Benghazi is “worth investigating after all”? But … it happened a long time ago, no? Plus, “phony” scandal. Aren’t those the talking points?

Conor Friedersdorf writes:

Like many people, I figured anti-American radicals had launched the attack, guessed that Obama was as upset about it as anyone, and didn’t blame him or Hillary Clinton for failing to secure a diplomatic outpost in an unstable country. I opposed Team Obama’s reelection for totally unrelated reasons.

With House Republicans and talented national security journalists covering the story even after the election, and nothing to add myself, I tuned out every time I heard the word “Benghazi” on the news.

Because, really, what difference did it make?

Following CNN’s explosive report that dozens of CIA operatives were on the ground in Benghazi and the agency is allegedly engaged in an “unprecedented attempt” to bury Benghazi secrets, Friedersdorf concludes it’s “worth investigating after all.” Welcome aboard, Captain Obvious.

OK, so now Friedersdorf has questions. Any other takers? Come and get it, lapdogs:

It does make a difference.

The Atlantic’s Conor Friedersdorf at it again; ‘Read my work before you make sh*t up’

  • Rory Oldham

Yeah, because up until now it was just a “Phony Scandal”…Idiots

    • Senor Equis

Problem is it wasn’t just Dumbocrats. Even neocon fake ‘classical liberal’ hacks like University of Houston Professor Craig Pir-(w)rong insisted CIA could only be in Benghazi to collect weapons and terror suspects, not to ship them off to Syria to fight Assad.

  • Pam Oswald

Well this is really going to irritate Jay Carney. He thought he’d put this issue to bed with the “phony scandal” line repeated umpteen times. Maybe he should try “transparent phony scandal”. Dems love it when you say “transparent”. Their little faces just light up!

    • drbage

How about “it was a kinetic non-phony non-scandal event?”

    • NickGranite

Carney is so phony he couldn’t sell a used car to a 16 year old.

  • Clete Torres

Holy crap. Two unconnected instances of real journalism escaping the plantation.

    • CatHerder

    • ceemack

OMG…is Conor Friersdorf the NEXT to be fired???

      • Ty in TX

Probably not, he just said it should be looked into is all. He didn’t actually lay it at Obama’s or Hilliary’s feet.

I’m sure if giving enough time, money, and skills with photoshop mountains of evidence will be found that it was indeed the video, and the TEA party, Republicans, Southerners, and traditional marriage advocates that were responsible for Benghazi.

        • CatHerder

Don’t forget those nasty gun-owning patriots!

          • Ty in TX

True, true……but then I did say Southerners, Tea party, and Republicans……in the minds of liberals they’re interchangeable.

        • trixiewoobeans

          AND Home-Schoolers and Pro-Life advocates!

    • Shawn Smith

Not really. If you check out his Twitter feed, he’s still trying to pretend this wasn’t a big deal and wondering why conservatives are “obsessed” with it.

Hint: If you and your friends repeatedly and obviously LIE about something, people who are interested in the truth might start to look obsessed with it.

      • Senor Equis

It’s like Naval War College profs John Schindler and Tom Nichols calling me crazy because I’m obsessed with the testimony of Russ Tice and Doug J. Hagmann, two individuals whose statements blow apart their insistence that NSA doesn’t spy for domestic, political reasons.

      • trixiewoobeans

Wel-l-l-l, he doesn’t want to be accused of being uncool, that’s a fate worse than death to Libs.

    • BlueGood

and who ever said the LameStream Media were slow…..

No doubt this is as a result of the recent polls that show TRADITIONAL MEDIA Peoples are about as respected by the masses, as a Liberal Politician….or snake schit…or Earthworm Scat………….

      • TexasMom2012

except earthworm scat is actually worth something…

        • Ronald Green

          It does something worthwhile too.

  • chuckles

Te useful idiots already have their talking points from the WH

Damning details may well come out on Benghazi. If so, I welcome them. But is it THE scandal of the Obama Admin? I can’t see it.

  • Peetweefish

Leaving dozens of Americans to die means that anyone with any authority with regards to Benghazi is complicit and their political lives should be over.
Eisenhower had a speech written for if the D-day landings had failed. In it he claimed full responsibility for the failure. That is integrity. That is American bravery. Obama, Hillary, and this entire administration are not even the same species.

    • Clete Torres

Don’t expect any confirmation of their involvement from this group of miscreants. Admitting culpability in this matter, in their minds, opens them up for confirmation of everyone’s suspicion of probable cause in the IRS, NSA, and Fast and Furious scandals, as well as anything that hasn’t been brought out into the daylight yet.

      • Peetweefish

I have no delusions. I don’t expect lying weasels to take responsibility for their failures. Likewise, I’m not surprised when they claim victory for others’ successes. Because they’re f****** weasels and that’s what weasels do.

        • erehwon

On the other hand, although it is fun to fly with the eagles, weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines …

Just sayin’. Wasn’t it Donnie Rumsfeld that gave the speech about the ‘Axis of Weasels’?

          • Peetweefish

I never understood that saying. Eagles don’t fly at 35,000 ft and flocks of geese or ducks are much more likely to get sucked in during landing or take off.

    • $30423294

If we fought using the left wing’s techniques, there would be a permanent campsite outside Hillary’s office with a big banner saying SHAME ON YOU.

Instead, Senator McCain is assuring us that his good friend is in tip-top shape to become our first girl-president!

The GOP is worthless, but you knew that.

      • Peetweefish

I’m not a registered democrat because liberalism and progressivism are poisoninous failures of political philosophy.

I’m not a registered republican because they’re just idiots that think they can spend the money better.

The b**** of it is that the republicans are right even though they’re equally devoid of principal so I vote republican and then take a chemical shower and open some whiskey.

        • nickdqwk

          “Cheers” I’ll drink to that.

          • Peetweefish

        • OpenTheDoor

I only drink Kentucky whiskey, bottoms up.

          • Peetweefish

If it’s whiskey, i drink it. Favorite bourbon is Knob Creek.

          • erehwon

For those of us with a slimmer wallet, we have to settle for Evan Williams.

          • Peetweefish

Evan Williams is still good with me. Cut my teeth bourbon wise on that stuff.

Balvienie Scotch for me, when I can afford it.

I have remained independent for the same reason. But since before the last election I find it very mysterious that the Libertarian party has not exploited the fact that a huge chunk of the population wants to get back to libertarian (stay out of my sh*t) principles.

Where is the Libertarian party in all of this? Are they being shut out by our media?

I feel betrayed. Tell me guy-defecating-on-cop-car, why did you do this to me? I believed in you!

    • ceemack

Honor and integrity are foreign concepts in the Obama administration…and rarely heard of anywhere in the “modern” Democrat party.

  • Richard J Sunkle

Next thing you know they’ll be telling us the democrats broke Detroit.

Are you sure they didn’t inherit it from George Bush? That seems to work for them on all their other problems. My 16 yo son turned an assignment in a day late last year, and he blamed it on GWB, and got a 100 plus extra credit.

    • $30423294

I completely agree. I think we should build a dark monument somewhere where their names are inscribed so that their children are so ashamed they have to change their names.

Hi my name is Tim Clinton, great grandson of presidents Bill and Hillary Clinton.

      Hey Tim, get lost.

    • ObamaFail

All Obama has to do is distract from this and say some nonsense that caters to the whims of his low-info followers, all liberals will forget about this bombshell and start crying “phony” again.

  • rrpjr

What a sick farce. He made all these assumptions but wasn’t in the least perturbed that the President and the top four security officials in the country condemned the principle of free speech INSTANTANEOUSLY upon the attack and FOR WEEKS afterwards in a concerted and transparent campaign of lies that went to the heart of our Constitution and to our core belief not to abandon fellow Americans to our enemies.

  • Ukelele_Ike

How about the IRS continues to delay right-wing organizations in their applications for tax-exempt status and continues to ask them what the content of their prayers is, when they meet and who they talk to about what? Scandal? Not only did IRS do that, they continue to do that and there is no punishment for these folks in the IRS. No, no scandal here; it’s a feature, not a bug; right??

  • CatHerder

Gee dude, you might want to reconsider using such scathing terms. /s

He says, by golly, I think there is something wrong with the ship.

Too late. Just like the economy, and health care, and now national security. By the time the self-appointed watchers and grown ups figured out what was happening, the damage was already done. All that’s left is the horror now.

Pretty sure the relatives of those who died in #Benghazi didn’t “tune out” when they heard “Benghazi”. What a tool that Conor Friedersdouche

  • Macranthunter

So let me get this straight: a story has to be “worth” investigating before it gets investigated? And what makes it “worthwhile”? Politics? Potential damage to “their” party?

Last I checked, journalism was investigation and investigation of everything. By this measure, The Atlantic hasn’t been a journal in a very long time.

  • yourmamatoo

Uh oh. Looks like at this point, it does make a difference.
Whatever will Obama , Hillary and Carnival Carney do now?

  • interestedobserver2

Conor Friedersdorf is a dips**t. It was always worth investigating to find out why four Americans died on the ground there with no help in sight when jets could have been overhead in less than an hour. If he had been one of the family members, I’ll bet he would have wanted to know why they died. Of course, he’s no more a dips**t than the 51 million idiots who re-elected Obama and whose reaction was precisely like his. Because, when your loved ones die through neglect and refusal to act from the highest authorities, what does it really matter? Right, Conor?

  • Jeff H

But what difference does it make? Someone has cleaned it up and covered it all up before Huma has pushed the shopping cart to the SUV with her purchases.
