Reeva Steenkamp, murdered girlfriend of Oscar Pistorius, used Twitter to condemn violence against women

“Blade Runner” Oscar Pistorius, a South African paralympic champion and the first double amputee to run in the Olympics, has been charged with the Valentine’s Day murder of his 30-year-old girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The FHM cover girl was reportedly shot four times in the head and chest.

Among Steenkamp’s final tweets were messages speaking out against rape and other violence against women. On Wednesday, she retweeted this tweet asking people to wear black “in support against #rape and woman abuse.”

The last image Steenkamp uploaded to Instagram included the caption “I woke up in a happy safe home this morning. Not everyone did. Speak out against the rape of individuals in SA. RIP Anene Booysen. #rape #crime #sayNO.”

Steenkamp appeared to be looking forward to Valentine’s Day.

Early reports suggested that her shooting death was due to a Valentine’s Day surprise gone tragically wrong.

However, police now say Pistorius did not mistake Steenkamp for a burglar.

Police also say they had previously responded to the same address for “allegations of a domestic nature.
