REPORT: @Nero 'permanently banned' by Twitter over tweets to Ghostbusters actress

Whoa.

Buzzfeed reports that Breitbart tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos has been “permanently banned” by Twitter over a series of tweets directed at “Ghostbusters” actress Leslie Jones:

BREAKING: Twitter has permanently banned Breitbart's Milo Yiannopoulos (@nero) for repeated violations: https://t.co/ZTgSJpVeaD

— Ellie Hall (@ellievhall) July 20, 2016

Tweeters had been sending Jones pictures comparing her to a gorilla, which eventually led to a back-and-forth with Yiannopoulos, which then led to more hate.

@Nero I'm hearing this guy is a columnist how sad. Is this how he gets his readers thru supporting hate? I'm acting like a victim? Nice job

— Leslie Jones ? (@Lesdoggg) July 19, 2016

@Nero you can say what you want about my work but when you support hate, that's not right. Wonder do your readers know you support hate!!

— Leslie Jones ? (@Lesdoggg) July 19, 2016

@Nero pretty that you support racist sending me pics of gorillas. Is that how you get your readers thru hate? You're cool with harassment?

It seems one of the tweets that set off the outrage was a doctored tweet calling Yiannopoulos an “uncleTom fag” (doctored version on top, Jones’ response on the bottom):

THIS WAS NOT ME!! OK TWITTER IM DONE!! IF YALL CAN LET THIS SHIT HAPPEN I DONT WANT TO BE HERE. I DID NOT POST THIS pic.twitter.com/CDGbuOHJN4

— Leslie Jones ? (@Lesdoggg) July 19, 2016

The writing was on the wall when Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey got involved:

Hi Leslie, following, please DM me when you have a moment

— jack ??? (@jack) July 19, 2016

With the end result being Jones giving up on Twitter:

I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie. You can hate the movie but the shit I got today…wrong

And we’ll obviously be hearing much, much more about this:
