Celebs have taken to Twitter to call for a boycott of Rolling Stone, and now CVS is joining everyone with an ounce of decency in condemning the magazine’s rock-star treatment of accused Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The company posted this message on its Facebook page:

CVS/pharmacy has decided not to sell the current issue of Rolling Stone featuring a cover photo of the Boston Marathon bombing suspect. As a company with deep roots in New England and a strong presence in Boston, we believe this is the right decision out of respect for the victims of the attack and their loved ones.

CVS received numerous requests to boycott the Rolling Stone issue.

The company responded individually to each of those Twitter users and its decision to snub Rolling Stone received strong support on Twitter.

Good … I’ll stop there on my way back from Chick-Fil-A.

    • stuckinIL4now

Hey let’s have a second annual Chick-Fil-A appreciation day on August 1. We can include CVS and other retailers who refused to sell this RS disaster and make stops on the way back.

      • Lady 12

        Don’t forget Papa John’s.

    • Lady 12

I can do the same, since CHICK-FIL-A IS COMING TO MY STATE!!!

  • Marvin Nelson

As a loyal CVS customer, I am proud of them for taking a stand against the Rolling Stone’s blatant disregard for the feelings of the victims’ families and many Americans who were appalled by the bombers’ disregard for human life.

  • Mekadave

Thanks to CVS for doing the decent thing.
SMH at RollingStone. I knew they had gone all wacko-lefty, but…. damn.

  • rippersnort

Let’s hope other retailers do the same. WTG CVS…

    • Adela Wagner

So far – CVS Pharmacy, Cumberland Farms, Roche Bros. and Tedeschi Food Shops

      • TundraThunder

        Walgreens too.

        • Adela Wagner

HA YAY! At least there are those still out here who are sick of this crap and will use their 1st Amend. RIGHTS to STAND UP. This will spread.

  • Garrett Gripling

They should have stopped selling “Rolling Stone” years ago out of respect for journalism.

    • ObamaFail

And MSNBC and NBC news should have also been taken off the air out of respect for journalism.

  • GaryTheBrave

I don’t know when it will be on the shelves but we should spy on our local stores of all kinds and ask them to remove it for this issue. Make RS suffer financially for their mistake.

  • TJ

Wonder if there has been any other cover that was refused shipment based on the person on the cover. Not sure anyone has/can read the article just the cover to base judgement. Is the report a hit piece that he should face the max punishment for his crimes or is it a freedom fighter vs terrorist debate so go easy on him.

    • TrueBlue73

The content of the article is irrelevant to me right now. Placing him on the cover is my main problem.

    • Stephen K

Considering that it’s Rolling Stone, my money is the second choice.

    • Michelle

The article isn’t the issue here. The cover photo that absolutely likens him to a rock star (on a rock magazine of all things) is the issue.

    • Jeff Coil

The problem is not the article itself. I have no problem with that, regardless of its “spin”. The problem is they gave this baby-killing POS a “Position of Honor” that will surely be used by terrorist as propaganda and as a recruiting tool.

    • Pinky Rose

Late here but, I did read it to find out how they spun it. IMO; They are trying to humanize this monster. Poor baby, life was so tough for him. None of his friends could believe he would do such a thing even though he talked about terrorists attacks being justified. Really? They couldn’t believe it? Wah wah wah. So yeah, typical sympathizers.

  • Jack Deth

    Good for CVS!

Not even fitting the “Too Soon” category. When it fits perfectly in the “Not At All”.

This Rolling Stone/Tsarnaev fiasco is rampant liberal stupidity writ large!!!

  • wineplz

Good for them! I’ll make sure my husband fills his prescription there, and will make a pointed effort to shop there more often.

  • tops116

  • Garth Haycock

Kudos to CVS for this decision. Now, if they really wanted to send a strong message, they’d refuse to ever sell Rolling Stone again. That would be a decision I would fully support.

    • Lolly

I would support it, also. I was thinking that would make me–as a store owner–just take them off my list of buy-able magazines.

  • Heather_A

Both CVS and Walgreens have decided not to stock this months Rolling Stone…at least in some parts of the country, you don’t have to choose now! 😀

  • Macranthunter

As much as it pains me to say this, freedom of the press can be a terrible and offensive right – but a right it is. I think Rolling Stone is a rag – have for many years – but they have a constitutional right to be ignorant, insensitive and inflammatory. God bless the constitution for allowing this. The Fist Amendment DOES NOT protect popular speech.

No, I won’t be buying the Rolling Stone.

    • JayDee

No one said they should be have the government come after them.

    • TocksNedlog

WHO said anything about the First Amendment in relation to this issue?

    • Michelle

This is in no way whatsoever a First Amendment issue.

    • Jeff Coil

Its not their “rights” that are being called into question. It is their “judgment”.

    • John Rebori

First Amendment stops the GOVERMENT from prohibiting publication. It does not force others to buy, to sell, or to not criticize those who chose to publish something.

In no way has RS’s first amendment rights been violated.

  • TocksNedlog

“(Rollin’ Stone…) Wanna see my picture on the cover
(Stone…) Wanna blow off five limbs for my mother!
(Stone…) Wanna see my smilin’ face
On the cover of the Rollin’ Stone…”

    • CatHerder

Did Dr Hook ever make it to the cover of RS? Just wondering.

      • TocksNedlog

Yes. In reaction to the song RS put them on the cover — in cartoon caricature form, not a photograph.

        • John Rebori

But then Dr. Hook was never charged with terrorism.

  • BadGirloftheNorth

I don’t usually shop at Walgreen’s, but today, I went and dropped a few (plus several!) bucks at our local store to say thank you. Tomorrow, CVS !

  • Danny Wheeler

    Bravo, CVS!!!

  • Beau Toxx

“Not to sell the current issue.” Then business as usual. That’ll show them CVS has principles.
