Bias? What bias?

You wingnuts are always crying “bias” at such silly, insignificant things like the fact that the evil Mitt Romney hosted a debate moderator at his wedding.

Heh. Sorry, we mean President Obama attended VP debate moderator Martha Raddatz’s wedding in 1991 and oh-so-transparent ABC didn’t bother telling the public.

President Barack Obama was a guest at the 1991 wedding of ABC senior foreign correspondent and vice presidential debate moderator Martha Raddatz, The Daily Caller has learned. Obama and groom Julius Genachowski, whom Obama would later tap to head the Federal Communications Commission, were Harvard Law School classmates at the time and members of the Harvard Law Review.

Yes, it was decades ago and Raddatz is no longer married to Genachowski. And hey, it’s not like Obama attended her second wedding.

But not only did ABC execs decide it wasn’t worth disclosing to the public — they released a statement calling The Daily Caller’s inquiry into the Raddatz-Obama connection “absurd.” Journo-tools for Obama, anyone?

ABC panicked and preemptively leaked that statement to Politico before The Daily Caller even published its report.

So ABC found it necessary to downplay the appearance of bias when the news was about to break about her wedding guest list. But the network didn’t think it was worthwhile to clue the public in just for the sake of transparency.

Spin, lapdogs! Spin like your lives depend on it!

“‘Bias’ babies.” He actually tweeted that.

And CNBC’s John Harwood and HuffPo’s Sam Stein would say the same things if a journalist who attended the Romneys’ wedding was moderating the one and only vice presidential debate, right?

As’s John Nolte writes:

This is about the future of our country. The ABC network benefits from the public airwaves. Therefore, no detail is too small, no amount of transparency too petty. It’s up to us to decide what does and doesn’t matter — the public, the voters, the citizens, and the customers of ABC News.

And to not tell us this only makes us wonder why.

So, are they going to disclose the connection at the beginning of the debate and let the viewers decide? LOL! Like that is going to happen…

  • CAmom760

All you have to do is reverse it and imagine the reaction. If the moderator in the first debate was a former wife of one of Mitt Romney’s friends and classmates – instead of Jim Leher – who was STILL crucified, by the way, for “not being tough enough on Romney” –

Well, you can fill in the reaction.

As it is, there are lefties insisting obama should have been “allowed” to use a teleprompter.

This is just ridiculous. There are NO rules for the left.

    • Aestro

Lehrer was crucified for not being tough enough on anyone. Both candidates ran all over him all night. He completely lost control of that debate and allowed it to become two simultaneous stump speeches.

      • Fungi2bewith

        SPEED BUMP!

  • FlatFoot

    Go. Figure.

  • $24835958

Is Harwood still dating the democrat senator from Washington State?

  • Claire Adams

Like being called Raaaacist by the palace guard, being called “absurd” for my thoughts, concerns, or for looking objectively at facts- this latest insult on me, directly, by the MSM- rolls off my shoulder. “Par for the course,” to use a phrase our Pres would understand, regardless of the altitude.

  • Baba Ghanoush

Out of the 310 million people who live in America, you’re telling me they couldn’t find someone without ties to Obama?

  • Hank DeCat

A standard rule of ethics for all professions is to avoid the *appearance* of impropriety (attorneys actually have that rule codified in a Code of Ethics, but it is applicable to all professions). What is *sad* is that “real journalists” are apparently pretending that rule of ethics doesn’t exist. But, of course, even sadder, “real journalists” haven’t been following any kind of rules of ethics that I can see for a long while now.

    • ZoriahShepard

Ethics schmethics. I think that’s an actual course in journalism school these days.

  • kbielefe

ABC is right. It’s absurd to think you can find a truly neutral moderator in this day and age. Paul Ryan certainly doesn’t expect a friendly moderator. Let’s just have fun with this and push for Rush Limbaugh to host the next one. It’s only fair, after all, and liberals love to be fair.

  • Aestro

I was ready to jump on board until I found out the wedding was 21 years ago and that Obama was friends with Genachowski, not Raddatz. Genachowski attended Obama’s wedding without Raddatz, and they’ve been divorced for fifteen years.

Is it a connection? Yeah. Is it a significant enough one to take an experienced and quality foreign policy journalist off of a debate more than a decade after the fact? Probably not.

    • Harry Myers

Besides he was only invited because he had coke.

    • Fungi2bewith

Yeahhhhh, there;s not enough qualified MSM commentators around to find a better one. OK!

  • BigTBoom

Lets look at this through a different lens. If you were a lawyer choosing your jury, would you consider choosing this person as a fair juror to have in the box? I know juror and moderator are different, but I would still expect impartiality in both, and a historical social relationship is not a desirable characteristic that should be openly accepted in either.

  • Streetiebird

Where was all this fake concern during the 2004 Presidential debates where there was an ACTUAL conflict of interest? OH NOES MM LINK! For those too scared to click, Bob Scheiffer moderated a debate involving his good friend George W. Bush, after he had already served as the US ambassador to Australia and was appointed by George W. Bush.

    • Hank DeCat

Only children think 2 wrongs make a right.
Which explains why you support Obama — but it doesn’t make your “point” valid.

      • Streetiebird

Ummm so twenty years ago Obama went to the wedding, but now they’re divorced and separated. That’s not the same as an actual conflict of interest like what I cited. I was not saying they’re the same, I’m saying this current outrage is fake and misplaced and that the real conflict of interest was between Bush and his moderator. But if you’d prefer to run with lies, then that explains why you support Romney.

        • Hank DeCat

You can’t tell truth from lies & have to twist yourself into a pretzel & think that is “logic” when, in fact, you didn’t refute my basic point: two wrongs don’t make a right so pointing to a problem with the moderator’s bias/conflict of interest in 2004 doesn’t make it OK now (that’s what 2 wrongs don’t make a right means).
These deficits in your critical thinking abilities explain why you’re an Obama supporter.

Plus, like most Obama supporters, you’re completely unoriginal too.

          • Streetiebird

Let me be clear. Attending a wedding twenty years ago does not automatically create a conflict of interest, no matter what your masters tell you. However being a close friend, golf partner, and appointee of the person you’re going to moderate actually does create a conflict of interest. I know it’s hard for you to tell the difference between being BFFs with someone and attending their wedding two decades ago, but there actually is a difference.

          • Hank DeCat

Buddy, I understand what YOU are saying — you are the one who doesn’t have a hang on the whole “2 wrongs don’t make a right” and critical thinking things.

So let me be clear: In the long run, none of this matters. Obama’s going to lose anyway.

          • Streetiebird

*sigh* okay bro, I get what you’re saying too, that attending a wedding 20 years ago is actually WORSE than being BFFs with the moderator.

          • Hank DeCat

Dude — you obviously don’t “get ” anything – in fact, you’ve not only proved several times in this thread that you don’t “get” it, you actually have devolved into bragging about how ignorant you are. You’re not just ignorant, you are gleefully wallowing in your ignorance. But, OTOH, that is *exactly* how stupid you’d have to be to support Obama.

          • Streetiebird

LOL Hank :) You’re precious. Thanks for making me smile.

          • Streetiebird

Runs With Lies is Professor Warren’s Native American name. You are confused. She’s with the other party.

          • Streetiebird

She runs with Romney? I guess I am confused… Your guys have divorced themselves from facts and are proud of it, Ann is so angry that Obama is childishly calling Romney out on his blatant lies.

  • Conservative First

This is the same ABC who ran an ABCNews Pro-Obamacare Special prior to the Obamacare vote…. what bias?

  • Discontentwliars

It would be great if the moderators just came out and said they are biased, and promise to try and be fair. Honesty and clarity is what their missing now. All reporters should admit bias if they have it. At least they wouldn’t just be pretending not to be.

  • PeterP

The issue isn’t that he attended her wedding, but that he was buddies with her then husband. It is reasonable to assume that he and Michelle were also friends with her. If the moderator was the ex-wife of a law school pal of Romney’s, the left would be raging against the machine.

  • Yeeheecom

We will see tomorrow if there are any bias won’t we? But if there are any bias I think Ryan will put her in her place 😉

  • [email protected]

The MSM has no one to blame but them selves. If they weren’t such lap dogs for the left no one would care

    • Aestro

When you sit at the poker table and can’t find the sucker, it’s you. The fact that the GOP complains about the “Mainstream Media” so often should tell you something other than how much of a victim your party is.

  • Fungi2bewith

Ryan should start out by saying he thinks it’s “shameful” that she accepted the moderator duties, given her friendship with the Obamas. Watch her squirm & turn red.
She’ll stammer & stutter for the rest of the night. Her mind will be somewhere else.
Sort of like Obama’s at the first debate.

  • bicentennialguy

Funny that the VP debate moderator has questions of conflict of interest swirling around her, JUST LIKE the last VP debate moderator….

  • Midnight Cow

Everyone should pressure @ABC to have @MarthaRaddatz make an “in the interest of full disclosure” statement regarding Obama at her wedding. If she’s so fair, and has so much integrity, as her supporters keep insisting, then this shouldn’t be a problem. #transparency #VPdebate
