Let’s review what we learned yesterday:

Looks like the oh-so-essential barricade engineers are still hard at work in D.C. The Weekly Standard’s John McCormack reports on government shutdown activities at the Second Infantry Division Memorial. The memorial is closed … except for “1st Amendment activities.”

So, First Amendment activities like these, huh?

The absurdity of the barricade is only eclipsed by the bizarre sign.

Hmm:

For the record:

Exit burn:

  • Jake Wilde

My country ’tis of thee. We have enemies of the state in the WH…..

  • Bruce Musto

Take a copy of the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence and stand next to memorial and read it. Freedom of speech.

    • Andy from Beaverton

In certain areas of this country, it’s illegal to pass out a copy of the constitution.

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

Even if it’s on Constitution Day!

        http://thefire.org/article/16246.html

        • Stephen L. Hall

Well, are you sure Constitution Day is Constitutional?

          • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

            Not on college campi.

  • SFerggie

Gee, could the same dumbass government employee putting out the barricades let the folks check out the normally unguarded memorials? Are the citizens of this country that stupid not to see this is a Liberal / Government Employee scam to try and slam
the republicans (besides Liberals because we know they are).

  • nc ✓s & balances

Sounds like maybe somebody got a letter from an attorney?

  • kch50428

Someone needs to print up a bunch of post-its with “It’s Obama’s Fault” and go all around DC slapping those post-its on all those signs…

    • Cyborg3K

Great idea. How about decals and bumper stickers?

      • http://www.IKnowbo.com/ Slam1263

My screen name at IKnowBo dot com.
        At cost.

  • Richard J Sunkle

I Decree (Why not, Obama does it) that Barricades shall henceforth be known as “Barry-cades”.

    • stickerchick

You made me spit my coffee on my keyboard

    • grais

Yes, its not quite up to the job, is it?

    • grais

And are we sure it’s not a bike rack?

      • Zakasnak

oohh, someone should totally lock their bike up to the Barry-cade while they tour the memorial! Make sure it’s a cheap POS, because you KNOW it will be confiscated. But pictures first!

    • Di

Sir you win the internets today! LOL.

  • Rob Stevely

Apparently some of the 800,000 not working includes barricades.

  • AmericanMom

Isn’t this what Barry Soetero wanted for America all along? No wonder he doesn’t plan to negotiate.

  • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

How much did these signs cost and how long ago was the printing order put in for them?

    • grais

They might be leftover from the last shutdown.

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

I know enough about the feds to know that they don’t save anything that long. Well, except for the computers that run the air traffic control system.

      • alanstorm

That’s no better – it would mean that we’ve been paying to store them for 17 years or so.

  • grais

I’m sorry, but I find this particular part of the Clown Show to be hilarious.
    And actually, I’m not sorry.

  • Joe W.

I still believe that the time has come for the public to begin to loudly discuss the need to begin the revolution against the government of the Obama Regime. And I do not give a damn if the NSA, the CIA the Secret Service or Bronco Bamma hisself reads this post or chooses to come investigate me. (Or if the Gestapo that are the Twitchy Moderators remove my post) We are well within our rights to remove the government if we believe the government is no longer functioning Constitutionally or in the best interests of the people. It is NOT, and it must be abolished. Anyone else think the time has come? Buehler??!! BUEHLER!!!??

    • http://deadrepublicanparty.wordpress.com/ rmnixondeceased

I think it is time for an article five convention. We need a restructuring, an end to federal over-reach, a return to powerful states and small federal government. Joe, if you’ll read this: http://wp.me/p37Eto-47 I think you will agree with me that the time has come for new learership in our nation.

    • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

      If not for lack of transportation and a gun, I’m with you, Joe! Jawamax 8<{D}

    • http://amandakmelson.wordpress.com/ GreenEyedGal

I’ve been waiting for the revolution! Has the time finally come? I’m all in.

  • alanstorm

Yeah, that looks like it’ll stop people.

    • Al’s Grandpa ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

It will stop progressives for the same reason a painted cattle guard on a road prevents the cows from leaving an enclosed area.

    • WhoMeToo

      It looks like our borders.

      • AZcommenter

No, the border fence has signs in Spanish directing illegal aliens to the nearest U.S. welfare office and reminding them to fill out a voter registration card while they’re picking up their check.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

It looks like a bench that’s still under construction. Must’ve been a union job.

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

Hey! Just because Bench Back Local #2807 rushed the job, Bench Seat Local #1529 shouldn’t get the blame. You tryin to start trouble, pal?

  • Magnifico

Run it over with a steam roller.

    • grais

      Why?

      • Magnifico

        Because it would be newsworthy

        • grais

Wouldn’t that look sorta like the dips stuck on the stopped escalator, though?

  • canb0nly1

This cannot be reality. What the hell is going on?!?!

    • AZcommenter

      Hope and change, baby.

Barry Hussein Soetoro/Obama (or whatever his real name is) is turning our once-great nation into a corrupt and dysfunctional Third World banana republic — just like in the “dreams” of “fundamental transformation” his commie Kenyan father inspired.

  • TocksNedlog

The last time I read the 1st Amendment, which would be right now, it still includes the clause “THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE”.

  • Steve__Jacobson

Interesting the administration was able to have all those signs ready to go immediately, almost like they were planning on a shutdown.

  • FaithColeridge33

Someone ought to go express their 1st amendment rights and kick the thing over.

  • Stephen L. Hall

In fairness, WWI veterans are easier to stop than the WWII veterans.

    • SkyePuppy

Yeah, my WWI veteran grandpa passed away in 1979 of wounds sustained during the war. He was gassed, and the doctors at the time told him he would probably develop stomach cancer as a result. He did–after 20 years in the Army and 20 more years with the Border Patrol (Northern border).

      • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

A sad ending to a life nobly lived.

  • IBXNJ

I saw this and busted out laughing!!!!!!

  • https://www.facebook.com/captainclarity CaptainClarity

Whether the WWII Memorial or my local National Parks, who are all of these Park Rangers, in uniform, on duty telling the press and US citizens that they are closed? It’s so strange to me that there are Park Rangers working, but only to block American citizens from OUR parks?

  • ARBlair

Must be the same barricade they are using on the border.

    • AZcommenter

Close, but it’s missing the sign (in Spanish) that directs “undocumented Americans” to the nearest welfare office.

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

    If I were anywhere near Washed-Up-Town, I’d jump that “barrier” and exercise my First Amendment rights by shouting (Repeatedly, at the top of my lungs), KING OBAMA IS A FINK! Anyone wanna join me? #RightWard #SupportOurVeterans Jawamax 8<{D}

  • $1014973

I assume by 1st Amendment activities, they mean community organizing is still allowed?

  • Vicki Richardson

I guess this is what the BORDER FENCE looks like! This administration is embarrassing!

    • idiotmitten

No. That looks like the fence around the embassy in Benghazi.

      • Vicki Richardson

        Love it!!

  • Hannibal

Well, they probably figured they only needed a small fence since they weren’t expecting too many WWI vets to show up at the WWI Memorial this week.

  • bigal64

Anyone in DC to walk aroud and put s sticker on them that says “Welcome to Obamaville”

  • Gromit

This single barricade and sign look to me like someone was maliciously obedient – doing exactly what they were told to do, while simultaneously and intentionally reflecting the ridiculousness of the order given.

    • Michael Anderson (WB)

That’s got to be it. They were told to put up a barrycade at the monument and they put up exactly “a barrycade” no more and no less.

  • Maxx

Ironic. 1st Amendment activities are protected but if you’ve come to see the memorial which helped to defend the 1st Amendment, well…that’s closed.

Let me be blunt. If this sh*t doesn’t make it to a political ad within 48 hours, someone in the RNC needs to be fired.

    • SkyePuppy

They’ve been needing to be fired for quite a while. They’re utterly ineffective at darn-near everything.

  • https://www.facebook.com/captainclarity CaptainClarity

Wasn’t Iwo Jima closed when they got there too?

  • TomJB

Hmm, so assembling to protest is covered by the 1st amendment, but assembling to appreciate the monument isn’t? Someone needs to brush up on their basic English comprehension…

    • https://www.facebook.com/captainclarity CaptainClarity

Time to privatize America’s parks and monuments. We can’t trust the government with them.

  • Still Determined

I think some people did not understand what a Government Shutdown really meant.

  • John Howard

That’s more fence than we have along the Arizona border.

  • Joe

Obama has more guards keeping the OPEN AIR memorials in DC shut down than he had guarding Americans in Benghazi!

  • Texan357

Some government websites now bear a similar note:

“Due to the lapse in government funding, only web sites supporting excepted functions will be updated unless otherwise funded. As a result, the information on this website may not be up to date, the transactions submitted via the website may not be processed, and the agency may not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted.

Well, let’s see. The first amendment guarantees the right of the people to peaceably assemble. So I guess as long as there’s more than one person at any monument, they’re exercising their first amendment rights.
