus and I think you’re wrong.

  • ObamaFail

I don’t know what’s funnier, Sebelius with her fingers crossed or their IT guy using a floppy disk

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

I liked the hammer on the desk. That’s my kind of IT work.

      • mike_in_kosovo

        Percussive maintenance for the win!

    • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

      Not just a floppy . . . a 5 1/4″ floppy . . . not one of those new-fangled 3 1/2″ floppies.

      • IfYouHaveToAsk

Are you sure it wasn’t an 8″ floppy?

        • Markward

Magnetic tape. (I know its a floppy on the cover, I’m just going back in time)

        • http://commentspammersmustdie.blogspot.com/ Kakarot

Not unless that IT dude has a hand the size of a platter.

Although I will admit it LOOKS a lot like an 8″ floppy.

        • Jay Stevens

          Yep. It’s a 5 1/4.

    • http://baldilocks-talking.blogspot.com/ Juliette Akinyi Ochieng

      The phone.

      • http://commentspammersmustdie.blogspot.com/ Kakarot

        The phone, Boss, The Phone!

(with apologies to any Fantasy Island fans out there)

    • TocksNedlog

      The hammer and screwdriver

      • nc ✓s & balances

Perfect symbols for what they’re doing to the American People.

      • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

As the British “blue” comedian of the WWII era, Max Miller, might have put it:

“They say ‘When all you have is a hammer, the whole world looks like a bunch of nails begging to be hammered’– what happens when all you have is a screwdriver? Oh– oh, you filthy-minded people, that’s not what I meant– I’ve a good mind to report you, I do!”

        • TocksNedlog

When it comes to the implementation of Obamacare, the more appropriate image would be hammer & tongs.

      • Suzyqpie

A slide rule would have been another fine accuretrement.

    • CatHerder ✓fire! ✓fire!

Like the grandfather clock in the background.

      • nc ✓s & balances

        I missed that! Thank you!

      • arttie

And a dotmatrix printer with folded green bar paper.

        • Markward

          I thought it was seeing a PS/2 connector, DB-25 and DB-9 connector. I think there was a RJ-11.

    • Deborah Hallsted

I thought that was supposed to be Jay Carney

  • Markward

    is that a DB-25 connector I see?

    • Chevypowered

For a moment I thought it was my old Tandy 1000HX set up.

    • SJ’s Dad

      Mr Mompants sez:
“Yeah, well, you know, DB-25/DB-26, whatever it takes!”

    • mike_in_kosovo

Parallel port for the dot-matrix printer

      • Markward

I was thinking of 14.4kb modem

        • mike_in_kosovo

Modems were rj-11 in/out, predominantly… although I had a 300 baud modem waaaaaaay back in the day that was a serial connection to the computer.

          • Markward

RJ-11 in/out on the phone line, but it connects to the MB through a parallel port which is the COM port, IIRC.

          • mike_in_kosovo

For an external modem, yes… parallel or serial connection to the computer. Internal modems would be rj-11 in/out.

Of course, we’re completely excusing the lack of any connections to the standalone monitor (no power or video cable)…. ;oP

  • NRPax

So the New Yorker is now racist? Who knew?!

    • ObamaFail

Michael S. and the other liberal trolls who come here to defend Obama probably really do think it’s racist.

      • NRPax

I notice he’s been awfully quiet as of late. Not that I miss his racist ramblings. I’m just making an observation.

        • ObamaFail

I think they’re all sitting around moping that there’s no real way to blame Obamacare, the joke that keeps on giving, on Republicans.

          • NRPax

If one Republican had voted for it, he’d be here wondering why we weren’t attacking him or her. Especially if they were white, at which point he “would know the reason why.”

          • ObamaFail

If any Republican had voted for it, we’d be calling them a RINO and talking about using a primary to boot their ass out of office.

          • algonquinmatt

this cover art does a good job ‘covering up’ Obama’s skin color.

when things go bad, it’s the white side of Obama who is responsible.

          • NRPax

You’re jumping to a conclusion that he would be responsible for anything.

    • Fire and Adjust!

Well, there is a female in there too so don’t forget misogynist…….. and because she is older it also means they are ageist

    • nc ✓s & balances
      • NRPax

True, but that was an “obvious parody that we poor souls could not possibly grasp.”

  • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Sadly, that old-school computer and “brick” phone are better and still more workable, even in 2013, than Obamacare ever will be.

    • ObamaFail

Because the people who made those at least had the common sense to make sure they worked before they put them out there for people to buy.

      • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Voltaire: “Common sense is not all that common.”

        • ObamaFail

Common Sense has become so rare that it’s now considered a super power

          • Chevypowered

Ah, Deadpool. Breaker of the 4th wall!

          • Markward

            “Screw gravity, I’m Deadpool!”

          • Markward

Up vote because of Deadpool. Nuff said.

          • Deborah Hallsted

Love this, been saying it for a few years. Spot-on!

  • Fire and Adjust!

He sure has no problem getting a fundraising site up and running
quickly. He has no problem getting a campaign site up and running. He
has no problem hacking and spying on Americans and even foreign
diplomats (who, no doubt, have the most secure communications networks
available)………….thus he surely has the technological resources to accomplish a database website……………yet his legacy’s signature rollout fails
miserably……………. did he just not care enough to make this website successful (which means he simply doesn’t care about getting people healthcare) or did he intentionally want the healthcare site to fail?

    • ObamaFail

It’s Obama, so anything that makes things bad for the American people is what he’s going to go with.

    • algonquinmatt

“.. surely has the technological resources”

How soon we forget that one of the many fabulous things about Barack Obama was that he is the most ‘tech savvy president ever’

Yet, when this debacle happens, Joe Biden is quick to point out that him and Obama aren’t ‘tech geeks’.

You can’t have it both ways.

      • Markward

He’s the user who believes he is smart enough to get himself into trouble, and stupid enough to not get himself out.

Those are the most annoying users to have to work with.

    • GaryTheBrave

Excellent point. His campaign against Romney was touted as one of the most high tech campaigns ever particularly the GOTV on election day.

  • Garrett Gripling

    “A learning computer…”

  • TocksNedlog

This cover is, of course, complete fiction.
    .
There’s no evidence that Sebelius ever worried or cared about whether or not the thing was going to work.
    “Whatever.”

    • ObamaFail

The Obama part is truthful. I’m assuming he’s on the phone having a friendly chat with the Iranian leader.

    • drw

I heard that her biggest concern today is the pool party the odramas are throwing tonight.
And yes, the mental image of moochie and cathy in string bikinis and barry in a speedo were intentional. Payback’s a bitch.

  • TocksNedlog

Should’ve had Biden in the background, playing with one of these:

    • drw

He’s invited to the pool party as well.

      (Okay, I’m done, I think you’ve suffered enough :)

    • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

Hey, I loved those. Mine was green. And didn’t say “classic”.

      • TocksNedlog

        Ahh, memories . . .

      • Jeff

The green one was the 2nd generation, it had the “pass” feature. I played both of these a lot as a kid. We even had a league on our school bus.

  • Matt

If you want something done, call the NSA.

    • ObamaFail

I think they’re too busy spying on leaders of foreign nations. Which Obama TOTALLY has no clue they are doing until he hears it on the news!!

  • Acethepug

Oh, dear. If there’s one thing President Petulant doesn’t like, it’s ridicule.

Now, it’s incredibly appropriate, but this thin-skinned Emperor (with no clothes) happens to be very petty and vengeful (“Vote for revenge”)

Sadly, expect incoming audits for The New Yorker … stay safe!

    • ObamaFail

And CNN now that they’ve reported that the Senate Dems backed the provisions of Obamacare that have led to people losing insurance.

    • fanofamerica

When I saw this my first thought was this ridicule is what will get Sebelius fired.

      • Jay Stevens

Although she said she was responsible, I did not hear her promise to resign if she doesn’t meet the O’Care repair deadline.

  • $41798064

    Today’s kids won’t get it.

  • arttie

It needs a couple of cockroaches crawling out of the back of the computer.

    • Turd Burglestein

There’s already 2 cockroaches standing in front of the computer.

      • Klankity

        3 actually

  • Morneau_for_4

So Jay Carney would be Screech then, right?

  • John

They should show Biden in the background playing Atari…

  • Mister A

The tools next to the computer are hilarious. Oh, and there’s a hammer and a screwdriver there too.

    • stuckinIL4now

      A hammer but no sickle?

  • Jimni27

Isn’t floppy disk guy Jay Carney?

    • ObamaFail

Now that you mention it, it just might be.

      • Jimni27

        He’s got that sneer, lol.

        • nc ✓s & balances

          That’s the giveaway.

    • nc ✓s & balances

      Another great catch! Thank you!

  • HanaFiveO

I laughed. About sums things up.

  • monsterdog

People pay $6.99 for The New Yorker? Srsly? Wow.

  • rwnutjob

If you have lost the New Yorker…

  • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

It IS insulting to Zach. Zach’s schemes tended to work…

  • Jay Stevens

Note the symbology of a young whiz-kid trying to fix the computer.

    • stellatruman

I thought that was supposed to be Jay Carney

  • tjp77

Gotta love the old-school PC and 5.25″ floppy. Ha!

  • Perplexed

LOL!! I love the hammer and screwdriver laying there. Plans C,D,And E
