Six-term incumbent Rep. Jim Matheson has not only lost his lead over Republican Mia Love in the Utah congressional race — she’s now beating him 51-36, according to a new internal poll.

https://twitter.com/She_PAC/statuses/250953571951050754

As Glenn Reynolds notes at Instapundit, “Some Democrats seem not to be taking it that well.”

Police are investigating a packet of vile racist pictures sent to Love’s office in Saratoga Springs, Utah.

City Manager Mark Christensen described the contents of the thick envelope as “disturbing” and “pretty creepy stuff.” He said it included a picture of Love and her husband, Jason, and a hooded Ku Klux Klan character. There also were pictures of aborted fetuses, he said.

There’s no word on where the pictures came from. But Love, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, has been the repeated target of despicable race- and gender-based attacks by the Left.

With Love surging ahead in the race, Mother Jones wanted in on the action. The lefty rag dropped the thin pretense of tolerance and celebration of diversity to go after Love and her parents.

The title is “GOP Rising Star Mia Love: ‘Anchor Baby’?”

Note the question mark and quotes around “anchor baby.” The Mother Jones writer isn’t saying Love is an “anchor baby” to undermine her huge lead; she’s just “asking questions” about “what Republicans derisively call an ‘anchor baby’.” You know, by suggesting her parents “gamed the immigration system” and raising questions about Love’s truthfulness.

Note to Mother Jones’ readers: Love’s parents came to the United States as legal immigrants. Not that she had much say in the matter.

An ABC affiliate interviewed Love about the “anchor baby” accusation. She blasted Mother Jones and told the interviewer she did not recall saying she was her “family’s ticket to America.”

ABC 4: “Just one last time, for the record…your parents didn’t get to stay in this country because you were born here?”

Mia Love: “Chris, what if they did? So what? What if they did? I mean they are legal. They are legal U.S. citizens. I was born in this country.”

Second verse, same as the first.

The more the left exposes themselves for what they are the better, rational Democrats are watching this unfold and its no wonder there is a mass exodus from the party

It ain’t my daddy’s DFL party anymore…that is why he’s JUMPING OFF the DNC carnival ride. Lots of moderate blue dog dems that are sick of the VOMIT on TV.

Ms. Love is the real deal. I wish her well on her campaign. The Congress can use more like here.

The dems/libs act like children with a bad diaper rash. Whining & crying. When a Black Republican comes along the dems/libs now start pooping in their pants. Grow the fuck up, you sniveling little shits.

I am willing to bet that the investigation will reveal some pitiful little group that has No H8 bumper stickers on all their foreheads and no mirrors to remind them of their own rules. Id vote for her over the asshat anyday.

Whenever they’re faced with either a woman, or a minority who is conservative and/or Republican, the innate racism and sexism of the left comes to the surface. The left are the most hate filled, bigoted and angry people this side of Islamic terrorists.

Jeff, I think if they had the same access to explosives and weapons, you wouldn’t be able to tell the lefties from the Jihadists.

Powerful statement there, Jeff…wow. It breaks my heart that the majority of voting public can not see the ghosts of the victims you’ve rightfully invoked…

          • JeffWRidge

I hope that the majority of the public knows better, but you are probably right. Far too many people have been brainwashed by a poor educational system, a biased media and an entertainment industry that seems to enjoy misrepresenting the truth about history.

  • John (it true me am)

The left again willfully ignores the difference between legal immigrants and illegal.

So, did you actually read the article and decide whether to refute it or not or just use the leftist tactic of squealing “racist” when you saw something you didn’t like?

This incident is not being reported in the Salt Lake Tribune, which is a
typical left-wing rag. It also prides itself in continuing to be what
it started as – an anti-Mormon paper to compete with the Deseret News,
which is owned, but not operated by the Mormon Church. (I predict that
some leftist will make the claim that it is operated by the Mormon
Church, but that would be the typical response of a leftist who lives in
Utah and thinks the Mormons control everything here. But I digress).

    Anyway,
I’m proud to state that I’m spending a bit of my free time at Love
election headquarters each week in order to help her become the first
black conservative woman elected to US Congress.

And to take a page from the progressive playbook, I’ll state that anyone who doesn’t support Mia’s campaign is a racist.

Thanks. We’re hoping she can unseat Matheson and the chances are looking really good right now. She absolutely destroyed Matheson in their first debate tonight – one that Matheson tried to get out of – and the latest polls show that she’s up 51-36. That’s a 28 point swing since July.

Yeah, because the right on twitter (or FOX news) NEVER makes race-based attacks on political figures. It’s not like they would call a sitting President racist names or show racist pictures, or imply he isn’t American, or say he’s not a Christian, because the right is incredibly tolerant of race, as long as it’s not one of them brown ones, you know the ones. LOL

Anybody can be an idiot on Twitter, but some cites for when Fox News conducted race-based attacks on political figures would be nice.

Here’s one I found after 10 seconds: http://www.newscorpse.com/ncWP/?p=8002 If you want more there’s plenty.

Yeah, on Fox Nation, which is not the same as Fox News. You run into the same issue you have with Twitter: any idiot could go on there and start their own page.

It’s like me going onto Newsvine (MSNBC’s analogue of Fox Nation) and pulling a story some random leftist nutjob wrote about how Romney uses live puppies as toilet paper.

          • Streetiebird

Actually FOX posts those headlines themselves to mislead the public and bait liberals. It’s not at all like twitter, it’s just the place FOX has decided to put their most outrageous lies, instead of on their main page like they used to.

          • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHY_xOj2M_g PistolsForPandas

            FOX posts those headlines themselves

Point taken. Still, as far as I can tell, Fox Nation is a just a news aggregator like Drudge, kept separate from Fox News. Big frigging whoop.

Again, I’m looking for racial attacks by Fox News.

          • Streetiebird

Sure, here’s Fox News contributor, and venom-monger, Michelle Malkin herself saying that blacks are the real perps: “But I wonder, and I think many people do who have observed this festering aggrievement in the inner cities, whether it’s too late. Now we have had some role models in the black community, particularly Bill Cosby, who has been sending that ‘pull your pants up and get your act together’ message for a long time but there have been too many in the minority community, too many in the Congressional Black Caucus, for example, Maxine Waters types who are excusers and rationalizers and who have turned the perpetrators into the victims. I mean, it’s this whole welfare state mentality where people’s violent acts have been excused.”

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000094964069 Heather Ann

okay, the original premise is that Fox News made a race based attack on President Obama… Where is that attack in the quote you posted? I’m simply seeing a point made about blacks and victimhood.

            ~Quinn

          • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHY_xOj2M_g PistolsForPandas

That’s not what she’s saying at all. She’s saying is that people like Maxine Waters have instilled in certain urban communities feelings of entitlement which, in turn, lead to violence, despite the efforts of people like Bill Cosby.

If anything, Maxine Waters and the Congressional Black Caucus are the perpetrators in this quote.

            Try again.

          • Streetiebird

And FOX Nation is not an aggregator, they hand pick each and every article.

          • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHY_xOj2M_g PistolsForPandas

I’ve never heard anyone call Obama a racist name. I’m too busy calling him a Socialist Dictator to notice his race. You leftists pricks yell racism every time someone disagrees with Obama.
As for not being American, there has never been actual proof of his citizenship. I am not referring to the birth certificate issue. Obama was legally adopted by his Indonesian stepfather. He attended public school in Indonesia as a citizen. There is no record of him regaining American citizenship.
If he’s a Christian, why does he always side against other Christians? Never, not once, has he denounced Islam or stood up for the Christians of this nation or the Middle East. It’s always the Christians and the Jews that provoke the Muslims.
We aren’t the ones calling black conservatives nasty racist names. You are threatened by blacks who are empowered because you want them under government control.

      • Streetiebird

If you’ve never heard him called a racist name then you must not read what some people on your side are saying on places like freerepublic. Good luck living in a world of lies.

            Black & Right
            The Dixiecrat Myth

“I contacted Professor Larry Schweikart of the University of Dayton for advice. Larry and I worked on adocumentary based on a chapter on Ronald Reagan from his best-selling book, A Patriot’s History of the United States. The idea that “the Dixiecrats joined the Republicans” is not quite true, as you note. But because of Strom Thurmond it is accepted as a fact. What happened is that the **next** generation (post 1965) of white southern politicians — Newt, Trent Lott, Ashcroft, Cochran, Alexander, etc — joined the GOP.So it was really a passing of the torch as the old segregationists retired and were replaced by new young GOP guys. One particularly galling aspect to generalizations about “segregationists became GOP” is that the new GOP South was INTEGRATED for crying out loud, they accepted the Civil Rights revolution. Meanwhile, Jimmy Carter led a group of what would become “New” Democrats like Clinton and Al Gore.
            ——

There weren’t many Republicans in the South prior to 1964, but that doesn’t mean the birth of the souther GOP was tied to “white racism.” That said, I am sure there were and are white racist southern GOP. No one would deny that. But it was the southern Democrats who were the party of slavery and, later, segregation. It was George Wallace, not John Tower, who stood in the southern schoolhouse door to block desegregation! The vast majority of Congressional GOP voted FOR the Civil Rights of 1964-65. The vast majority of those opposed to those acts were southern Democrats. Southern Democrats led to infamous filibuster of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.The confusion arises from GOP Barry Goldwater’s vote against the ’64 act. He had voted in favor or all earlier bills and had led the integration of the Arizona Air National Guard, but he didn’t like the “private property” aspects of the ’64 law. In other words, Goldwater believed people’s private businesses and private clubs were subject only to market forces, not government mandates (“We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.”) His vote against the Civil Rights Act was because of that one provision was, to my mind, a principled mistake.
            ———–
Richard Nixon was also a proponent of Civil Rights; it was a CA colleague who urged Ike to appoint Warren to the Supreme Court; he was a supporter of Brown v. Board, and favored sending troops to integrate Little Rock High). Nixon saw he could develop a “Southern strategy” based on Goldwater’s inroads. He did, but Independent Democrat George Wallace carried most of the deep south in 68.
            —————

Why did a new generation white Southerners join the GOP? Not because they thought Republicans were racists who would return the South to segregation, but because the GOP was a “local government, small government” party in the old Jeffersonian tradition. Southerners wanted less government and the GOP was their natural home. ”
            ———————

            Game, Set, Match

          • Aestro

Even if Goldwater WAS a supporter of Civil Rights, he opposed the act in 1964 and LBJ supported it, and it cost Democrats the “Solid South”. Anyone that thinks that shift away from Democrats in 1964 and 1968 was about “states rights” rather than racism probably thinks the Civil War was only about taxation. “States Rights” was the dog-whistle code for segregation. Even today, “States rights” is used often (but not exclusively) as a straw man when talking about gay marriage.

I’m from Tennessee. I understand that there’s a lot more going on in politics in the South than race. There are still racist Republicans and racist Democrats, like the psychopath that mailed the photos to Mia Love. But the voters in ’64 that went Republicans and in ’68 that voted Wallace after he went independent? Yeah, that was racist backlash. Democrats have struggled in the South since.

I agree that it is more about states rights NOW. Parties aren’t running on pro-racism platforms. Even the rebel flag has a weird mix of people that talk about states rights but also happen to have racist attitudes, and people that genuinely take regional or state pride in the south and legitimately view the flag as a symbol of valuing local over federal government.

Regardless, my point still stands. Democrats had more numbers voting against the Civil Rights and Voting Acts in 1964 and 1965, but geographically it was the North voting for them and the South voting against them, and the South is the stronghold of the modern GOP. It’s disingenuous to imply that Democrats are racist and Republicans aren’t based on events 50 (or 150, in the case of Lincoln) years ago. You wouldn’t call Democrats the party of States Rights anymore, would you?

        • Love of Country

Started voting Republican? Beyond a couple disaffected congressmen, Dems never started voting Republican. Why would they? Republicans are the only reason Johnson could pass Voter Rights, you fool. Ninety nine percent of the Dems in congress who filibusterd civil rights stayed put in the DNC including Grand Kleagle of the KKK, Bobby Byrd. Most Dems in congress opposed Johnson on Voter Rights. Had Eisenhower still been in power then he would have passed Voter Rights and the Dems would have opposed him instead of Johnson.

Johnson didn’t give a damn about black people … the ONLY reason he passed Voter Rights was in the name of political expediency.

Said Lyndon Johnson on Air Force One ….. “If we can pass Voter Rights … we’ll have those n*ggers voting for us for the next 200 years.” …

          THAT Lyndon Johnson???

The Lyndon Johnson who filibustered Eisenhower’s measures to defeat DNC Segregation? THAT Lyndon Johnson???

The Lyndon Johnson who was fond of using the n word and relied on 80% of the GOP in congress to pass through Voter Rights while the majority of Democrats opposed it?

          THAT Lyndon Johnson???

          ROTFFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!

Ever since the DNC flipped the script and capitalized on Johnson’s nefarious plan to steal the black vote … and “take them under their wing” …. fatherlessnesss has skyrocketed to 80% and homicides have reached 9000 annually in those same communities. This is due to premeditated welfare addiction perpetrated upon them by today’s racist DNC to keep their vote. Never mind the DNC prevents anyone from addressing that increasing dysfunction because to the DNC …. these are straight ticket voters who will now only look to the govt for sustenance instead of the guy in the mirror. Today’s DNC has purposefully polluted their minds with dog whistle racists around every corner who want to keep them down so don’t even bother trying … just turn to the DNC and we’ll give you all that money we collected from those “God-awful racist Republicans”.

Today’s uber racist DNC wants the black community completely addicted to welfare and completely steeped in racism …. they could care less about the 80% fatherlessness and and rampant crime that predictably ensued … in fact … if someone tries to address those wicked problems stemming from DNC racism … they are quickly excoriated and called a racist piece of garbage instead of being championed like they should. Don’t believe me? Just ask Bill Cosby or anyone of your moral, fiscal, intellectual and patriotic superiors across the aisle.

Beyond that, Mia Love is awesome and your side hates her because she is black and female. You want to guess which local and state races the national DNC invests the most money in? The racist, sexest DNC invests the most money in races where the GOP opposition is black or female …. you can’t make this stuff up! So they discourage, intimidate and outspend anyone in the GOP who isn’t a white male and then turn around and shamelessly ask why are there so many old white dudes in your Party. Based upon some of their rhetoric, you would think they would celebrate growing diversity in the GOP instead of pulling out every despicable stop under the sun to try and prevent it.

What an unfortunate open book the DNC is and has been for 200 years.

          • Aestro

I said the Civil Rights Act of 1964, not the Voting Rights Act of 1965, SOUTHERN Dems in Congress opposed it, as did Southern Republicans. The results are similar, though.

            Southern Democrats: 7–87 (7–93%)Southern Republicans: 0–10 (0–100%)Northern Democrats: 145–9 (94–6%)Northern Republicans: 138–24 (85–15%)The Senate version:Southern Democrats: 1–20 (5–95%)Southern Republicans: 0–1 (0–100%)Northern Democrats: 45–1 (98–2%)Northern Republicans: 27–5 (84–16%)

Following this, Democrats in the South felt betrayed by those in the North and started to jump ship. I never said LBJ was a Paragon. I said Southern Democrats resented him for siding with the Northerners and started to jump ship.

You’re right – there are problems in black communities, and they support Democrats now in large part because of public assistance. Republican rhetoric doesn’t do you any favors though – this change to referring to any government money as “handouts” or “entitlement” are meant to demean those in need. Are there those that abuse them? Certainly. At the same time, as you stated African-American fatherlessness rates are disturbingly high – Obama said the same thing on Father’s Day while campaigning in 2008. It’s one of his best speeches. What is the solution? A half-decent day cares costs about half my take-home pay, and I make well above minimum wage. How does a single mom go to work when she would barely be able to pay for child care, much less food, shelter, clothes, and some modicum of happiness?

Segregation was legally abolished and rights granted, but programs like Affirmative Action still have purpose – for most Americans, wealth is generational. Once segregation legally ended, it’s not like African Americans were suddenly able to afford nice houses in the suburbs. Black communities suffer – they’ve been poor by nature, and when you group a lot of poor people together, you have local communities without a stable economy. People that can’t get jobs turn to crime. Some turn to crime because it’s just what they grew up with. It’s a vicious cycle.

And here’s the problem – the GOP lacks policies that help. They only want to end hand-outs and promote “equality”. It’s well-known that there are problems within black communities. The GOP attacks programs to grant easy access to birth control. The GOP attacks abortion (I have mixed opinions there, but that’s another discussion). The GOP attacks the mother once she has the child because she shouldn’t have had sex in the first place The GOP attacks government financial assistance, even food stamps or housing. The GOP attacks government health insurance. The GOP attacks Affirmative Action, that might help put black people into school or jobs. You’re right that Republicans have a strong history of supporting black voters – so why did you stop?

We don’t dislike Mia Love because she’s a black woman. We dislike her because we’re Democrats and she tows the party line for Republicans. END. OF. STORY.

          • Love of Country

The problem with black communities is the lack of GOP policies??? That’s just ignorant. They’re like that because of DNC policies and the DNC wants them under their thumb voting straight ticket for life. Any time a Republican interjects they are run out of town on a rail being called racist all the way out. The DNC has worked hard to maintain the status quo in black neighborhoods and will even eviscerate one of their own if need be ie Bill Cosby to maintain said status quo.

The solutions are simple …. stop giving them built-in excuses and incentives to fail. Stop mainstreaming handouts and foodstamps. Stop mainstreaming teenage pregnancy and poo pooing traditional marriage. Stop calling us racist for telling them to pull up their pants and get a job. Stop looking the other way at rampant crime and calling us racist for reporting it.

Everything the DNC does in the black community contributes to their demise and anyone with a brain can see it. You teach them learned helplessness and instill them with racism so they feel like complete victims of circumstances rather than pulling themselves up by their bootstraps. In an effort to curb such behavior, you should be condemning them every day for abandoning their own children which is a massive part of the problem. What they need is conservative values …. like they had in the 30’s and 40’s back when they respected their elders and spouses and the value of an education.

Black Republicans have their sh t together … why in the world would the DNC be obsessed with steering blacks away from that obvious salvation ….. it’s because they’re a bunch of evil, petty racists with an agenda.

As far as Mia Love goes …. she scares the hell out of the Left because she’s an awesome black female. If you don’t know that then you’re just ignorant. The Left is 100% obsessed with this narrative of only old white men in the GOP and are obsessed with perpetuating this pathetic racist narrative of theirs no matter what or how many despicable lies they must tell. Ask any minority in the GOP who has made their life in the GOP more difficult or unpleasant and they will all tell you the DNC has treated them like sh t … not the GOP! Never mind the national DNC has already spent well over 2 million dollars to defeat Mia and racist Dems are predictably sending her threat after threat.

Oh yeah … you brought up segreagation and affirmative action. Here’s some more news. The GOP ended your DNC segregation while LBJ unsuccessfully filibustered us and the GOP also started affirmative action which you Dems bastardized and turned into a tool to keep the black man down under the thumb of big govt ie Democrats. Few black Americans know that it was Republicans who founded the Historically BIack Colleges and Universities. Unknown also is the fact that Republican Sen. Everett Dirksen from Illinois was key to the passage of civil rights legislation in 1957, 1960, 1964 and 1965. And not many know that the extension of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is the fact that Dirksen wrote the language for the bill. Dirksen also crafted the language for the Civil Rights Act of 1968 which prohibited discrimination in housing. President Lyndon Johnson could not have achieved passage of civil rights legislation without the 90% support of Republicans …. but I digress.

What happens when one of us says stop wearing your pants around your knees and apply for a job? What happens when we say stop abandoning your children? What happens if we say stop letting your children listen to gangsta rap? What happens if we say go to a real church and not that black liberation theology garbage ie Phleger and Wright?

We’ve got plenty of solutions but the racist gatekeepers of the DNC aren’t having it! They demand the status quo and roundly label anyone trying to improve it as racists! (Go Figure!)

          • redheadgrl

Just addressing this: “Once segregation legally ended, it’s not like African Americans were suddenly able to afford nice houses in the suburbs. Black communities suffer – they’ve been poor by nature, and when you group a lot of poor people together, you have local communities without a stable economy.”
In Atlanta, there is an area known as Sweet Auburn. Back in the 30s, 40s, 50s, it was an all black area, with black owned businesses, and nice homes. The black community was very successful, wealthy, educated, and prosperous. They depended on each other, and supported black-owned businesses because of the segregation laws – and were successful despite of them. I’m sure there were similar communities in large cities in other areas of the country. These communities didn’t start failing until the family unit was destroyed.

I agree with you, what we see in urban areas is now a vicious cycle, and the ‘urban culture’ mindset has to be changed. Education is the key. People can’t get jobs that pay well without an education. One way to do this is school vouchers or charter schools, which in the state of GA are fought heavily by the Democratic party.

          • Aestro

I like the notion of charter schools in theory, especially with the problems from NCLB. They allow for creative teachers to thrive and can give a bit of leeway to schools whose problems go far beyond whether teachers are “good” or “bad”. In practice, we’ve seen very mixed results. States with strict standards end up not meeting those standards and failing. States with relaxed standards end up with third-rate schools. They also tend to be noticeably smaller than public schools and cost roughly the same per student to run.

I get nervous about vouchers – I don’t really like the idea of diverting money away from public schools to send a few kids to private schools, many of which are religious (at least growing up in the South they were) and almost always in rich white neighborhoods.

But I don’t know what the solution for public schools is either. One of the best things happening is the increased focus on early childcare – things like preschool and in-home visitations from social workers. Teaching parents how to raise their child using positive techniques instead of yelling at them, getting them to read to kids, and socializing them with other kids at young ages does wonders for social techniques later on, which almost always translates to better education. Those programs are difficult to get funding for because it’s hard to place numeric values, kids that lose that attention often regress, and you don’t see the payoff for young kids for years.

Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen (R-IL) criticizes Democrat filibuster against 1964 Civil Rights Act, calls on Democrats to stop opposing racial equality. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was introduced and approved by a staggering majority of Republicans in the Senate. Tolerance for me, but not for thee. How true. Such double standards coming from the Zombie side. Those KKK pictures and all just prove the Left is intolerant, murderous, racist, and hateful.

They’re full of hate and always have been. The Left were raised by liberals ie dishonest and incompetent people who have been passing their immense dysfunction down to their spawn for more than 20 generations. This me, me, me crap sounds good at first blush but any Republican can tell you it’s a recipe for disaster.

Beyond that, liberalism is a lie and everyone who props it up and or supports it is a pathological liar 99 times out of 100.

Democrats are extremely racist and dishonest. Out of one side of their mouth they pretend to lament the lack of color in the GOP and out of the other side of their mouth they’re saying to all black folk …. don’t you dare join the GOP, house-n*gger, or we’ll destroy your career and reputation.

DNC birthers are the real racists. The only reason birthers popped up on the Right is Because Hillary’s supporters sued Barry to see his birth certificate and he spent over a million dollars to keep it hidden. Anyone with a brain wanted to know why. But racist pieces of garbage on the Left desperately spread the lies that racism was behind the curiousity and not common sense.

Birthers on the Left have no such legitimate excuse to call her an anchor baby …. they just hate her because she’s a black female.

If she was a liberal Democrat, you wouldn’t hear any of this, she would be the “Female Obama”. Maybe they’re afraid that a black woman of Haitian descent being elected in Utah (not known for a large black population) would prove once and for all that Republicans will vote for the best person, not the one that looks like them. The Democrats can’t stand for a person of color to step outside the “boundary” and be successful. They hate Colonel West, Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas, and more recently, Artur Davis and Mia Love. They can’t afford to let other blacks see that there is a better life outside the Democrat party because the Democrats have done everything they can to keep them dependant on the government so they can depend on their votes.
