At a Google Hangout question and answer session, a worker told President Obama that his hours had been cut due to Obamacare. Obama’s solution?

Obama has economic advisors?

Raise the minimum wage to counter the economic effects of Obamacare? How about just repealing for starters?

There really is no deciphering that kind of “logic.”

O basically spit on the guy and stepped over him right?

    • Worship Dancer

no he did spit on the guy but he stepped ON him not over him.

  • Steven S Mellnick

FFS, the incompetence w/ the President is no longer surprising. When are people going to wake up?

Stop being silent and afraid. Get a thick skin, let them call you a racist, just make sure your voice is heard.

    • Worship Dancer

when they call me a racist i just laugh and shake my head. then i call THEM a racist, a homophobe, a bigot, anti-semitic. when they ask what i mean i tell them all the murdered babies were either black, chinese, mexican, white jewish, Christian, etc. and as they claim babies are BORN queer that means that they also murdered queer babies.

      • Calcat36

Born queer? So how many babies are born rapists, thieves, murderers, pedophiles…

        • Ryan Schneider.

Philosophy collides with biology: is there such a thing as bad seed? The religious say no, we are all born innocent, and that sociopathy is an aspect of the mystery of inequity, but still rooted in free will. Biological fatalists, however, see us as slaves to out wiring. Not that most species of homosexuality should fall on either interpretation; most are quite capable of choosing whether or not to peruse a sexual relationship, so it is a matter of convincing them on whether or not they have a soul, and whether or not salvation requires chastity.

          • Don Meaker

Christians say we are all born sinners, fallen, guilty of original sin. It is humanists who assert that children are innocent. Reality is what it is.

          • Ryan Schneider.

Fulton J. Sheen once said that there are not 100 people in the world who hate Christianity. There are, however, millions who hate what they mistakenly believe Christianity to be. The misnomer you have just stated is a case in point. Orthodox Christianity has consistently taught that there is no such thing a child born with personal sin. It’s a nonsensical concept for anyone that understands causality, and the church has always proclaimed a causal universe, with GOD as the first, ultimate cause. A child cannot be guilty of something he hasn’t done yet! Original sin refers to a hereditary defect that makes it inevitable that anyone who reaches the age of reason, (which can vary depending on intelligence and education) will eventually be tempted to at least commit a mild sin on occasion, and at least occasionally submit. The only exceptions are Jesus and His Mother, they were born without this defect, and were uniquly capable of completely disregarding all temptations, albeit still by choice.
Reality is what GOD has Made it, and He Is What He IS. The more I study humanist philosophy, the less human is seems to become, completely divorced from all human conviction, tradition and history. It seems that it would be more accurate to call it SUPERhumanism, in the sense of Fredrick Nietzsche’s uberman, as it seems to be an alien philosophy that is supposed to somehow supplant our natural order, but it does not work. Every community that has fully embraced it is dying out, as a direct consequence of it, and will either be extinct in the next 100-150 years, or be conquered at some point by more aggressive, traditional cultures then Christians. So asserting that children are innocent is all and well, but failing to teach them about sin is like living in Cambodia and failing to teach about land mines.

          • Clete Torres

Wrong. Catholics subscribe to the notion of original sin. Most others do not.

          • Worship Dancer

nope Christians, at least the ones in my circle, say babies are innocent.

          • E Richard Brewster

Actually the traditional Christian view is that all are born in sin, not innocent. That’s what the Christ sacrifice was all about. Believe or not,as you wish, but that’s the Christian faith.

          • Ryan Schneider.

Defining Original Sin is one of older arguments dividing the Protestant Reformers from older orthodox Christianity, as well as one another. We all agree that we are born with the stain of Adam, but what is that stain, and what is the responsibility of a newborn infant, if any, regarding it? To the orthodox, putting any responsibility on a baby is patently absurd, as innocence is self evident. It was only with the rise of so called Puritanism, that absurd notions to the contrary arose. The stain represents the inevitability of sin for all children who reach the age of reason. Christ’s sacrifice washes away that stain, making it possible for us to become saints, if we choose to acknowledge him.

  • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

OOOOH, whoopee– now, because Congress should raise the Federal minimum wage, so 30 hours @ $10.10/hr = $303.00, versus 40 hours @ $7.25 = $290.00, not only do I get more free time, I get a $13.00 raise, AND Obamacare?

You so good to us, Massa Barry. All smoke and mirrors, but, there you are…

    • Donald Shaffer

At 30 hours he gets health benefits from the company. He’s only going to get 29 at 10.10. Still a 2.90 raise

      • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Twenty-nine hours and thirty-five minutes, (5h55min/day), I’d have thought. Rounded up, still $299.00, after I worked it out. Still a nine-buck raise, almost.

        • Donald Shaffer

The scheduling manager doesn’t get paid enough to do that much. They probably cut it off at an even 5 hour day and call it that. Now the poor fry cook only gets 25 hours.

          • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Probably hadda cut the scheduling mgr’s hours too, and so (s)he hasn’t got the time to work it all out.

And if they take the fine of 2% of 15230.8/yr (304.61) or $95.00 which ever is greater they’re back to net $7.25/hr

This seminar on the “Minimum Wage and Obamacare” has been sponsored by the Bud Abbott School of Economics, where thirteen times seven is 28, two tens for a five, and that’s the ten you owed me. And Who’s still on first.

      • monamurray

Who will cover the other 11 hours? The company will hire two people at 20 hours each and not pay for insurance at all.

      • Clete Torres

And he gets to pay hundreds/mo for a crappy healthcare scheme that makes the UK’s NHS look competent by comparison.

    • Howard Roark

Do we know the questioner was only getting $7.25/hr? If he made a little bit more, say $8/hr and got cut back to 29 hours that would be a cut in weekly pay of $27.10 even with the $10.10 new minimum wage.

      40 * $8.00 = 320.00
      29 * $10.10 = 292.90

Even if the employee’s subsidized insurance premium on the federal exchange is $0 his deductible will be about $2k. In other words the worker will be self-insured unless he has a moderate to large medical need on a smaller paycheck than now.

Stop it Massa Barry, I can’t afford any more of your concern for me.

Obamadontcare. If the employer goes out of business because they can’t afford the higher minimum wage, the guy can collect unemployment for the next 8 years and get an even larger subsidy to buy health insurance that provides coverages that he doesn’t need. After all, the payment of unemployment benefits is an economic stimulus. And the government can always print more money and incur more debt to pay for everything.

    • Ryan Schneider.

It’s turtles all the way down…is’nt it?

  • rainman

Did I miss something? Was the guy making minimum wage? Or does O think raising the minimum wage will increase EVERYONE’S wage? It won’t. It will mean those who worked their way up to $10, will now be making the same as the new hires.

So if this guy was making $15 an hour, got his hours cut and lost benefits, O’s answer is to pay somebody else $10 an hour. What a maroon.

  • SpaceRacer423

what people like Obama and OReilly fail to realize is that it doesn’t matter what the employee is worth, it matters what the JOB is worth.
Obama, Bill, and fast food workers cry and complain that every worker is worth $10-$15/hour.
Even if that were true, it isn’t, but if it were, it would NOT matter.
In order to a company to exist it must make a PROFIT.
So in order to pay an employee $10/hr, that JOB must benefit the company at least $15/hr or the company cant afford the JOB.
Obamacare makes matters WORSE because it increases the expense of the employee. If keeping that employee now costs the employer $20/hr, then the job must then benefit the company $30/hr in order for the company to clear overhead.
If the company is loosing money its only choice is to either raise prices or cut costs(ie fire people.)

Oh, for the record, if you are already making more than what the proposed new minimum would be, his “plan” wouldn’t help you.

Also, let’s do some math, non common core style.

8 dollars per hour at 40 hours is 320
at 30 hours it is 240.

10 dollars per hours for 30 hours is 300

that is still twenty dollars less that what they were making before O Care.

    • Calcat36

DAMN YOU! You are a human calculator! Math makes my head hurt, but the way you presented it… makes someone look pretty durn stoopit.

    • Onyx

Don’t feel bad — math is hard. The current minimum wage is $7.25/hr. The proposed raise is to $10.10/hr. Which is greater, 40 x $7.25 or 30 x $10.10?

      • H50 ✓RAT

Which is greater a 3.00 raise or a 300.00 increase in health insurance premiums?

      • hybrid

The 30 hours is greater cost to the employee, you forget overhead and all administration/misc expenses that go into supporting a nominal FTE head count. An employer wont give that theoretical worker 30 hour’s instead if they are already paying minimum wage they’ll reduce that person’s hours to 20 and hire two people to keep up productivity. There is literally no incentive for an employer to max out those hours especially at a higher wage and additional benefits cost.

    • keyboard jockey

That assumes that after the wage increase they will be getting at least 30 hours per week. 30 hours is an arbitrary number it depends on the hours the employer offers the employee.

  • deimos19

    uhhhh….. maths is hard.

  • Terry

Gotta admit I didn’t think of that angle. Was wondering where the hell Obama came up with $10.10 as minimum wage. 29 hrs x $10.10 = $292.80 vs 40 hrs x $7.25= $290. So I see he thinks he’s giving the “poor families of 4” a $2.80 per week raise. I know he’s too stupid to realize that if this were to go thru, $10.10/hr x 0 hrs = 0. And it would righteously screw the kid who worked his way up to $10.10 before the change, with the cost of a Big Mac rising to $10 to cover their increased costs.
Maybe Obama is so dumb that he thinks all employers will automatically give every employee a $3/r increase in wages because the minimum goes up. Or, he’s been listening to his dumbass union buddies again, the ones that drove Chrysler out of the US, screwed Delphi pensioners, wrecked GM and drove countless cities into bankruptcy.

    • stellatruman

Bingo ! We have a 16 year old boy who works for us. The kid is such a hard worker, never complains, will do any job. Why ? Because he partially supports his family. We pay him in the neighborhood of $10 an hour.
He is a rare young man in his work ethic , for his age. Now if we are forced into a wage hike, he will be reduced to the same pay as a kid who can’t get out of his own way

  • TVree

The POTUS/TOTUS fails to grasp that the focus should be on JOBS not WAGES. What good does an extra $2.15 an hour do for 90 million without jobs? They are still earning $0.

The Fed pumps in $85 billion, and nothing happened… why? Because companies are strangled by regulation and saddled with astronomical costs associated with unACA.

End result? No recovery… the Fed and namely failed WH policies have extended the recession for the entire BHO presidency. Raising of min wage has no effect on the middle class… min wage is for entry level. Which in turn means fewer employments, more layoffs, and an worsening economy. The ones that are most effected by the min wage: high-school educated workers, and high-school educated workers under the age of 25 in college.

No wonder they wanted unACA coverage until age 26. They knew that this law was going to force <26ers into their parents basements.

Move over Carter and Buchanan, Barry wants his crown back.

    • hybrid

“The Fed pumps in $85 billion, and nothing happened… why? Because companies are strangled by regulation and saddled with astronomical costs associated with unACA.”

Actually its worse than that, that $85 billion never got pumped into the overall economy since it was essentially given to the banks like JPM, BofA, & GS who in turn rather than use it to offer loans to the general public turned around and used the money to play the stock markets or offer loans back to the government at 2% interest. When a bank gets money for free why take a risky loan with the public when you can get an automatic 2% interest by offering it right back to the government?

  • CLEmom

    Ummmm. No.
We don’t need $10/hr jobs, we need strong middle-class jobs that are full-time, with benefits (oh, wait.), that pay a minimum of $40K a year.

Raising minimum wage when the economy is in the toilet is going to kill more jobs. Good thinking Obama. No way this can blow up in your face.
