Score one for the good guys! As Twitchy reported on Feb. 11, impartial and nonpartisan NPR absurdly called the looming sequestration cuts a “Republican invention.”

Even PolitiFact admits that “sequestration was an idea that came out of Obama’s White House.”

https://twitter.com/NPR_Not_Neutral/status/301180472451551234

After conservative Twitter users cried foul over the false and biased claim, NPR quietly changed the headline to “Republicans Push To Rebrand Automatic Spending Cuts As Deadline Nears.”

Not good enough.

Twitter user @NPR_Not_Neutral kept the pressure on and received a promise from NPR social media staffer Kate Myers.

Today, NPR finally tweeted a correction.

Here’s the complete correction, dated Feb. 20:

The original headline for this story inaccurately suggested Republicans were primarily responsible for devising the across-the-board spending cuts known as sequestration.

Well done, @NPR_Not_Neutral and everyone who used Twitter to hold the lapdogs’ paws to the fire!

  • https://twitter.com/tweetyuo Tangchung

Seems to me NPR still blames republicans for the sequester. Need a honest “correction” !

    • Shawn Smith

You’ll get that about as soon as you see a North Korean newspaper criticize Kim Jong Un.

  • http://truthbeagle.blogspot.com/ Plep

I know where I’d make the first budget cut to avoid sequestration … look no further than NPR.

    • http://twitter.com/__abstraction__ An Abstraction

Then we can remove tax-exempt status from religious institutions (Mosques, Synagogs, churches, etc.). Trageting Mega Churches would be a great start! Cuts + revenue, right?

      • RightThinking1

        Abstraction,

You seem to mistake a tax policy, which encourages the promotion of stable societal values, with a spend policy that promotes propaganda.

        • http://twitter.com/__abstraction__ An Abstraction

Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch aren’t exactly propaganda. Stable societal values can be promoted without religious interference. What else ya got?

          • NachoCheese (D)

Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch aren’t exactly propaganda.

Are you stupid or just intellectually dishonest? They certainly can be, and have been, used as vehicles to spread propaganda to impressionable children.

          • http://twitter.com/__abstraction__ An Abstraction

Yeah – the last time I turned it on Big Bird was goosestepping in Communist garb while the First Lady was outlining how to demolish the military/industrial backbone of the country while making an organic salad with Elmo.

          • NachoCheese (D)

Can’t reply with a valid argument so you fall back on reduction to absurdity?

            Stupid it is!

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Marcy-Cook/1001619613 Marcy Cook

You saw that show too? I thought I was the only one.

          • Adela Wagner

Didn’t see that one but do remember they had Neil Patrick Harris on playing the ‘fairy shoeperson’ and have referred to Fox News as “Pox News” on there too. Indoctrination? Perhaps, maybe, maybe not. But the same people who will say Conservatives are acting Paranoid by implying there are subliminal messages here are more than likely the same people who are threatened by the words “In God We Trust” being printed on our currency and will whine about the message that “implies”. Liberals=Hypocrites at…every…single…turn.

          • dwsmokin

Typical. The subtle insinuation of propaganda has been going on for years, just as marketing research over the years has found success with the same approach. Where do you live-in a cave with cable?

          • KayGee

I teach my kids not to fall for that commie BS their kindergarten teacher is trying to indoctrinate them with about “Sharing and Caring”… They know better than to let ANY of their lunch or snacks get taken by those dependent moochers.

          • Jim Denney

Big Bird would provide great anti-rape training for “Double Barrel Biden.” For you, try this one.

          • walterc

With all the after market licensing and toy sales in the rang eo 100 millon per year, do you really think Sesame Street won’t survive without a direct pay out from the tax payers? You probably think P
lanned parenthood would collapse without it too.

          • Shawn Smith

Because all propaganda is open, outright & blatant. There’s no such thing as subtle bias. Besides which THERE’S MORE TO NPR & PBS THAN BIG BIRD, YOU MORON!

          • RightThinking1

            Abstraction,
Nor are they associated with NPR. Perhaps I missed your point…, or are you changing the subject?

          • Shawn Smith

Actually, without at least some of what you call “intolerance”, no, we can’t have “stable societal values.” If you are not allowed to call some things right and others wrong, if you are not allowed to say some actions are bad and others good, then you cannot create any kind of coherent “values” that will support a stable society.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1481638587 Laura Thompson

            well said…

          • Shawn Smith

We may disagree about what belongs in the “right” and “wrong” categories, but that’s not what leftists teach these days, instead, they tell us that everything is relative and there is no absolute right or wrong.

          • GTFOBigGovt

We’re not paying for your TV babysitter. Entertain your own kid. AND we’re talking about NPR which is much more than Sesame Street. My guess is you’re one of the U.K trolls. Mark?

          • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

Since when did Sesame Street run on NPR?

            Can you do ANYTHING right?

          • EastValleyConservative

Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch are PBS, an equally ridiculous tax funded machine. Considering they make millions in licensing, I am wondering why the government subsidizes them. There is no reason (constitutionally or otherwise) to give them tax dollars. They generate plenty of profit which the taxpayer never sees a dime of. As for religion, who is forcing you to be involved in any religion? Just wondering. Again, tax CUT does not exist, so that money didn’t belong to the government to start with.

          • Adela Wagner

They are actually part of a free Market Enterprise and rake in millions a year, check out their licensing income. Plush toys alone are BIG BUCKS.

          • dwsmokin

You want stability? I don’t go to church regularly, but I respect the stability of communities with those who do. The vast majority of churches do preach their viewpoint-without disguising it as news, or objective commentary. You want to buy into it? Great, your call, but none that I know of try to sneak it past you. NPR on the other hand is more like the Moonies of old-a cultist mentality masquerading as a legit operation.

      • ceemack

        Dear Genius:

        1. There’s a difference between exempting a religious institution from taxes and awarding a government subsidy to a propaganda operation.

        2. The word is “synagogue”.

        • Jason

In what world are you living in that religious institutions are not propaganda operations???

          • 5ftflirt

The real world? What world are you living in that NPR and religious institutions are similar organizations?

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1481638587 Laura Thompson

Great response…and awesome spelling lesson!!! Maybe between me and thee we can get the lib/progs to learn some….yeah…I don’t think you want a concussion from beating your head against that wall any more than I do…Happy Weekend!!!

      • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

OK, so NOW a libtard doesn’t want to scream “But, but, but…seperation of Church and State!!!”

Why do libs hate the 1st Amendment?

Edit: By the way–man up and call ‘revenue’ what it is: “TAXES!”
Why do cowardly little libs hide behind that particular little euphamism?

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Right. Because treasury revenues in the neighborhood of $3 trillion per year just isn’t enough.

        • EastValleyConservative

Not when it’s spent before you ever receive it! Must pay poltical cronies…then rob and pilfer other areas to pay back the Gimmiedats. Only the important ones like SEIU of course.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1481638587 Laura Thompson

…Gimmiedats…I hope you don’t mind if I shamelessly steal that!!!

      • SJ’s Dad

        Hmm . . . “Trageting” . . . not familiar

      • Garth Haycock

It’s obvious that you have no idea the difference between a tax-exempt status and a taxpayer funded subsidy. When you learn the difference, come back and join in the conversation.

      • EastValleyConservative

Wow. Having fun having your rear end handed to you on a platter regarding facts yet? You should be. Furthermore, let’s go over taxes. Taxes do not belong to the government. They are confiscated from citizens from their incomes. (other economic activities as well, but those are somewhat voluntary) There is no such thing as a tax cut. Do you feel the same way about all the “non-profits” running under George Soros which have no business being classified as a non-profit other than the fact they are cozy with the current administration and progressives? Unlike churches, we are forced to fund NPR.

      • dwsmokin

Sure-great idea. Since NPR-like the churches-operates so many homeless programs, shelters, food & clothing drives, assistance for the elderly….oh, they don’t? They just broadcast? And-GASP!-do it in an irresponsible manner? Oh, never mind.

      • Teresa Davis McCormick

the government uses our taxes to fund NPR and PBS. No tax money or government subsidies go to churches. So your point is moot.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1481638587 Laura Thompson

Sorry I’m late to this party, but Dear Heart if you want to intelligently state your case, you may want to make sure you can spell all those big words…unless “Trageting” is one of the “new” dog whistle words…I figure it’s a good possibility considering how the dog whistle word re-definitions make about as much sense as trageting ANYTHING does…well done *snort*

      • mike_in_kosovo

Sure, let’s start with Rev. Wright, “Snuffy” Pfleger and the rest of their gang.

  • BigBossOgg

As someone on Twitter ( can’t recall who now) said yesterday, if your apology’s third word is ‘if’, as in “I’m sorry ‘if’…” ..then it’s no apology.
    (paraphrased)

  • NachoCheese (D)

National Propaganda Radio got what the statists wanted.

The lie was out there for days and days, only after the main focus of national conversation moved to other topics was it edited to a slightly less skewed bias. The goal of saturating the public with the false narrative has succeeded, so now that no one will bother to read the article any more no damage is done to the Big Lie™

  • average schmoe

The problem is that 80% of the low information voter already read the incorrect headline and now believe the Republicans invented sequestration. The damage is done and NPR has done it’s job, correction or not.

    • Karl Morey

I was going to say something like this–the feet-dragging for changing headlines and such is deliberate, because by the time it’s performed, the damage has already been done. It’s a nasty tactic, but like you said, the LIV (low-information voter) has already read and absorbed the attack and can’t be arsed to come back to check it out again.

    • EastValleyConservative

Exactly. This is intentional and seems to be happening with almost every media outlet. They know their audience will never see a correction and will run with the other. And spread, spread, spread.

  • BigTBoom

They’re all at fault!!! Obama thought of it, Congress legislated it, Congress passed it and Obama signed it into law!

  • David Templeton

This naked emperor still thinks he has a coat on!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZR4D5E2WTOI4MSKK7AJS6EG3OA Everybodys All American

The cuts are minuscule compared to what eventually will be necessary when the borrowing spigot runs dry. Trust me this day of reckoning is not that far away.

  • EastValleyConservative

Innacurately suggested? No, they outright called it a Republican invention. NPR is ground zero for state run media and as such, should be defunded. I know we are funding others under the radar, but we should never be required to fund a known government branch of media. Ever. The others, we can at least make hurt for their decisions through ratings, etc. Is it any shocker that the shrieking, whining Juan Williams came from that?

    • Jason

Kinda depends on the meaning of the word invention, lol. Obama thought it up, but Congress “built it.”

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1481638587 Laura Thompson

…straight out of the BJ Clinton Lexicon of What Words Really Mean…

  • crosspatch

    So the headline reads ”

Republicans Push To Rebrand Automatic Spending Cuts As Deadline Nears” as if it was the Republicans who branded it in the first place. NPR just has to somehow keep the impression that this is the responsibility of the Republicans.

  • notenoughtime

NPR = National Propaganda Radio bought and paid for by the hardworking taxpayers. What a waste of hard earned dollars!

  • marcellucci

“….inaccurately suggested Republicans were primarily responsible….”
    That’s not a retraction or a correction….
    “We lied, it was all Obama’s idea”….now THAT’S a correction…..

  • marcellucci

“….inaccurately suggested Republicans were primarily responsible….”
    That’s not a retraction or a correction….
    “We lied, it was all Obama’s idea”….now THAT’S a correction…..

  • http://twitter.com/KayGester KayGee

i am SO GLAD that you guys are here to assure me that all this nonsense about the GOP being any where near, around, or behind the sequester is 100% TOTALLY FALSE AND TYPICAL LIEBRULL HOGWASH. I CAN SLEEP EASY KNOWING THAT NO REP IN THE HOUSE OR SENATE EVER VOTED ON THIS HORRIBLE JOB KILLING BILL, NOR DID THEY EVER SAY ANYTHING REMOTELY POSITIVE ABOUT IT, NOT EVER, NO SIR!
