There may come a day when Twitchy scales back its copious coverage of conservative actor James Woods. But thankfully, today is not that day.

Woods brought the house down with his successful Twitter campaign to bring mainstream media attention to the brutal beating death of World War II vet Delbert Belton.

Now that it’s a national story, should we expect President “If I Had a Son” to weigh in on Belton’s murder? Perhaps another “healing” Obama speech? Woods has a pretty good idea of what the brainstorming would look like:

https://twitter.com/RealJamesWoods/status/371257860526981120

Another win from the must-follow Mr. Woods, who recently and rightly called race-hustler Al Sharpton a “blatant bigot.”

Sharpton sat next to Obama and Eric Holder at a civil rights meeting this week. No word on whether he used a photo of Medgar Evers as ID to clear White House security, but it’s clear this hasn’t changed:

Followers loved Woods’ “behind-the-scenes” photo of Obama’s speech prep with Sharpton. It has been retweeted more than 1,000 times.

The Sharpton/Obama photo summed up in one word:

If MLK were alive today, the NSA and FBI would have every word he ever said recorded.

    • grais

      The FBI probably does.

      • Jack Deth

        It was called COINTELPRO.

Thought up by J. Edgar and OKed by Bobby Kennedy.

Taps (legal and illegal) and surveillance to find out as much as possible about MLK and several “progressives” within his entourage.

        • GrindingMills

Also used against the Black Panters, Anti-War Movement, Feminist Groups, the KKK, Student Groups (SDS, ect.), NAACP, SCLU, the American Indian Movement, Cuban Groups, The Weathermen, National Lawyer Guild, Albert Einstein, Puerto Rican Independence Groups, Irish Independence Groups, and basically anyone upset with the status quo.

Hoover’s instructions for the group was to “expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, or otherwise neutralize” the activities of these movements and their leaders.” So it was basically the NSA scandal and IRS scandal on horse steroids.

It’s actually really interesting, a lot of the files have been released via FOIA requests.

          • robcrawford2

“and basically anyone upset with the status quo.”

ITYM, “and basically the entire spectrum of Soviet-funded agitprop groups”.

          • GrindingMills

So Martin Luther King was Soviet-funded? How about the NAACP or KKK? I think it’s just safer to say anyone who upset the status quo.

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Not funded by Soviets but definitely have socialist viewpoints.

          • GrindingMills

So that makes it OK to spy on them and disrupt their activities without due process? I’m not defending them, but we can’t take away their rights because we don’t like what they believe.

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

I didn’t say it was alright. If they were funded by Soviets though then that would be a different story because that could be a national security threat. In the Cold War Era any organization that had socialist views was under suspicion of Soviet activity. It would be like the government looking into radical Muslim organizations today. You can’t ignore possible threats, they at least have to be investigated.

          • GrindingMills

So are you saying that it’s OK for the NSA to spy on Muslims without warrants (like the FBI with socialists in the 50s-70s), but it’s not OK for the NSA to spy on non-Muslims?

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

I’m saying it is their duty to investigate any foreign threats and non-citizens don’t have to be given warrants or due process. MLK and American organizations should have been given due process, I agree with you on that but foreign activity is a different matter.

          • GrindingMills

But the NSA was tapping citizens. If the citizen was a radical Muslim, would it be allowable to tap their phones without a warrant?

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

No, which is why I said non-citizens and am not excusing them for wiretapping citizens.

          • michael s

Its very laughable to hear certain republicans express their solidarity with MLK. This wasn’t the case when he was alive. Certain republicans teamed up with certain democrats to create the climate to cause his death.

          • kikibirdie

Times have changed. Would you rather that they hadn’t?

          • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Wrong, conservatives marched with Civil Rights groups and all stood for the Civil Rights Act It was Democrats who kept blocking them. Your knowledge of history is depressingly inaccurate.

“So are you saying that it’s OK for the NSA to spy on Muslims without warrants (like the FBI with socialists in the 50s-70s), but it’s not OK for the NSA to spy on non-Muslims?”

It’s not OK to spy on “Muslims” merely because they are known to have Islamic faith. It is OK to “spy on Muslims” if they congregate in mosques that distribute anti-Western materials and use generally anti-Western rhetoric.

          • objectivefactsmatter

“So that makes it OK to spy on them and disrupt their activities without due process?”

In some cases, yes. In other cases, no. You’ll have to be more specific about your objections to our conduct during the cold war.

“I’m not defending them, but we can’t take away their rights because we don’t like what they believe.”

What rights were taken away? Are you jumping to conclusions or do you have something specific in mind? There is no “right to cooperate with state enemies.”

          • GrindingMills

How about the 4th Amendment? You know searching without a warrant.

          • objectivefactsmatter

They must justify it with a warrant or otherwise. You seem to be implying that there are never any exceptions and that’s not true.

“ITYM, “and basically the entire spectrum of Soviet-funded agitprop groups”.”

            Exactly.

          • objectivefactsmatter

Because these front groups were often funded by the Soviets.

You forgot to mention that part.

          • GrindingMills

Yeah, you’re right. It makes total sense that the Soviets were paying the KKK, Irish independence advocates, American Indian groups and women’s rights groups. They do have so much in common with each other after all.

          • objectivefactsmatter

What they have in common is disruption of peaceful coexistence among the people in the capitalist nations.

Is that hard to understand really? It’s not making judgments against every member of each group by saying that the Soviets had an interest in fomenting class warfare, or supporting violent upheaval when purely political solutions might be more desirable.

The Soviets obviously don’t give a damn about the movements themselves. We were the “evil empire” standing in the way of the blissful justice of Soviet Communism. So were lots of their own citizens as it turned out. In their view, the end goal justified nearly any means.

          • Rusty Shackleford

We can’t have those uppity Irish wanting silly things like rule over their own lands now can we.

          • objectivefactsmatter

Sovereignty is earned. I’m not saying the English were always fair with them, but it takes more than being indignant to build a viable independent nation.

          • Bathing Suit Area

Fortunately, spying on citizens was considered a good and wholesome thing as long as it happened before Obama was president. Then it became the worst thing ever.

          • objectivefactsmatter

            First, that’s not true.

Second, most people object to the hypocrisy because it’s something 0’Bama himself criticized. OTOH, the Bush administration explained their theories, even if you disagreed with how they wanted to proceed.

          • GrindingMills

How about we all agree that the 4th Amendment is good and whenever it’s violated it’s a bad thing regardless of whoever is president.

          • objectivefactsmatter

            That’s not a controversial position.

The dispute comes from claims that Bush was given blind support from his constituents while 0’Bama is attacked for doing the same things, and that’s just not true. 0’Bama is attacked for the level of deception employed.

Not only that but coupled with his position that “it’s not Islamic terror,” his ratcheting up of surveillance makes it look like his program is a lot worse in terms of taking the random fishing expedition approach.

If he’s so convinced that we don’t really have Islamic supremacists trying to attack us systematically then he needs to wind down these programs he criticized earlier. If he does recognize the need, or if he thinks it’s worse, then lying to us about it on an ongoing basis is worse than Bush in many ways.

The sum of it is that 0’Bama is either a tool of the Islamic supremacists, or is knowingly part of the conspiracy. Although he probably think’s he’s actually entitled and that these guys are no longer our enemies because they are his friends. He is the USA. Therefore it’s not really a conspiracy. He just needs to use a little “marketing” know how to get these “bitter clingers” to go along with the global “transformation” plans.

Having said that, Bush was also duped to a large degree, but he also showed that he was learning as he went along as illustrated by his dealings for example with the “Palestinians.” And that after all is the global salient for the jihad against the West.

0’Bama just keeps going in the same direction; in favor of our enemies. So even if he learned nothing from what actually happened between 2001 and 2008, he has no real excuse for failing to learn from his own failures between 2009 and today. He had a new plan and it turns out that it only helps our enemies. Now what? Business as usual.

On to Syria to help more Sunni Islamic imperialists.

          • objectivefactsmatter

      J. Edgar used to call MLK in and let him listen to the wiretaps. MLK was known to sleep with prostitutes (and beat them), so Hoover would play him the tapes of MLK’s night time activities.

That’s because some of MLK’s family have already lost his message.

          • QueenB

Not lying and not dishonest. Sure, there was more to the quote, but you still made a comment about someone’s hair. Which is a comment on their looks. Which you try to pretend you are above. Apparently, that type of discussion truly is the best you can do. You cannot comment on anything that actually matters. When someone brings up that fact, you whine about “adolescence”, yet all you want to talk about is people who comment on how other people look. Either you have no idea what the words you used in your post actually mean, or you have nothing to say on the topics I mentioned because you have absolutely nothing to retort. You know its all been going on. You know the guy you voted for has had a hand in all of it. You are very aware that all the promises he made to you, he did not deliver on. If you’d like, we can also discuss how when he was a Senator, Obama thought the country’s high national debt was an indication of a lack of leadership, yet now that it’s almost double of what it was when he was a Senator, suddenly, it’s not a problem.

This has been a national story, though, since it happened.

    • ObamaFail

But unlike when Trayvon Martin was killed, Obama hasn’t felt like going out and inserting his two cents. LIke when he said, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.” But with this case, he cant’ be bothered to have an opinion. And the reason? He can’t stir the race-baiting pot because the victim was white and the killers were black.

      • http://mpj.co WhoDat

Well, if Obama did have a son, he probably would have looked like Trayvon.

He really shouldn’t have commented on the Martin case, and I don’t think he should have to comment on this case, either.

Imagine if he commented on every murder, he’d be doing nothing else.

        • RLEE

That is the point he should keep his mouth shut, but if its something that he can make it look like whites are out in the street using blacks for target practice or some other white on black thing he is right there don’t forget BEER SUMMIT for Christ sake

        • Todd Hill

Obama’s maternal grandfather looked like Delbert Belton.

          • QueenB

And Belton actually does kind of look like Obama’s grandfather. Martin and Obama look nothing alike. Well, unless you think all black people look alike, then I can see the confusion.

        • Zach Smith

“Well, if Obama did have a son, he probably would have looked like Trayvon.”
Is that relevant? What if a white (or white Hispanic) politician had made such an observation in a similar case?

        • QueenB

Between the Martin case, “the Cambridge police acted stupidly” and making a phone call to the poor 30 year old law student because a mean radio guy called her a bad name, etc.,, it seems he does love to insert himself into things he shouldn’t be worrying about, yet he does. Over and over. When it suits him. So my question is, why did Martin, the Cambridge police and Sandra Fluke rise to the level of presidential importance, but a WWII vet being beaten to death does not? Could it perhaps be because the case of the vet doesn’t fit into Obama’s narrative? Could it be, maybe?

          • Jerry Camp

And don’t forget the gay, mediocre NBA player…

          • Bathing Suit Area

What’s the actual debate for him to weigh in on here? Nobody is in favor of old people being beaten to death.

          • QueenB

Do you mean the same Police Chief that said this?

“Our information is that the individual fought back and that may have made this, you know, a worse situation,” said Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub in a press conference Monday morning. “I’m not being critical of Mr. Belton, we certainly encourage individuals to fight back, and he should have. But it shouldn’t have happened to begin with.”

Truthfully, I don’t find it sad. Maybe this will truly show people that content of character is more important than skin color. Now that we have this “historic” stuff out of the way, maybe we can move on to who can do a better job. I know, wishful thinking.

      • JGoolsby

Well, I find it sad because there will be a lot voters next time a black man or woman is on the ballot for President (and there will be a next time) who will vote against them simply because of the actions of The Obamassiah and that is a true tragedy.

I will and I fully admit it. I would never have noted for obama because he’s a raging liberal, but I would have voted for Colin Powell. And good Lord would that have been a mistake. How could I have known that he was just a race hustler waiting in the wings?
