A Confederate monument called “Silent Sam” that was erected on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was toppled by protesters last night:

The statue does have an ugly past with white supremacist Julian Carr saying at its dedication, “Confederate soldiers ‘saved the very life of the Anglo Saxon race'”:
