As the world awaits the white smoke signaling the selection of the next pope, an unlikely superstar emerged: an insouciant seagull.

Naturally, the seagull quickly spawned accounts dedicated to chronicling his flight to fame. Introducing @SistineSeagull and @PapalSeagull:

OMG the Muslims must have trained that “Schithawk”……

Brakky…QUICK get a DRONE! Don’t let that bird poop on the Pope!

  • Tangchung

Hurry Oreo, get the seagull eating a Oreo cookie picture tweeted.

  • GaryTheBrave

      Aaugh! Beat me to it!

      • GaryTheBrave

        Great minds think alike. :smile

    does Seagull poop burn white?

    • Canadian in USA

Our standards for amusement have fallen dramatically since the advent of Twitter. In the last 24 hours I have been entertained by Cory Booker’s antics (twice), Chuck Grassley tweeting himself (again), and live tweeversation during another riveting episode of Doomsday Preppers.

Now? This seagull, which is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a week. May Liberty continue to bless the Interwebs…

    God’s “Homing Pigeon”?

In the 4th century a monk was making his way to Rome during a time of selecting a new pope. Upon entering the Vatican a dove landed on his head. It was taken as a sign from God. He was named Pope Fabius and I guess he was a pretty good pope. (H/t to The Catholic Channel on XM.)

At that moment in time, he was the only seagull in Rome not carpet bombing a statue.

  • radjahshelduck

If the Cardassians were choosing a leader instead of the Catholics, would that be Gul Ducat?

  • Creigh Tompkins

Actually it was a military seagull which had placed an electronic bug in the chimney earlier and had just returned to monitor it. The question is, for what government does it work?

  • Mark_Trail

Seagulls and Fishermen are often seen together; what’s the problem?
May Pope Francis follow in the footsteps of the first Pope, St Peter, with many fish in his nets…..Set out into the deep……Cast your nets into the New World with the New Evangelization!

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

    I’ve seen some catchy (and Kvetchy) names for the Seagull on Facebook, Twitter, and Twitchy, but I call him “SHEP-BIRD” (After #ShepardSmith #FoxNews) Now that we have a new Pope, it’s back to the statues.. Jawamax 8<{D}
