Thank goodness President Obama and Congress averted certain economic catastrophe by passing the fiscal cliff bill. Now Richie Riches like Bette Midler will finally have to pay their “fair share.” Well, before raking in $430 million in Hollywood handouts.

On Friday night, Midler acknowledged the Hollywood foot-rub in a tweet, asking “Where do I sign up??”

While we hope it was a joke, the Divine Miss M rarely has a sense of humor when it comes to issues she actually cares about:

So at best, hundreds of millions in Hollywood welfare is a big ol’ punchline to Bette. But you can be sure she’ll be lining up to grab her piece of the pie if she figures out where to sign up.

  • Conrad2010

$400 million dollar giveaway. aka Hollywood welfare.

  • bonnieblue2A

A Marxist elitist pig wants too feed at the trough of middle class taxpayer dollars. I’m shocked! If only Bette were the CEO of a green energy company and could get her payback from the Obama DOE.

Hey Miss Piggy, shut-up and sing.

    • redheadgrl

A very wealthy Marxist elitist pig. There, I fixed it for you.

  • Cooper

To state the obvious….she’s a freaking comedien. next she has pledged to match donations up to $100K to new yorks restoration project. Significant promoter and contributor to any number of charitable causes including a number of programs geared to the support and protection of children. So until you know what you’re talking about crawl back into your recliner and finish watching your honey boo boo reruns.

    • Marie

She’s an idiot, and I don’t care what she does – her stupid politics have done far more damage than any worthless restoration project or any other charitable cause could possibly remedy.

I don’t watch Honey Boo Boo. That kind of white trash appeals to liberals like you, and you know it.

    • Joe W.

Comedienne, my ass, Mark. She’s about as funny as you are, Needlenose. She’s just another Hollyweird pig, rooting at the trough of Barky’s crony government. And moon bats like you fully support the vermin.

    • TugboatPhil

Did it ever occur to you that we just enjoy ridiculing her? I don’t care a bit what she gives money to. It’s hers to do with as she sees fit.

Now, maybe you can get back to your fainting chair and watch some more Bravo.

      • orringtonmom (D)

        surely there’s a ‘real housewives’ marathon somewhere…

    • Dan Cappiello

Funny how they always hide behind the comedian banner. She is a boorish crass actress who ‘entertains’ in comedic roles. She isn’t Jerry Seinfeld.

    • Dan Cappiello

And I bet that as a percentage of wealth, I give more than she does. I am not impressed with her charity. When she gives up her lavish lifestyle and lives a middle class way of life and gives the overage to the needy, then I will be impressed. How many other children don’t get the help they need whilst she jets around and lives ostentatiously? Please. All of these hollywood types are the worst of the hypocrites. Occupy should go march in beverly hills. But that won’t happen, because they too are hypocrites.

      • redheadgrl

Dan – I say this all the time. If Mr. Obama thinks people need to “pay their fair share”, then why doesn’t he donate all his income/wealth to charity, but keep $50,000 for him and his family to live on, like the average American family? Until he does so, I will never believe a word he says. Same for Bono, Bette, Matt Damon or any of the other wealthy celebs that lecture us on not donating enough of not paying our “fair share”.

*I have no problem with people doing what they wish with the money they have earned, but I do have a problem with them telling ME how to spend the money I have earned while the live high on the hog.

    • redheadgrl

Nice to know she has a charitable side to help others, that’s how it should be. However, still not understanding why Hollywood needs gov’t aid….

    • wwbdinct

Right. I recall she threw an extremely LAVISH fundraiser for that project at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC the day after Hurricane Sandy hit. I clearly remember that one of her celeb friends was appropriately dressed as Marie Antoinette. So basically Rome burned while Nero Bette fiddled. Thanks for rushing to her defense but no one who is trying to make ends meet these days gives a rat’s ass.

    • GaryTheBrave

I remember the left mocking Mitt Romney’s contributions, yet none required any matching.

  • tredglx

Yo Bette: you get your handout every time someone is dumb enough to pay to see you perform.

  • Bad things coming

Ah, isn’t she married to a prince or a count or something? Why the F would she need to get anything from us peons? Hypocritical cow.

  • Steve_J

I think the handout is to subsidize studios that continually pay actors and actresses to appear in movies that bomb.

  • notenoughtime

They would not need a hand out if they actually made movies people would want to pay to view. Also, the cost of filming in the U.S. is high because of the unions on the sites. Cannot use local labor but must be union! Have we not subsidized enough losers from Hollywood to wind energy! Free market principles do work – customers will pay for good quality material and content. They won’t is it is garbage!

  • mndasher

I think the idea is that the Hollywood elite will donate back to the Democrat party a 10 percent tithe from the $400 million. That would be financial support for the Democrat party provided by the taxpayers via collusion.

  • GaryTheBrave

If anyone in entertainment (actors, athletes, authors, dancers, directors, producers singers, etc.) earn $1,000,000 or more of one project, they must pay a 95% windfall profits tax. That’ll leave at least $50,000 to live on.

If it is multi-part, such as a season, then all the parts combined will be the determining amount.

  • BeeKaaay

    Start a “green” company.

    Donate big money to Obama.

Get MUCH BIGGER MONEY from taxpayers in return.
