Geraldo Rivera is now whining about the fact that others don’t like his opinion on gun control. Dear Geraldo, you are a public figure with a national television show. You are going to get criticism. Get over it.

Here’s a synopsis of Geraldo’s “proposals” from FireArmsPolicy.org:

In a January 5 broadcast on Fox News, Geraldo Rivera outlined and argued for his own gun control proposals, which included a national registration scheme and an outright ban of common self-defense firearms like semi-automatic rifles (except, of course, for the political elite).

There were some good points thrown back at him in response:

Before Saturday’s broadcast, he tweeted this tease:

And this may be the best point made on the subject:

That makes two of us… In the last 3 years, they only people they have hired have been left wing shills… If I wanted the Left’s opinion, I’ll tune into MSNBC.

Is Ford responsible for all the people killed by people drunk driving in a Ford? Where are the sensible car restrictions?

    • Hiraghm

No, they’re only responsible for the drunk illegal aliens who kill people by driving drunk.

      • wwbdinct

You should try living here in wacky CT. They are now proposing that all illegal immigrants should be able to get their driver’s licenses. Their reasoning is that everyone will be safer if the illegals are licensed. Try and wrap your head around that one!

        • GaryTheBrave

Didn’t you know having that little piece of paper in your wallet automatically made you much safer?

        • rennyangel2

But they are also (CT) considering publishing the names and addresses of legal gun owners. Sounds a little Constitutionally confused to me.

“Where are the sensible car restrictions?”

seat belts, airbags, speed limits, ect.

      • GaryTheBrave

Most of the “reasonable” gun restrictions are proposed by people WHO HATE GUNS!

      • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

And 100 000 still die annually behind the wheel. We need more car laws and stricter car laws, and cars to get oversize cars that no-one really needs off the road! CARS KILL!

Are there no laws stating that it is unlawful to murder your fellow man?

    • rogueco

I prefer to use the argument of alcohol consumption. Automobiles have a specific use/function/benefit to users. Guns can also be argued to have a use or purpose, even if people only agree that it is hunting. Last I checked, any firearm could conceivably be used for hunting, although some are obviously better suited than others

Alcohol though – what is the practical purpose of alcohol? There is none.Yet it’s use can be harmful to the person who consumes it, as well as those he/she comes in contact with (drunk driving, domestic violence, etc.). 10,000+ deaths/yr caused by drunk driving, and who knows how many more by violent crime involving alcohol (yes, including shootings).

How many people who call for a ban on guns would also call for a ban on alcohol? Not too many, I ‘m guessing.

Let’s just ban psycho nutjobs. There are fewer of them than there are guns, and being a dangerous psycho nutjob is not a freedom guaranteed in the Constitution.

And for the love of God and Country, can we please finally have a debate in this country about a background check for voter registration?

The point of the Bill of Rights is to not compromise. They are mutually exclusive, so damn right (no pun intended) we’re rigid on the 2nd Amendment, and the 1st, the 3rd, etc.

    • Hiraghm

The 1st specifically restricts the federal government. The 2nd restricts everyone. The difference between “…shall make no law…” and “…shall not be infringed”.
Most of the laws on the books violate the 2nd.

You’re wrong. There is no prohibition in 2A against any individual.

The guy is a total loser. Boycot his show and sponsors.
Jerkaldo was also physically removed from the Iraq invasion for jeopardizing our troops lives by disclosing our troops locations and movements to the enemy.
I hope this jerkoff is not a member of the NRA and if he is, that he resign immediately.
He needs his teeth kicked in.

  • GaryTheBrave

I saw that show. To be fair to Jerry he had on a rep from both Gun Owners of America and The Brady Campaign. He didn’t let them talk over each other but he did interrupt the GOA guy several times.

One of his proposals was nationwide registration of all guns. The SCOTUS ruled that registration is an undue burden to exercising Constitutional rights.

Another of his proposals is a criminal and psychological background check on all purchasers. That would be a violation of HIPPA law and may deter lawful citizens from seeking mental/emotional care for a temporary condition such as grief counseling. Criminal checks are already done through NICS.

I ask gun-grabbers to name something that we have not already tried. Whatever they mention has been tried and failed. Finally they say what they really want: Confiscate all the guns. I argue that if you can’t deport 15- million illegals then it’ll be even more difficult to confiscate 300-million guns.

    Dear Geraldo, Please stop (1) pretending you’re a Libertarian and, ( 2 ) pretending you’re relevant.
    Thank you.

Because proponents of gun control never make personal attacks on supporters of the 2nd amendment.

You’ve been a sham from the beginning. Why do you even believe you are cogent or relevant today?

Jer-aldo lost any credibility he had back during the Gulf War when he was drawing out battle plans in the dirt and commenting on them – on live television.
I would have said he couldn’t sink any lower than standing in front of Al Capone’s empty ‘vault’ and singing, but he keeps on digging…

@Geraldo, I’m surprised you even have a NRA Card. I agree that nobody really cares you’re an NRA member. They should boot you.

Geraldo is another “journalist” who has a problem with anyone dissenting from his point of view. The truth is putting your opinions into the public square naturally invites criticism from those who disagree with you. On such a fundamental personal rights issue as gun rights, you have to expect an energetic and impassioned opposition to any proposal for cessation of those rights. So my message to Geraldo is either suck it up and accept the dynamics of the debate your engaged in, or STFU.

Reports indicate that vast numbers of patients dying in hospitals have been given oxygen. Obviously breathing oxygen kills people and must be banned. But let’s be reasonable. Breathing can still be done but only if you breathe really shallow and after being certified by a medical professional.
