Health insurers to customers: If you like your plan, you can keep ... nah, you're screwed

What was that President Obama promised about the Affordable Care Act? If you like your health care plan, you can keep it?

If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.

Or as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D.-Calif., helpfully explained, “Keep your doctor, and your current plan, if you like them.

During the 2008 campaign, PolitiFact rated Obama’s claim total swoon, and later dialed it down to half awesome sauce.

The president signed the bill and now insurers are letting consumers know what’s in it.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield sent a letter telling customers that plans which don’t meet Obamacare’s requirements will be discontinued in 2014.

Changes from health care reform (also called the Affordable Care Act or ACA) continue to take effect in 2014. To meet the requirements of the new laws, your current plan can no longer be continued beyond your 2014 renewal date.

Shorter Anthem: Buh-bye, PPO. Hello, HMO.

While we are not going to be selling new individual PPO plans, you will have the option to purchase a new HMO plan through our subsidiary company….

Customers can move to an HMO plan or — surprise! — buy insurance through the Obamacare exchanges set to roll out in October.

Bingo.

Twitchy founder/CEO Michelle Malkin is hardly the only one who won’t be able to keep her plan.

Well it’s starting. Just got a letter from Anthem Blue Cross telling me that I’m losing my current health plan in favor of an ACA ‘Compliant’ plan. Compliant? WTF? @michellemalkin @AlanColmes @gretawire@RichardGrenell

I received a letter from Anthem Blue Cross canceling my current plan by 1/1/14. The letter asks me to continue paying to keep my coverage. When I asked if the new ‘compliant’ plans will be more expensive, the answer was “Most Likely”. RT @BenHowe: I had insurance for years. Now I don’t because the premiums have become out of reach since I’m self-employed. #ThingsArentBetter

Your current doctor may not be in your HMO’s network, but, hey, at least you’ll be in a plan that’s Obamacare-compliant!
