When Pope Benedict XVI leaves office next week, he will also resign from Twitter. The pope sent his first @Pontifex tweet in December and the account has gained more than 1.5 million followers. Hundreds of thousands of people follow his non-English accounts.

    Perfectly logical: The account was created for the ruling Pope; that person ceases to rule on Feb. 28, 8 pm local time; consequently the account should be put in escrow, until such time as the new Pontiff decides to reactivate the account.
