Naturally, Twitterers assumed that their favorite celebrity Taylors were dead.

Sigh. Not Taylor Lautner either.
The presumably older, but not necessarily wiser crowd also misinterpreted the #RIPTaylor hashtag.

I thought #RIPTaylor meant Rip Taylor died and people were getting clever with it… turns out it's another nobody no one's ever heard of.

When I saw the hashtag #RIPTaylor appear, I thought Rip Taylor had passed away.

Apparently no one assumed it was Taylor Dayne or Taylor Hicks.
As celebrity death rumors swirled, the Twitterverse paid respects to the late Taylor Nesseth.

Chelsea Grin responded to the rumors:
Our hearts go out to the person who died today. We still don't know everything that happened but it's no time for jokes on our page.

Police say Nesseth’s death was probably due to a medical issue.
